- Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 1: Two Swords
In this scene, whilst Olenna Tyrell plans out the jewelry for the Royal Wedding, Brienne of Tarth comes forth with news concerning Renly Baratheon's untimely death. - Фільми й анімація
I will never get over Lady Olenna being utterly unimpressed with everyone she meets, compared to the absolute pure delight she feels when meeting Brienne for the first time
In the books, she was even more unimpressed with everyone. When she met Sansa, she probably always thought of her an idiot and even ghosted her after she wasn’t of any use. She probably told Margaery and her cousins to do the same. And then she even said she wished she could’ve beaten her son Mace Tyrell more since he is such an oaf and a fool. I wouldn’t even be surprised if she actually killed her oaf husband Luthor Tyrell so she could take over House Tyrell through Mace.
Recently an older female customer came into where I work, and at the end of her time there, told me “I just wanna say, you are in *fantastic* shape” and it just felt exactly like this
(Though I blushed like crazy)
And omg seeing her next to Margery.....absolute UNIT! this is who I imagined spartan women looked like.
big part is because Olenna a powerful woman, but her power was obtained by playing the game from a female position, using her wits, being cunning, manipulating, seducing etc so her watching a woman like Brienne not only entering the male world as a knight but thriving is a no brainer why she see her with such admiration, she gets a similar reaction but on the negative side with Cersei who looks at her with jealousy because she wanted to live the world as the males do but wasnt even allowed to dream about it by Tywin
_"The one who brings me the best necklace, will get to keep the next best"_
Now *that* is one hell of a boss
It's a great leadership skill, being able to motivate your 'employees'; the girls will do their absolute best so they can get a very pretty and expensive necklace for free, and Olenna will be sure that she gets a necklace of the best quality available.
Ikr they looked so cute running away and giggling😂
"your grandfater gave me a necklace just like this" *tosses it over the balcony.
😂...
She's beyond amazing!!!!!!! XD 😆😆😆
Necklace goes YEEEET
🤣🤣🤣
She just made some poor peasant down below very happy.
The fact the Queen of Thorns (the last person on Earth you’d expect a compliment from) calls Brienne “marvellous” is such a warming moment!
She’s clearly amazed by her and regards her as a remarkable woman.
game recognizes game
Real recognize Real
I took Brienne’s reaction quite differently. She didn’t seem flattered. She seemed uncomfortable and annoyed. She had a slight hint of a smile but mostly because she had to out of proper respect as knight would to a lord or lady. But Olenna’s gushing effusive praise was just calling attention to Brienne’s height and size. People do that to her and make her feel like an oddity to be gawked at. Even if Olenna was being genuine, sometimes even smart people can be dense saying things they think is a compliment but is actually making the other person feel bad.
@fmod77 This is certainly one possible interpretation.
Personally I think not only did Olena mean her compliments, I think Brianne took them well. Just look at Olenas behavior in other scenes. During their knitting circle for example with all the other girls. "Do you like it nena?" She's asked. Only to get straight up roasted by Olena. Basically saying the girl is boring. Brianne on the other hand is not only female, she represents the values Olena truly respects. Mainly strength, courage and determination. Brianne on the other hand, has a different story. As you know, she was picked on from a young age for her size/height.
Yet by whom? Last I knew it was mainly the boys at the ball who did not want to dance with her. So Stannis danced with her instead. Telling her she was special. Olena praising her was probably the best compliment she's heard all year.
@@justsomeguy-yd3yw It definitely wasn't Stannis, it was Renly.
Fun fact: that wasn't a prop that Olenna threw it was a real necklace. They were borrowing it from a jewelry store and needed to return it after shooting the scene. So Margery's actress looking shocked was a genuine reaction as was everyone's reaction. It took the production team hours to find that necklace. And Diana Rigg got a warning from the director to not do that again.
Olenna's spirit possessed her
a power move in and out of fiction
Meh. She'd do it again of she wanted to
I love how there is an immediate edit right after she throws the necklace as if the director was like FOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK NOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!! THAT'S NOT A PROP!
What?! I didn't knew that! 😂
I love how Brienne has been ridiculed her whole life and then meets the person famous for roasting the shit out of people and all they do is genuinely and enthusiastically compliment her
“Your grandfather gave me a necklace just like this”
*Soft sentimental smile from Margaery
*YEET
Apparently, that wasn't a prop, those were borrowed from a jeweler and had to be returned. The team is said to have spent ten hours searching for the thing after the shot.
The way she said "you dare not refuse" with a joking smirk is such a wholesome scene.
