Davao, Philippines - Cost of Living 2020

- Опубліковано 6 лип 2024
- Davao City is considered to be one of the most livable and safest cities in the Philippines with many great options for living. It offers many of the amenities that you would expect from a large city and it is centrally located making it a great place to base out of for traveling around the Philippines.
$800 - $1,600 per month is comfortable. Most nomads and ex-pats I know live within this range.
$1,800+ per month and you can live quite nicely.
Coming up will show you what these budgets look like in Davao City and its suburbs.
Accommodations in Davao
The cost of living in Davao will vary considerably depending on your own level of comfort and convenience.
Many foreigners choose to live close to one of the major malls. The larger malls will have many restaurants as well as a grocery store and tend to be a hub for transportation. Davao is a very large and spread out city so there are many suburban options as well, such as mountain living and gated communities.
Within the city, $250 USD per month will get you a simple studio apartment.
$450 per month will get you a simple, furnished studio in a good area near a mall.
$600 USD per month will get you an apartment in a nice building in the city center or a home in a gated community outside of the city center.
This 3-bedroom house is by the beach in a gated community and rents for $1,000 USD per month. The neighborhood has a private beach, tennis courts, and two swimming pools. Here’s another house for rent in the same community and it rents for $400 USD per month.
Monthly Overheads
Basic (Electricity, Heating, Cooling, Water, Garbage) $140. within the city center. However, outside of the city center, utilities may be way less, even as low as $40 per month.
Internet / cable $46.
Smartphone service will be another $20.
High-end Fitness Club, Monthly Fee for 1 Adult $40.
Food Costs n Davao
if you are a bargain shopper, dine mostly at home and stick to Filipino food brands, as well as local fruits and vegetables, it is possible to spend as little as $200 per month on your food.
Shopping at the local, open-air markets will help you save money. If you shop at the supermarkets located at the malls, you can expect to pay more. Imported items are usually more than what you would expect to pay in your home country.
#Davao #Philipines #Retirement #CostOfLiving
There are many options for eating out. A meal at an inexpensive, local restaurant is about $3 USD. A meal at a nice, western-style restaurant with an entrée, salad, and a drink will start at about $8. A Filipino beer at a restaurant will be a little over a dollar. A medium cappuccino at a coffee shop will cost about $2.60.
I eat most of my meals at local restaurants. A large tuna fillet with rice, vegetables, and beer was only $4.50.
Getting Around Davao
Jeepneys are the cheapest mode of transportation. Vans and buses are also available on main routes. Metered taxis are reasonable and efficient.
Travel from Davao
Davao’s airport is easy to get in and out of and has many connections around the country as well as some international connections. There’s a lot of nature close by like Mount Apo, the country’s highest peak. There are also great beaches and resorts to escape to. Samal Island is only a short ferry ride away and the popular vacation destination town of Mati is only about 3 hours away by car or van.

WoW! Talk about doing a 180. Now in our retirement years, comfort and convenience is exactly what we are striving for. We must have viewed this video 5 times, each time learning a little more about Davao. Brother just moved to the Philippines. Let it suffice to say he's having his problems as his living conditions simply is not what we are looking for. And after viewing other videos explaining the cost of living in various areas, Davao looks good enough to pay a visit for a month or so. Excellent job on this video, it has really opened our eyes that were wide shut in the past.

Excellent job with all the details. I was born and raised in Davao City, but currently I am living in California, USA. I am still considering retiring there someday as I find living there more relaxing. Considering you have almost all the wonderful options to go to, such as the mountains and beaches. I am always inlove with my home town. God bless you sir.
I bought a house just outside toril and it's even cheaper there but investing in land in the Davao region is a very smart idea right now.

I've always wanted a dream 2-storey residential-spakol township in Davao. The food's cheap and delicious, and the surrounding nature does give a peace of mind.

For foriegners it’s easy for them , seems cheaper but for us locals is not affordable,, but thanks for this vedio❤️❤️❤️
Even though I live here, I still like to see how others live. I think the Phils is still a good bang for your buck.
Wow I love davao city
Davao is what it is because of long-term effective governance. It can be a little over the top sometimes, but you can easily see the alternative in other cities of the Philippines. The difference is discipline. I think Davao City is still the only place in the Philippines where you can call 911 in an emergency. And you won't be charged for fire, ambulance or rescue. It's totally free.
Sir Gregory, Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your information.
Drug addicts get narcan from 911
@@vonderloo3184 Is narcan the drug for treating opioid overdose?
@@SirGregory yeah I was kidding, since the death squads worked so well.
@@vonderloo3184 Yes, anyone living outside Mindanao talks about the death squads. I've been visiting Davao City since 1996, on average about once per year. I even met then-Mayor Duterte. It was perhaps my first visit, and in those days he was always accompanied by several bodyguards. Not any more of course. These days I feel as safe in Mindanao as I do in Sydney where I live. Davao was the first Filipino city to ban fireworks entirely, and smoking in public places. Streets are spotless and roads are busy but drivers follow the rules. Taxi drivers are amazing. They are reluctant to accept tips. Can't wait to get back. Maybe January. Cheers, Greg.
Very well said...
