As a Hispanic convert while most may argue that it is not of the main catholic belief to pray to Mary, the mass majority of Catholics actually do pray to Mary and not just ask her for intercession. This was common practice throughout my family and is the reason some of my other family members became evangelical Christian’s and partly due to why I became a Muslim. Edit: I appreciate all of the love from everyone, I have been a Muslim now for about two years and have made it one of my duties to spread dawah to those around me. In the past two years I have read the Quran 3 times, have been studying Sahih Bukhari and have watched hours upon hours of lectures from religious scholars. Before converting I was well versed in theology across cultures but Alhamdulilah Islam is the true path. May Allah (swt) bless you all.
You are not the first I heard say this. I just saw a video today and Ali Dawah was just talking to some young boys around 15, 16 and he asked them their religion they said Catholic and one of them said out of his own mouth that they pray to Mary and Jesus.

This is the verse related to the trinity: “O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about God except the truth. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, God is but one God. Subhanahu He is free from the imperfection of having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is God as Disposer of affairs.” Notice that the verse says do not say three. It does not state don't say trinity. Indicating don't go in excess by stating God is three in one. Christians are adding to the God-head by stating the three in one statement, no matter what you label it as. About the verse you quoted. There are people who place God-like attributes to humans like Jesus and Mary, his mother. God-like attributes means stating that they are all hearing of prayers, all hearing in general, all knowing, all powerful, they are the only way to salvation. That is called placing God-like attributes to created beings. The Quran says about those statements SubhanAllah (and its variations), it is a negation statement. The words negates imperfections by glorfication. It is equivalent to stating “how perfect is God!” Usually it follows with reason why God is perfect in His divine attributes that created beings, like humans, cannot have. The word is translated loosely as “Glory be to God, or God is free from imperfections, or exalted is God.” That is what I say to my Christian brother and sisters, How perfect is God!

Let’s look at what Jesus Christ had to say on the matter. As John 17:18-21 states: As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. Look at that last verse again. Jesus asks the Father to help the believers become one as He and the Father are one. If Trinitarianism were true, Jesus would have been asking for the impossible, as it is impossible for mortals to be one in the way that Trinitarians say that Christ and the Father are one. So clearly, either Trinitarianism is false, or Jesus was asking for the impossible, which I highly doubt Jesus would do. In reality, the unity between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is figurative. And just as they have a figurative unity, so can we have a figurative unity. Yes, in John 10:30, Christ says “I and my father are one.” That is true. However, again, that unity is a figurative unity. If it were a literal unity, it would contradict John 17. But so long as we interpret John 10:30 figuratively, all of these passages work together. Trinitarianism arose as an attempt to reconcile Christian theology with Greek philosophy. It is not biblical, and it is not true. This is the kind of thing that happens when your religious leaders rise to power based on scholarly merit rather than prophetic calling.

Catholics also pray to Mary and call her the "mother of God." That is definitely considered worship. "Holy Mary mother of God, pray for our.... and at the hour...blah blah blah." That is worship! May Allah protect us from false worship and taking others as Gods.

Even if that quran verse claim Jesus and Mary part of trinity its still historically accurate, cus there's early sect of Christianity that worship family trinity as God the father, Jesus the son, and Mary the mother. They even predate Nicea council trinity. Quran always W alhamdulilah.

Saying Christian's take Jesus as a deity besides God makes no sense. We believe Jesus IS GOD. We don't believe in 3 seperate Gods nor do we worship Mary. I have also never seen anyone kneel down to Mary. I'm Catholic and we respect Mary with all our hearts but we are aware that she's not divine nor a deity nor a Goddess. We believe that there is only one God and one God only, we worship a single being not 3. The Trinity is a complex and slightly confusing concept but once you realize how it works it will make much more sense. I will happily explain the Trinity to anyone in the replies, I'm not going to do it in this comment cause it's already too long. Make sure you like my comment so people could be aware of this.

We didn't sacrifice him, he laid his own life down, as a free gift. If you accept that gift, freely given, your sins are forgiven on that basis, penalty of death, paid.

It’s just one mistake of many. It mentions three and claims God is one, it’s pretty clear. It also says Mary was the daughter of Amram and sister of Aaron. Both wrong. It also says Jews called Ezra the son of God, never happened. It also says Alexander the Great was a Muslim. Not true. It also says that Pharoah crucified people when it wasn’t invented yet. It says a Samaritan led astray the Israelites to worship the golden calf, which didn’t exist yet. It’s clear it’s just riddled with errors.

