I’m having sooo much fun watching you get a piece of your missed childhood in becoming a fan of the Beasties. I feel like everyone should have grown up knowing their music. The huge constant smile on your face during their songs speaks volumes. Next up?? ANY SONG! These guys don’t have a bad song in their discography.
Check Your Head is my fave Beasties album. Yup, they played instruments - it’s a nice blend of hardcore punk roots, hip hop and funk. Glad you liked it!
After hearing you talk at the end I think it’s worth telling you that this is the album where they started playing their own instruments again. They still obviously use a lot of samples and some other musicians but they do a lot of genre hopping and instrumental music from this album onwards, and their punk/hardcore roots never really goes away.
They were really do it yourself as in they produce the beats, they make the videos, for the most part they did everything on their own with a little help from friends. Always blazing their own trail. They have so many good songs I don't even know what to recommend. Loving your reactions. Subscribing.
Even better than having real instruments is they actually play multiple instruments each. The drums is Mike D (Michael Diamond), the guitar is Ad Roc (Adam Horowitz), the bass is MCA (Adam Yauch rip). They were a legit band that came from punk roots and added hip hop and an insane talent for laying in samples.

Saw the Beasties play in 1994 (with a little known at the time Questlove and The Roots opening) and again in 1999 (with a well known A Tribe Called Quest opening). Excellent, excellent all-around.
Was hoping to offer up a suggestion if I can. Burke Shelley the creator of the band Budgie past two days ago and I was hoping you could try one of their classics. Along with Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and others of the early 70's, Budgie was one of those heavy/hard rock bands that many upcoming heavy metal groups looked to for inspiration. Metallic just one, was highly influenced by Budgie as was Geddy Lee of Rush. If you could try one of their classics like Breadfan, Zoom Club, or my personal favorite Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman. Progressive and oh so heavy in riffing and fills. Thanks. Goodbye Burke Shelley, thanks for all the GREAT heavy rock albums of the 70's that you filled my speakers and head with. Rock.
Nice selection, and breakdown! Classic, from the Check Your Head LP, 1992. Probably my fav Beastie track. Mix Master Mike (DJ) didn't come in 'till later on the Hello Nasty LP, but he was amazing. DJ Hurricane worked on their earlier stuff. RIP - Adam "MCA" Yauch 🙏 Left us much too early
Their videos are killer. Camera on the ground is a theme. I grew up without MTV (Baptist Cable TV company refused to carry it), so I'm not up on these videos as well as I am the songs.
just caught this vid, bro, dont wanna make you sour on them, but the organ is 100percent a demo track from a very old yamaha qy 70!!!!!! STILL FIRE THO!!!!!
Just wanted to say thank you for not pausing the video and saving your thoughts until it was over, unlike literally every other channel. Like, yeah, people can do what they want with their reactions, but I just find it so irksome.
Fyi, your audio levels are all over the place. It's probably because it looks like you're using your mic as a side address and that looks like it's an end address mic, so it should point at you. I'd say check out intergalactic to see the kind of range they have, but do yourself a favor, and don't react to the "Paul's boutique" album, just listen to the whole thing for yourself. It's considered one of the most influential albums in music, and you should do yourself the favor of experiencing it as an album.
YES!!!!! More BEASTIE BOYS
Sure shot
Root down
Pass the mic
Intergalactic
High plains drifter
Thank youuuuuuu ❤
Yep👌
Eggman and lookin down the barrel of a gun
The Beasties Boys played the drums, guitar and bass on this song. Mike D on drums. MCA on bass. and Ad-Rock on guitar.
You also got Money Mark on the keys..
They play their own instruments and are covering a song by South Side Movement called "Ive been watching you" originally recorded in 1975.
They were a hardcore band before they started rapping and got into hip-hop.
3 MCs and 1 DJ is a must by these guys. Check out the official video..
I second this.
