- Just a quaint summer home for the Vanderbilt family, The Biltmore Estate and its grounds are as stunning from the air as they are from the ground. Still the largest private estate in the U.S., this masterpiece took 6 years to build.

This house is mind blowing in person. The interior carpentry , which was done by hand makes most finish
carpenters today look like amateurs . It’s really worth a visit if you have the means and time.
@StrnFn9099 it is spectacular , but the price of a ticket today is
ludicrous . $94 dollars for one person . 😳
When i went many years ago it was $35 and the tour was rather restrictive .
i was interested in the top floor maids and butlers quarters and other obscure areas of the home that show how the staff lived . i tried to go up and the guards flipped out . rightly so i suppose but their attitude was very
condescending and sarcastic . The website gives the impression that you can roam around at will but that's a bit of a stretch.
carpentry in 1920s is not what today they do i have 100 year old furniture in my house
@@siriosstar4789 to see special areas take the behind the scene tours. A bit extra but not that much when I went. I've taken every behind the scenes tour they offered when I had my annual pass.
I've been there 3-4 times with my family! And it is totally worth it everytime
@@siriosstar4789 yeah especially at $94 a person and they don't let you take pictures inside
I’ve camped and hiked in Pisgah National Forrest. It’s a beautiful area, I’m glad the Vanderbilts and the Federal Government preserved it.
For Real?, do you have any idea how much ecological damage the vanderbilts have caused over the decades
@@bargdaffy1535 having been built during a time where conservation was barely a concept, some is better than none.
I toured the home no words.can discribe this beautifual home isaw it myself breath taking pluss eight acres surrunding the main house. A visit that ill always remembe
Home. I get see Cold Mountain everyday
@@bargdaffy1535 No they didnt. They Did a whole bunch of good stuff. Jobs, industrialization, charity.
People like this are the reason America became a world leader.
Nothing but good came from the Vanderbilts, the Carnegies & Rockefellers. If v can go back to that model of pure capitalism things would be so amazing.
The marxists can move to Venezuela or East Europe.
I have been twice and will go again. I only live about 60 miles away. When the Vanderbilts started building this home it added many jobs to the area. Today descendents of the Vanderbilts own and run the estate. They have a wonderful winery as well. Christmas time is truly amazing. Worth the admission and trip.
Can you stay there overnight?
I went there years ago, put this on your bucket list, you will be blown away
Well worth the trip
That a railroad tycoon that got rich off of cheap immigrant labor was able to amass a fortune and build a mansion with 30+ bathroom? Lol. That's idiotic...no "family" needs 30+ bathrooms in a house. I'd very well rather fallow and read about Mackenzie Scott...Jeff Bezos ex wife. 15th richest person I'm the world and worlds richest woman. 100% pure philanthropist. Donates BILLIONS every year to important causes. She has said she has more money than anyone should ever have and vowed to pass away with nothing. THAT is a person od put on my bucket list to meet.
I'm debating whether I should go or not. I live in asheville but have never been.
@@VoltedSoldier it's their money, they are entitled to do what they want with it
@@jonr2192 the main tour is self guided, we also took a behind the scenes tour, that was very interesting. Don't go during the hot summer, it isn't air conditioned. It has air cooling, but it gets a little warm.
We were there a year ago, it was breath taking! The ground full of flowers and greenery. A must see
I highly advise to not let the ticket price deter anyone. This place is remarkable.
Ditto.
Bee Man how much is it, do you still remember?
yeah pay money to see how the rich live
An annual pass is the way to go, if you live nearby enough to take advantage of it. One year's admission for less than the price of four individual day passes.
