Rod you and Linda have to make more videos. Theres a chemistry that's not common. You both have expertise and have that great conversation that makes the whole video a friendly experience. Thanks to you both for this one.
Thank you! Linda is pretty motivated and hard working so she's got the potential to become a strong content creator in this field. I'm just helping her to reach those goals hopefully sooner than expected, so you'll definitely see more of her in the future. 🙂
I've been following you a long time now and I must give you a well deserved compliment with this new video. I love the calm narration in the beginning. I noticed Linda does this in her content and it reminds me of Marty Stouffer. Absolutely love it. You both bring the fisheries biologist angle too...adipose! She has good on screen chemistry with you too. As you are dropping more censored f-bombs. Which is hilarious and shows you are both having good fun :). Keep up the great work Rod and Linda. You guys are great.
Thank you! That's such a nice comment! I really dig Linda's narration and I've been telling her to keep it up, that people will like it. I normally don't curse that much, not loudly anyway lol, but the microphone is picking up every little whispers. 😂
My GoPro microphone picks up bad language too when I miss a bite or lose a fish and I will be *&%$"£ if I can figure out where it's coming from!! @@FishingwithRod
Just like to give a big thank you for your excellent videos. I'm from the UK and have just returned from BC where I managed to get 4 days fishing on the Vedder. Your tips, rigs and general enthusiasm where a great help when fishing a new water. The conditions weren't great, but I did manage three Salmon on the fly. Not a fan of 'combat fishing' but followed your advice and walked away from the crowds...... Tight lines and all that..... Paul.
Hi Rod, that was a great video you & Linda put together there. I have very recently returned to Ireland from a fishing trip to the Chilliwack area where we spent quite a few days fishing the soft bead on the Vedder canal and further upstream in the area you were fishing. You gave me some great advice and help before we left which proved very helpful in the low water conditions we faced while there, so thanks for that!! Unfortunately we didn't have the good fortune to meet you on the river, but we are already planning a return visit, so perhaps we will bump into you someday. Until then, I wish you good fishing and stay safe. 👍
I love how I’ve been looking for the spot in this video all last season and a couple times this year and still haven’t found it but someone coming from Ireland stumbles upon it… maybe I’m just a terrible fisherman lol
Word from my fishing friend who works on the river is that the Vedder next year will have a dedicated section for Vloggers and Influencers only! should be awesome
Rod, could you clarify the name of the BNR 10 mm bead at 4:57? Are you saying Mozzle Red?? I don't see that color on the BNR website, is it Mottled Red? Thanks, Gary
I have a mystery for you to solve but first just wanted to say thank you for your channel. I haven’t fished for 15+ years and now have 2 little boys and am getting back into it, your channel has been a huge help! Here’s the mystery, I am fishing a river that is very milky/low visibility for the fish(coho). The fish are rolling everywhere, but can’t get them to hit spinners, spoons, flat fish or spin glows with sand shrimp. Do you have any tips or videos you could point me to? Thanks!
Quick question, in BC, you can only keep hatch Cohos, ie. w/ adipose fin clipped? Otherwise, all wild Cohos must be released. Also, this rule only applies to Cohos? Other salmons are ok? TIA. Love your videos, tips, tutorials Rod. Moving to Vancouver next year, so I'm "studying"....LoL.
It really depends on the region and river system where you plan to fish at. In the Lower Mainland, where coho salmon fishing is open, only hatchery marked fish can be kept. In other regions, like Vancouver Island, there are rivers where wild coho can actually be kept. At the moment the hatchery salmon retention mainly only applies to coho, but that will likely to change so it's always good to check the regs for any updates.
Linda's combo is a G.Loomis IMX-Pro 1264-2C STFR baitcasting rod and Shimano Curado 301HG baitcasting reel. Mine is a G.Loomis IMX 1262-2S STFR baitcasting rod and a Shimano Curado 201.
Yeah actually on that second day in the video, I had one occasion when the float just stopped going downstream. It was obviously a bite but my brain was somewhere else.
Have you fished a fly for them? I have always found coho a frustrating fish.I remember one time all the coho in the river were biting, the next day with two hundred coho lying close to the bank,I got one little dark jack and my friend got one on a spoon. He then tried the fresh roe from his coho and drifted it thru the huge pod,not one picked up his bait. It seems it's all or nothing.
Coho salmon can be so picky. Sometimes they prefer flies or lures over bait. This is why we love fishing for them so much, just too unpredictable. I have fly fished for them in the past, but not very often. I don't do it often because I mostly fish the Chilliwack/Vedder, where fly fishing spots are pretty limited. Do check out Linda's channel where she just posted a fly fishing video for coho though.
I don’t know when you plan to go, but it is peak right now in Chilliwack and will be good in the next three weeks. It will taper off starting around the second week of November.
I think we've been spoiled since 2019 when it comes to coho salmon this year. Most of my bites were really light, and it barely shakes my float. They don't even fully sink the floats. When you get aggressive float downs, it's more than likely a jack.
Vancouver island courtenay, puntledge river. also wanted to mention you have really inspired me to do more salmon fishing, and ive been getting a lot more salmon with those soft beads you showcased in another video, cheers 🙏 @@FishingwithRod
I really need to pick your brain when it comes to your spots you go to. Even for a day out for salmon / nature pictures ,I’d like to get some drone shots as well.

Excellent video Rod & Linda 🎣👍🎣😊
Thanks Andy!
Lindas fly skills can add a new dimension. We got one on the fly the other day after the crowds cleared there and my buddy was thrilled.
Yep sometimes flies can outfish anything else if the conditions are right!

@@michaelburger1591 I didn't stumble across anywhere, I do my homework before I go fishing anywhere. It sounds like you are just stupid..
Fisherman's corner tells you,,, the coho run!!! ITS STARTING!!
Rod is awesome to clear the wilds out so neighbor Bob can catch hatch!! 😂

Nice work. That was a lot of fun. Great production too 👊💥

Thanks for Sharing - Went fishing in the Green in Washington and full of Pink in the spawn Had fun catch release but looking for coho
Use eggs on the Green, either drifted or under a slip float. The setup that he is using in this video would probably also work on the Green

A dumb question - is red spring not stinky? Vedder white is the only spring species I’ve caught so far…
Both can smell quite a bit, but these white chinook salmon seem to be smellier.

Cheers for that Rod, just a nice peaceful vid.
What's the tipping point on timing for Coho that are keepers for eating?
Thanks! You can encounter bright silver coho salmon all the way until early December. Right now would be peak time for sure.

Definitely, a few weeks ago i was fishing in a couple feet of water and i would see then take my eggs/mouth them before the bobber would move.
Yeah actually on that second day in the video, I had one occasion when the float just stopped going downstream. It was obviously a bite but my brain was somewhere else.
