Push to try and get the hallway finished in our French Townhouse renovation

  • A lime plaster was required to get the levels on the wall right as the old plaster had just fallen off the bottom of the wall. This wall will then get a finishing coat of plaster and once that is done it can be painted and then we can put the floor in. There is a bit more to do under the stairs with a trap door required for access to the basement, some steps built to get down there, and some plasterboard on the walls under the stairs. This space is really key to the house functioning well for us. Currently coats and shoes and other stuff is everywhere and the house is just a mess because of it.

Its so great you are able to spend so much time working on the house to complete it all!! Rather than being away from the family they are right there too. Much better than having to try to get it done on weekends and away at an office through the week!!

I know it was the cheaper option to use the same floor but for an aesthetic value it’s going to be banging. Nothing worse than 10 different rooms with 10 different types of flooring. Well done! ❤️🇨🇦

It makes a huge difference Gabriele. I just did a finishing coat on top of that again and it looks quite sharp. Perhaps one more light coat required as the walls were in pretty back condition on the bottom half.

Have you considered using g some key to create a wainscotting paneling in the hall...inexpensive and adds a nice detail to that area and saves damage from the little ones to the walls :). Enjoy watching your vids and admire your work ethic...regards from texas

Hi Catherine. We'd love to do some panelling around the house as the high ceilings really lend themselves to that style and with dogs and small boys they would be easy to wipe down. I just need to make sure that the damp issues that we currently have because the soil is up against the house is sorted first, otherwise the wood would just get damp.

Many here just have lower temperatures inside during night, and higher daytime, but i heard from a heating engineer that the savings by letting temperature drop gets lost whem you try to raise it again ..... Best effect is having a even temperature but a bit lower, maybe just 1/2 to 1 degree ....
That engineer had an interesting ventilation system by ventilating the warm air from upstairs to the colder downstairs or even the basement - that way he got a even temperature in the whole house ..

It's really interesting you should mention this. Our heaters are connected to the WIFI and you can create basic tasks for turning on and off etc. We have separate little devices for measuring the temperature in the rooms that show us historic temperatures so you can see what is going on and cross reference with the heating timing. That was grand but a lot of guess work in figuring out what was going on so I did a bit of research and found a bit of software that talks to all these devices and now I can make the heaters turn on and off based on the info received from the temperature gauges. It can also do lots more and I'm planning to make a video about it at some point. Anyway...! Getting back to the subject since I've installed this software I've told the heater in the bedroom only to turn on once it drops below a certain temperature and to turn off once it hits another temperature. Only about 1 degree in the difference but we are using a fraction of the KW in there now and we have a lovely constant heat. The outside temperature has increased a bit during the day but night time temps are still dropping to 3 or 4 degrees and the room is staying above 17 degrees. Our attic gets really warm on hot days so I leave the door open and it warms the upstairs. Living in a house like this it is all about managing the doors. Whatever you do don't leave a door open!

@@dublinvanlife466 i actually have celing fans in my stairwell to even out the temperature between upstairs and down.....
I have a programble shunt for regulation of heat - have a water based hearing system, with a stowe in the basement hetating the water ...
I use wood pellets in the stowe, fed from a storage unit 7 meters away - 4 tons full. Need two of those per year .... Bulk-system ..
A friend of mine used the wood insert for a fireplace, that has a built in fan, he connected that to a ventilation system for the whole house - worked good .... He used firewood ..

Hi Beverly. 10 minutes away is a small town where we do a weekly grocery shopping. 40 minutes away is Limoges. It has everything that you could need. And in our little village which is a 30 second walk away we have a small grocery shop, a bar, a kind of community centre, a little library that is also a tea shop and a place that sells electrical goods!
