Quick question been trying to chose between Jon boat and Stryker inflatable but can't decide can you give me a few pros and cons for both worried inflatable isn't customisable or durable enough but like that it has paddles packs away and handles rougher water need for fishing .. mainly bass
Kale puts in lots of time on the river, getting up in the dark before school. Outfishes most adults too :) Great episode Rodney. I find the late season fishing a bit more hit and miss. Sometimes I catch more fish than an October day and sometimes I get no bites at all.
Yep, definitely shows everyone what difference it makes when you put in the time. I haven't fished much this year after Oct 15th, not by choice, so kind of disappointing. Still good out there.
Awww dam!! This is next level Rodney!!! I'm sitting in paradise in Cancun watching your video and it makes me miss home!!!! Those kid's were awesome!!!!!
it has indeed been an excellent year and it aint' over yet! Thanks for a great vid. Nothing more satisfying than watching a kid with a Coho on the line! They are always so keen and eager!
Those you guys know how to set the hook and hold them I gota say their excellent fishermen great release also beautiful rivers in Canada I love that country
Doing pretty well in St Joseph Michigan on the mouth of the St Joseph river into lake Michigan off the piers . Getting rainbow trout, lake trout, whitefish and soon into coho. Haven't seen or heard of any brown trout yet.
Great video Rod. Those kids are pros! Lol. I will be trying some late coho fishing as well on my local river for the same reason. The crowds have thinned in the lower area as most are fishing up higher since the fish have moved up. Hopefully we still have some late fish coming in.
Starting to think about ice fishing! But not super excited yet haha... The river fishing is still reasonably good so hard to stray away from that. Stay warm up there Ernie! :)
Just put up all my rods and reels yesterday as the season is over for me. Ticked a couple of items off from my salmon fishing wish list during the last two months although had some regrets like didn’t plan well enough for the drought season…Looking forward to the next year!
Hey Rod, great video. You didn't mention anything about videos for winter steelhead, is that not on the menu? I've seen your previous videos, am aiming to spend the winter chasing steelhead, and would and could definitely use any pointers you have for a first timer.
Great job Rodney getting those kids out. Warms my heart to see the next generation treating the resource with such respect. Which model e6x is Kale using in the video? Keep up the great work - love the videos!
Hi Rod, I love your videos and tutorials. Do you think there will still be chums biting in the river this weekend? I’m thinking of making a trip up from Mount Vernon. If so, are spoons/spinners or jigs under a float more productive for chum at this point? Without giving away any secret spots, any suggestions on where to start fishing and which direction to walk in search of active fish? Thanks so much!
We just recently had temperatures in the low 70s in Northern NY and Vermont. But your cold Canadian wind 💨 didn’t like that, and this morning it is only 28 F. I am a wimp when it comes to cold, so no more lake trout or Atlantic salmon fishing at Lake Champlain for me. Unless we get a wonderful warmup in late November/early December!
Yep! It's a dry bag (or supposed to be, it's not 100% waterproof as I have tested) I got from from Amazon (see link below). I didn't really get it for the waterproofing, but for that slot you pointed out for the net. The waterproofing is good enough for what I do. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01LYBFJU4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Great video. I was fishing the serpentine river and the little Campbell river a couple weeks ago but haven't had any luck. Was thinking of trying somewhere else. Maybe further inland. Any suggestions?
Hey Rod, beautiful day of fishing with the boys. Out of curiosity, how do you pick your fishing location for the day? Are certain spots better early season vs late season? Or weather/conditions dependent? For example, for later in the season would you fish the upper section of the river (since more fish would have moved up?) Or do you just pick one of your spots on the river and just hope that day is productive? Your videos show many different terrains/sections of river and was just curious how do you decide where to start your day off (what's your strategy, not specific spots of course 😉). Thanks in advance!
So to start with, I pretty much only limit myself to fishing the lower part of the river throughout the entire season so I am only targeting fresh fish. There's nothing wrong with fishing further upstream, where fish are more likely to be abundant. I just prefer not to be selective on what I am keeping from what's on my line. Pretty much all of the fish I encounter would be fresh. Lots of info go into how I determine where I want to fish. At the start of the season, I usually like to check out a number of areas where I plan to fish for the season. I'd make a mental note on the water type and make educated guesses on what the runs may look like when the water is higher or lower. Experiences would come in play too. More likely than not, fish would show up at the same area at the same time year after year, so I have a number of spots where I would visit only certain time of the year to maximize success.
@@FishingwithRod Thank you Rod for such a thorough answer. I really appreciate your insight and willingness to share. Ahh, I wish I lived closer to allow more exploratory visits to the river. Alas, I am a dirty city dweller. I will say though, a week ago my wife and I went back to a spot we fished at a couple years ago, and to our shock, the spot was... how should I say it... completely gone? The major flooding last year so-utterly changed the landscape that the once-existing bar is now completely submerged under water. It amazes me how a river is a constantly changing and evolving entity, almost like a living breathing thing. It must be exciting to discover completely new spots that pop up as time goes on and the river landscape changes.
Yep, the morphology of a river is always changing, even without the flood last year. These runs come and go, making exploring a lot of fun. This season was especially exciting since it's like fishing a brand new river.
You are so EVIL Rod, those poor boys could have had a good life in front of the computer getting super fat from burgers and pizza like their friends but nope. You just HAD to take them fishing so they are ruined for life missing all the glorious gaming and takeaway food didnt you.....

Good for the kids activities love to see them happy with their father
Looking forward to seeing your ice fishing video online soon.
Nice work boys
Good care with your release.
That was good, so much fun to watch the younger ones hooking into nice fish.
Thanks!
Very nice. Those kids are more skilled than most adults I see on youtube.
Definitely. Both have put in their time in the last 5 to 7 years to gain these skills.
Great video to wrap up river salmon! Those young men are on point! Thanks, Rod!
Thanks William!
Great video, these two young fellas look so professional and treat fish with respect, many adults should learn from them❤

Excellent parents and mentors.
Awesome video Rodney, Nice fish Kael and laken!! Those are beauties
When we do it again Wyatt, I'll have to get you to come along too. :)
Yeah!!! That would be sick
I wish it was like that in early October, will have to try later in the year next time
Amazing job gentlemen!

That was in fact my rod since Kael didn't bring his spinning rod. It's E6X 1082-2S STR, I favourite spinning rod for coho salmon.
Car top harrison Chehalis estuary at that time couple places closer to misson too

Yaaaay... Now I go to this spot tooooo!!
hey im in chiliwack too where abouts is this fishing spot never found any good spots myself
If you live in Chilliwack, you should have walked the entire river to find those hot spots. There definitely isn’t a shortage of them this season.

Hey rod that spot do you have to fish it during high tide ?
No.
Great video. I was fishing the serpentine river and the little Campbell river a couple weeks ago but haven't had any luck. Was thinking of trying somewhere else. Maybe further inland. Any suggestions?
Tough systems to fish for sure, they are often tight lipped. Chilliwack, Chehalis and other bigger systems are often less challenging.
Please try to refrain from posting small systems like those. They can’t handle the kind of pressure that the Vedder does.
