I bought a new 2023 3 sedan, paid cash with retirement funds, I can't begin to say how much t love and enjoy this car. The feeling of quality and style is elating. Nothing else comes close for the money, infact , I am so glad I looked into this car, and passed on the far more expensive options. Thanks guys for giving me good reason to take a serious look at this awesome car
I wouldn't call the mazda 3 a great value, especially in the higher trims. They ask more coin than they should because their resale isnt as great as toyota and honda. Sales order is 1) Civic 2) Corolla 3) Mazda 3. Driving dynamics arent most important in this category, although i have to say the looks inside and out are best in class!
@@philipf2705 well, considering I paid $44K for a fully loaded Durango R/T in 2016 and they are now pushing $70K (all prices are nuts today)and I loved my 2001 Mazda RX8, I think the style (especially the interiors) build quality, driving fun, elevates the Mazda 3 over the Civic and Corolla, but I take your point, about the exact price......if that is the sole criteria, I agree with ya! Such a solid review. Lots of info in such terrific format. I'm truly enjoying this economy car series. This is some of the best Automotive content out there..
Mazda3 has always been of my all time favourite compact car. When my 2018 Civic got totalled by a red light runner nearly a month ago, if I was willing to choose sedan over hatchback, which is available. I already taken it. However, I decided to take a "honourable mentioned" compact which is an Impreza Sport Tech. Both Civic, Mazda3 and Corolla hatchback don't have stocks available, Impreza has the last one from the dealer in Vancouver. Anyway, thanks for the great reviews on all those class leading compacts.
Great review. I love it! But you're preaching to the choir about the Mazda 3. We have a US trim "Premium" trim (I think that's what's called 'Carbon' now), normally aspirated, 2021 Mazda 3 AWD sedan. We bought the car in June of '21 before the supply chain seemed to hit the car biz fully, in fact we got a few hundred dollars discount on the sticker price from our local, northern Virginia dealer, enough to offset the rimless mirror dealer option we added. It's in the Crystal Red Soul, white leather interior. The dealer had ordered some nice options on this car. Wireless charger, body color trunk lip spoiler, the bright applique on top surface of the rear bumper cover (not a 'must have' but it does add a bit of dress up to the appearance of the car, ditto the matching color lip spoiler), mud mats and locking lug nuts. We added the rimless homelink/dimming mirror as a dealer installed item. I love driving the car. It just makes me smile; it makes me happy. It's just fun. I agree totally on the torsion beam rear end; it's a complete non-issue as far as handling and ride are concerned. Our other car is a 2020 Acura RDX 'Advance' trim level. I think the Acura is a great car, and it's fun and nice to drive, and not overly huge. But ... the Mazda is really, really fun to drive, and to look at and soak up the styling. While the Mazda is not a 'simple' or plain car, it transports me back to when I was young in the 60s and 70s, to a time of simpler cars that were just a hoot to drive without a lot of complication. I've often thought that if I got another Mazda 3, I'd ask my dealer if I could order the US trim Turbo Premium Plus without the turbo! But guess what, that car exists, it's your Canadian GT trim!! You do have the best of both Mazda 3 worlds with that trim level. Safe to say, I've become a Mazda believer. Maybe I can sneak one of your GT trim models across the border!! 🙂
Test drove a Mazda3 four years ago when I was car shopping. Beautiful car but both my wife and I found the seats terribly uncomfortable. Still admire them every time I see one drive by.
Zach... I totally agree with you...the 6 speed automatic transmission is good.. for me.. I had 2023 KIA SX PRESTIGE 8 speed auto...it seemed to search for the right gear...and I find the acceleration of the 6 speed vs the 8 speed was smoother...again.. my personal point of view.
The Mazda 6 speed is a conventional auto. The KIA 8 speed you had was a dual clutch design which is notorious for hesitation issues (not specific to KIA but dual clutches in general).
