So I've been trying to get the idle figured out in gear. It's taken me over a year to do so and I watch this video one time and learned about the brake trq mgmt. Went straight to it and 0'd it out and it fixed the idle in gear. No more throwing it into second at stops and backing out of the driveway in neutral. I couldn't thank you enough!
Trevor Burke great, I’m glad this video was helpful to you, thanks for watching and commenting. Just to let you know, after I made this video, I found a different solution to the “idle in drive” problem that solves the problem without having to zero out your torque management table. This lets you still keep some torque management active during gear shifts. If you’re interested I have a quick video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/nXv4zrv6ZuU/v-deo.html
@@LowbuckLS if thats the one with the brake trq management thats what I 0'd. And i 0'd the 1st 3 blocks of the trq management to help with surging while turning.
Wow. Someone who explains the why and how. Thanks. Just swapped out my cam in my 5.3 to a sum 8719. Having that bucking at stop and low idle cruising. I Haven’t bought a Hptuner yet but I think tomorrow I will. I hope you can help me with my tuning if I need some, I’m sure I will. Good video
I greatly appreciate these videos as I am about to dive into the summit 8713 cam and figured I would need a tune based on videos of the 8718 cam at idle. Another person had a tune for that 8718 to idle at 900rpm but didn't talk about anything else as in depth as you. So thank you for showing how to tune it too!
I basically have the same 2001 Silverado set up that you are running I used your video to set up the wide band using the EGR circuit 😀having a problem getting a histogram to work for the VE table I can't find a video, showing the set up to log the VE table I have used a lot of your videos in this set thanks for all the help.
i wonder if the torque management was retarding timing because it was initially configured for a low stall speed converter so it doesn't push the vehicle with a higher idle
Found your channel and really like it. I tried to look at your website for the scanner configs and it appears to not be working. I would like to see a more in depth video on setting up scanner configs, saving multiple configs and using filtering if you know how to do that. That seems to be the most important part of tuning and it is always glossed over. Great content! Keep it up!
Rick P. Thanks Rick yes my website is having some issues. I’ll try and get it working but if you send me an email to randy@lowbuckls.com I can email you the files. I’ll also try and do a more detailed video on scanner setup and using filters some time soon.
Man U have done some awesome work truck sounds good!! I just got the 5.3 summit 150-153 engine and hp tuner in desperate need of help installed the motor almost two months ago and I had new injector data put in and it runs but not comfortable with breaking it in like this any advice or anyone I could talk to would be greatly appreciated!
at 23:06 , does that not disable all torque management? obviously that would still fix the idle timing but now you wont have torque management anytime when driving.
Yes that did disable all torque management. I later decided that wasn’t a great idea and put that table back to stock when I discovered I could disable brake torque management which only disables torque management when your foot is on the brake. I explain that in a later video I think.
You will want to find out why the ecm is sensing and looking up the torque management tables before dumping it completely. If it’s just due to the cam, I would update the table accordingly, not completely zero it out.
Good advice, and I did exactly that. A couple of videos after this one, I figured out it was the Brake Torque Management setting that was causing my issue idling in drive. Once I changed that setting I was able to put my torque management tables back to factory. You can see the video I did that in here: ua-cam.com/video/nXv4zrv6ZuU/v-deo.html You’re advice was spot on, thanks for commenting.

Corey Edmonds the torque management is still active under normal driving conditions, it will still pull timing during the shifts to save the transmission, this just disables the torque management when the brake pedal is pressed so it shouldn’t have much effect on the transmission life.

Your audio gets fuzzy because everything is louder in the truck which causes the mic to "clip". Meaning the sound level is too high for the mic to handle so it distorts. If you have the ability, turn down the input, or you can add a compressor to tame the peaks. Not sure what your setup is, but there is a few things you can do to help.
