Wow, I’ve my Creative memories trimmer for over 8yrs and I never knew about the little foot on the extendable arm. So pleased I watched this. I have also never had to buy a new straight cutting blade in that time but have gone through a few replacement strips where the trimmer cuts. Also didn’t know about the little guides on the trimmer also.

I’m exactly the same. I have loved mine for 8 years and didn’t know about the foot on the extender, or the little guides. I keep forgetting about the blades underneath. I’m also still on the same blade it came with, and I scrap all the time. 😮

I have had the Creative Memories trimmer for several years now. It is hands down the best in my opinion. I love the decorative blades, it also just functions well as a basic trimmer, the blades last a long time. Stampin Up is a good solid trimmer, but if were not into the decorative blades that Creative Memories has than I think the Tim Holtz would be better.

Thanks for all the info on the CM trimmer. I have had it since release and I didn't know about some of those features. I do want to add that the CM trimmer does not cut thick cardstock well - like bazzill which is my go to for scrapbooking...it leaves some frayed edges. Light cardstock is fine though. I know you didn't review it but the WRMK tool the works or trim and score trimers are great for cutting 1/8" easily...line all the way top to bottom for easy measuring. I use that trimmer most of the time when I am making mats.

Julie, I love my CM trimmer, I spent a few years with my old CM one looking at the fiskars that CTMH used as well as other trimmers but it wasn't until CM brought out this one that I finally decided that I could justify updating as money has always been an issue with my decisions. It took me a while to adjust to my new trimmer but there is a site on youtube by CM explaining how to use them correctly. The only thing I really don't like it for is the width of the trimmer as being a card maker it would have been much nicer if it had been at least 6 inches wide. I think I have owned it now for at least 4 years & still haven't had to replace my blade. I am on my second self healing strip. I also love the choice of the other cutting blades & this month they have bought out a new cutting blade that I would like to purchase to add to the few that I already own. Overall, yes I am very happy with my choice of purchase as the replacement blades & strips are not expensive to purchase. Actually, I recently discovered that I had been given a friskars trimmer which I had never unboxed, basically because I didn't look at it properly at the time I was gifted it, assuming it was just a cheap trimmer due to the person who gifted it & so I have now passed it along to my granddaughter assuring her that it isn't a cheap one at all & that she can purchase new blades. 🤣 PS. I never chucked out my wavy trimmers from CM either & a few months ago saw a lady use it to make a unique edging on her page that I loved.

I find that a paper trimmer is such an important investment. I used the Fiskars only because it was available to me but when blades were hard to find I started to shop around. I’m not sure if I’ll get the new SU one but for now I have plenty to work with.

@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone And now today CTMH is offering a trimmer!! As long as you bought yourself at least a dozen or more extra blades, it might be worth trying out as it seems cheap enough. It is a shame they took so long to introduce it!!

I have 3 of the 4 trimmers you showed, and I also have the new Stamping Up one. I use my new SU one for card making, mainly because I can cut to 6” without opening the arm. I use my CM for scrapbooking almost exclusively. I love the blades, the self healing gray strip, the housing for the blade and I think for longer cuts (12”), it’s more accurate in cutting straight. I was also taught a long time ago to push up with a cutting blade if I’m using the ledge at the top of my trimmer to keep my paper square. The SU blade, especially, slides more cleanly, and I’m more likely to cut my paper straight. I had quit using my Fiskars trimmer until I got into making mini albums. Now I use it exclusively for cutting chipboard. One nice thing about the SU trimmer is that it’s the same trimmer as one sold by a couple of other companies, such as Dress My Crafts, so I’ve been able to buy the replacement blades online. Also, in the SU trimmer, both the cutting and scoring blades stay on the track together. You don’t have to remove the scoring blade when you are cutting. Each will just move up or down, out of the way. I love that when I’m making cards!

For a workhorse cutter you cannot beat the the UK British Rotatrim its called Rotatrim pro 12 and blade never need changing they self sharpening it will do everything apart from when you get to the last 1 inch strip it cannot hold it .The American crafters and industry LOVE the Rota trim the size suitable for cardmakers scrapbookers is called a different name for the American market anyone want a cutter for life invest in this one it will cut largere sheets than 12 x 12 ,great for prep work workshop cutting card bases loads of different sized layouts and layer panels and card sizes things superb investment.
Now the best cutter for a Portable wise size portable has to be the Creative Memories in my personal opinion. Just bought mine 2 months it does super cuts very safe strong and thiose stotage blades excellent and a easy replaceable cutting strip.
i bought because i was sick of all my other portables cutters trimmers i owned ,which really are rubbish ,fiskars blades wear out ,Stampin Up I HATE IT ,i t is just as bad a the first style you have demo and used.I cut my finger really deep when i had to change the cutting blade .It really is a Dangerous cutter when changing blades not good for anyone with visually sight impairment the CM the best and safe for sight impaired The SU .It also has a very annoying lift plastic arm you have to hold it low down to open the arm up up a stiff operation if not done correctly .Stampin Up cutter s made by one company which mass produces similar portables with the other cutters which are exact in style shape and function These are Hunkdory purple , Vessen creative white ,new CTMH which is same as rest only different colour . dont like the tonic dont rate the cutterpillar pro neither .
so for me the best investment which is a well designed very safe Portable by Creative memories well worth purchasing for general crafters.

On the Tim Holtz trimmer, if you use the clear rail edge on the right of the blade rail you get the 1/8th cut. Great method to use when you place your photo on a piece of scrap cardstock you can easily cut around your photo and you don’t need a straight edge to start with.

  • @tammyb6497

Great review! I find it strange that the Tim Holtz guillotine trimmers have the 1/8” markings but this trimmer does not. I use eighth inch measurements a lot. I’m quite interested in the Creative Memories trimmer. It looks very sturdy and I like how the measurements on the extension line up with the body. I do like my Fiskars trimmer but I have the one with the guide wire, which doesn’t seem as tight as it used to be, and the cost of replacement blades is getting pretty expensive.