Mazda does have quality yes and my father is loyal to Mazda, however they are expensive to maintain compared to a Corolla. Perfect example is the brakes and rotors for Mazda they cost double to what Corolla cost. Sure Mazda are fun to drive but don’t rule out the cost of Maintaining it.
Another entertaining, informative review, thanks A&Z. I have wonderful memories of a 1988 626 hatchback that went 165,000 miles (only had five speeds, three pedals :^).
I live in Michigan and have a Mazda3 HB in AWD in a lower trim level. It’s a 2021 and I believe the MSRP was around $26k. I think it was a bargain. Funny enough, it seems most people don’t even know they are available with AWD. I live in an area where Subarus and Jeeps seem to be everywhere, one would think Mazda is missing an important market. I like the automatic but do wish I had a manual. When I got mine (during Covid shortages) manuals were just not available anywhere.
Hello, I really enjoy your honest car reviews. I recently bought the preferred model in Snowflake White Pearl to reflect the brutal summer sun down here in Florida. Of course my local Mazda dealership (east Pasco County, north of Tampa) charged me about $3800 usd over invoice LoL. I was just wondering if the dealerships up in Canada had more ethics than the one's down here in the states? Love the Channel!!
And the big bonus for loyal Canadian buyers, all 2024 3s are shipped directly from Japan! I hope they stay the same until I buy one. Thanks for the show.
With the price of everything going out of control and consumers having less buying power, makes you wonder if the compact cars are going to have a huge resurgence.

Yes. Just bought a battery for my Honda CR-V. The Canadian cars have a bigger battery tray.! Winters in Syracuse, NY are just as bad as those in Toronto. No option for the better battery. Regarding the Mazda 3, I would have liked the larger screen, but didn't see where the Carbon was worth it to me. I completely agree with your comment that the Mazda3 Sport is an excellent choice for a person or couple who will not use the rear seats often and do not need maximum cargo space. Personally, the Mazda3 Sport GT 2.5L, the only one available with a manual gearbox, catches my eye. 👍
Love to see the smile when Andrea drives a Mazda! Personally, i think Mazda makes best looking Japanese cars on the market and dare I say better than the Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura. Mazda 3 nails the luxury-lite with above class amenities, fun to drive and most importantly, it is reasonably priced. Another icing on the cake is its insurance premium…😉
Test drove the 30. Felt like a rolling coffin! You do not sit up high in it. You sit low and the high door line does not help matters. Very claustrophobic feeling. I felt the engine was buzzy of the line too. It felt better cruising on the highway. The dealbreaker for the 30 and the 3 for me was the very cramped backseats. Fit and finish of the car cannot be beat. The CX-5, however was a dream to test drive. Less HP than the 30, but tuned much better!
@@ms.b9093 I'm only 5'5 so I don't need that much room. My husband already had a CX-5 so I didn't need a bigger vehicule. I sat in a Mazda 3 and I felt claustrophobic in that!
The low seating position of the 30 is a plus if you ask me, but to each their own. Much prefer sitting "in" a car vs on it as you do in the CX-5. The 30 drives 95% the same as the 3 as they share a platform.
I still love this car- I have a 2015….. still drives great after over 100K miles. I’m very confident that the ‘25 3 is terrific, just wish ventilated seats were an option.
Great review. Great LITTLE car. Personally I prefer the drive of the previous generation which I think is busier and buzzy, but more engaging. This one drives in a more settled/refined way, but slightly less lively. My guess is most people would prefer this new gen, especially with the good looks.
Zack and Andrea, i think most people would consider the elantra over the jetta as a 4th best choice option. But thats my opinion and i bet the sales of elantra far exceed the jetta overall and prove my point. Love the channel, keep rolling along doing what you 2 do best
At around (or we’ll under) $30,000, I absolutely love it. Though I wish a manual was offered. At around $40,000 (in full kit/loaded) or above… I think that there are many other cars I ‘might’ consider. At $40,000 (or above), I think it would be my penultimate choice… only because Volkswagen has some serious options … for people like me (especially if you are a fan of German engineered motorcars with their uniquely stoic styling cues). Thanks for the video.