Praying and worship are two different things. The first means asking, if you read old English, they will often use pray instead of ask. Worship is giving for homage to God, knowing he is the one and only Creator.

The very first thing that makes me to believe that Islam is more logical, easy to understand is the TAWHEED which speaks about the God (Allah) being alone who neither begets nor begotten. He is the only Creator of the heavens and the Earth. Unlike other Gods in other faith, Allah has no common attributes with his creation such as being perfect and being ignorant at the same time. The other reason why Islam makes more sense is because it is a religion in which it is perfect and has solution to all problems. Furthermore, in Christianity the concept of God does not logically make sense. WHY MIGHT YOU WONDER? Let's talk about the Trinity. How can God be three but one at the same time? Would you count three people (individuals) as a person? See, it doesn't look logical to the minuscule capacity of the human brain. Also, if people believe that just being born out of a virgin woman would make Jesus (pbuh) God; then Adam (pbuh) is far more deserved to be called the son of God because he was born without having Mother nor Father. This depends on how you define praying as. If praying is defined as worshiping/asking a Deity than it that case no, catholics do not pray to Mary. But praying can also be defined as begging in that case yes catholics do pray to Mary. They pray to Mary to beg for her to in turn pray to God so that the wish of the person may be fulfilled. Most Catholics historically only have high respect for Mary, but don’t pray as if she were God, I and also many other famous catholic preachers and pastors do affirm that there are a lot of things Catholics say and do that are sus like the Hail Mary prayer, but Catholics do believe that the trinity consists of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Unfortunately in Latin America a lot of Catholic Churches have become corrupt and have abandoned most traditional teachings, but historically, and most in America, Catholics do not believe that Mary is any type of God or Goddess. Also the term “Mother of God” used when referring to Mary can be misleading when taken out of context. Mary is not eternal, but Jesus is. We kneel down when we pray to Mary (and we do pray to her) as a form of respect and honor NOT adoration. Intercessory prayer to her is by definition not an act of worship. We are asking her to intercede… if she was Divine there would be no need for “intercession”, but as she is not, we ask her to intercede for us to the Divine, the Eternal. We do believe she is with God in Heaven.
To be fair... there's a whole spirituality in Catholicism called "holy slavery" or "total consecration" that regards Mary as "the quasi-incarnation of the holy spirit"
As a Hispanic convert while most may argue that it is not of the main catholic belief to pray to Mary, the mass majority of Catholics actually do pray to Mary and not just ask her for intercession. This was common practice throughout my family and is the reason some of my other family members became evangelical Christian’s and partly due to why I became a Muslim.
Edit: I appreciate all of the love from everyone, I have been a Muslim now for about two years and have made it one of my duties to spread dawah to those around me. In the past two years I have read the Quran 3 times, have been studying Sahih Bukhari and have watched hours upon hours of lectures from religious scholars. Notice that the verse says do not say three. It does not state don't say trinity. Indicating don't go in excess by stating God is three in one. Christians are adding to the God-head by stating the three in one statement, no matter what you label it as.
About the verse you quoted. There are people who place God-like attributes to humans like Jesus and Mary, his mother. God-like attributes means stating that they are all hearing of prayers, all hearing in general, all knowing, all powerful, they are the only way to salvation. That is called placing God-like attributes to created beings. The Quran says about those statements SubhanAllah (and its variations), it is a negation statement. The words negates imperfections by glorfication. It is equivalent to stating “how perfect is God!” Usually it follows with reason why God is perfect in His divine attributes that created beings, like humans, cannot have. The word is translated loosely as “Glory be to God, or God is free from imperfections, or exalted is God.”

As John 17:18-21 states:

Look at that last verse again. Jesus asks the Father to help the believers become one as He and the Father are one.
If Trinitarianism were true, Jesus would have been asking for the impossible, as it is impossible for mortals to be one in the way that Trinitarians say that Christ and the Father are one.
So clearly, either Trinitarianism is false, or Jesus was asking for the impossible, which I highly doubt Jesus would do.
In reality, the unity between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is figurative. And just as they have a figurative unity, so can we have a figurative unity.
Yes, in John 10:30, Christ says “I and my father are one.” That is true. However, again, that unity is a figurative unity. If it were a literal unity, it would contradict John 17. But so long as we interpret John 10:30 figuratively, all of these passages work together.