Prices as of Nov 2020 were $94 a person. Tickets are timed to prevent early entry, believe they are using quarter-hour increments, e.g. 12 noon, 12:15, 1:45, etc
Have been to Ashville, have seen the Biltmore several times, if ever you get the chance to go, it's worth it, UNBELIEVABLE , there was also a pool inside, would love to go back again, but have too many medical problems, they also have vineyards, can try different wines, there's a lot more I want to say, once again awesome in MANY WAYS
christel bruyneel
It really is, I wish the pool was filled up though. It was so big
Planet Saturn, that would be neat, but can you only imagine how difficult it would be to clean? Plus all the crazy people that would try to jump in. That’d be a lawsuit if someone was “injured”. Lol
@@carljohnson6212 - they filled and drained the pool after each use. They didn’t have filtration systems the tour told us. They don’t use it today, it leaks.
They charge $69 a person now.
Only been there.once but.well worth it.will never forget it wonderful highlite of my life love history and theirs is.unbelieveable thanks Biltmore family
Grew up in Rhode Island so have seen their family’s “summer cottages” in Newport many times, took my family to Asheville Christmas 2019 right before the pandemic and we visited the Estate it was incredible, if I remember correctly a proper tour takes over three hours.
I'm temporarily in Newport. The mansions here are amazing.
I go to the Biltmore House every day 😀, im a Uber Driver 😆
Is it as impressive as the depiction in this video?
@Angel Bulldog ok cool thank you for sharing your experience with me. 🙂
Doctor DL
Yes I went here on a field trip it’s the most prettiest house
LUCKY
💘
Such a beautiful estate. One of my favorite American castles.
Biltmore is crazy, it's huge and beautiful at the same time
One of the only things I'm utterly obsessed with that America has produced is The Vanderbilt Family! Have been for years! There was so much more this clip could have told everyone about Biltmore! George even created a town to house all the workers and their families near the estate.
Oh such fond memories of riding horses on the Biltmore Estate during my teenage years (1969-1973). Raised all my life in Buncombe county
I live in Asheville. My partner and I were gifted season passes for Christmas this year. We are looking forward to exploring the home and grounds. Looking forward to the beautiful gardens this Spring.
I didn't realize the level of forest conservation he did in the area, but that's rad. Hats off! Been there twice and lived right on the edge of the Pisgah for a moment. Also have always thought that house would be great to play hide and seek in.
I visited the Biltmore for my birthday and I loved it :)
Going to visit for my birthday as well, this Tuesday April 27th!!
This is the COOLEST place my wife and I have visited in the USA, during the 4 years we lived in Charlotte from 1986 to 1990! 💖 I would buy it for her, except it would be too much of a challenge for the two of us to keep clean! 😂🤣
😂😂😂 You're funny!
I love trees and castles!
Maybe someday, I will
be lucky enough to visit
this place and other places.
Please do. I drove by it on the Interstate for decades traveling to my Grandmother's house. I always told myself that I didn't have time. I finally stopped around 5 years ago. We spent the day there. It was almost breathtaking for me. I would love to go back to see the Christmas decorations.
I have stayed two different times. Both weeks were week before Christmas. It was really amazing. It costs a pretty penny, but they cater to your every whim. The formal dining room was excellent. We had the executive package and loved every second of our stay. George Vanderbilt was way ahead of his time.
This place is unbelievable! I live near here and I have visited it many times. It is the most remarkable house you have ever seen! I definitely recommend.
I live in Asheville, and been to the Biltmore House numerous times in my life. It is def a tourist attraction. If u ever visit here in Asheville, it is one of the most beautiful places to visit. Not just the Biltmore House but all of Biltmore. Hope u all enjoy our beautiful mountains!!!
Man! built by a 26 year old man. I'm 28 and still cant even afford to buy myself a decent food.
Because your'e broke