Its so funny that you both mention the points I also agree with. I’ve been looking at Audi’s Lexus and … MAZDA! Soccer Moms might not agree haha but I honestly think they’re a steal. I’d go natural 2.5. It moves fine and theres no reason to go with a Turbo.
I still want to request a closet tour for Andrea. I swear you are the most stylish lady out there and you never seem to run out of outfits to coordinate with the cars. I'm sure that you repeat things, but to me each outfit looks new and I don't recognize that you're repeating pieces. I know it's about the cars but I love your style too. (And would love a watch tour with Zach but I know he might be reluctant to show so many watches, but still, these are interesting aspects of you guys that I think lots of viewers would want a more in-depth peek at. :)
How are the air conditioning vents? It’s my gripe that it is behind steering wheel in Cx50 also and is only reason I am not confident. The rest is amazing.
I was really falling in love with this car, but the rear space is really disappointing. My work commute involves car pooling, so I have a full car once a weak for about 1.5 hours to and then from work. So the minimal leg room in the back is really a shame, I don't want the other car poolers to be uncomfortable.
I’ve had 3 brand new Mazdas. Mx-3, 3 and cx-5 all been so good and reliable. Just similar issues with all. Was thinking of going to a Trax but something just pulls me back to Mazdas.. thinking maybe another 3 but I do like more ground clearance with my cx5 but don’t want to spend that much since prices have gone up so much

Less gear ⚙️ hunting with a six speed over eight. Nice unit!! However it's worth noting Mazda applies the thinnest amount of paint possible to a vehicle, especially the red Mazdas.
I love your show. Unfortunately there is no Mazda dealer around my rural area. I’ve driven a manual transmission since 1984. This year I broke down and purchased the Honda CRV hybrid touring and it’s a great car for getting from point A to point B. It’s just not that engaging. I’m trying to get my wife talked into a used eco boost Mustang with a manual as a second car as that model has also dropped the manual in 2024.😢
I own a 1.4 T 2019 Jetta, 8 speed auto and 45 mpg highway and great handling. Mazda "tarts" up the interior which doesn't improve the driving experience and I hate that the bottom left of the touchscreen is hidden by the swoopy (sculptured) "stitched" dash. My Jetta, like all German cars, gets to 100 mph without a whimper. I often row it through the gears with the select handle to the right. I paid $16500.00 for my car, new, and it came with a 6 year warranty, a result of dieselgate, I think. I am glad you at least mentioned the Jetta and I really like your show, thanks.
Really hope mazda keeps this around and a mid-gen refresh would bring grille, head, and taillight styling in line with the CX-50/70/90 and brings over the latest tech like the full digital gauge cluster and enhanced driver assist
While I never owned one, I drove the Mazda 6 several times and enjoyed it. Too bad they discontinued it but I think the competition at that point was too much.
I would like to get the non-turbo hatchback with a manual transmission, but, at least in the USA, the hatch is a good bit more expensive than the sedan. Also, Mazda has a zircon sand metallic color that I just love, paired with a gorgeous terracotta-colored interior, but it is only available with 2.5 Carbo Turbo trim, which includes mandatory AWD and a turbo. Also, no manual. Sigh. When I use the build and price feature on the website, I can get the 2.5 Carbon turbo sedan for only $800 more than a non-turbo, non-AWD hatchback. Choices. Choices.
Since 2010, Mazda has been the most coveted vehicle brand for my partner and I (CX-7 GS FWD, CX-5 FWD, CX-3 GS + AWD, Mazda6 GS/GT/GS-L, Mazda3 GS, MX-30 GS etc...) without forgetting older models like B2000/2200 & RX7 GS/GSL SE from the 80's.😁
My Mazda had a birthday she's 16 2007. Love her she's manual trans 2.5 GT. By myself and a few friends I had enough space. Now I need to transport my elderly parents around a few times a month. Any suggestions out there. I don't want to add to my costs when I'm only taking them a few times a month to appointments via doctor or the bank. I look at the Mazda cx-30, cx-5 or the mazda 3 which I love so much. Can you help. I love my manual trans so I'm dragging my feet to go looking as of yet. But I know she's up there in age. Please help me decide.
