In those days, she could have had it inside her own ring. Why involve Sansa at all? That was Baelish's idea and Lady Olenna could not have cared less if she put her in danger.
And she would have put the poison in the cup while Joffrey was cutting the pie. Margeary had conveniently placed the cup not too far from where Olenna was sat, it happened off screen but that was the only opportunity she would have had.

Also if only a drop killed Joffrey it would have killed Tyrion too, he licked some off his finger after he wiped his face and said "a fine vintage. It would also be harder to slip the poison in directly under Joffrey's nose than when his and everyone's attention is elsewhere so it would make more sense to slip it into the goblet when the pie was being cut and she had a cleaner opportunity to do it than when she didn't know where everyone would be looking.
Funny thing is, one of the reasons why specifically she kills Geoffrey isn't just to Protect her granddaughter, but Loras too. Does anyone here really think Loras would have let Geoffrey hurt his sister? That he wouldn't have killed him in anger the second he found out he had tried anything on her? The blame would fall on Sansa, as she had the jewel and she also had the reason to commit the murder - which actually did happen; Sansa was accused of regicide, along with Tyrion, and is the most wanted woman in Westeros. So, worst case scenario, assuming Sansa didn't manage to flee: Sansa would have been executed for murdering the king. Not the ideal plan for the Tyrells, who wanted her alive and free to marry Willas Tyrell, but better than having the blame to fall on any of them. And let's not forget Sansa is not a priority for the Tyrells; they do like her, but wouldn't die for her, and their main goal is having Margaery married to a king who is not a psychopath. Best case scenario: even though she is carrying the murder weapon, Sansa is seen as too innocent and naive to plot such a thing or to even know what is going on, so the blame falls on Dontos, who gave her the jewel, and on Tyrion. Tyrion recognized Littlefinger for the real threat he was (well, he is, in the novels). So Littlefinger bribed Ser Mandon Moore to kill Tyrion during the Blackwater battle (that's why Tyrion was attacked during the battle). But this failed, so Littlefinger plotted Joffrey's death with Olenna Tyrell. And also, Littlefinger wanted Sansa badly from the moment he had seen her during the first tournament (that's season 1). We know (from the last book - Dance with dragons) that when Ned was in prison (yes, that's season 1) Littlefinger offered to marry Sansa. To ensure he didn't kiss her or bed her before it worked. Joffrey was a child and a light weight... his bed time was like a solid 6pm.. he would've drank and immediately wanted to go to the bedroom to sleep with Margaery. They needed something fast and in public... so it was evident Margaery was still "pure" and so no one could say Margaery poisoned him.. because as you see Cersei immediately blamed Tyrion when it made no sense that he would do it. Now imagine that, but a woman from a family that is your rivals? They would've had Margaery killed immediately. Olenna had to protect her grandkids.
Getting the jewel off of Sansa's neck was the easy part, and way too easy to show us. But the fact that the directors of the show didn't bother showing us how she did the hard part - getting the poison into the wine, shows me the director's cowardice.
It wasn't necessary to show it. They simply called cut and while all the actors were busy checking their phones, the director had the grandma slip the poison into the drink... 😂

Why did they use an imidiate poison? wouldnt it make more sense to use a slow poison to kill him while he was asleep or something to make it less obvious
To ensure he didn't kiss her or bed her before it worked. Joffrey was a child and a light weight... his bed time was like a solid 6pm.. he would've drank and immediately wanted to go to the bedroom to sleep with Margaery.
They needed something fast and in public... so it was evident Margaery was still "pure" and so no one could say Margaery poisoned him.. because as you see Cersei immediately blamed Tyrion when it made no sense that he would do it. Now imagine that, but a woman from a family that is your rivals? They would've had Margaery killed immediately. Olenna had to protect her grandkids.

Getting the jewel off of Sansa's neck was the easy part, and way too easy to show us. But the fact that the directors of the show didn't bother showing us how she did the hard part - getting the poison into the wine, shows me the director's cowardice.

It wasn't necessary to show it. They simply called cut and while all the actors were busy checking their phones, the director had the grandma slip the poison into the drink... 😂
The fact that she killed him was supposed to be a secret. Why would they show it?