I love the way in which Brienne lowers her eyes in dismay when Olenna said "we know who you are" (she expects to hear insults since Olenna is nicknamed the Queen Of Thorns for her sharp tongue and uncharitable opinions) -- but to Brienne's considerable surprise, Olenna thinks she's "just marvelous!" Brienne can't resist a tiny smile when Olenna praises her for winning the melee against Olenna's grandson Ser Loras -- she's so unaccustomed to compliments. Even though Olenna knows there are things she isn't free to say with impunity, she doesn't usually hide her feelings or pull her punches.
"Joffrey will give me a necklace of dead sparrow heads"
Ironic considering she was imprisoned by Sparrows, and if Joffrey had been alive he would have certainly given her their heads
That "My... WOOORD" gets me every time 😄
Everything Olenna says gets me every time.
Apparently the delivery was unscripted/improvised. She was going to remark “hearing is one thing” but she goes “my word!” instead. Olenna was a total G.
Seeing olenna actually being nice to someone is really rare
I agree. Women like Brienne are really rare in Westeros: Nymeria, Visenya, etc. It's like seeing a famous inventor centuries after Da Vinci's time.
I love that you can tell Olenna and Margery were genuinely kind and compassionate people. Shrewd and ruthless when necessary but not cruel. They sought to protect Sansa because she was a girl who needed protecting from people who would do her wrong. They treated their servants with respect and showed kindness to people like Brienne. And even when ruthlessness was required they were never cruel nor did they take pleasure in the suffering of others. Both of them were disturbed by the grotesqueness of Joffrey's death, even Olenna who orchestrated it. And Olenna even took steps to have Sansa removed from Kings Landing in the process
The genius of Ollena's offer to the maidens is underrated. She simultaneously ensured that she would get the best necklace and prevented any sabotage between the ladies because they would help or not impede the other girls from finding a good one.
Also, amazing foreshadowing with Margaery and the sparrows line.
They are her other granddaughters.
Olenna is the grandmother we all need.
That statue of Joffrey is an abomination! I hope one of Dany's dragons destroys it.
Captain Barbossa I hope she leaves it for Jon so he can take Gendry's warhammer to it.
good wish
Captain Barbossa Your wish just come true
You got your wish.
You're welcome.
This comment aged like some fine wine.
Brienne is a magnificent person.
She’s a traitor
@@artemesaulkov2010 Fair enough, but I really don’t think she had many options.
@@silvertemplar8061 she should have pledged to her rightful king stannis. No one even punished her for executing her rightful king
@@shakurwright2522 you are a traitor
Ah… got fans. Living life like real life rpg.
"You watch that" - translation: "Be cool! No one can suspect us when I poison that little creep."
The way she says My Word, she wished she had a daughter like her.
It was real. She had no idea how big Gwendoline Christie was, so she was actually taken by surprise
@@B1izzardHawk Oh! So that's why her reactions looked so natural. Too bad they ruined the series in the end
I think Olenna has two daughters, Mina and Janna though in the show. She did say to Margaery that Luthor fathered her children, so she had more than one. And not much is known of them so one of them might’ve turned out to be a little like Brienne, just less tomboyish.
@@garlantyrell6368so the ending with Bron is even dumber than we thought as that means the super powerful Redwynes, Olenna’s bio family who she married her daughter into didn’t get to rule or even help out their rightful ruler!
I love Lady Olenna's infinite sass lol
I saw a comment on another Olenna-Brienne video that sums their first interaction perfectly; "Gold recognizes gold"
It’s amazing the compliments what olenna gives to brienne. At no time is she flattering her or talking about her is a pleasant way. brienne is a spectacle to olenna, which brienne could only appreciate the direct honesty.
Easily one of my favorite moments in the show.
Brienne was probably the embodiment of everything Olenna wanted her country to be-beautiful in nature but strong in ability.
I believe that Diana Rigg chucked a very expensive necklace. It was not a prop. Someone had to go get it back
The look on the production crew's face had to have been priceless af that day
Did anyone notice that she told Margaery to watch it regarding bad mouthing, even with her in kings landing, and then Margaery reminds Brienne - although it could just be showing the difference in honour between people in GoT
The way she just tossed the necklaces cringed me broke ass 😭
Apparently that was real jewelry too. The crew had to go find them afterwards
MY WORD!!!
Mira! She seems strangely happy... I mean I was banished, Rodrik was stabbed, her father was murdered...
This was probably before all that happened
Mira of Ironwood? Which one?
There really is one that looks exatctly like Mira, although the game was no actual canon to the show, at least the Roy made it fit pretty neatly. I still watch gameplays of telltale game of thrones as background sound, I don’t know why
I saw in an interview that appearantly the necklace throwing wasn't scripted and the necklace was actually valuable, hence why the shot gets cut, the poor set people had to go into the bushes to retrieve it. lol
Absolute legend was Olenna she was kind but also not a fool she knew exactly what game she was playing
Olenna (meeting brienne of tarth) : "😍I've seen magnificents😍. let me adopt you"
She was a woman who could best men in the game of politics, but the idea of a woman beating warriors in combat was something that must have given her some sense of satisfaction.