The Mazda 3 is a beautiful car. For some reason stateside, the sales had slowed considerably. The new 2025 models I’ve seen are much more sportier looking. The reason so many are dropping the stick is no one is buying them. They’ve improved the auto so much they are getting better mileage from them. Also, CVT’s everyone has been having issues those transmissions. The big push is to move away from those too. The big push for EV’s is not going to happen as planned. People aren’t buying them. In NYC alone no one bought one. The reliability issues & the cost of ownership isn’t worth it. Manufacturers are going back to cars & gas engines. The SUV’s & Pickups are so expensive they aren’t selling either. Pickup’s that are $100K that’s insane. I wouldn’t move on to the whole scam of SUV’s & Pickups. They’re like 10 times more expensive to buy & maintain. Tires alone are outrageous. When the Big 3 decided to get rid of cars I knew they were making a huge mistake. I said it too. Now they are back making cars. The Imports are way ahead of them. I’m looking forward to the new 2025 Mazda 6. That is supposed to be the best looking car of them all. I can’t wait. Excellent review of the Mazda 3.
Do you live in a snowy environment? Get AWD if so. If not, you have no benefit in getting the AWD. The FWD is cheaper, lighter, less maintenance and more efficient.
It's by far the most beautiful car in its segment with the most available standard power and probably the most engaging driving experience. However, it lacks severely in every other conceivable way, such as spaciousness, cargo room, efficiency, price, and choice of interior and exterior colors in base trim. I need my primary transportation to be more than just good-looking and fun to drive. Those are second-tier priorities for me.
Plenty of practical point a to b appliances out there to choose from if that's your biggest priority. This aspires to be more than just a soulless conveyance.
I agree on par with Toyota on reliability but it’s a step up than Toyota in terms of ride, handling and build-quality (feels more solid) than the ratchet-tinny feeling Corolla!

I completely agree with your comment that the Mazda3 Sport is an excellent choice for a person or couple who will not use the rear seats often and do not need maximum cargo space. Personally, the Mazda3 Sport GT 2.5L, the only one available with a manual gearbox, catches my eye. 👍
A very good car in its class. My brother has one of these and loves it.
It was great having it for a week, we really enjoyed it!
I always have such a good time when I drive a Mazda!
@@andreaspencer9813yea, I saw you leaning into the turns.
The same 6 speed transmission is even better in the turbo - all that torque never makes you feel you a missing a gear!
Please review the CX-30 2024! I received mine a few weeks ago and I love it!!
I have a 2liter Mazda gs 2014 bought used june 2017 at. 39,000km today at 108,000 km. Not a single probleme still run great and loving it.
Great review. Great LITTLE car. Personally I prefer the drive of the previous generation which I think is busier and buzzy, but more engaging. This one drives in a more settled/refined way, but slightly less lively. My guess is most people would prefer this new gen, especially with the good looks.
Love your reviews!
I have a premium 21 hatch. Love it and its the sweet spot. non turbo but no start stop or cylinder deactivation.
My current ride is a 15 Chev Malibu, none turbo. This Mazda sounds like your exactly describing my Malibu. I'll have to go check it out for a ride.
I loved this design when it came out, but while I think it aged well, I'm kind of just wondering what's "next" for the Mazda 3 at this point, ya know?
Great review. As always!!!😎
Thank you!
It's idiocy that's not available with AWD and other top trim items in the US.
Really as a Canadian “needing” AWD… I wish you would compare with the Subaru Impreza… top trim to top trim and non-turbo.
How are the air conditioning vents? It’s my gripe that it is behind steering wheel in Cx50 also and is only reason I am not confident. The rest is amazing.
