@@highfiberknits I just swatched with Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in Winter White! So not as fun of a color as yours lol but I love the stitch motifs in this pattern.
The color of your Storm is incredible!!! I also have a ball and a half of the KFO pure silk and haven’t the slightest idea what to do with it… might steal whatever idea you have 😅
Your storm sweater is looking sooo good in that color! Can't wait to see it finished! And you are right about the Peer Gynt vs double sunday. Peer Gynt is 100% norwegian sheeps wool, whereas Double Sunday is "untreated" merino wool. Personally I'm a sucker for pure Norwegian wool, but I'm also Norwegian myself and have grown up with it😅
Agree with you on the Peer Gynt. That is also my favourite sandnes garn so far. My Louvre sweater is made in it and is one of my most worn winter knits and it has held up really well. Little bit of piling but nothing crazy. That yarn is working so well for your storm sweater.
Hi, all your makes are gorgeous. I see the 2 green skeins held together, i think that would make a beautiful fabric and for the mohair ones, maybe consider a Cloudbow top? Katt weaver has made a couple and a dress version.
I think you should wait until you have time to think about what you want to make. There are so many patterns coming out that you will be drooling over.
About the lovely green yarns at the end - either, as someone suggested, a low contrast striped sweater, or maybe if you hold the lace yarn of the one green with the mohair of the other, and vice versa, and then do a sort of alternating skeins helical knit sweater, you could make one big slightly variegated garment.
Hello my Dear , I am a ranunculus and love note lover. The greens are very nice. I would mix the dark with the light and the other way around. I can think about squeezing out two sweaters for winter as a layering peace out of the four skeins. Of cause as a light fabric with a larger needle depending on your gauge. Love your podcasts, thanks a lot! I am going to knit the storm sweater after your inspiration. It is the first pattern I bought from the designer because of your podcast.
The green mohair yarns could possibly each be doubled (so you’re holding yarn quadrupled) to make a hat, assuming you have enough yardage! If not, I’ve seen some really pretty mohair scarves for the neck or hair ties that hold multiple mohair strands together. I can’t wait to see the yarns you’ll use in your ADVENTurous wrap! Green, brown, and blue make a lovely color story ❤
Do not worry about caring for your Blouse No.1, I knitted already 2 of those in KfO Pure silk and just threw them in my washing machine for the second time. - Absolutely no problem! I use my wool/silk program and a wool detergent, set it on cold and spin it on 400 (lowest setting), then I let it air-dry flat. - Maybe that is worth a try 😉
So many amazing things! I love the color way of the hat you’re making for your sister. When you described the orange specks as toffee, I was like “YES!that’s exactly what that is!”
The last time you spoke about making the Alpine Bloom Hat, I decided to make it. I made 2 in a week, also using DK yarn. The first I used magic loop for the crown. The 2nd I used dpn's. I like the dpn's much better.
Been knitting thru Storm sweater junior versions two times already. The orange adult version looks great. I think I notice that the dimond block does not have enough repeats on your version. I could be wrong. Really enjoying your clips. Happy knitting! Manu
Your makes are always so well thought out and executed. I especially love the simplicity and elegance of your Blouse no 1. And your hat turned out great!
*whispers* you should try combination knitting. I find it so much faster and more stimulating for my adhd brain lol. might help with loose knitting too, if that’s something you want to change of course.
I would definetelly use these green yarns for something stripey - I think they look fantastic together, and both colours suits you well :) Maybe striped tolsta tee?
So much gorgeousness! I’m doing a September finishathon. I have many languishing WIPs, so no new cast ons for me until October. I’ve already made really good progress, finishing a sweater and three socks, so far! I will be swatching for fall makes, though. That’s for sure!
That sounds like such a great idea! I find a lot of my knitting happens in batches so things are slow until one week or weekend where I wrap up several things. Swatching in the meantime sounds like a lovely way to anticipate new cast ons!
@@highfiberknits exactly! It’s still so hot in Spain, there’s no point making something wooly and wonderful now. I just got the two newest Sandnes Garn pattern booklets, so I have lots to look forward to.
Check out katweavers mohair runuculus tops. I think either of the mohairs could be soooo pretty as a going out type top. i could see it layered over your new brown dress too.
It’s best to do what feels most comfortable and natural to you! As you get more knitting time in, it’s likely your gauge will loosen and it can be affected by things like stress and knitting positions too!
