I like to think that the designers of these ships crowd around a screen to watch the “report card” on their latest design. I really feel the 400i is proof that they watch and listen to this series.
Two things you missed: - There is a button to raise and lower the cargoelevator on the panel right next to the door to the cargoroom, its the lower of the two buttons. - You can actually open the mirror in the Bathroom, it has a small shelf behind it. The button is on the lower right of the mirror.
@@asbrand they are actually the component housings for the batteries. you cant see the button but at the back of the cargo bay right in the center a foot or so of the ground, if you hold f and interact it opens up these compartments.
@@venividivici2195 - how the heck did you even find that? :-D Did what you said, and still took several tries to get the right sweet spot, but yeah, opened right up. Thanks!
The “nostrils” are meant to mimic anchor portholes on older sea vessels. Large ships like the Titanic and Queen Mary used them as a distinctive design point.
Run Away! It’s an intellectual fashion show. Think court-jesters or economic soothsayers of a kingly court: your job will be to please foppish elites. Seriously, find a way to be relevant with your interest in design and architecture. Fantasies like this game/channel are fun tropes, but we blew any chance to get off-world soon and you’ll be adapting today’s {prototype} buildings for tomorrow’s climate. I left architecture for SW and know I affected many more people than their Fountainhead fallacies.
@@jonathanedwardgibson This is what I always think when I wonder if I should have been an architect. But then there's no real good jobs in a free market when 1% of people have half the money. All you're doing is pleasing rich people.
@@jonathanedwardgibson I think that’s sadly true for many who work in the field. The only way to have a fulfilling career is to strike out on your own where you have a bit more agency. Ideally doing a development and design combo where you’re the client and architect. Ultimately I tell people not to choose architecture if they’re not passionate about design. I mean truly passionate, to the point of working more hours for less money than makes any financial sense. The sad reality is that most architecture students graduate hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt just for the schooling required to qualify to be an architect or architectural designer, only to make less money than a cashier at a fast food joint. And that’s talking working full time plus unpaid overtime.
Yes! Practical with no wasted space yet elegantly presented, this is an exploration vessel that definitely puts the exploration over the luxury. If the 600i exploration version was revamped using this design mindset then oh man it would be fabulous!
they are doing a rework and i am sure it will be similiar, they plan on adding a med bay and making the cargo bay more usefull and fixing all the wasted space. they say the outside of the ship and the captains quarters will stay the same but the rest of the ship is getting a total overhaul...they probably watched morphs vid on it.
9:20 The controls on the door panel include a button to raise and lower the cargo lift, without the user needing to engage with the button on the elevator beam or go to the cockpit.
To be fair, I think this ship is designed to be detached from a main vessel. Hear me out: While the ship is well armored, it is lightly armed. This suggests that it has enough to survive an engagement, but not enough to win it. It is also a luxury vessel, with just a hoverbike and a Cyclone sized vehicle to get in the ground and explore, also lacking in any dedicated scientific console, and the one that is, is cramped together with the dining area (not a complaint, just stating a fact). All of this suggests that while the vessel has some combat capacity, it is mainly intended for short to medium operations, maybe just hop from one system to another, watch something here and there, and then come back. With that in mind, a top window doesn’t make sense, because it decreases survivability due to weaker material being used, BUT it serves another purpose. Without that window, the only the small windows on the sides and the ones at the back and front (which seem to be harder to hit, so it can afford to have them without lowering safety standards that much) it only serves to calm the hunger for exploration, rather than satisfy it.
@@bogustoast22none25 i agree with you, essentially this is a useless ship on its own unless you want to just go on a picinic...i say hard pass on this pretty turd and get a 600i that is the most usefull origin ship.
The 400i is a true instant classic in my books. CIG will only improve in their craft but I think the work they've done on this one is truly timeless and won't soon be overshadowed by the new and up-and-coming. Because truly good designs are eternal. Origin has really reached a high point with this one.
This I think it's just a culmination of all the tech finally coming to fruition. Once we actually get proper scanning and expo game play, the rear console and co-pilots' consoles will be expanded on but nothing really needs to be added in terms of hardware which is so exciting.
@@JohnVanderbeck this is the 400 you must mean the 600 and they are doing a rework and i am sure it will be similiar, they plan on adding a med bay and making the cargo bay more usefull and fixing all the wasted space. they say the outside of the ship and the captains quarters will stay the same but the rest of the ship is getting a total overhaul...they probably watched morphs vid on it. the 890 is getting a rework but i have not payed attention i have no interest in that one i have a bmm and a 600i and a carrack. the 890 is just for those that want to play bus driver for vip's as far as i can tell.
