I have been born again in June 2021, after being absent or even an enemy of God for 30 years. I was baptised catholic as a baby and had to attended mass every sunday, first communion, altar boy, firmation, all of it. It is shocking to me - that I was really believing in God, what is easy, if you are brought up that way, but how defensless and vulnerable I was to the world and it's teachings, because there was no interlectual backup of my believe.
I wouldn't have been able to knit together a coherent explanation of the Gospel at age 18. I never really heard something about the trinity. Never knew the importance of scripture and how everything ties together. It is really irresponsable of such churches. Or maybe even on purpose? I don't know...
It is really hard, to return to faith, after your head has been filled with all the knowledge and explanation of the world, how the world works. But luckily, God can do anything and has supernatural means. And we are created to believe.
I don't think its intentional, it's really dense stuff for children or young adults to understand. Even at age 29/30 myself I can barely begin to comprehend. The problem is young people are being targeted to be led astray, exactly because of what you are saying. I'm not sure what could be done, it's sad really.

It’s a difficult concept for a young person took me years as a catholic to understand the trinity , infact im still trying to comprehend it, but the name trinity and concept,came from early catholic scholars, it’s in the bible but the church took a while to flesh the idea out as we know,it, it was the feast of the holy trinity the other day you would have experienced that if you were a catholic but understandably might not of understood it. I also came to appreciate my,baptism as a baby and say the baptismal vows for myself, I hope for all,Catholics to appreciate the true meaning of born again. We are born again through baptism which is,where we are born of water,and spirit,ie the grace of god, it’s sad to not understand that the sacrament were gods Grace freely given thanks to our parents who,presented us to lord who graced us on that special day. Regarding ‘born again experiences’.you could try the blessed,sacrament, it can be v moving in the spirit to be face to face with our lord.

I always used partialism heresy to explain the trinity because I didn't know how else to explain it, ofc now that I know it's a heresy, I'll stop using it and try to rap my mind around how the trinity actually works. Good video, and keep up the good work
It seems like a very easy heresy to fall into because God is really complex and us humans like to simplify things into easy-to-understand concepts.
The easiest way, really, is to reiterate the Athanasian Creed. The whole "Father is not Son is not Holy Spirit" triangle thing where they all converge on "is God" is the best visual representation. Though, the clover analogy can be a really good way to lay a foundation, and then explain more in depth how it's not completely accurate. It could be easier for you to explain what the Trinity is not, rather than try to convey what it is.
Trinitarian analogies can be useful if you make the necessary distinctions and negations.
I see no issue with partialism because that is a limited understanding of what God is.
One third of infinity is still infinity.
One third of nothing is still nothing.
God can be divided and God can also (at the same time) NOT be divided because God is all powerful.
Similarly, the “can God create a stone so heavy God cannot move it?” is no puzzle to me; the answer is YES!. God is, was, can be, will be, all things and no things because otherwise God would be limited.
We might misunderstand this, but that’s only because we cannot know God as God is.
Every human being has a body, soul and mind.

Because it’s a doctrine of man. There was a debate of over the nature of God. It got so intense that there was a declaration that those who didn’t believe in the view that was popular should be killed, but then the popular view changed and those who didn’t believe that view should be killed.

For example, a king would say: "We order you to...", not "I order you to..."
It's the same with God. Since He is the uncaused causer, it's only proper to refer to one being in the plural.

I was not able to put Jesus in the equation spiritually. I was able to connect with God and the Holy Spirit but Jesus was a deeply intangible variable in this equation (mostly because of his human nature). Look into the Targums (Jewish historical text) buddy. John was writing to an audience that understood his literature. According to the Targums, the word of the lord is called God and was the creator of the world. He’s also called the Angel of the covenant and the Shekinah.
The Targums explicitly calls the word of the lord, the son of God. Even Jewish mysticism attributes the Shekinah as the Son of God.
If you read the Bible in its historical context, you would appreciate it better. Look into the early church fathers that died believing in their faith and they are the ones that brought you the Bible you have in your hands today 😊

