I find it hard to realise this game had such epic graphics back in 2011

The gaming industry has witnessed a big shift in general. This came out in a time period where microtransactions were close to nonexistent and finishing your game after release with patches and "free content" was the exception and not the status quo. It was the norm to release a game in its complete form with the intention to create something that will be remembered as a milestone in gaming history. Nowadays all morals are swallowed as it's all about following the current trends and maximizing profit while keeping damages at an "acceptable" level, even if it destroys your reputation and customer relationship. Battlefield 2042 is just another parade example

Even in 2024, two years after Anime Season 2 of Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, BATTLEFIELD 3 still the best. It should've been easy 94 on Metacritic yet, they only gave it 89 for PC and 85 for PS3.
Every dev on future battlefield games should watch this once a day to keep direction. Absolute classic.

They didn’t even bother with a single player campaign. Frankly I’m not sure what the hell we even bought with 2042. It’s basically just BF4 with another game mode and new maps.

I love the detail of audio becoming muffled once you don the helmet, Battlefield games used to have so much love and attention to detail put into them.
For a game from 2011 it has surprisingly 4K HD graphics.

3:50 Is the moment when the game shines and the developers knew this. Until now, the take-off of an aircraft from an aircraft carrier has never been shown like this in a computer game.
Surprisingly, even Honoka Kousaka and Usagi Tsukino still love Battlefield 3.

I never noticed this before but at 3:22 as the pilot is pulling the left turn your characters vision greys out at the edges as he's pulling a High-G maneuver. That's really cool attention to detail

10:33 is pretty amazing too, it sounds a bit different from the main theme of bf3, it's really cool

I cried and was in pure awe when I played this just now on my brand new first pc in 240fps & 2K, my previous gaming experience of this scene was with ps3 years ago so this experience was just absolutely stunning, this was so ahead of It's time.
Shioriko Mifune and Ayumu Uehara both also replayed this Jet Mission on Battlefield 3 multiple times due to how amazing that level is for a decade old game.

The sound design in this entire mission is so good that you can listen to this with your eyes closed and still know exactly what's going on.
Absolutely LOVE the little detail of the voice actors having labored breathing when fighting other pilots. Really goes to show how scared they really are knowing one good lock on could kill them.
This is acctually due high-g maneuvers... Aviators have to breathe in a particularly way in order not to pass out.
That’s not why they are breathing very heavily , it’s because of the high G force load they are experiencing that makes it hard to breathe

@@CamperIV We are at the end of increasing polygons, our strategy for increasing graphics now are more realistic means of light and shadows, which are much harder to notice.
one of the most immersive games I've ever played both graphics and audio are done so well in this game, even when compared to today's standards (what standards lol?) easily one of the best FPS games of all time....at the time I built an audio system and new PC just to play this game

Man.... 3:50 gives me goosebumps, oh the nostalgia, simply simply amazing!
That launch and fleet flyby sequence was without comparison in all of my video game experiences. No other game came close to this adrenaline rush this gave me. And it was really just watching it all happen really. The radio chatter, the feeling enclosed in the cramped canopy. Fighter pilots are some pretty hard core people. Mad respect.
Me too, I play videogames since around 1987, MSX and NES era. This mission on BF3, totally unexpected, took my breath away, graphically and emotionally, a true masterpice.
You should check out carrier ops on DCS.
For fighter pilots this scene is just a joke and meme. DCS World is the real flight simulator with real physics and weapon systems.

@@martino6172 for sure. For someone with no experience fighters or proper sims, though, this was nuts. Especially back then. I hadn't seen a game do it this well at that time.
Wishing I could re-live the entire experience again, find it hard to believe that this was a decade ago, we were so young, this area of BF games was simply unique! Miss it with all my heart.
This was because That generations leadership cared about quality. Now leadership is all corporate lawyers instead of lead developers running the show..

just recently re-installed BF3 to play through the campaign (went straight online back in the day) this mission blew me away, not the most interactive but the attention to detail in the audio is awesome & the visuals on ultra @ 120hz are spectacular, especially when you consider the games age, dam just makes 2042 even more disappointing
It's important that EA constantly gets reminded of this in EVERY comment section.. No excuse for profit margins being so high w/ quality being so low.
I'm watching this with headphones, full screen, and lights turned off. This felt really intense, I can't imagine what the Air Force goes through. Kudos to them

Its more psychological and cognitive than this. Usually its not swarms of fights all in step with multiple locks. You're thinking about preserving energy and planning your maneuvers based on the threats present. You also fight alongside your wingman much more.
The most common case is fighter jet vs SAM missiles, which is nothing like this. That involves a lot of countermeasures and last second maneuvering, so it's probably similar in intensity but not otherwise!

