As someone who had not heard this band until Without a Whisper, I can honestly say this is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. I'm so stunned (and grateful!) that this came out of nowhere for me. Absolute perfection.

Almost 1 year after I'm re watching your reaction and it's awesome. I commented about False Meridian last time. Now I'll talk about how perfect Shade Astray is. It has everything. From crunchy guitarwork, fast paced tempo and drum polyrythmns (it's insane), to the ambience, panning, SUPER CATCHY chorus, tasy breakdown and a banger of a perfect ending.
Shade Astray is outright one of my favorite songs ever, across all genres. I'm seeing these guys open for Northlane on Tuesday and couldn't be more excited to hear that one live again, along with all the stuff from Heavener Definitive. I saw them open for ERRA a couple years back and had never heard anything from them, but this time I'm going in expecting nothing but excellence. Shade Astray, Sleepless Deathbed, and How We Used to Say Goodbye have me totally goobering.

I'm sure I'll need many more listens to fully digest everything they packed into this, but it's banger after banger.
This is one of the most amazing, cohesive, dynamic album I’ve ever heard! Invent Animate is just so good! Also, this was the best reaction I’ve seen I love the way you talk about the music and the drums and Melodies and panning in the headphones because there is so much going on! The deeper you listen to all the layers the more amazing it gets!

Listened three times this morning and I have to say I found myself laugh out loud as well at some parts because of the sheer brilliance. Truly an amazing album and an amazing band. Their vocalist Marcus has really taken his vocal throne on this one! It does hurt a bit that you don't like their name, I actually find it quite unique. IIRC it was in relation to their music in general. Inventing it, and bringing it to life. Nothing too original about the concept but it just fits their music like a glove, in my opinion 😊
The progression I’ve seen this band go through is insane. I loved Ben but Marcus brings such emotion to the band I fucking love it. (Edit- I’m really glad I found someone who reacts the same way as I did first time hearing this album, I thought something was wrong with me bawling my eyes out)

Elements of thall are now being used everywhere, even Invent Animate do this - for example on their song 'False Meridian' these neverending and over the top bends in the beginning are what I'd consider thall.
Not only is this album amazing, these guys are also fucking phenomenal live. That’s a huge dub considering many technical metalcore bands honestly struggle with giving an “energy” filled live show but these guys somehow do it. When I saw them live for the first time I was blown away with how good they were (when they played Monarch it was like being at my first show shit was gorgeous). Vocals were fully consistent and the band never missed any notes and was jumping around like a djent band from 2013. The moment the show was over out of all of the openers I immediately went through IA’s catalogue and fell in love, I was so angry I didn’t know a lot of their material before the show lmaooo
Dude, I've been listening since Everchanger and I sincerely had my doubts if they'd ever be able to be good again after the old vocalist Ben left. They have blown me away release after release, one of the best bands out there in general, not just in their respective genre.

I planned to take the time tonight to sit and listen to this entire album for the first time. I knew I was getting into something that required my full attention. I’m glad you were there Steve to make this listening experience even more enjoyable. 😊 This album is a genre on its own. HOW is it possible to combine submachine gun pounding sounds with soft ethereal melodies? Violent grace?!? So far, 2023 is proving to be the year of rejuvenation in music. I’m seriously getting whiplash from trying to keep up with all the switching of styles and changes in song structure! Your reaction sums it all up (especially during « False Meridian »). You almost have to laugh when you listen carefully to the level of musicianship. It’s absolutely insane. I’m absolutely ecstatic whenever you stumble upon something like this. Prog metal group Octavision with the song "Three Lives" from the album: "Coexist" with, among others, Victor Woten on bass. Among the best I've heard in a long time. Note, no singing. Their other songs contain vocals though.

I can’t tell if this is a genuine comment or sarcasm 😅 What I noticed in the moment is that they varied the production effects on the drums quite regularly through the album depending on the section. At times, like here, it was quite subtle but definitely immediately different. Lower level of attack and yet quite precise. I can’t recall if I remembered to recap that point at the end in the review section or not. There was so much to take in on the first go around. Edit: I was looking at the wrong timestamp for my above reply. But yea, in the actual timestamp you referenced: the low guitar tones complimenting the delicate vocals and cleaner lead parts is everything to me for what makes this viscerally brilliant as a sound.

