Sadly, we will never see comedians like him again. Thing is, no one was safe, but he truly did love everyone! One of his last appearances with Carson, he did his bit, then came over for the five or ten. Carson asked him if he wasn't getting worried with all this new "political correctness" creeping in. Rickles got serious and what he said was as if he saw into the future, but since he was among those who fought dictatorial governments and saw their destruction to humanity, he knew of which he spoke. Rickles said, "If we ever lose the ability to laugh at each other, laugh at ourselves, we're done as a country." Thank God we still have Chappelle, he's about the only one who can come close to being like Rickles...but look at what he's been put through!

Jamal good to see you back. One of these days you need to react to one of the greatest guitarists - Frank Marino (& Mahogany Rush) some ideas - Strange Dreams Live at Agora Theatre , or It Has Begun To Rain (Agora), or live version of Something Is Coming Our Way or Aint Dead Yet

this is great, especially the segment with Mr. T - he was a big part of my childhood with The A-Team. Damn I loved that character and that show!
And Gary Coleman - what an actor. I loved Different Strokes and he was a huge part of that.

Rickles was so far ahead of his time---A LOT of folks think he was a dinosaur, the end of an era, but, tell me, if you think about it, he was the Most Diverse and Inclusive person ! He included EVERYBODY! And to me, that proves he loved everybody, in his own way

Don Rickles was a comedy legend. Most people felt honored to be insulted by him. Found it bit weird that you didnt get the Las Vegas mafia references aka wise guys. It flourished as a town thanks to mafia. Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky had a lot to do with making Las Vegas the gambling city is it today.

Don Rickles never wrote a word of material. Everything was improvised. And he had a heart of gold.

That’s why Carson loved him and didn’t like Bob Hope at all who relied on cue cards .

The song is La Virgen de la Macarena. Traditional bull/matador song which became Rickles theme. BTW your wallpostings/pictures are placed so neatly - very organized. Nice.

Don Rickles paved the road for today's stand-ups like Chappelle, Chris Rock, Burr, etc. Today's comedians not only does ethnic jokes, but also social issues jokes. Rickles was the OG who taught us it's OK to laugh at each other, with no filter. He's a comedic legend & yes, Rickles would be accepted today. He is tame in comparison to the young comedians of today.

A lot of people still don't understand Rickles. They reply to stuff about some right wing nutbag making a racist comment, then calling it "a joke" and think they can invoke Don Rickles and some comment like "people used to be able to take a joke" or "people didn't used to be so sensitive".
The truth is Rickles was a lifelong Democrat, and very careful with how he presented things. The setup was always that HE was the butt of the joke, not the people he made jokes about. He'd invite the targets of his jokes backstage after a gig to make sure they weren't actually angry. He'd ALWAYS spread the jokes around too and never focus on any group for long. He'd make sure the jokes were cutting, insulting, but never HATEFUL. He'd never suggest a course of action.

Sadly nobody now a days has a sense of humor. They take everything so seriously and get there feelings hurt. Back then you got your feelings hurt if he didn't pick on you, people could laugh at themselves not anymore really really screwed up now!