That's a Wonkavator. Not the same thing by a long shot. an elevator can only go up or down, but the Wonkavator can go sideways, and slantways, and longways, and backways , and every imaginable way possible.
@Morphologis Regarding the cargo lift, the button to bring the lift back up is on the wall next to the door, its the bottom button that says "Open/Close". Not joking, I have a 400i and it manipulates the cargo lift.
I cannot get past of how stunning you have made this ship look. I have already watched this episode many times and have made me appreciate the design of this ship even more. I want to crawl all over this ship and see ever tiny detail they have added on this ship and what makes it so much more than other ships. This ship has me really excited to see what other ships they will come out with. Love this ship a lot personally and it will be my daily driver as I explore what the verse has to offer.
As an engineer, this is one of the only ships i entered and didn't feel massive wastes of space. Only origin ship i care about, i bought it instantly for the interior design and the nubian feels
Yep, it's the first ship in SC, I saw and imedietly loved! I liked the nomad too, and it acompanied me well, but I never thought:" hey, I could live in here forever!" The 400I instead,... wow this is my home!
I am also an engineer, and I felt the same way the instant I saw it! I bought it the day it was revealed. It will replace the MSR I had. While the MSR is vastly more capable, the efficiency of the design doesn't even come close to comparing to the 400i. The MSR was never "believable" to me, and that's what ruined my experience with it. The 400i feels like something that could actually exist 930 years in the future.
@@038alpha I agree. I still think the servers should be moved into the scanner room, or that entire space become the server room and the scanner system relocated.
The Drake Herald is another super efficient ship. Feels very similar to an industrial version of the old Mustang Alpha. It’s got everything you need to live and work in a very compact space.
I have it too... But honestly they completely broke it in the last patches, doors textures will disappear, doors won't close and sometimes you will be stuck in the cockpit unable to escape.... The maneuverability is abysmal.... I don't know man can't understand your enthusiasm especially after spending more than 250 on it
Two things are guaranteed with a Morphologist video: 1. A treat for your ears and your eyes 2. A longing to jump in the verse despite the bugs (piloting a 400i is horrible right now compared to a Connie)
@@noneyadamnbusiness6891 Can you enable CC on your end? I just tried and it worked well but I guess it might not for everyone. Maybe it's a premium user thing?
" (piloting a 400i is horrible right now compared to a Connie)" and it always will be in a battle situation at least. the connie is a badass full of guns and missiles hell it and the 600i are S tier in bounty missions as a solo piliot and if you have a crew they are god tier. the 400i is a joke and pretty sure a cutty would kick its butt, might take it a while to get throught the shields but that just means it takes a little longer to kill...
@@ost1847 yea i wrote that 2 months ago and i have since grown fond of the 400i for certain tasks. if they finally fix the ramp and you could fit a ROC in it again i will be happy and use it more...they should improve it's handling because it is about the size of a cutlass just with a long nose. and if they had the top turret pop up higher when in use so it could hit targets easier in the front it would be pretty good in battle. i did add one to my hanger...
@@ost1847 it will be a long time before the polaris or perseus drops and the redeemer is a good ship but you have to have a crew and it is strictly a gun ship can't carry vehicles pilot does not control the firepower. the connie has good firepower in pilot control and so does the 600i explorer model has good shields and once it gets the interior rework prob within a year or less it will have a medbay for respawn and will have a bigger cargo hold as well it is a great one if solo or crewed for pve bounties. it all depends on if you want to be able to solo and still kick some butt or if your willing to fly with a crew the carrack is a great ship but solo not so much the firepower is in the turrets like the redeemer. the banu merchantman will be a fantastic ship but it is big and not out yet but they are currently working on it. i would check out the ships on the rsi site and youtube vids and figure out your best options for how you want to fly... my daily driver will probably be my 600i and the bmm is gonna be my big ship with crew. but i went crazy on ships i have a bunch of them and i got them cheap a while ago at least compared to how much they are now. so yea just do a bunch of research. a lot of it depends on how much you want to spend of course... the connie is a solid ship for the price and it will get an update in the future as well but no medbay. not sure when the medvac will drop hopefully for pyro but who knows and it will only be good for medical play. for the money the bmm is the best bang for the buck even at $600 but it is not out yet but it will go way up in price as it gets closer to release. if i were you i would upgrade the scorpious because the smaller ships will be easy to buy with in game currency. the bmm will be very expensive in game and hard to get because you will need to get reputation with the banu and learn their language. yea the game is complex so once again... do a bunch of research. check inforunners youtube channel they have tons of info on ships. just remember many of the ships are in concept and some are literally years away from getting into the game. but in reality you can just stick with the connie and buy the other ships with in game currency in the future...all depends on how much disposable real cash your willing to drop on the game. oh and probably get in an org. and you can hook up with folks and check their ships out and get info from them as well.... good luck and see ya in the verse!
