    Definitely agree on video games improving language skills. I've always been extremely proficient at English (especially when it comes to reading) and a lot of that was due to video games growing up and then later on reading books. I wasn't raised in an English speaking country but picked up most of my English language skills from these games. I think video games are underrated by people who crap on them. They definitely can be enjoyable, great for improving hand-eye coordination and various visual/congnitive skills.
    However, they can REALLY stunt your emotional growth, especially MMOs like you say. IMO, In 90% of cases MMOs are just a distraction from life. The game mechanics themselves rarely are inherently enjoyable and its mostly about this imaginary sense of progression. Thus, I rarely ever think that they are a good use of time. I don't play games very often but when I do, I find myself gravitating towards coop games, shorter games with good narratives, and fun action/fighting/shooting games. In general I value good mechanics, couch coop and pretty/cinematic experiences a lot more. When I was younger I gravitated towards MMOs and games with progression, lvling up, grinding, etc... But now I find that real life provides ample opportunity for that lol.
    Honestly, this focus on enjoyment applies to any game really! If you only played football to get trophies and "progress", it would also be a terrible use of your time. I think the trick is differentiating between genuine enjoyment and distraction from your pain or feeding into your ego and insecurities.

    Gshred definitely blackpiling at this point, if you're skinny as a teenager that's it your fate is sealed you just can't get jacked.
    Also Max Euceda advises bulking and cutting and you can see that it pissed him off his verdict was definitely biased. The thought of skinny people bulking up terrifies him so he had to call him not natty to dissuade people from bulking.

    For the muscle fiber question, I find it more valuable to consider other factors to decide rep ranges. For lateral raises sets of less than 10 can be iffy on my shoulders. For back movements, sets of 20+ tend to use more bicep than back. I literally can't remember the last time I took muscle fiber distribution into account when deciding rep ranges.
    Edit:
    For the small forearms and calves question, I'm on board with the 3 days per week answer. Calves I go slow and controlled and emphasize pausing in the stretched position. Each session I alternate between a straight leg and bent knee variation (only 1 movement each day). The stretch and frequency are the big drivers in my experience.
    Forearms I do 1-2 movements 3 days per week (or how ever many days I train). I have 3 categories of movement for them: 1) wrist/finger curls (flexion only) 2) hammer/reverse curls (radiobrachiais and brachialis) and 3) barbel wrist roller (works flexion and extension). I don't choose 2 from the same category on the same day.

    Congrats Geoff! Well deserved. In regards to the second question, I agree with you and I think the other scenario in which pre-exhaustion can be valuable (in my anecdotal experience) is if you struggle to connect with or make a certain muscle the limiting factor in a compound exercise. I know you mentioned this in your recent back training video tangentially. What has been your experience with this?

    • @GVS
      @GVS  Рік тому +1

      I'll probably incorporate more of it when bulking again. When cutting it's hard to do a lot of activation work when already doing a lot of volume. For the lats especially the few exercises that don't work the biceps/triceps I'd rather just use as main movements.

    With your GOG-list and your refusal to do shorts you draw me even deeper into your net.
    As a note, there are factors benefical to heart health which are improved only with high or low intensity cardio. Ideally, one would do both (with a higher volume on low intensity). And for concurrent resistance and endurance trainees, I can recommend Alex Viadas stuff, including his book ("The Hybrid Athlete"). TLDR would be to don't overdo resistance exercise volume and focus on the big leavers, be especially cautious to keep your endurance training mostly in zone 2 (of 5) and constantly keep listening to your body.

    So I'm currently at the point about lower versus upper abs and doing specific movements for them.
    If you look at it biomechanically, the individual abs could be seen as individual muscles because they insert into the tendinous separation.
    So it could be implied through the EMG data and old school techniques and results that each ab is its own muscle belly with its own potential for hypertrophy

    Yea on cutting before bulking, I've found that the lower I start a bulk the better it's been for me once I switch modes. My worst bulk started when I was already like 13-15% and the superior ones were probably 12% or lower to start. This last one I finished probably started at 10-11% and I could've and probably should've went a bit lower but the diet was taking too long because life events LOL, but I should've just did the 2 extra weeks to get 2-3 more pounds off. Also great point easing into bulks, you wanna milk every pound gained to be certain vs. just tryna speed run.

  • @danielgilbert8338

    For me, having abs before my pull day was limiting my pull ups, a movement I'm very focused on.
    I used to do a little bit of abs at the end of each workout. But at a certain point there were too many movements I needed to get in on each day to be able to fit in any quality ab work.
    So now my split is: Pull, Abs and Glutes, Push, Legs.
    Which is working out great for me

    • @Madchris8828
      @Madchris8828 Рік тому

      8 or more is hard to program and get enough tonnage in the surrounding workout for me. Nice to see that others are finding that advice useful too. Myo reps, drop sets and cluster sets are pretty effective but I think straight sets always win in pure stimulus, high intensity techniques are a good way to get lots of work done in a short time but it is a sacrifice in stimulus for time. I find high intensity techniques are more or less effective based on your disposition, they work for me because it gets hard to train to failure on set after set of a boring movement like leg extensions so I focus better with the “this is my one set” mentality, for someone else that might not work, going all the way to hell one time might not be better than going close a few more times and having a few opportunities to get it right.

      Ha, minus the scars! But yea...that's probably my favorite in terms of storyline. Without exaggerating at all it definitely shaped who I am as a person at least a bit, it really makes you think. BG is way better gameplay so I play it more but PST has a special place in my heart.

    My question didn't make it into the video but GVS was nice enough to answer directly in the comments so I'll post here. My question (paraphrasing) was how many straight sets is 1 myo-rep set equivalent to?
    Answer: "Really tough to give an exact ratio. I think in my book I counted each mini set as a half a set, rounded down. So it would count for 3 sets. But that's just an approximation, could be less or more, no way to really tell for sure."

    11:05 I've always been much better at sprints than long distance running, but no way I've got fast twitch muscles. My combo of height (6'11) and weight always made it hard to run long distances and I'm not explosive at all, but I think my sprinting technique is so much better than most people so I can basically run at the top of my physical ability, also, I guess those long strides kinda help lol

      That could just entirely be your cardio / conditioning. If you're a really good sprinter (or explosive wrestler, etc etc), it's a lot more clear. It shows up pretty clearly in sports that have bouts of maximal effort.

    Oh and to add on to the question the dude asked about cutting and how low you go before bulking. Be real careful with duration of cut and dietary fat intake. I cut to the point my dick stopped working for 5 months :) took two months into a bulk to get any 'sensation' back.

    Hey Geof. Quick question. I'm currently eating between 4000 - 4500 calories a day. Over the past couple weeks it seems like Ive started to lose weight/fat. I'm eating like 95% healthy whole foods ATM. Am I going to have to add junk food to keep gaining weight? I'm 5'11", 200 pounds and my form of cardio is walking only.

    • @GVS
      @GVS  Рік тому +2

      Quite possibly, past 4500 calories most get full when eating clean.
