    In my opinion it's probably a cable routing issue, routing the cables across the head tube is usually the best way to go. I'm pretty sure the hole the shift cable is going through is supposed to be for a dropper cable

    • @edwardtoole8123
      @edwardtoole8123 5 місяців тому

      Every bike that I've had with a dropper the cable is routed on the drive side of the frame. The shifter cable should definitely be on the same side that the brake cable is routed.

    Lovely Father and Son moment to open the show. I've got the X2 still. Collecting dust in the barn. Was nice to see the old friend Ledge X1 again.

    I love that you guys get to hang out and have common interests. I wish me and my dad had been more like that before he passed. It was likely much my fault though. Hoping my son and I do better. So far, he loves hunting and fishing and bikes, just like me, so far so good. lol. Anyway.... Loving the channel. Keep up the great work guys. Watching you guys religiously.

    You could try using the cable port on the left for the rear shifter and the right port for a dropper in the future.

    Love the Ledge, and it always reminds me of Lawson when you bring it back. So I would definitely reroute the shifter to the non drive side. I though I had seen somewhere where your cables and hoses should always route around the front of the head tube and into the opposite side so shifter around the head tube to the non drive side, and dropper around to the drive side (at least in America, opposite in the UK). I would love to see some more rear shock vids too I know Marzocchi makes a cheaper rear shock.

    Regarding the pivot bearings, you will likely need a bearing press to press them in and out, there are several episodes of Berm Peak where Seth uses one of these to change out bearings. I highly doubt you would need to replace them just yet, but taking the frame apart in order to access, clean, and re-grease the bearings would likely be a good idea. I need to do this on my YT Capra actually, it’s been creaking a fair amount and needs cleaned. Also I love the episode where you chase down Lawson on his expensive bike, pure Gold!

    I really like my Marzocchi Z2! It's even better now I've done a lower service and installed a set of oil soaked foam rings in there. It lacked those from the factory. Great fork. That bike is a monster! Probably the best budget big box store Full Sus out there

    I was having the same issue with my Advent X on my Mongoose Argus Trail. Come to find out one of the zip ties holding the cable was a bit to tight (my fault). It was creating to much friction causing hard shifting. You might have a similar issue somewhere in the system. I’m sure if you redo the cable and wiring while being careful around the areas it can get bound up, it will be great again. I also lubed up the shifting cable before I put it into the cable (TriFlow) . Shifts like butter again.
    You guys are how I found MicroSHIFT, most of my bikes have MicroSHIFT once I wear out whatever if on them. Thanks!

    There's definitely some love here. You can feel it in the fights;)
    I was never a huge fan of the Ledge (line up), too pricey for my cheap butt & in need of suspension upgrades that add to the cost. That problem is only made worse by the fact that big box bikes now have nice offerings for less. You definitely turned it into a sweet bike, but at what cost?
    I may get that Acolyte groupset for my Mongoose, a Dolomite ALX.

    I would put the shifter cable housing into the frame on the non drive side and drill out the cable mounts on the drive side chainstay and run a new housing and cable front to back

    For the record, the X1 and X2 share the same frame. I just completed my X1 budget build (previously did an Ardor budget build). Running wide WTB i40s (thru axles that needed quite a bit of mods to fit, and fit the brakes, rubber is 27.5 x 2.8, Himalo 160 fork (love the Himalo 160 on my Ardor), cheap DNM coil shock but feels good to a hardtailer like myself. New bars, headset, sealed bearings, 125mm dropper, advent 1 x 9 trans with 34 oval up front, keeping the mechanical brakes for now. Love this bike. And yes, think u should replace the cable for the shifter.

    • @adamtaylor4627
      @adamtaylor4627 2 місяці тому

      How did you get a thru axle on the rear wheel of your bike?! I bought a set of Roval Traverse wheels and both are thru axle, so I need to either convert the rear wheel to quick release, or even better, find a way to convert it FROM quick release to thru axle. Can you share what you had to do?

      @@adamtaylor4627i bought a QR converter axle and it works out well, after getting it properly centered. And for the record did the same for the front, as I am riding a QR fork. But it took alot more customizing including grinding down the end caps and drilling out washers for shims.

    Replace the shift cable and housing. That old housing is pinching the cable. The routing is fine, but the housing is a tad long which is making too sharp of a bend and causing that pinch.
    When you run the new housing, turn the bars all the way left and making the housing just long enough to reach the shifter barrell. It'll end up being probably 2-3 inches shorter than the old housing.
    That should fix your shifting issues.

    The major drawback of those z2 forks aside from rebuilding the bushings are not replaceable you have to replace the lowers every other year depends how much you ride but ya only on the z2 forks you would need to spend around$150-$170 on lowers to replace bushings reason why I will be upgrading my suspension

    Good luck finding a Ledge X1 or X2.... It's discontinued by Mongoose and they've replaced it with the over priced Amazon version called the "Impasse 2.0". 🙄
    Edit: When I bought my first AOY36RC, It leaked air whenever I went up above 200 psi. I went to a local bike shop to ask a mechanic and he said they actually have a max psi of only 200, which would explain why my first one leaked so much air. My 2nd one is over a year old and still performing great.

    I was determined to get a Ledge until they were ghost... now recently I found one at Walmart and I almost got it but the reason talked me out of it.... I plan to alternate MTB and gravel (I ride a Poseidon Redwood) and pay $500 for a dual suspension frame is too much for me (I give a royal dime (%$&*)) if it's outdated frame but still it doesn't make financially.

  • @gregnowak2492
    @gregnowak2492 5 місяців тому

    I think Wolfman answered it.... Is it worth $500 as is? Or is is it worth $500, then upgrading it? It wouldn't take long to throw $700-$800 in it, on top of the $500 initial cost. So the question should be, is there another bike that is around $1300 that would fulfill everything you need? There are so many choices now in that price range. I really like the look of that bike though. The frame looks very nice.

    • @wil717
      @wil717 Місяць тому

      That is the very question that I had to answer, and there were fs bikes in the same range as my end product budget build but did not have the setup i wanted. The X1 budget build checked all the boxes in regard to components because I literally chose every single one (and a couple of times I chose wrong initially). At the end of the day, there wasn't another bike that i wouldn't have pulled off components at that price point that matches the budget build budget.

    Sorry guy's I learned about this ledge and had to sell it. it was nice but had it's short comings. I wish mongoose would have built it better. I rode it and it wears out fast and has not that much rear travel and it all, It wears out the bushings in the rear triangle so much and it gets so lose and wobbly out the back it's worthless! I was so pissed I put so much into mine and it just don't hold up at all and have fun trying to get replacement bushings and stuff from mongoose it's near impossible there service is so bad! Bearings in the top rocker all the rest cheap bushings in fact I drilled out my rear triangle and put better quality larger metal bushings in it and it was way better but still had slop eventually after riding, nothing like a full bearing suspension bike that's the downfall of the ledge you just waste your $ putting everything on it when you could get a better bike and have no worries... Like I ended up doing I got me the polygon D5 and it is so much better and for about the same price as the ledge when I added all my upgrades to it ! O an the ledges rear suspension is a joke it bobs like crazy when you put the power down also.