I gotta say, the way you talk about those ships, i love it, so soothing, so warm and comforting and always nice to listen to, i am glad i found you and your videos
The wings are limited by the size of the landing pads/entry spaces - however CIG have made a rod for their own back and limited themselves to some very oddly shaped ships now.
Once again, absolutely brilliant work. That shot towards the end of all the Origin ships was incredible - really gives a sense of scope as well as the accumulating history of Star Citizen and the ship manufacturers.
Jared makes a valid point when he says he wants the Genesis Starliner to be the last ship CIG makes. With each new entry to the verse, ship design continually evolves and improves. I personally hope they do the BMM justice.
What I really love is the way they find to use every bit of space, so you could say the space is compact but confortable. Also, gotta love those windows in the rooms! PD:I know this channel focuses in Star Citizen, but I'd love to see a review of the Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect.
I’m surprised that CIG hasn’t hooked you up with previews of ships before their releases! These videos sell me on ships way better then the web page does

@@Brismo7 People who have made thousands of edits on Wikipedia (like myself) would not compare E.B. and Wikipedia as if they were direct competitors. Wikipedia could not exist without institutions like E.B.
I've never been a fan of the 'luxury' look CIG have developed for Origin to date, but this feels right. It feels like a well-appointed but practical aesthetic you could live in, versus the somewhat cold show-off-your-bling look of something like the 600i.
sure but the 600i is S tier solo bounty hunting and this 400i could not even take on a cutty, and the 600i is getting a major rework, the only thing staying the same is the outside and the cpt quarters...

You legit took me from being like, "Meh" to "Oh my god, they actually did a really good job" - love the expert input. I'm not getting one, but I can at least appreciate it. =)
@@VestedUTuber well there are better ships for exploration... actually i have thought about this ship a little more. it may be good as a sniper ground ship if stealthed out. the scanner could be handy for that and then take the bike in closer to sniper positions. but it does suck it will not fit a dragonfly so no 2 people bike. also since it has a docking port it can connect to a larger ship and warp with it as a possible scout and an away team ship.
@@eparock I should have said two jobs, since it might also be able to do VIP transport. And I agree, in the grand scheme of things there are other, better exploration vessels. But there's two factors that make this vessel stand out. 1. Size. It's in an interesting spot as a "medium-large" vessel, being roughly connie-sized. The constellation currently doesn't have ANY actual competition apart from this and _technically_ the MSR (but only because the MSR is a chonker compared to other ships in its actual size class), and eventually the Corsair. 2. Its other job - if it maintains status as a luxury ship, it'll probably be able to do VIP transport runs, which is something no other exploration ship can do. So, while it might overall be better to have separate ships for exploration and VIP transport, cost-wise that might not be viable for everyone. Also, I wonder if this ship will get variants like the 300 and 100 series.
Normally I watch UA-cam on my desktop because 1080p is enough for me, but for your videos I always use my laptop with 2.8k display to enjoy the quality of them even more.
One of the Discords that I'm part of asked the question of which skin folks liked best. The first five answers were all unique. By the tenth answer, the sixth skin was also mentioned. My personal favorite riffs off the specific vibe that you don't care for: the CitCon skin gives the ship a distinct Decopunk feel and that vertically integrated upper deck adds to it, does not detract. The 400i has quickly moved from a ship I didn't know I wanted through "I need this in my fleet," to my current plan for my daily driver. Well constructed video as usual, and your observations bring up good points as well as generate discussion. Thank you.
damn it. The music playing as you entered the flight deck for the first time almost made me cry. I love this ship so much for everything you mentioned.