Remember he did not ‘earn’ from working..inherited.

I’m 28 too! Hi!
This video doesn’t do it justice... you have to see it for yourself
I am
The utter amount of things in the house is insane !!!
False. It's a beautiful house, but the experience is too expensive and crowded.
@@jmnf728 Not really lol
It's expensive, $94 a ticket. The video says over 1 million visitors each year, and at that rate would gross the estate over $100 mil a year. A plus, they have no shortage of workers there, plenty of staff to ask questions of, or get directions. Tickets are timed e.g. entry at 12 noon, 1 pm, etc. And they are metering guests at the front door to avoid overcrowding. The tour runs through about half the house, the rest is sectioned off and presumably private.
Gorgeous place...adding to my Bucket List of places to see.
Many years ago, I had Christmas eve dinner there in the main room on the 1st floor. Spectacular 👍💖
Did you use up a years wages to pay for the privilege?? I would love to indulge in something so grand on such a special night of the year, the Christmas decorating must have been spectacular, lucky you!
@@hazelpearson7807 No actually it was part of a 6 day AAA Travel Christmas tour. It included an evening tour of the place. I don't think it's done anymore. At least not with AAA or any place that I could find. I'm a teacher. Can't afford much 😊. Back then it was pretty $ reasonable. Now the cost would be unaffordable to me.
I visited the Biltmore Estate years ago and have never forgotten it. I remember some of the rooms and magnificent views as if I saw them yesterday. If you ever get a chance to see it , please don’t pass it up.
Pretty amazing that it was ALL cleared and every piece of green was hand planted...and...their property went all the way to the mountains.
Spring or Christmas are the best times to visit. Beautiful flowers in the gardens during the spring and amazing decorations inside at Christmas.
This is the real deal baby!!!
I have been there at christmas time and i wanted to go back so much everytime i am in that area but i live 1000 miles away
Dont feel bad i live 2 miles away and never been there
Just visited Biltmore Estate back in March with a friend, it may be expensive to visit but definitely worth it! I plan to go back so I can actually taste the wine at their winery and see the decorations during the Christmas season.
I've been to Biltmore estate twice in my life. Once in the 1990' s and then again in 2013. The commercialism of the estate by 2013 killed any thoughts of going back. In the 90's we could walk through the rooms at our own pace and wonder at the beautiful site. In 2013 we were herded through like cattle and I almost passed out from the crush of people.
Hello
Do you live close to the Biltmore Estate
I needing a support of you please
Want to grab your $94 and get you in and out in an hour or less. Maybe they still own it! 1 Million visitors a year.....do the math!!!!!
been there few years ago. best time to go is during christmas time. it was wonderful!!!
As a person who hates to clean 4 bathrooms I can’t imagine 26!!
I think if you can afford a house with 43 bathrooms you can afford someone to clean them for you.
43 bathrooms not 26 so that’s even more overwhelming, in fact, it would take two days to get around them all!!
You usually had servants to clean the house
I toured the Biltmore back in the early '90's and seemed to recall seeng some room decor made from hunted and killed animals. Later, when i saw Mr. Burns sing 'See My Vest" on "The Simpsons", i couldn't but help recalling my tour experience rich in irony.
I was there in 1956. I was 12 at the time and it blew my mind.
Ended too soon. I want to see and know more. I have visited here before years ago and plan on revisiting this summer. The one thing that sticks out in my mind from before are the old pictures of the driveway and how tiny the trees were that line it. They're massive now.
This home is truly gorgeous!
Been there many times. Very beautiful with lovely grounds. Especially beautiful at Christmas.
I toured the house three days ago. $85/ticket and it was worth every penny. Even with the tour, you barely see half the house as the family still won't allow the full house to be toured.
I've been all over the world and this place is worth the trip to visit. It takes a full day to see it so treat yourself, stay at a B &B in a lovely old home in Ashville and enjoy both.
Wow, I have seen the interior and could' see much outside in torrential storms. It is nice he put back some of what he took AND helped repair the Damage.
He left an absolute masterpiece and something we Americans should be truly proud of!
stringer 2295 So?
stringer 2295 it only makes sense...as white Americans are EUROPEAN descendants
Ian Holm point taken.silly comment I made.👍
YEA RIGHT?? HAHAHAHAHA Easy for you to say. hahahahahahahaha
We went to the biltmore hotel a couple years ago and we got the bus tickets to see this wonderful estate! It was during Christmas time! And the front of it was beautiful with the lights the Christmas tree and all the detail!

