Hey, LowbuckLS! I am a fellow Canadian/car builder from Ottawa and I've been studying your videos to learn how to tune. I wanted to thank for these awesome videos because you've taught me a lot and I'm almost where I need to be. As you know, winter is closing in fast and i'm running out of warm days to get my beast running. My beast is a 1999 Astro van that's highly-modified and has about 2 feet of lift. I've also blessed it with a 5.3L V8 and an Nv3500 manual transmission. My problem stems from the fact that GM never made this transmission/engine combo and it's almost impossible to find what I need for segment swaps to be done properly. However, I have found the exact tune I need on GearheadEFI and that tune was done by a professional tuning shop that used HPTuners. The customer has paid them, then extracted the .BIN file for sharing, but I've been waiting almost 4 days for my GearheadEFI account to be approved and I haven't heard anything from them. I've tried emailing the admin, I've tried messaging mods for the site - nothing. I'm in desperate need of help pulling the file from their site because I can't download it myself until they manually approve my account... if they ever get around to it. I was wondering if I could pay you to get the file for me? Thanx for your time and consideration, Glen AKA Stunt Dummy
Hi Glen, sounds like an interesting project! Shoot me an email at randy@lowbuckls.com and let me know what file you need and I’ll grab it from Gearhead EFI.
I splurged on the GT and its an amazing tool. With the IPC hammer port of pcm hammer I was able to to change the text that appears on instrument clusters to add another level of customization. For the price they really can't be beat
Great video , like what you do But... Spent the whole day today making a harness and trying to get it read Switched to universal patcher but get the same thing you did trying to get it to read from my obdx pro gt , downloaded the drivers from watching your videos I'll keep trying but nearly over it now
i tried ordering one today but they are sold out in U.S .i got on a waiting list. great video i always learn so much from you because you show every step and not just for me alot of other folks its the only way i can learn it. i have an obdlx .not sure how to get it to work ive tried a couple times do you have a video on that obd lx or no . also do i have to install drivers on the lx like you did with this plz get back when you have time hope all is well
Do you recommend the OBDX Pro GT since it also has GMlan all in one might as well pay extra. Do you know if it will write with LS Droid or PCM Hammer at 4x speed?
Sorry this only works on older Gen 3 LS based engines. For your 2011 Suburban you’ll need to use HP Tuners or some other programmer that is capable of removing DOD.
Trying to avoid hp tuners plagued with problems with people on youtube that have bought it angry with bad customer service and taking away peoples dongles. Many bricked modules or dongles
The next best bet would be the OBDLink LX then. Here is a list of devices that are supported by PCM Hammer: github.com/LegacyNsfw/PcmHacks/wiki/SupportedDevices
I'm not sure what to suggest, I've never used the GT version... do you have it set up as a serial connection? I got a VIN query failure with my VT when I tried to use it in J2534 mode.
you need to reconnect it. The GT has weird connection issues in my experience. To get it to work in my experience disconnect it from all power, including from the obd2 port, I normally just kill power to the bench harness, then remove the usb cord from my computer and plug it back in. Then reinitialize it without exposing it to power from the obd2 port. Also make sure your initializing it as a serial device not a J2534 which I know is confusing.- Once its initialized its fantastic
Is all the software you download safe? I've heard people say it's sketchy for hackers. They said use a laptop that doesn't have important information on it.
It’s tough to put out LS related content when you’re stuck away from home and filming in what’s basically a hotel room. I’ll get back to working on stuff in the garage when I can, but for now I’m doing what I can with what I’ve got just like I always have. And I guarantee a bunch of people will find this video useful so I’m not making any apologies for making or uploading it. My content appeals to a very specific group of people, maybe it’s not for you.
I got my Pro VT about 1 month ago and love it. Great tool for sure
Yep, it’s my new favourite.

Cool, do you know what the differences are between the GT and the VT?
@@LowbuckLS the GT can also do dual wire GMLAN and other gm protocols
@@autumnjeserich2689 nice, I might have to order one to play with once I start working on more Gen 4 stuff
@@autumnjeserich2689no way you said the GT version will be able too ? And I would have have to do what to change the text on the cluster ?

One of the best dongles to use in my opinion
You bet, best bang for the buck out there.
Do you have to remove the PCM to read and write ? Is it possible to do it obd port inside the car?

You're welcome, thanks for watching and commenting!

Hey do you know or and think just a cheap obd2 Bluetooth scanner could work with pcm hammer?
No a regular OBD2 device won’t work, it needs to be one of the devices mentioned on this page: github.com/LegacyNsfw/PcmHacks/wiki/SupportedDevices
Innova 3210RS OBD2 Bluetooth Code Reader Dongle damn guess this one won’t work then
Can't find these in stock anywhere. Any alternatives?

are there any of this one left
Does pcm hammer support ls gen 4 e38 ecu?
Not it only works on Gen 3 stuff as far as I know
Using the gt version of the tool, I keep getting vin querry failure. Any suggestions? Thanks for your content.

@@LowbuckLS Yes, it finds the device, vin fail when trying to read the pcm.
Weird. You might have to contact OBDX Pro for that one, I haven’t had that problem.