Why does Brienne looks so uncomfortable when Olenna compliments her
She's not used to it
@@coralroper6876 ah, good point!
Brienne is treated like shit in the universe for her profession and (in the books) she is supposed to be kind of ugly so people mockingly call her “the Beauty” (though they cut this because Gwen Christie is actually pretty lmao)
@@aegonthedragon7303 mockery is often masked in backhanded compliments and faux niceness in Westeros (and honestly a lot of rich western culture in general over the years)
It’s why she seems genuinely confused that Tormund is so into her, and that Olenna is actually impressed by her presence
@@aegonthedragon7303I still can’t stand how Randal was towards her he had what was coming to him in the show in the books it might be better
thanks for uploading ,my favourite scene in GOT
I love the way she says “My word” 😂
I can't tell if Ollena meant the compliment she gave Brienne or simply was looking for a reason to insult a family member.
Now that's how you give someone a genuine compliment. I think if Lady Olenna could've taken Brienne back to Highgarden, she would've. Olenna respected strength and uniqueness. Dame Diana Rigg was just playing herself, methinks, lol.
Misread as "Olenna Tyrell's Jewish"
Jewellery (British English) or jewelry (American English) consists of small decorative items worn for personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, pendants and bracelets.
Jewellery may be attached to the body or the clothes, and the term is restricted to durable ornaments, excluding flowers for example.
For many centuries, metal - often combined with gemstones - has been the normal material for jewellery, but other materials, such as shells and various plant materials (such as amber or wood), may also be used.
It is one of the oldest type of archaeological artifact - with 100,000-year-old beads made from Nassarius shells thought to be the oldest known jewellery.
The basic forms of jewellery vary between cultures, but are often extremely long-lived; in European cultures, the most common forms of jewellery (such as rings and necklaces) have persisted since ancient times, while other forms, such as adornments for the nose or ankle, important in other cultures, are much less common.
Historically, the most widespread influence on jewellery in terms of design and style have come from Asia.
Jewellery may be made from a wide range of materials.
Gemstones and similar materials such as amber and coral, precious metals, beads, and shells have been widely used, and enamel has often been important.
In most cultures, jewellery can be understood as a status symbol, for its material properties, its patterns, or for meaningful symbols.
Jewellery has been made to adorn nearly every body part, from hairpins to toe rings, and even genital jewellery.
The patterns of wearing jewellery between the sexes (and by children and older people) can vary greatly between cultures, but adult women have been the most consistent wearers of jewellery; in (modern) European culture, the amount of jewellery worn by adult males is relatively low compared with men from other cultures (and other time periods in European culture).
The word jewellery itself is derived from the word jewel, which was anglicised from the Old French "jouel", and beyond that, to the Latin word "jocale", meaning plaything.
In British English, Indian English, New Zealand English, Hiberno-English, Australian English, and South African English it is spelled jewellery, while the spelling is jewelry in American English.
Both are used in Canadian English, though jewelry prevails by a two to one margin.
In French and a few other European languages, the equivalent term (joaillerie, in French) may also cover decorated metalwork (in precious metals), such as objets d'art and church items, not just objects worn on the person.
Stella Maris cool
Yeah I think so too
I can copy and paste too :)
It figures that the one person Olenna would instantly take to would be Brienne of Tarth
Ollena should've been queen. Period
Is it me or Is Brienne the only woman Oleena basically respects for throwing her grandson into the dirty?
Olenna belongs in the Benejeserat tbh
Anybody else spot the statue with a saxophone right at the end?
Why is Brienne mirroring the Tyrell colours?
Throwing away expensive Jewelry #RichPeopleThings
Yeah but you have to remember in a medieval world she'll be expected to largely stay home and pop out heirs for the rest of her life. Possibly dying in the process potentially and having to submit to crazy psycho husband for the rest of her life as well. This marriage had it worked probably would have been the last good day of her life with rest just largely being a act. Ollenna was trying to make it memorable for her.
NONSENSE
She was too weak for the game of thrones
No she wasn't
I don’t think she was necessarily too weak, but that, like Olenna said in later seasons, she had a failing of imagination. Once she was queen and believed she had Tommen safely in her pocket, that she would be able to control Cersei. She never imagined the risk Cersei would have taken to get Tommen back, and to undermine her entire house.
Nor could anyone have predicted that Cersei would literally commit a violent act of terrorism to wipe out her enemies all at once.
A fortnite is 2 weeks time. I had heard that word a lot but never knew that till recently lol