@@cinesanti7 Even though it has been also difficult for me to fully accept Jesus's Godly nature, the scriptures you referred does not seem to disprove it. What I'm about to write is only the logic of the New Testament (you may or may not accept) not arguments to present you as wrong, just arguments that the New Testament claims Jesus to be the same God as Abraham's, Isaac's and Jacob's.
- Jesus is not a hand made creation of man, in fact he was conceived by God. Therefore he does not seem to be lifeless handmade idol, nor descendant of Adam, inheriting original sin.
- Jesus actively directs everyone to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Therefore he is not a human who deceives other's to follow different gods, in fact, he wants people to follow the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- The Trinity nature describes how Jesus is not a different God than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Therefore following Jesus means to follow the very same God (this part is tricky to understand, I admit)
- The New Testament only claims that the Jewish God is not only the God of the Jews, but every gentiles', too. And that accepting this God our heart needs to be altered by seeking God, not only our actions needs to be altered by the Jewish Laws (that originally would have helped to change the hearts but for most people following the Laws become only a lifeless routine rather than an approaching act to God). And for this heart altering process we don't need a phisical temple and appointed priest who are the only ones to contact with God. And this is possible because of the self-sacrifice of God, who is also his own Son. Because only sacrificing God can restore the possibility of direct connection for man with God.
I don't think that these things contradict with the Old Testament. They are just really, really, REALLY strange approach to them that I can completely understand why it is difficult to accept. And I don't blame anyone from Jewish background claiming it to be at least a misinterpretation.
From my side, as a raised Christian, I like the idea (and the experience) that I can go to God directly. That I don't need any mediation, nor ritual. And I can't see any other explanation how it changed over the history other than the story of Jesus. Even if it is also difficult for me to understand.

Glad I watched this, I was thinking of the trinity in modalism terms, but never considered how each person of the trinity interacted with one another. After I heard the description, I started thinking this, then busted out laughing when the three phases of water analogy came up because that's exactly how I was thinking about it.

In legend, St. Augustine was walking down the beach trying to understand the Trinity when he encountered a child on the beach who was taking water from the ocean and pouring it into a hole he had made in the sand. Augustine asked what he was doing and the child replied, "I'm going to put the whole ocean into this hole." Augustine scoffed and said, "Silly child, this is simply not possible." The child stood up, faced Augustine and said, "and you'll never be able to fit the Trinity into your tiny head." Then the child floated into heaven. Maybe we, as Christians, should take this same humility and just accept the Trinity in faith. Sometimes, the constant search for truth draws us too much into ourselves, instead of into faith with God. This was a great realization of St. Augustine from his book Confessions, that in his quest for truth he often forgot to just simply have faith.

My understanding of the essential nature of the concept is that God is both the Greatest (the Father) and the Smallest (the Spirit), and also with us humans in between those two extremes (the Son). God fills the whole universe! And even we humans have a place in Heaven :-)

I want to try to help you with some of these questions, I am new to the faith but I have also thought about these things before. I can tell that you're not saying this out of bitterness or anger, it's very respectable that you still keep his commandments despite being somewhat confused.
What you said about our desires being given to us by God, remember that we distort their true use into sin. Without pain, hunger, attraction, we would get hurt more, starve, and die out. Understand that your struggles and sin is not God's ideal, nor was it ordained in you.
At the end you sounded somewhat frustrated with the 'futility' of christian life and virtue. Christianity is not just about "death to self", it is about being born again in Christ. In the moment, and the beginning, it may feel like a terrible battle which will never end. Remember that one part of the Trinity is the Holy Spirit, Jesus calls it our comforter. The Holy Spirit is meant to change our desires so that this fight against our flesh begins to fade away. Look into C.S Lewis for more about this.
Lastly you mentioned suffering. Know that this world we're in is not the ideal, or the design, it is a fallen world because of our own terrible sin. The reason for the Tree in the garden and all other suffering is so that we have free will to love God. We cannot truly love God if we're forced into doing so. There's nothing virtuous about Adam and Eve being trapped in a garden with no choice in anything. The entire story of the Bible and creation is love deafeating suffering. God allows evil in the world, suffering in your life, and Jesus to be tortured, so that love could overcome the evil in the world. It doesn't always look that way I know, but if God truly wanted to avoid all evil he would also have to avoid all love.
You probably still have many questions, so do I, it is just important that you stay faithful and trusting of God (to be honest you seem to have a stronger faith than I do). Just know that this life is not meant to be torturous, and that many of these questions have answers.

