Can You Forgive Her is one of my favourites. It's desperate, angry, ashamed, fearful, and vengeful at the same time. The fast backing tempomakes me think of galloping horses.
Their music is just so lush and sophisticated!! They were so ahead of their time and they still hold up so well!! I love every song I hear of theirs. They're so symphonic
Love comes quickly is such a haunting melody. I took my daughter to Chicago in 2016 for her 16th birthday to see them in concert we were 3rd row for the stage, the whole night was electric. They played Love comes quickly, hearing it live was euphoric and the highlight of the concert, they also played New York City Boy which was awsome.
Always great songs with Pet Shop Boys. And the music video for "So Hard" exist in Extended Version form. And the extended remix is amazing which is a plus.
Love Comes Quickly was a song from that early era of PSBs... I've always loved the production on it. It was all very soulful and polished. Neil's vocals are sublime. Chris is just trying to look good hehe. Side note - the coat Chris is wearing in the So Hard video... I managed to track down a virtually identical coat and I wore it often looking melancholy just like Chris 😎 I slightly worshipped him lol.
I know Love Comes Quickly is a fan-fav, but it just never took with me. I love So Hard, kinda think Bryson put that in there due to some of my requests.
Had to jump in and mention how criminally under-rated "So Hard" is. As you mention, the I Feel Love sonic power of this song, plus the wit of the lyrics "if you give up your affairs forever, I will give up mine... but it's hard, so hard" and "we've both given up smoking, cause it's fatal... so who's matches are those?" - These gents are brilliant!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude try the Shep Pettibone mix of Love Comes Quickly from their Disco album. Truly epic 💪 Makes my heart ping with delight and my feet start a-shufflin'
Love Comes Quickly - and so do I. oops. Easily in my all time PSB Top 5 favorites. It's shamelessly romantic, which they do not do very often. Love the recreation of Studio 54 in the NYC Boy video. So appropriate because the song recalls the style of classic 70's disco that was played there.
I absolutely stop what I am doing, and watch when you are doing PSB reactions! Love the reactions as much as I love Pet Shop Boys! Thanks again for uploading another gem!
It was so clear in the 80s with massive pop artists who were gay and made music that was secretly for the community as well as the wider audience, like the Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Culture Club, and Wham etc.
Love Comes Quickly was, IIRC, their second single and one of their best. IMO you should also check out Se A Vide E and I Get Along. Two very different but awesomely catchy tunes by them.
Always loved Can you forgive her. The conflicted man, I think he really loves her, but his interests lie elsewhere. So Hard is a great techno-y song, always loved it (and I bet you got the recommendation from me Bryson. So thank you).
This song brings back memories of buying the CD when it came out, and the cover looked like a Lego piece. This song is about a man in a loveless relationship with a woman who belittles him because she has figured out that he's gay, and he''s still very much in denial about it. She pretty much figures out by using gender stereotypes, pointing out things like he favors disco over rock music, or that he isn't very aggressive in the bedroom. He could be a straight person who's kind of gender fluid, though that doesn't seem likely. The album that this was on, "Very", also includes a great cover of The Village People's "Go West", which was about all the gay men who left their homes and families to live in gay communities in San Francisco and Los Angeles, in the 1960s and beyond.
This was an enjoyable 18 minutes! So Hard is one of my PSB faves, but I loved hearing your take on love comes quickly and Neil's voice, I never really thought much of that song but you gave me a new perspective. 😃
You really want to check out their latest release with Soft Cell. It's Soft Cell and The Pet Shop Boys and the song is called Purple Zone. It's funky and it's catchy. I hope you enjoy it.
Pet shop boys are quite simply the greatest music act of all time. I love your observations of all songs sums up why we all fell in love with pet shop boys at the beginning.
Love comes quickly is one of my favourites it's a perfect chill out song 🎵 two of my other favourites is I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing and being boring
I love these videos. I feel like I’m rediscovering them all over again. If you dane to do their b-sides without videos, PSB have some of the best ones. Shameless is a fun song. Or if you delve into their newer albums, Love Etc. is a good one.
Perfect Intelligent Pop music (as always) from the Pet Shop Boys. For more intelligent pop B, try Sophie Ellis-Bextor. I think you will love her. Love from the emerald isle!!
So much depth to their music, which many groups can’t do. ‘Can you forgive her’ is basically a girl finding out that her boyfriends gay and kicking off.
Class talent and music you could easily dance all night to if you had the energy - Pet Shop Boys are a British success story that have been there for decades and thankfully for us are definitely going to be active for many more years to come!
‘So Hard’ is one of my all time PSB favourites! Fun fact the Blonde girl in the video is former England soccer player Paul Gascogne’s sister Cheryl as they’re from the same city as Neil, Newcastle where the video was shot.
Love Comes Quickly is my favourite PSB song. Great music videos, to understand their look/style in New York City Boy you need to check out the video for I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Anymore.
I've been listening to PSB since they formed way back in 1981, and their first hit in '83/'84, when I was 10. Their music has just been a soundtrack to my life, and still going. I can't pick out a single PSB song over another, as I enjoy them all equally.
I believe that "So Hard", as whole album "Behaviour" was produced by Harold Feltermeyer, who also produced Dona Summer's " I feel love". Boys specially came to Munich for Harold's sound, they also loves Donna Summer songs
I'm glad you liked Love Comes Quickly, it's one of my Pet Shop Boys favorites too. I had friends who were dj's in the 80's and they taught me how to mix using turntables. I have the 12" remix and it's incredible. I put it on a lot of mix tapes years ago, when I actually mixed the mix tapes. Love love love PSB. My favorite is It's Alright. The video isn't very good but the extended mix is superb. For your own listening pleasure, I'd suggest you check out the extended mix, the music goes on and on and on and on.

Yes, they acutely aware of the innuendo in “Love Comes Quickly” still one of my absolute favourites. Likewise “So Hard”. You can hear a breathy voice in the background saying “So… HARD…” which they took directly from a porn film.
"New York City Boy" kinda reminded me of the vibe of the 1970s disco group called The Village People, possibly one of the gayest/campiest/funnest acts ever. They had several hits, like "YMCA" (which you've no doubt heard before :-) ), "Macho Man," "In the Navy," and "Go West" (which the Pet Shop Boys later covered in the 1980s).
@@henrywallace7996 ... My bad. I am getting old and my eyes are getting worse. :-) I looked up "Go West" on Wikipedia and misread 1993 for 1983. I need to enlarge my view on my laptop a little more when reading. :-)
I've watched a few of your videos now and I have to say the one thing I've already noticed is how direct you are when pointing out something you've noticed. There is a gay British artist from back at the turn of the 00's called Will Young. He won the 1st or second year of Pop Idol (UK version of American Idol). He was great at capping back at Simon Cowell which probably helped him to win. He had good success over here in the UK and I think you'd like his vibe if you care to check him out 👍

I wish their videos could have been more honest to the sexuality and relationship dynamics at the core of the songs. I honestly feel that they resonate more when listening without the video images. You get a sense of their journey to be honest in their sexuality and be free and open and out of the closet. In addition, the videos gloss over the themes of substance use, alienation and the unfolding hardships like the growing AIDS pandemic that make their songs so compelling to me.
Your Pet Shop Boys montage makes me want to get my PSB albums, yes vinyl, out and play them. Always loved them. They were a different group when they became popular. Yes, smooth. Even NYCB while upbeat is still smooth. Thank you.