Grew up with bf3 in my teens. Always played when I visited my dad both sp and mp. God knows how many times I've played this mission back then.
It's what got me hooked on fighter jets and aviation as a whole. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have gotten into warthunder air, vtol vr and soon to be dcs.
I do not regret a single hour i spent on these games (maybe the money in wt....)

1:16 It's hard to overstate how mind-blowing these visuals were back in the day.
Not even COD MW 2019 and MWII 2022 can match the visual from Battlefield 3 or 4.
Not only the graphics at that time but this mission has insane immersion from the sound too.
Not even Ace Combat 7 levels can match Battlefield 3 somehow.
Easily the best mission of any Battlefield game.
Would LOVE to see Battlefield 3 redone with VR and modern graphics.

Gosh, when I was in high school, I played this when it came out my senior year. My dad was in the Navy and worked on several ships and carriers. I was so excited to show him this when I first saw it myself. He really and truly watched every second of this mission and was fully invested in the realism. My dad has passed away now, and I will always remember this mission and the memories it will always bring. Thanks, Battlefield 3. ❤
This is by far one of the coolest mission intros ever. When the other F16 pulls up next to you and the battlefield music kicks in oh my GOD! Chills!

This is probably the single most badass moment in a FPS campaing. 11 years and still give me chills.
13 years now and its still very amazing.
This mission was nuts. Honestly, every now and then a warzone match comes close to this feeling. The part that made it special to me was the communication.
Felt like I actually had to get done what I was told vs just playing to laugh at something.
I remember playing this way back. The sound is so awesome with a nic headset. I would also like to try this in VR. I just saw the new TOP GUN movie lastnight so I want to play it even more now lol
Man these missions in bf4 and bf3 always gave me the chills they were so epic I wish I could feel that epic feeling someday again

First time I played this game, I was using a gtx 560 1gb non ti. Was able to get 60fps at 1080p ultra. Very well optimised. And still looks great today 👌

holy shit man... i find it so freakishly amazing how people design what goes into a hyperrealistic video game like this. beyond jaw-dropping how much work goes behind the scenes to create something as majestic as this.
Battlefield 2 and COD 3 also amazing.

Battlefield Bad Company also has memorable levels.
I have a video of this exact scene from when the game originally launched. I had just purchased the new GTX 680 with my entire paycheck and I was so hyped for this game. To this day still have the most hours in BF3 over any other.

Arma 3. I don't play it much so I can't testify fully but from what I've seen it's a nice mix complexity wise between the two + ground ops to actually support

I remember playing this while deployed aboard CVN 77. Saw the 77 and loled a bit. Honestly a really accurate depiction apart from a few things.

I remember playing this and I suddenly felt like I had some sort of pressure after the hatch close scene. Still the best BF I played.
There's something about the bf3/bf4 art style, that grittiness. I wish we get more of this but just with higher quality/resolution textures.
Coming back to this it's still incredible. Here's the thing, I don't think gamers want an entire game to be this on-rails BUT some of the most memorable missions in modern gaming have been pretty scripted and on-rails and I think this is because it allows the devs to pump up the immersion factor so much and focus on little things like animations and specific sound design. The kind of things that are missed if the player is running around more freely. I am thinking of this mission from Battlefield 3, and also the Clean House mission from Modern Warfare.
Both lack player agency, but are very well remembered because of the immersion and attention to detail. I think if most shooters had tight focused missions like these, they would be remembered a lot more.
DICE themselves know when they were at their best! The Battlefield community needs to petition for a remaster of the BF3 Campaign to PS5 and Series X standards.
Or just release the game in this state on new consoles. It doesn't even need any work. 4K 120 FPS would work.

The energy is just all the way up it’s great
I played this with 3d glasses on the tv, it is so immersive to feel the cockpit depth, how small it actually is, like you are on a backseat of a bike, with small scratches here and there. This would be awesome to play in 3d helmet with 4k and good headphones.

@@Psych0technic This is nothing like that mission, you use an AC-130 Gunship in death from above, in that mission you provide ground support for your boys, in this mission you are clearing an airfield
The pilot's voice actor is really something, you can hear the suppressed fear in his voice when he's evading that initial lock from the enemy,
Theres just something about this game that gets me every time, easily up there with the best fps games of all time