Always put boxs for box missions in the bike lift. Actually really convenient for smaller loaded stuff. Can also keep a eye on it when flying because u can see the markers for them
@@0waverunner0 No kidding, there's nothing important below it. Just have it work like the Reclaimer's lift that cuts through the entire ship and we're golden.
This remains the single best bit of casual Star Citizen content. Can't wait to pull the trigger on my 400i. Appreciate all the effort that goes into these!
6:00 don't you find it super dangerous that the button for the interior door is right next to the button for the ramp door? They even have the same color and are nearly indistinguishable. This screams for an accidental decompression (once implemented) mid space :)
It's even worse in the 600i, where the fore elevator has 2 buttons for the 2 decks and then just another one to lower the platform outside of the ship. If you're not wearing a space suit, which you usually aren't on a ship like this, which, btw, has a *bar*, so you're even dealing with intoxicated people, you're one click away from certain death.
@@Artemis0713 That's a bug that is going to be ironed out, while the "Oopsie, I'm suddenly in space"-death button is by design. Hopefully they'll put some more work into tings like this. There don't seem to be actual guidelines or design documents that dictate how doors and the like work in the first place, so every ship designer just did whatever they wanted, and they'll all need an overhaul eventually.
I really like the 400i, and it gives me real hope for the ongoing 600i rework. If the manage to get this interieur in the 600, it's gonna be one hell of a ship.
I have a freind who plays star citizen and after hearing about the development purgatory it's in I thought it was a joke. But seeing the detail and watching some of the gameplay made it click as to why he played it. It's a truly amazing and immersive galaxy that I wish I could be apart of, I've never wanted a high end pc more in my life just so I can experience it all.
gen 12 render is slowly being phased in starting 3.15, youll be able to enjoy it on mid range once they finish. i suggest trying every new patch's free fly event, youll be able try it for free every few months and then know when youll be able to get a game package
Disclaimer: I helped fund the original Kickstarer. Very recently, I bought a sweet PC and it was the first game I booted up, and I'm very scared this game isn't for me. It took me 10 minutes and looking up an online guide to figure out how to leave my hab. And that's not even mentioning trying to fly a space ship. Unintuitive and difficult to play are an understatement. I'm hoping that this all can be chalked up to it still being in alpha and they'll work on the controls and making the game more intuitive to control later, but for now it's near unplayable unless you read a lot of guides and devote serious time to figuring out how to perform even basic in-game tasks. For example, I've seen a few people sing the praises of the mobiglass, but the text is tiny, it's all monochrome (why??), and it's difficult to figure out what you're doing at all when you're using it. If this was a single player game, you'd have to download a good menus mod or something to make the game at all playable. Ugh. But hey, I can run the game on the max graphical settings and it looks really beautiful. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.
I do get your point, some things need an improvment (Like UI, as you said) But as years come by and new features get added it will get even harder and complex. Any flying SIM will be hard to master.Period. - That's what differenciates pro-pilots from new ones. DCS, War Thunder and Elite Dangerous are gaming examples that show how complexity increases gameplay deepness. No man's sky flying is "horrible"(And Awfully easy), but it is not what sold it. - SC aims to be a SIM... so... flying wont get that intuitive...
There is no "galaxy" to immerse yourself in, and never will be!.. It has ONE system that is apparently only recently finished, after over a decade lol.. CIG and it's owner Chris Roberts are making hundreds of millions and don't even have a game yet.. Every year they put on a convenient, promise some new features, show a new shiny ship or 2 that is going up for digital sale, then laugh as they have now raked in almost half a billion... The fact is that CIG has absolute ZERO incentive to get development officially "done", because they are going to prioritize shareholders.. Shareholders only care about profit.. CIG once told us we'd be flying around in about 100 systems lol.. Given that it has taken a decade to finish just one, we have another 990 year before we get the other 99 systems lol
@@lunamaria1048 well, im not going to explain game development to someone who has a set opinion. theres many reasons why 100 systems are not in, most involve a concept called server meshing. pyro, which is coming in 4.0 is going to be the first iteration of server meshing. they have systems done, but creating an ecosystem that supports massive assets in real time procedural has not been done. pyro is 3 times the size of stanton. i understand your thoughts, but def suggest you to check out the recent break downs of the tech shown in citcon. id like sc to be 100 systems as well, but im mostly chill about it since I did a lot of research on the whole star citizen drama till now. i joined this January and am a concierge level simply because I understand and believe in the project, why development is slow, how lucrative the tech being developed is, and how they are going about it, or else i would not invest a few grands on it. i have respect to the people who are working on it, especially from a bare bone team to having to scrape all their work on cryenginge then rebuilding their own starengine on amazon lumbaryard. i dont demand anything, its the same as when I invest in new stocks and crypto. to him his own as they say right? btw cig doesnt have shareholders, the developers that cater to share holders are actually fdev (hence a massive exodus from horizons to sc happened). you can actually see their earnings profile on their website, and this year is actually the first year they made a profit lol.