Does a Christian need to believe in the Trinity to be saved? And if so, why did our Savior, nor the disciples, ever teach the doctrine of the Trinity? Why would Christians give credence to a council of men coming together to argue who God is (The Council of Nicaea in 325 CE), and thereby seek to define God? Can mankind define God? No, God reveals Himself to mankind. 1 John 5:7-8, The Johannine Comma is an interpolation according to Christian scholars (words added) to the Bible by over-zealous Trinitarians, who wanted some testimony to the Trinity, due to the fact that in the Bible there is none. Matthew 28:19 has come under suspicion, a commandment allegedly given by Christ to the disciples, but the disciples only baptized in the Savior’s name only, as demonstrated in the Book of Acts. The early church historian Eusebius, wrote (published circa 316 CE) in his book, Matthew 28:19, that Christ actually said, "Go and make disciples of all the nations in my name" (Eusebius, The History of the Church, p. 68, PENGU1N CLASSICS, 1965). The Trinity has only really existed since the 4th century. Historian H.G. Wells factually stated, "There is no evidence that the apostles of Jesus ever heard of the Trinity-at any rate from Him" (The Outline of History, Vol. 2, p. 499). Protestant professor of Theology James White, states, “The Trinity doctrine is misunderstood as well as ignored. According to James White, around 75% of Christians, who think themselves to be Trinitarians, are actually Modalists. Modalism: One God who at different times represents Himself in three different modes of being: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. If belief in the Trinity doctrine is so critical to our salvation, then why did Christ and the disciples not preach the Trinity, which historically developed over 300 years after Christ? To say that one must believe in the Trinity in order to be saved, when Christ never stipulated the doctrine as a prerequisite for salvation is the grossest form of legalism! The man-made Trinity Doctrine is so ingrained into the imagination of Christians for salvation when Christ and the apostles never ever taught it, that many will actually stand condemned for believing in the Trinity according to the Tradition of men, and not of God. Christ warned us about teaching doctrines without one thus says the LORD! And He...said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men…” He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition” (Mark 7:6-9). Christians do not need to believe in the Trinity in order to receive salvation and eternal life in the Kingdom of God! If Christians needed to believe in the Trinity in order to be saved, then it would be taught in the New Testament by our Lord and Savior, and it, the Trinity, was not taught in the New Testament. The Trinity is a useless Doctrine based solely on the misunderstanding of men. It is time for Christians to free themselves from the doctrines of men. The Son of God declared: “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58). YAH is the meaning of I AM. By this statement, Christ told the Jews that He is their God, the very God of Israel. Not to take this statement as true in that He, the Son of God, is lesser than His Father and God is tantamount to calling Him a liar. Based on everything presented here, the statement by churches that one must believe in the Trinity in order to be saved is the highest form of legalism. But doesn’t Elohim prove the Trinity, after all it is plural. No. Elohim means Gods. The Trinity is the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God, and yet not three Gods [Elohim], One God [Eloah, or EL]. The true definition of Elohim is the God of gods (Deuteronomy 10:17).

Because it will be confusing to explain what happened when Jesus prayed in Gethsemane before He was caught with the Oneness philosophy. Like, to whom He was prayed? Is He some demiurge here, by calling out to the Father to glorify Himself with the glory He had with The Father before the world began? Or is He the God himself? If He and The Father are one being in that garden, does that mean He prayed to Himself alone? Or maybe it's the human nature of Jesus that is praying? Since the Son is eternally begotten of the Father, as is the Holy Spirit, it would be logical if it was so in the OT and the world's beginning. God also use pluralis a lot when he speaks of himself.

It’s not. It’s a common theme throughout history. The Hindus did it with puranic Hinduism (the Trimurti of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma all being Brahman).
There is Hecate who is the triple goddess in Greek mythology. It’s arguable that even things like the Fates, the Graces, and the Furies are three personifications on divinity. There was a cult that had Apollo, Helios, and Dionysus as three figures sharing one Godhead (one being twilight, day, and the night or underworld sun). Iirc Artemis also has this with Diana and Selene as well. Even Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon can be considered this and there might have been cults that viewed them as three beings sharing one Godhead, but don’t quote me on that (or any of this really lol).
The celts did this nonstop and it seems like half of their deities were triple divinities. Slavs have this a couple of times as well. There is a couple of examples in Norse mythology. It exists in Egyptian mythology. It’s actually so common to link three beings or persons as one god that early psychology really focused on it. What would Jungian psychology be without it lol.

The Trinity concept originated in the Catholic Church in the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD(300 years after the death of Jesus) and you can read that from their books the Trinity concept was adapted also by the Protestant Churches.

This is a tough one to wrap your mind around. Analogies may fail to entirely be accurate, but it helps people to grasp the concept. I think my favorite right now relates to gardening. The soil you plant seeds into must have dirt, water and air. Without one of these and your garden will fail. But if they have all these the plants will flourish.