I toured the Vanderbilt mansion many years ago.
Beautiful building!
This HOME IS WHAT INSPIRED ME….It took me since 2013 to put it all in (3) FULL BINDERS. *ON EVERYTHING I ❤️ It wasn’t any CELEBRITIES HOME.
I was staying in AUGUSTA GA living ACROSS from the AUGUSTA NATIONALS on Washington Road when I started putting it on PAPER. ON EVERYTHING I LOVE ❤️
The Vanderbuilts were one of America's greatest success stories .
Can't believe Don Anderson from CNN is the great great grandson of the Vanderbilts.
how bout the other C1A host .. the fairy - also vandy relative
Went there for a field trip in 6th or 7th grade, it was a unique experience
I loved working here and exploring all the rooms visitors don't get to see
What was your job?
America is a great country 😊👍🙂🇺🇲❤️
Im blessed enough to live close by and have a season pass. It is beautiful any time but it shines brightest at Christmas and the spring
Thank You Vanderbilt's !
Awesome place to visit! So much to do and see. Wonderful accommodations on site. Village Hotel is affordable. Tons of places close by in Asheville.
It’s SO beautiful!!!! if you haven’t been there you should go! It’s so worth itttt!!!!!
Beautiful!
This one house got more bathrooms than I’ve ever used in my whole life.
I've been watching these videos on old mansions for a couple of days and I've lost track of how many said they were the largest private home in the U.S. All amazing though! Which this showed more of the house.
Visited years ago...beautiful place!
I love going there!
I STAYED AT ON OF HIS HOUSES THAT IS NOW A HOTEL :0

Cute starter home...
Anyone who has been there y’all remember that massive hallway that leads to the faint hallway with the beautiful staircase just to get to the top of the bookshelves
YES!!! SO MANY BOOKS!!!!!
I got so excited, I thought it was the “Baltimore Estate” 😂 Us Marylanders could never build something like that.
Love that whole area !
I cant wait to visit the Residence I use to watch Richie Rich and Mr Destiny when I was a kid so it would be amazing to visit for it would be very Nostalgic

Christmas as Biltmore is a dream trip, so I'm told. Hope to make it some day.
I just went to Biltmore yesterday and it was awesome!
Wonderful place to visit.
Thank you for the video.
I love the biltmore
I cant wait to go. During Christmas is beautiful. I've only seen pictures and videos.
I went years ago... And the grounds were as spectacular as the home.. I read that some scenes from the Peter sellers movie, Being There were shot on the property. Definitely a place to put on your list.
I finished reading Serafina and the Black Cloak and I never knew Biltmore Estate was REAL

I live just miles away and maintain a seasonal pass for Biltmore. Nothing quite like smoking a good joint and enjoying this majestic home and its acres of relaxation.
This amazing story is told in the book "Fortune's Children: The Fall of the House of Vanderbilt"
Thanks for recommending this. I read a full biography on Cornelius Vanderbilt and have been very interested in how the fortune was squandered starting with his grandchildren. I'll check it out.
A book I need to find.
Cool🌸🌸
What a wonderful Site 😀😀
i went to biltmore and i went on its tour. the tour guide knew the security guard and the he told us that the security guard would get so creeped out at night. i would neverrrr even imagine being alone at that home at night..
snow flower Why?
It's supposedly haunted.
I used to work here. It's very haunted.
Christmas is amazing here!
There is a home being built near my mountain home. The home is built of logs however. It's inspired by the Biltmore and has been under construction off and on for about 20 years. Right now it's 130,000 square feet but there are plans to add another 40,000 sq ft. I just hope it gets done but then again, the traffic will increase immensely when it's complete.
Acquired.... thats a cute way to put it ....
This is such a beautiful place.