Mazda really needs to give trims in us like they do in Canada. Especially the cx50
Was thinking of going to a Trax but something just pulls me back to Mazdas.. thinking maybe another 3 but I do like more ground clearance with my cx5 but don’t want to spend that much since prices have gone up so much
Owns 5 cars in Canada so far, this gen of Mazda 3 is the cheapest one but is the most satisfied one as well. Still love drive it like own it as new
Andrea & Zack, Off Topic, Michael Loves the CX-50 Hybrid Premium Trim 🎉Getting 47mpg City, NO hwy. Loves the Heated seats & Remote Start & Comfortable seats ❤. Boston MA 🇺🇸
That's awesome!
Nice, but when is the Mazda 6 coming to N America? I've been waiting and waiting and waiting, the 3 is just a bit small and I don't want to buy a CX5.
The 6 was discontinued in North America in 2021.
Are you certain, I think they are still in Japan and Europe.@@mrslcom
Great to know your opinion of the torsion beam rear suspension!
I’m trying to get my wife talked into a used eco boost Mustang with a manual as a second car as that model has also dropped the manual in 2024.😢
I know it's too bad about the manual in the Ecoboost!!
i sold my scion tc hb with 6 speed loved the car much underrated
Choices. Choices.
That’s funny he mentioned about Mazda in Quebec. Some people drove to BC from Quebec-all Mazdas.
Great stuffs, winning!!!
Well there's also Volkswagen Jetta with 8 speed automatic transmission too - another compact car to consider.
The Jetta gets great fuel economy too and it's a spacious sedan.
Have you received your GTI yet?
@@dgre334 No not yet, the GTI has left Halifax though and on its way here.
I wish the backseat and cargo area in mazda's were just a little bit roomy. While i love Mazda's, i need just a little more room.
Great review! What's the likelihood of a model redesign in 2025? Isn't it about due for one?
What about the droning noise that people complain about going 65-70 mph. Is that common?
Better than an iCE Corolla/Civic, & best-in-class still IMO, but I preferred the look of the Mazda3 sedan from last-gen more than the current one.

Can you advise if the AWD or FWD which is better. Thanks
Do you live in a snowy environment? Get AWD if so. If not, you have no benefit in getting the AWD. The FWD is cheaper, lighter, less maintenance and more efficient.
@@larryhouse3776 Thank you Larry, greatly appreciate you advise.
Do you think the Lexus is is way better than the Mazda 3? I wonder if the price difference is worth it!
Thanks
I love my Mazda 3 2017 runs like a bullet and haven’t had any major issues with that car so far.
With an engine that has low torque how many more gears would you need? Top gears are overdrive and no searching in midrange.
@@jamesrather1510 fun cars don't have to be cramped or impractical though.
Sorry Zack, I strongly prefer the way Mrs. Motormouth says Mazda! However, love the channel. Yes, I'm south of the border, but barely!
You gotta drive one with a rear sway bar installed for the nice handling improvement
This is a pretty dumb comment. The Mazda 3 handles just fine in stock form.
Mazda is on par with Toyota reliability wise but actually nice to sit in
I agree on par with Toyota on reliability but it’s a step up than Toyota in terms of ride, handling and build-quality (feels more solid) than the ratchet-tinny feeling Corolla!
@@ztekz Toyota really needs to improve their interiors. Hire some Euro designers like Hyundai and Kia did over a decade ago! The plastic molded everything just does not cut it today.
@@ztekz My 2011 Toyota Corolla has acres of cheap plastic in the interior. I have gotten used to it, but is really cheap and hollow.
I have a question when you quote the prices is freight included?? When I went to the dealer the price on the car is so much higher and I got told sorry no negotiation. What's up with that. I loved that part of buying a vehicle now they just through in the mats for the price on the wind shield??????? Like really???? I need some guidance and advise please I'm all ears here for some direction. Please to do not refer me to Telegram app sorry but I can't figure that out. Not all that techie here. I bet a lot of your viewer would love the knowledge and advice you have to offer. Thanks in advance, greatly appreciate what you have to offer. Best regards. Dana.