This. Anyone who's been in a Fandom of a long running series can tell you that things get complicated with just a few years of writing. Now imagine thousands of years dozens of books and countless war about what is and isn't canon lol.
It is possible, but it isn’t the whole argument. It’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’re not saying that trinity is right cause it’s complicated, Trinity is right because the evidence of this in scripture is abundant and it’s the best explanation of God.
And furthermore, if it was just some propraganda pamphlet we invented, it wouldn’t be so complicated, cause we tend to make simple things if we’re trying to convince people or unrealistic things, while when something is true it can defend its one it doesn’t need to be simplified to be accepted.
But if something is spread throughout the entire world, different cultures and peoples will come to different conclusions and understandings. I think the point he is trying to make is that although people may not agree with whatever church they are near teaches, they still keep their faith rather than casting the idea of god out the window because they know that god exists. That does show that people believe that Christianity is the truth, just taught incorrectly. Which definitely should be taken account when debating the legitimacy of Christianity being the truth. Why would they not give up their faith all together?

One question. As far as I know Orthodox think that the Holy Spirit only really comes from the Father and not really from Jesus. Doesnt that interrupt the "circle" of the Trinity which doesnt make it a Trinity in their pov, or do I misunderstand something?

@@luis7961 A lot of Catechism teachers are untrained men and women, there are ver low requirements to teach at catholic churches because priests are so busy doing other things that you get some grandmas and uncles teaching the trinity with analogies on their free time instead of theologicaly trained people for the simple reason that theology degrees won't teach religion for free (Like, we catechists do). That may be a generalized reason why most catholics don't understand many catholic teachings. Tho it may happen at other churches I suppose.
Now, if you mean why some people in particular have a hard time understanding the trinity I image these are 2 reasons, 1 they are not trained in logic and feel like the Trinity appears to go against the principle of non-contradition. 2 Because they are uncomfortable with their ignorace but are afraid of finding out why.

I like how it was brought out that all Three share the same will and mind (0:47). This helps to balance the usage of the word "person," which, especially in English, is easily misunderstood to be a being with independent mind and will, which does not apply to each of the Trinity. The word "person" shouldn't be pushed to far. Otherwise it will result in tritheism (even if we don't admit it). While sharing the same will and mind, the Three still have personal inter-relatedness. It's beyond human language for sure. But it's not beyond our experience and enjoyment (2 Cor. 13:14)! Praise the Triune God!

@@HE4DSHOT059 That's a good question! Like Peter recognized, the words that Jesus spoke were the words of life, meaning the words were used to convey and impart life. Although human language cannot fully describe the divine things, it can still convey them to us (as @dvinb pointed out). But it requires us to use the right organ to receive and enjoy what is being conveyed to us. It's not enough to try to know God according to our mentality. We need to turn our hearts to Him and call on the Lord, "O Lord Jesus!" to touch Him in our spirit (John 4:24), not our mind.

A minute in and I can tell you that Jesus is NOT all knowing since he doesn’t know when the final hour is and said only the father does. Every time I bring this up Christians say this is because he’s still a man, but how is he God without being all knowing?

Jesus was fully God and fully man, and he was the first example of what a Holy Spirit filled individual was like.
He knew everything, but chose not to have access to it so he would be led by the Spirit at all times. He wanted to have a truly human experience here on earth, and all the things he did was because he, in his flesh, followed after the Spirit.

TWO ANALOGIES TO USE: How to Get it Mostly Right
The first helpful analogy was attributed to St. Gregory of Nazianzus (4th century) and later St. John of Damascus (7th century). The Trinity is like the sun-God the Father is like the sun itself, Jesus is like the light that illuminates the sun and creation, and the Holy Spirit is like the heat from the sun which warms and affects creation. The strength of this illustration is that all three elements are separate and independent elements of one sun. However, it could be said that the light and heat are bi-products or creations from the sun. Even though I recognize the limitations of this illustration, it has proved the most helpful to me personally.
The second helpful analogy was attributed to St. Augustine of Hippo (5th century). He explained that the Trinity is like the mind’s ability to remember, to understand, and to will. Say someone is in a conversation and would like to insert a fact they learned to support their argument. They would first have to have understood the words of the fact, then will themselves to recall the fact, and then actually remember it. When you desire something, you must understand what you are desiring, and you must remember that you are desiring. The strength of this illustration is that the acts are distinct and can never be fully separated from the mind. (Jonathan Edwards (18th century) would later develop this analogy further, explaining that the Trinity is like a person’s personality-the intellect, will, and emotions.)
ONE WORD OF CAUTION
In the end, all analogies, metaphors, and illustrations break down. There is no 1:1 comparison with a triune God. But some analogies are better than others depending on to whom you are speaking. It’s ok and can even be helpful to use analogies to help others better understand that one God exists and expresses himself in three distinct persons. Just remember where and how they break down. Sometimes explaining where analogies fail is just as important as how they succeed.

