Intense is a good description Bryson. These guys have so many great songs. It’s nice that they are getting a lot of attention and recognition from younger people lately. Good choice and reaction.

Such a great song by one of the greatest music groups of all time!! These guys were so ahead of their time, so much of their music is so symphonic and lush. Mega influential group

In September it’ll be 35 years old. The song is still fresh to me. Crazy part is they still sound nearly the same today.
Neil (singing) is 67. And still as cool as can be on stage. Plus sings very close to this recording. To me the song is just timeless. PSB have such a catalogue of songs.

Kings of synth pop. Nobody does it better they always have twists & turns in their production. Plus their lyrics & vocals always have layers & depth.

"Suburbia" is a song by English synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys.
It was remixed and released as the fourth single from the duo's debut studio album, Please (1986), and became the band's second UK top-10 entry, peaking at number 8.
"Suburbia" has drawn comparisons to the theme from ALF, which coincidentally premiered the day that the song was released.
The song's primary inspiration is the 1983 Penelope Spheeris film Suburbia, and its depiction of violence and squalor in the suburbs of Los Angeles; in addition, the tension of the Brixton riots of 1981 and of 1985 hanging in recent memory led Neil Tennant of the duo to thinking about the boredom of suburbia and the underlying tension among disaffected youth that sparked off the riots at the least provocation.
The various versions of the song are punctuated by sounds of suburban violence, riots and smashing glass, as well as snarling dogs on the re-recorded single version (extended even further on the music video), which were derived from typical scenes in suburbia.
The Please version of the song sounds very sparse in comparison.
The version used for the video was the song that appeared on their PopArt compilation album in 2003.

Love Pet Shop Boys, instrumentation and lyrically/vocally, it carries this epitome of retro 80's style music, and absolutely succeeds - oftentimes by way of nostalgia for many of us; especially tracks like *Suburbia.* I really appreciated your reaction/review, on point in terms of possessing pros and cons with almost every aspect regarding where and how we were raised. Keep up your awesome work my friend!

Thanks for for more PSB. As you have no doubt sussed out by now, these are smart guys. There is a level of sophistication to their lyrics that belies the dance beats that often accompanies them. Also some hauntingly beautiful melodies. Check out "Love Come Quickly" (also from this first album). It is shamelessly romantic, and one of my favorites.

The Pet Shop Boys have described this song as an "epic of mad dogs and hooligans" that was inspired by a film of the same name by Penelope Spheeris about aimless, disillusioned young toughs running rampant in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Very much the urbanites, Tennant and Lowe use this track as an opportunity to express what they consider to be "the full horror" (as the subtitle of one of the remixes puts it) of suburban life, where nastiness and evil lurks just beneath a superficially attractive surface.
The dogs mentioned in the lyrics and whose barking frames the track probably symbolize the underlying beastialism of humanity. (One site visitor has pointed out that wild dogs inhabiting the L.A. suburbs play a significant role in the Spheeris film. The opening scene, for instance, depicts a dog mauling a baby. This probably gave Chris and Neil the idea in the first place to use dogs so prominently in the song.).
By the way, the bassline for this track is "virtually the same" as that of Madonna's "Into the Groove."

Love this song thanks for reacting to it! It was a bit of an earworm for me I would be going about my business and all of a sudden I'd sing let's take a ride in suburbia lol😁
Please do it's a sin followed by Elton John,Ollie Alexander's live Brit awards version you won't be disappointed!

Craziest thing about the chorus is that the music sounds almost identical to the theme song for the 80s sitcom ALF, about a funny, furry alien who crash lands on Earth and lives with a family in the suburbs. There's no actual known connection, but the song and the first episode came out on the same day!

Nicely spotted. After comparing the two, I felt there is definitely some influence of one of them over the other. So I did a little digging and found that:
Pet Shop Boys album 'Please' (which included 'Suburbia') was first released on 24 March 1986.
ALF the TV show was first aired on September 22 1986 (half-a-year later). So its composer Alf Clausen likely heard the song 'Suburbia' being played on the radio, in clubs (or perhaps simply owned or listened to the album) right around the time he would have been composing the theme music for the new ALF TV show.
Whether it was intentional or not, I feel it's likely that the newly released album and popular radio-friendly Pet Shop Boys track around at that time, likely had some influence over ALF's theme.

I do too, such a club anthem song of the early 90s. The video was kinda crummy b/c they went so computer graphicy, which didn't hold up well with time.

The video edit is a remix of the album version with more effects and stuff.
I really, really, really think you should react to "Can You Forgive Her?" It's in my top twenty all-time favourite songs. It's from the album Very, released in 1993. That album is also one of my all-time favourites.

    Pancake, re: your observations.
I think the parts you thought were in California. I think you're right, think it's L.A.
As a recommendation for you to review, perhaps Love Etc from their Yes album? Or for a bit of beauty, Miracles ♥️ or Can You Forgive Her? ( For the pointy hats and orange jumpsuits) 🤷🏽
