On-call pay AND a company phone. My personal phone/computer is mine and company stuff doesn’t need to be on it.
☝ agreed.
I know that's right!
so agree
Classic salary positions: get paid for 8 hours, get controlled by management for 24 hours.
Boss: "We really, really appreciate when our team members have access to their work emails, because we get requests in 24/7, and we want to he able to be there for our clients."
Employee: "I really, really appreciate feeding my kids, bathing them, and putting them to bed without being interrupted."
And now you understand the real difference between hourly employees who clock in and out versus salaried employees who don't.
even salaried workers have contracted hours in which to work beyond that is their time
I'm a salaried employee, and the pay is high enough that i will check emails and take phone calls after hours. But you do have to establish boundaries. Very important
I'm a salaried employee and I can garanty you that you won't be able to reach me out of my contract hours unless it was established first that I would be available and that I would be compensated in an official written document.
I'm not doing charity at work, I work to pay the bills.
Charity is reserved for out of work hours and not work related business, sorry.
Veronica is the best 😂
I love Veronica ❤ Don't play with my money and time.
Unless they are paying me to be on call 24/7 and either with a phone or paying my phone bill, then fine
Paying for a phone is not nearly enough compensation for this. Only salaried employees should be asked to do this.
Good on her. DON"T work off the clock.
This is totally true with the railroad- they own you if you’re on the extra board. Especially how upper management tries to manipulate its employees particularly in the railroad industry. Of course they fill your pockets filled with money (tons of it) but you become sleep-deprived and get burnt out quickly, but again, they toss you more money but at the end of the day if an accident occurs or something goes horribly wrong you will be prosecuted and it’s extremely harsh! I know folks who lost marriages, family, homes, and their lives. in the end it’s not worth it because you only live once and if you’re not careful you can lose your life, and sleep deprivation causes major health issues it’s very unforgiving on the RR.
I actually had my boss call me while I was on vacation in another country and ask me to come in to work. I told him that I am 2000 miles away and no I can’t. 🤣 He then asked if I could just catch a flight and come in and I swiftly told him “sure right after you pay for my plane tickets”. which was a joke. I know his cheap @ss isn’t about to pay a minimum wage employee to fly out to cover a shift. 🤣 He grumbled something under his breath and hung up. LOL
The nerve of him🤨🙄
The audacity of that boss. Unbelievable. 😂
He needed to go in and do the covering himself!
We are just cattle.
I would've played it off like, "omg of course I will cancel my vacation to cover a shift. Let me start packing real quick. I'll see you tomorrow." Then send a text message at 12am "Sorry there were no flights" 😂😂😂
I agree!
😂😂😂😂 agree
It's weird - every time I watch one of these, I say, "Wow."
i follow with, dont know what to say
Well spoken.
I totally agree that when she says about company should be paying her when she is not on the clock. However companies should not expect employees to be available 24/7 this is why they have their 8-hour shift that's something they need to control out of respect for the employee this is the reason why so many people get burned out and shouldn't be using us as puppets
I was an adjunct teaching 1 class, 2 days a week, at a for profit college. My boss got a complaint from a student who said she "never heard from me," and rather than verify it, the boss asked me why I didn't reply to the student.
"I didnt see the email," I said.
"Why not?"
" I check it on the days I work."
She flipped the fuck out. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I thought I could check my email each day that week.
Nothing came in. When the semester ended, and she was hostile to me through the end, I was done.
Adjunct faculty are the mules of the university. They are worked to death and get no respect. I'm sorry that you had to put up with that.
It wasn’t in your adjunct contract how quickly you have to respond to emails? My adjunct contract states I have to respond to student emails within 48 hours. I sign the contract so I’m agreeing to that.
Nope not happening on my PERSONAL PHONE...you don't have access to me 24/7 only Tues-Fri 8:30-4:30...I did what she did...I OPTED OUT!
Facts
She's right. If I CHOOSE to check my email on my own time, that's on me. But, no one should EXPECT me to do so. Also, I've been asked to do a lot on my personal phone. I usually refuse because if they want me to use a phone for my work, they should give me a phone and pay the bill. I used to pay for each text I got and I had a boss text me all the time despite telling her not to.
Just set your email to only accept emails during working hours. When you do this the person attempting to send the email gets a popup notice that their email will be sent during recipients next working hours.
Like many Europeans I'm flabbergasted by US "work culture". Asking to work (without pay) or worst be disponible outside working hours is an illegal practice. Btw the productivity and working time ratio of Americans is not very high compared to that of Europeans.
Boy do I feel stupid now after letting my former employer have access to me all the time and all the extra hours. One time I was there from 8 am to 2 am and was nearly too exhausted to drive home, a 40 minute commute in the middle of the night. I cried all the way home. My husband insisted I quit. It wasn’t worth it.
Yes Veronica Preach!!!! 👐😅
_Where_ can I watch these as _full_ videos? Everywhere I find them they're truncated and cut off when they really start getting good...
Order up, movin on
I sure hope the nuero surgeon at the level 1 trauma center is on call if I happen to need one.
This was Daja Vu I have had this exact conversation with my boss. I have all the apps on my phone which is to many, but I don't check them after I clock out since I am not paid enough to care after I clock out.
Damned straight!!
Never. Ever. Work. For. Free.
Have a company phone; it’s shut off from Friday after work, turned on Sunday midnight
your workday pay starts at sunday midnight? interesting
at least they dont have you On Call but Unpaid
that would be stupid
@@FractalPrism. I turn it on Sunday night as an additional alarm clock for Monday morning 😀
The expression "if that makes sence" drives me nuts.I would love to say if I were the employee."Hell no!That makes no F-ing sense
I agree with Veronica ☺️
😮 mmmm...
Oh Ive seen this one! The Army pulls this shit too. Text at 1149 at night "We need everyone ready on the PT field by 0400 instead of our usual 0600." Aaaaaand then they're mad that Im still loving my sleep at 430 in the morning cause I went to bed at 10 *finger guns*