This made my head spin from all the contradictions. What you're describing is your god is three gods, but is one god. While I thank you for clarifying this issue, this did not really help my understanding as I just have more questions and general confusion.
I’m kind of confused about this. I’ve studied out the trinity vs oneness quiet a bit and there are a couple of things that make me question trinity. For instance Luke1:35 says that the Holy Ghost overshadowed Mary not the father. And Isaiah 9:6 days the Sons name shall be called everlasting Father. So now I’m seeing the son is the father the Holy Ghost is the father and the father is the father. What do you think about this?
There are many more flaws to be mentioned. Its hard to believe in a doctrine never properly expressed.
My best understanding of the Trinity is based on the metaphor of the tetrahedron. It has four sides, representing how the one God reveals himself as God, Father, Son, Spirit. We serve one God. If you hold a tetrahedron in your hand, you hold one object, representing the One God. The distinctiveness of the persons is preserved since the one object has four facets. The distinct facets are also part of the integral whole while yet being separate. If the tetrahedron is made of transparent glass, you can look through one facet and across to see a different facet facing the inside. This explains how Jesus could say to Phillip, if you have seen me (looking through the transparent Jesus facet), you have seen the Father, (the Father facet). A perfect metaphorical illustration of the Trinity can be found in a transparent glass tetrahedron. Easy... God presents himself as each separate facet singly, or as a combination of facets. For example, if you hold the object so you are looking directly down on it, you will see three facets, Father, Son, Spirit. This is how God presents himself at Jesus’ baptism: Jesus in the water, the Father speaking from heaven, and the Holy Spirit descending as a dove, all three present, yet distinct at the same time. Another example is when Jesus was praying the high priestly prayer in the garden. There, the object is turned to show two facets, the Father and the Son. There are fourteen such combinations of facets that reveal God in the scriptures. (P) What about Jehovah of the O.T.? The name Jehovah is so holy that people of New Testament times never used that word. Instead, they used the word, "Lord". These days, Jews will say, "hashem", the "Name", or the "tetragrammaton", or some other substitute word. When a Christian confesses that "Jesus is Lord" at baptism, they are actually saying, "Jesus is Jehovah". Jehovah went through kenosis and came to earth as a helpless baby so he could die on the cross for our salvation.

The problem is that we humans need analogy to comprehend things outside our ability to comprehend. Without it, I don’t think Christianity would have spread in the pagan world as quickly as it did. We Christians subsist on faith and are comforted in the belief that the answers to our questions await us when we pass from this life. In the meantime, thanks very much for this explanation of our central tenet.
The "faith" you are describing is blind faith, which is not scriptural faith. Scriptural faith is one based on evidence. (Heb 11:1) In the scriptures God commands us to
"Keep testing whether you are in the faith; keep proving what you yourselves are". (2 Cor 13:5) If you had done that you would have known that God is not a Trinity.
God, Jesus, the Apostles, and pre-Christian servants of God all made it clear that God is not a Trinity.
(1) Pre-Christian servants - "May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth". (Psm 83:18)
(2) The Apostles - "For even though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” there is actually to us one God, the Father". (1 Cor 8:5,6a)
(3) Jesus - "Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’” (Math 4:10) "Jesus said to her: “go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”. Jesus knew that. That's why He always spoke in parables. And He uses parables/comparisons all throughout the Old and New Testament. Having background knowledge helps us to connect to new information.

When I was 9, I independently arrived at the trinitarian analogy of water. It's partialism, but not bad for a child. You're right about the weakness of analogies, but the best analogy I have would be water at its critical point. The nature of "waterness" that is H2O, the three "persons" of each state of matter, all simultaneously coexisting, in one place and time. As far as analogies go, it doesn't get better than this.

Old testament Judaism is simply Christianity pre-Christ. The natural progression of their beliefs is Christianity. Modern Judaism is anachronistic. Judaism should've died out after their savior came. The only reason it still exists is because they reject the Son ("Whoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father" 1 John 2:23). Modern Judaism is a post-Christian invention wearing the skin of real Judaism.