Another great review! I do really love Origin ships generally, but especially the 400i. My main grips are its abysmal roll rate (slated to be fixed, apparently) and I think the pilot guns should be dual S5 hard points. Otherwise, I love it. The adjustable lighting on the bridge is great too. CIG keeps getting better at shipwrighting! I love the fast little lift. Uncomplicated, no gates, just a surface that operates quickly. I've suggested something like this for the Valkyrie in lieu of the ladder. In 2951 it seems that pilots wearing armor shouldn't have to climb ladders unless it's an emergency, and this is even more true for rescue workers or anyone carrying backpacks or items in-hand. I *really* love your visuals and your choice of audio. Top notch there, and the way you lined up all of the Origin ships at the end was just great. Nice to see them all side-by-side like that. I agree with your thoughts about the front gear structure being swept back more. It would streamline it a bit without losing functionality.
400i is great, we need more like it in this size between freelancer and carrack. Corsair and Connie is basically it with maybe the msr, I'd imagine a lot of time is gonna be spent in this range with a lot of people flying ships around this size once stuff like the cutlass becomes too small for the universe Needs a misc ship in freelancer style, a consolidated outland one would be great, an aegis Corsair competitor, maybe a multipurpose banu ship
a Lancer wit an actual captain's cabin i would take. but it would probably end up being like a 6-8 player ship. like how the lancer is already a 4 seater for some stupid reason.
True, a lot of the older ships need a bit of an interior redesign. I wouldn't be mad if the Conny actually got a second floor nearly full length, it would hardly increase the outside size and barely influence the shape but it would allow for so much better living space than it has now. A 600i with 400i level interior design would rock absolutely. The only ship that comes close with the interior design is very strangely the Catarpillar, whole other style but very well designed.
So true... They've been duct-taping the old Connie model so many times and it's just not working. It needs to be scrapped and given a fresh new re-design from the ground up.
@@cass7448 It is an interesting feature, but for me as the game has grown it really doesn't make much sense as it isn't a great fighter, and the risk to the occupant is huge vs using a turret. I also really don't understand why it is made by a completely different manufacturer and so aesthetically looks completely different. The Connie ships would make so much more sense with a second floor, proper loadout space seperate from the dining area, proper crew quarters (bunk beds on long off missions?) and for the Aquila to have some science area and maybe a med space - right now it's not up to date
Not just that, the access chute/mechanism is ridiculous in every way. From as simple as: how do you activate the access chute? to: How many feet have to be severed at the ankle by the closing cover once you've made it up ? How many ankles broken trying to be quick enough to get on the platform once the access cover retracts (wouldn't want to stand on the floor that is moving) since the platform just starts descending regardless? etc etc
I really appreciate the architectural design of this ship. It feels like a futuristic Arab building architecture type. It’s sleek, sharp but smooth at the same time. This is not only a ship but a work of art. It’s something you can look at and think “man I wish this was real life.” One day something like this will be made in our world. And if it is… I hope im alive to design it.
The more I see it, the more I love it. They really need to completely gut the 600i and rework its interior entirely. (For the Exploration variant replace that bar for a 100i/85x Hangar already!)
The interior spaces of the 600i are bad. I melted mine just a couple weeks of acquiring it. The crew quarters in particular boggled my mind. I'm very happy with the 400i.
they are doing a rework and i am sure it will be similiar, they plan on adding a med bay and making the cargo bay more usefull and fixing all the wasted space. they say the outside of the ship and the captains quarters will stay the same but the rest of the ship is getting a total overhaul...they probably watched morphs vid on it.