Now tell me, when people worshipped before the kabba, Mohamed made them bow before Jesus and Mary along with Allah the lord of the kabba.
If Allah is a true God, Then He should have asked the same question to mohamed..

Saying Christian's take Jesus as a deity besides God makes no sense. We believe Jesus IS GOD. We don't believe in 3 seperate Gods nor do we worship Mary. I have also never seen anyone kneel down to Mary. I'm Catholic and we respect Mary with all our hearts but we are aware that she's not divine nor a deity nor a Goddess. We believe that there is only one God and one God only, we worship a single being not 3. The Trinity is a complex and slightly confusing concept but once you realize how it works it will make much more sense. I will happily explain the Trinity to anyone in the replies, I'm not going to do it in this comment cause it's already too long. Make sure you like my comment so people could be aware of this.

It’s just one mistake of many. It mentions three and claims God is one, it’s pretty clear. It also says Mary was the daughter of Amram and sister of Aaron. Both wrong. It also says Jews called Ezra the son of God, never happened. It also says Alexander the Great was a Muslim. Not true. It also says that Pharoah crucified people when it wasn’t invented yet. It says a Samaritan led astray the Israelites to worship the golden calf, which didn’t exist yet.
It’s clear it’s just riddled with errors.

Praying and worship are two different things. The first means asking, if you read old English, they will often use pray instead of ask. Worship is giving for homage to God, knowing he is the one and only Creator.

First of all, I do respect all the religions and the people that follows whatever belief or faith.
The very first thing that makes me to believe that Islam is more logical, easy to understand is the TAWHEED which speaks about the God (Allah) being alone who neither begets nor begotten. He is the only Creator of the heavens and the Earth. Unlike other Gods in other faith, Allah has no common attributes with his creation such as being perfect and being ignorant at the same time. The other reason why Islam makes more sense is because it is a religion in which it is perfect and has solution to all problems.
Furthermore, in Christianity the concept of God does not logically make sense.
WHY MIGHT YOU WONDER?
Let's talk about the Trinity. How can God be three but one at the same time? Would you count three people (individuals) as a person? See, it doesn't look logical to the minuscule capacity of the human brain. Also, if people believe that just being born out of a virgin woman would make Jesus (pbuh) God; then Adam (pbuh) is far more deserved to be called the son of God because he was born without having Mother nor Father.
Anyways, I hope it answered at least 25% of your question since I am not a scholar.

And yes Collyridians existed but they were a small sect and there’s no evidence it survived until the time of Muhammed. And seriously there are really two options here:
a) Muhammed heard of the great respect that Catholics have for Mary and Muhammed missunderstood it (he did the same in surah 9:30= The Jews say, “Ezra is the son of Allah,”) And the fact that you see veneration and worship in the same sense is wrong. The verse says: “worship you and your mother as gods besides Allah” Catholics don’t take Mary as a God and pray to her for intercession not because she is God (those are heresies condemned by the catholic Church)
b) He was talking about an incredibly small sect in arabia that died centuries before Muhammed’s birth. Why didn’t he talk about Marcionism a significantly bigger sect that said that God the Father wasn’t God. So Muhammed would have talked about a sect that wasn’t even present anymore and if some knowledge of it remained it was in Arabia, you see how this backfires, if he was talking about the Collyridians he was doing because he heard of it, like the story of the sleepers of the cave or of Alexander the Great or Jesus breathing life in a bird made of Clay. This depends on how you define praying as. If praying is defined as worshiping/asking a Deity than it that case no, catholics do not pray to Mary. But praying can also be defined as begging in that case yes catholics do pray to Mary. They pray to Mary to beg for her to in turn pray to God so that the wish of the person may be fulfilled. In Mark 9:23 it is told that with enough belief in God everything is possible and who believes in God more than Mary?

Also the term “Mother of God” used when referring to Mary can be misleading when taken out of context. Mary is not eternal, but Jesus is. You didn’t even read the article about Collyridianism. It clearly states that the practice of worshipping Mary was considered heretical by the Church
We kneel down when we pray to Mary (and we do pray to her) as a form of respect and honor NOT adoration. Intercessory prayer to her is by definition not an act of worship. We are asking her to intercede… if she was Divine there would be no need for “intercession”, but as she is not, we ask her to intercede for us to the Divine, the Eternal. We do believe she is with God in Heaven.
To be fair... there's a whole spirituality in Catholicism called "holy slavery" or "total consecration" that regards Mary as "the quasi-incarnation of the holy spirit"