What’s your usual flavour of rock / metal music? That may be informing your response to it somewhat. But also, ultimately it’s subjective. It’s perfectly ok not to dig something that other people see value in ✅
@@SteveOGRock definitely, you tell they have put there heart and soul into each track theres little nuisance that you seem to pick up on each listen. Little guitar licks in back ground, drum fills here there scattered in back. It’s busy but doesn’t seems overwhelming.
My first listen, I loved it. Subsequent listens I find myself distracted by all of the spacey/echo vocals scattered throughout on virtually every single song. Not sure why they did that but it’s distracting. Similar to when you hear someone overuse filler words (such as “like”) when they speak, it’s all you hone in on. I find I can’t appreciate the songs as much, until I can reconcile this vocal effect across the whole album.
True that production choice is used throughout the record, but maybe it’s a “you love it or you hate it” kind of thing. I really love it. Perhaps that’s also where the record’s cohesive atmospheric sound comes from. That choice threading through it all.
It's great, but imagine if the vocalist sounded like the vocalist from Kardashev? Admittedly, the vocals have grown on me, but it's a crying shame they sound so mainstream-y... the dude is super talented and has lots of techniques down, I just don't feel any connection with his sound. And in saying that, I wonder if an instrumental mix of this album might someday be a possibility (bands like Distant, Viscera, Deathbringer and Reflections all happily did this). I'd also pay good money for Kardashev to give this album the same 33 1/3 simulation dream treatment they gave to their albums. ❤

This album was absolutely magnificent. I know it's too early too call, but its album of the year for me. Not since Architects dropped AOGHAU has an album had such an emotional impact on me. I didn't even understand most of the lyrics on first listen, but the instrumentals and atmosphere just oozed emotion

Shade Astray was the first song I ever heard from them. Came out end of last year. I went down the rabbit hole with Invent Animate and pre-ordered this album when it was announced. When Without a Whisper came out 2 days before the album came out, I was shocked; I must've listened to it 36 times until the full album was released. I knew this would be a special album. Purity Weeps left me slack jawed. Amazing song. Amazing album.

This one for me is definitely neck and neck with Take Me Back to Eden
For me, Sleep Token pips it, but goddamn this IA album was on another level to most. So good. Definitely will stand the test of time.

I can’t tell if this is a genuine comment or sarcasm 😅 What I noticed in the moment is that they varied the production effects on the drums quite regularly through the album depending on the section. At times, like here, it was quite subtle but definitely immediately different. Lower level of attack and yet quite precise. I can’t recall if I remembered to recap that point at the end in the review section or not. There was so much to take in on the first go around.
Edit: I was looking at the wrong timestamp for my above reply. But yea, in the actual timestamp you referenced: the low guitar tones complimenting the delicate vocals and cleaner lead parts is everything to me for what makes this viscerally brilliant as a sound.

what's great about this is the singles are not best songs there good but holy shit all of them are just brilliant.
Yeah I have moments during each song on relistening when I could make a case for each of them as best song on the album. It’s all gold.
@@SteveOGRock definitely, you tell they have put there heart and soul into each track theres little nuisance that you seem to pick up on each listen. Little guitar licks in back ground, drum fills here there scattered in back. It’s busy but doesn’t seems overwhelming.

Album of the year
My first listen, I loved it. Subsequent listens I find myself distracted by all of the spacey/echo vocals scattered throughout on virtually every single song. Not sure why they did that but it’s distracting.
Similar to when you hear someone overuse filler words (such as “like”) when they speak, it’s all you hone in on. I find I can’t appreciate the songs as much, until I can reconcile this vocal effect across the whole album.
True that production choice is used throughout the record, but maybe it’s a “you love it or you hate it” kind of thing. I really love it. Perhaps that’s also where the record’s cohesive atmospheric sound comes from. That choice threading through it all.

It's great, but imagine if the vocalist sounded like the vocalist from Kardashev? Admittedly, the vocals have grown on me, but it's a crying shame they sound so mainstream-y... the dude is super talented and has lots of techniques down, I just don't feel any connection with his sound. And in saying that, I wonder if an instrumental mix of this album might someday be a possibility (bands like Distant, Viscera, Deathbringer and Reflections all happily did this). I'd also pay good money for Kardashev to give this album the same 33 1/3 simulation dream treatment they gave to their albums. ❤

This album was absolutely magnificent. I know it's too early too call, but its album of the year for me. Not since Architects dropped AOGHAU has an album had such an emotional impact on me. I didn't even understand most of the lyrics on first listen, but the instrumentals and atmosphere just oozed emotion
100%. I paid nearly zero attention to the lyrics. For me the music alone generated emotional reactions. That’s quite incredible.

Actually Trey Celaya did the drums for the album. He is not a touring member of Invent Animate anymore but stays a studio member.
Invent has been my girlfriends favorite since Stillworld. This album is an amazing evolution of sound. Would definitely be interested in your thoughts on Stillworld and Greyview.

Shade Astray was the first song I ever heard from them. Came out end of last year. I went down the rabbit hole with Invent Animate and pre-ordered this album when it was announced. When Without a Whisper came out 2 days before the album came out, I was shocked; I must've listened to it 36 times until the full album was released. I knew this would be a special album. Purity Weeps left me slack jawed. Amazing song. Amazing album.
