    She does freestyle lock because of political reasons like wanting to get away from eurocentric standards, but.... our ancestors used intricate design in their hair all the time? It's not eurocentric at all?
    They could differentiate the status of everyone by the design in the hair, so clearly it's not because of the white men that we desire long and well groomed hair, it seems to be just human nature

      Right, all women's glory is their hair and it is mature that it is desired for all women or by most women. It is proven fact that al races have women that can grow it. Not every single woman in existence of every race can necessarily grow extra long hair, unless she takes the necessary precautions and care. What I meant is, not all white women have long flowing hair, I knew a few who personally couldn't grow the hair past their kneck.

      Narrow noses aren't necessarily eurocentric. I'm Kenyan, born and raised in Kenya. And I can tell you East Africans have small, narrow noses. As an African, I don't understand featurism because all features are found in Africa. These women don't realize that they are hating on African features. We can literally straighten our hair i.e silk presses which looks like YT hair or indian hair etc. BUT NO OTHER RACE CAN MIMIC OUR HAIR. We are so unique. Our hair is so unique. The only ones I've ever seen actually struggle are women who get perms. Women who wear braids, natural, locs all grow their hair quick asf. What kills me is when they say this about weight also. I agree. The two concepts are intrinsically linked and she references feminity in that video. Mayowa says she was treated more poorly, she was MASCULINIZED when her kinky hair was short. That's the problem, kinky hair becomes more acceptable when it is longer. I don't think loose-textured white women are fighting the feminity battle as hard if they choose to rock a pixie cut.

      @@rainey53Loose-textured ww are not fighting the feminity battle as hard because their male counterparts promoted pixie cut hair as feminine. Even the term pixie haircut is a feminine term, since they barely advertise pixies being male in cartoons and whatnot. So that has more to do with how the men promote women of certain hairstyles. And a lot women, even nonbw, look like men even with a loose-textured pixie hair length because most women can’t pull off that hair length because it accentuates the jaw and gives a more masculine look. However, if any woman’s hair is shorter than a pixie cut, like a buzz cut or bald, normally it makes them look manly. Plus, very few nonbw going out of their way to shave their head as a hairstyle anyway. Only few women in general can pull off the shaved/ bald look and still look feminine.

    • @rainey53
      @rainey53 7 місяців тому +4

      @@jennywakeman3267 All women are fighting the patriarchy. We are held to a narrow scope of what is acceptably feminine. Even the fact that society has us concerned about being “feminine enough” is the problem in a nutshell. Because if we are women, aren’t we feminine by default? Society has us believing that we have to perform femininity as opposed to just being. But I digress, my main point is while all women are up against this feminity struggle, black women experience it MORE bc the features and hair that are natural to us are not included in what society deems “traditionally feminine.” Length is one way for kinky haired girlies to feel included in the feminity dialogue. I say, go off sis, rock your long natural hair. I do! I have waist length locs buuuuut, I’m also aware of the gender politics at play. That awareness helps me go easy on myself and know that this game is bigger than me.

I prefer keeping it stretched even if I'm stretching it with no heat. Tbh I think its a lot of gaslighting that takes place when discussing bw with 4c hair, bc some bw that don't take care of their hair want to see all bw that have 4c hair look a mess. I understand both points of view. Neither is incorrect. I think what Mayowa was getting at is that, we should embrace our hair at any length. There are lots of black women whose hair naturally is thinand doesnt grow too long. And that look is to be embraced as well. Because as black women, we dont need long hair to be beautiful. We can look good at any lenght. But other groups of people might feel that unless they have long hair, they cannot be beautiful.
