Great content man! I really appreciate your outlook on fishing and kindness to other people, setting a great example. Hope to run into you on the water someday, I'll be fly fishing the Stave from next week unitl mid December!
Thanks man, l try to do what I can and most of the people on the water are just equally kind, so why not. Yeah I will still be fishing Stave during weekdays until the daylight gets really short.
Fished the Stave a lot in the '90's. We used to avoid the chum by casting parallel to shore for coho. Great cut throat fishery in the spring. Great content, thanks.
Thanks for watching and stopping by to share this tip. I will remember this next time out on the water. It does make sense too because both the coho strikes were near the drop off just a few feet away from the bank.
Now I really think I did a decent job. It was really nice seeing you out on the Vedder the other day. Don't know if you remember but I did stop by to say Hi to you and appreciate all the knowledge you share through your videos and on those decade old blog post comments.
Excellent video with details, instruction for new anglers and great scenery. I was on the upper part of the Stave yesterday and plenty of chum - too many! Thank you for cleaning up after irresponsible people. I have yet to catch that first coho from the Stave. Cheers! Hopefully will bump into you next time I'm out there!
Thanks! It's getting difficult with each passing day to avoid the chum. I think the coho run will peak now and I saw a lot of silver risers last time but they were away from the shore. Good luck, hopefully you catch one soon
Thanks, glad you like it. They are in there, but the chums, (which are high in numbers at Stave) just push the coho away, so if you see a lot of chums, try moving up/down the river.
Congrats and thanks for cleaning up ! Just a suggestion, retrieve the spoon a bit faster, cohos love to chase, you'll get more bites. Notice how you caught that coho on the fast retrieve, it followed closer to the bank.
Thanks bro! I would agree with both of you guys. I personally base the retrieval speed/cadence on the wobble of the spoon. The one that I use is a 3/16oz spoon that my friend custom paints. It doesn't sink fast and wobbles on the slightest retrieve. If I ever use the 3/8oz prime lures spoon then my retrieval speed is a bit faster as it gets to the bottom faster and I often risk snagging the river bed.
nice work. I bonked a 9.5 lb buck and a smaller doe today and a pair of smaller bucks yesterday and a doe the day before that. No one around at all where i fish either lol. hen and silver are american phrases btw, or used to be. Hope to see you on the stave one day I can show you some good spots. Last year there was so many jacks it was ridiculous, this year big coho. I broke my size record early oct with a wild that was crazy big. no photo but what a monster it was. photos of the other fish on my insta
@@lovethemack thanks and congrats man. Experience makes such a big difference in any sport/hobby. That would be my next target, to catch a double digit coho. Hopefully next year. Maybe Stave or Vedder 😅
Hey man this spot looks awesome I was fishing right by the dam today at stave got a few chum but no coho this spot looks awesome where abouts is this if you don’t mind me asking this part of the river looks really good I would love to fish there loved the video to keep it up
@@mightyfly5593 it's such a small river, if you drive around you will figure it out. If I give it all, then there is no fun left in the sport. Also the cohos don't always stick around on the same spot as you might already be aware.
How was the river after all the rain? What a nice person to leave you a fish bag to clean up everyone's garbage. Thanks for helping clean up and nice video! I will be trying out the stave now that chum have been opened.
The coho I got was on the first good evening after the big rain dump. With high tide the water is above the regular level and a lot of dead chums are washed on the shore. The mess will be back and will be bigger now that they have opened chum I think.
@@crankbaiter_fishing definitely, the mess is always there unfortunately. I was at the vedder on wed, peach road because why not, water levels were super high so I tossed a spoon and caught my fish coho on a spoon. Then I caught 7 more and a spring. What a wild day. Hopefully see you on the river one day, like the other person mentioned, you have a great outlook on fishing.

@@reckiedoodles I really appreciate this. Hopefully next year when I have salmon specific gear, I will be fishing the Vedder and upper stave more often. My do it all bass gear is just underpowered for salmon.
@crankbaiter_fishing i have extra gear if you're really keen. The satisfaction of a bobber down is something else. You have to have the right depth, drift and bait to make that presentation for the fish to take your bait. When all of that happens, it's so good.
@@Maxfishingbc I have fished Vedder only twice and I am not a fly guy either. But I am guessing you are looking for frog/slow moving water? The lower river/canal might be a good starting point.
@@crankbaiter_fishing what ever works right? Rock, stick or ikejime lol... or even a little bonker in you back pack. I'm no better anyways.. i eat my fish live.
I will have to get out my small spinners to catch those jacks. With more chum nearing the end of their spawning cycle and washing up on the shallows, it gets even more difficult to get a nice clean retrieve to the shore without hitting them.
@crankbaiter_fishing I have personally seen twitching jigs works well to entice the larger Coho to bite. Saw a old guy once pull 10 large Coho out of one hole at the Stave!
