Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
During the winter months, their metabolism seems to slow down and they become less aggressive and more finicky, so best off fishing as light as possible and going for a more stealthy "finesse" approach over hook set and landing efficiency. For me, when land base fishing, I find that when it's cold nothing beats a light leader, well hidden hook and weightless rig.
My dad owns a shrimp farm and we always bottom fish at the water pumps. We would always use shrimp as bait from trucks that carried the shrimp to some kind of boxing station or something, the shrimp are already dead when they arrive. We would always catch Muttons, last time we went fishing at the pumps we caught 3 keepers.
On the Alabama/Mississippi gulf coast there are so many red snapper on the reefs they seem to be starving! They will bite ANYTHING as soon as it gets deep enough to disappear. Its hard to catch anything else because the snapper are so over populated but the government treats red snapper as endangered species. They are crowding out other species which the government will soon name 'endangered' but its not from over-fishing, its from under-fishing red snapper!
You should bring it up with the people who work to protect fish. The government has its flaws but I love the fact that they put regulations to keep species from extinction.
@@totalannihilation9065 its the MONEY! Those that waste and kill the most fish are the commercial fisherman. They as an organized group have the ability to deliver suitcases of money to the politicians thus, they get the more days to catch. It's the same as everything else in government "Whom ever has the most money, wins!"