@@highfiberknits Thanks Emily!!! Very good points! Knitting has done wonders for my stress levels. There’s so many things I want to knit…I’m just soooo slow!! 😩
I made camisole no 4 and I used less than 2 balls of pure silk for size S or M (I can't remember). I made it much longer than in the pattern and still left 15g. So I think for you 2 balls will be enough :)
The construction of the blousecis called a contigous construction On the crown of Harstad i prefer dpns, especially with colourwork. you could use 4 instead of 5 needles for the 6 pointed decrease 😊
Love that you talked about the Peer Gynt. I never worked with it before but recently got 7 at $5 a ball, just could not pass up on the price. But it’s two now discontinued colors, and I’ve been having a hard time deciding what to make with it. I will knit a gauge swatch tonight. I’m thinking the Sille slipover by Petit Knit but I’d have to color block or do stripes and I’m just not sure how that would look. Guess the swatch will tell me! In love with your Storm sweater!
I haven't checked yardage info but I think Elton Tee by Joji Locatelli or Rock It Tee by Tanis Lavallee could inspire you for those gorgeous green yarns and mohairs. 😊
Hi Emily (correct spelling?), love your channel and your knitting. What a nice gift to receive those yarns. I especially liked the green ones. Do you know the Kolding by ChrisBerlin? It is a very nice shawl and can be worn in a lot of different ways. The knitting is very interesting and the yarn seems to me quite right - held double (Mohair and lace). I am curious if you will consider it. I think it would be a great piece for those cold and sometimes windy winters in Toronto . Let's see how you will decide, Heike
I was instantly thinking about the promenade blouse for the green mohair and the lace weight held double. Maybe that could work in some kind of way? It's a lovely pattern !
If yardage allows, you could do either cardigan no 6 from MFTKW (6mm needles), the Waffle Sweater or the Waffle Cardigan from KFO (5.5mm needles both), the Cumulus Blouse from Petiteknit (4mm needles). If you're inclined to purchase a pattern book from Sandnes Garn, their 2202 Soft Knit for women has the Jules Sweater which is a beautiful lace round yoke knit with a single strand of mohair (3mm needles). If you would like to avoid all the above lacework and hold multiple yarns together, you could knit the Cara Hat from Paula Strickt aka Susanne Müller (DK), or the 2x2 ribbed cowl from Purl Soho (worsted). If you would like a mindless transit knit, you could do a stockinette scarf in the round - cast on using Judy's magic cast on, knit in the round until the yarn is almost finished, graft to bind off, gauge and width of scarf is up to your preference. Another option would be Petiteknit's Terrazzo Neck (4.5mm needles) - I love how it gives you a faux sweater look, and it looks more smart than a cowl would. I use mine all the time for commuting to and from work. The chartreuse colour is beautiful, whatever you end up choosing would look amazing!
I've actually machine washed my KFO silk in a garment bag multiple times with not much issue? But I think it's because it's a bourette silk so it's got a nubbly texture already that hides the 'piling'. It generally snaps the silk back into shape if you find it stretching out.
On the Blouse No. 1, it is called a contiguous set-in sleeve. I haven't seen details of that particular pattern, so it could be slightly modified. It looks lovely on you!
So happy to have found a channel by a Toronto knitter. What are some of your fave yarn shops? Do you buy most of your yarn locally or are you shipping from all over? Thanks
Welcome!! I love the knitting loft in north York, EweKnit downtown, and creative yarns in Scarborough! I prefer to go in person to a yarn store when I can, but I am also super fortunate to have yarns sent to me from lots of different places as a knitting influencer (lol it’s still weird to call myself that)
I’m thinking of knitting blouse no 1 as well! KFO pure silk looks really beautiful . Would you say it is a softer yarn? I’m a bit afraid that it will be uncomfortable next to skin.
I find it very neutral next to skin, especially compared to wool. I also think that it’s a lighter weight choice than a cotton or linen blend would be, but still adds the necessary drape! It’s also held up really well after several wears 😁
I have a bunch of KFO pure silk in cream that I've been trying to decide what to make with. I did not enjoy the process of knitting the cumulus tee and it stretched out horribly. This blouse also looks like a lot of knitting if it will also stretch out with a couple of wears. Maybe a lace pattern instead? Or would that not work with a drapey fabric?
It does in some areas like my forhead and neck. I think one option could be a layering piece like a shawl or scarf that goes over something else or knitting a hat with a mohair-less interior.
I actually think a low contrast striped sweater in the two greens held with their respective mohairs would look amaaazinggg!
The beginning of your Storm sweater is absolutly stunning! The colour is illuminating your face!
So excited for your Storm Sweater 😍 I have plans to make one too and seeing yours has made me feel inspired to swatch!
