  • In this video, we examine the voice of one of the greatest tenors of recent times, none other than Luciano Pavarotti! We see how his voice fared from the early days until later in his career. Come with me and let's take a closer look!
Luciano Pavarotti - Singers Then And Now
The goal of this series is not to make fun of people, to show a picture of them in their youth and then mock them in their older age.
The goal is to showcase how voices have sustained over time. And who has taken care of their voices and who hasn't, and what was the result. And what could've been done differently for those that did not take care of the voices.
Could they have sustained their voices? And can they be rehabilitated now? Some singers (few) are just gifted with great genes and have been able to sustain their voices on their own. This is a rare exception. The rest of us mere mortals have to work at it, just like we have to work at our voices to get range, pitch, power, control, longevity, stamina, and so forth.
In addition, it's just really cool to check out the incredible careers of these artists and marvel at their singing.
So today, we are looking at none other than Mr. Luciano Parvarotti!

Thank you! (Remember Dimash's interview where he said that Pavarotti was one of his idols, that Pavarotti had vocal teachers even when he was already a star. And added, that you can't rely on you knowing you are good at singing, because teachers notice things you don't notice yourself.)

His performances in 93-96 were truly magical, probably the peak of his voice, which was in my opinion one of the greatest of all time

Getting older, Luciano Pavarotti added more pathos and experience to the singing. During his performance in Torino he was sick and he did his best "canto del cigno", his last swansong. It makes me shiver. When a voice gives you emotions, it crosses the boundaries of time. I also love "Ridi, pagliaccio".

I knew he was an amazing tenor, but I knew precious little about his music or career, so it was really fasting especially to see the old clips and then to hear how strong his voice was decades later! Amazing.

Pavarotti also sang live with no mic or PA system that I am aware of. That is just how incredibly powerful his voice was, and simply cannot be compared with singers who produce higher notes with a fraction of the power this guy was producing. Marc Martel did a vphenomenal video called "Mercurotti" where he sings both parts of Nessun Dorma. Worth a listen 👍.

If I recall it correctly Pavarotti actually took a lot of inspiration from Jussi Björling.
I always play Jussi's version of O Holy Night (in Swedish) around Christmas time. He is very effortless, moving up to the B4 with excellent resonance. An anecdote from somebody close to him said that he had a strong drink before he went in to record that one, haha.

My mother took me to see Pavarotti. in1979 in Pasadena California. I was 15 yrs. I had heard classical tenors the ( 3 ) all my life,. however, seeing Pavarotti on stage was magical... I too passed the love of classical music on to my children...Classical music was the normal in my house. My oldest is a veterinarian, middle is a nurse, and youngest is a Bio Engineer... But, I've been a hard core rocker as well..... and, my kids, to this day also have their choices of music...

Because of watching Dimash analysis videos over the past few months from so many different vocal coaches (not the just 'OMG reaction crowd) I've learned so much about singing skills. And your channel has been one of the most interesting. I never knew about the difference between mic'd singers and those Opera singers who don't need mics. I now understand that basically if the sound is coming from a mic, we can't truly trust what we're hearing. Even Pavarotti's appearance of powerful singing in those later videos he is mic'd.

Great video as always. Interesting story...my grandmother was a big fan & I remember her going to see him at the St. Louis Arena in the early '80s. Big dairy barn that became home of the St. Louis Blues for decades. Tickets were $50 each no matter where you sat. Big ticket price then. Around the same time I saw The Rolling Stones on the Tattoo You told for about $15. Rush A Farewell To Kings tour was about $8 a couple years earlier at the same venue.. Grandma's review was "magnificent show". It's nice to remember that 40 years later. Thanks for triggering the memory, Ken.

" Bravo" , Thank you for all you do for everyone Ken. This made me so happy . Music has so many greats gone as well as here now . I been getting into some tribal singers and hymns by monks . Of course the culture , history as well . My entire life I never took the time to busy making money with music and I just wanted to know more about what has kept a roof over my head . Thank you 💜🤘✌

Great Ken! Also listen to AL Bano's version of "Nessun dorma".