I'm not alone in thinking the base skin is the best one! I also like the glass walls for the components as it makes the space feel a bit more open, it would be quite cramped if they were solid, and I think (may be wrong) but the cargo lift has another button by the door in and out of the room
The captain's desk drawers also open up for space although it appears as if a ships inventory is pretty much all combined anyway. I like the 400i. The canopy is very 890 and the wings remind me of the 100s. What I like most in terms of the design is it's the first real step Origin has made that doesn't get bogged down in the whole 'luxury' theme. Sure it's nice and all but to me, it simply looks like a smartly laid-out ship with a clean, bright and professional design. If you want to drink champagne, fine, but if you are simply a professional cartographer looking to take 2 other professional technicians out to search and record some new jump points, then this looks to be a thematically viable option. I just find the refined look to be a nice contrast to the many military or utilitarian designs we have that are either dark or duct tape-chic. As a reasonable explorer or general purpose runabout, this is worth anyone's consideration. The real thing that I don't see anyone talking about it fuel efficiency. CI noted that it was good on gas but they made such a big deal about Origin's new AIR tech for the release of the starters, I don't know why they haven't slapped that system on all their ships. They seem to be struggling a bit to justify how this compares to a Connie so making using the AIR tech McGuffin could be a natural selling point as fuel efficiency is of paramount importance to any ship, let alone an explorer.
heh this has been my reply to many in this thread...oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
ok that is crazy! the carrack is just about the most usefull ship in the game but the 400i? oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
Love the 400I for 3 person small explorer I think its perfect in balance, the only aspect I would like is an option that has the ship little higher to allow small rover to be stored, Additionally like you I think the cabin shape not the utility better designed, even a small stair case that takes you upto a dome area, so that when you are exploring you can climb a small ladder up to and observation deck, for some reason the ceiling height level with the back of the deck is the same through the cabins, however the outside proportions front of the living area is larger, this deck area would be great to position a observation deck, alternatively place the Gun mount on the at the back of the ceiling and have an observation area that utilises the nice big bay window, which also brings me onto one small thing the curved bay window is to high. other than this I love the ship. Nice review!
Just got into SC so just finding these videos, as an Entertainment and Architectural Lighting Technician whose worked for Architectural Lighting Designers with clients like Royal Caribbean/Celebrity and various high end retail and fashion lines, I love your reviews of these Origin ships. This ship reminds me of a futuristic equivalent of something like a 50' Katy Kroegen trawler yacht, a luxurious design but meant to be utilized by the owner. A statement that they are not just wealthy (which can be inherited undeservingly) but capable and worthy of your station.
What I like about this vessel is how it looks like a space-capable hydrofoil ferry (not counting the fact it's not for carrying around large groups of people).
Man! I have absolutely no intension of getting this ship in-game because it just doesn't fit my play style. However, this video gave me goosebumps at several points because of how well designed it is and how well you speak about the design. Things I would never have been able to see in-game if it weren't for you. Thanks for another great video! CIG should hire you to do their ship promo videos.
REALLY ERAD!!!!!!!! EVEN YOU! cant believe i have to say this to you bro but... the 400i, oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it. the 600i is S tier solo bounty hunting and is a total badass and the interior is getting a full rework with a medbay. if you crew it it is GOD tier for the top level bounty missions. in other words it can brawl and all the 400i can do is run and cower. what ya gonna do in it run box missions?
I only have a couple of nitpicks about the ship, but it is certainly my favorite ship so far. 1 - (which you brought up) the captain's bed should be bigger. 2 - the navigation lights on the winglets. They should change the starboard side lights to green. 3 - a way to remove or retract the upper rear turret as it blocks the panoramic view 4 - a variant that replaces the holotable with a hot tub, seating, or other type of luxury amenity.
Green starboard lights make sense when everyone shares the same orientation... but in space, when the other ship could be 'upside down' (relative to you), you can no longer make assumptions about their vector based solely on knowing which side is 'starboard', etc.
@@logicalChimp that is true, however. Having some indication of Port and Starboard is beneficial for docking, and space lanes where you are most likely to have an incident, as well as having a fixed orientation within a space lane.
There is also the fact that a very large percentage of the bedroom windows have an obstructed view for no good reason. The window is a stylish wraparound the entire width of the rooms, but it looks like portholes because of the beams that are in the way. It really stands out to me in an otherwise thoughtful design. @Morphologis, I would love to get an Architect's take on that.
Hey Morph, the button for the cargo bay is on the wall next to that entry door. Its the bottom button. As a result, you shouldn't need to go into the cockpit to close the door when opening it from the inside. Otherwise, great video as always!
The Reclaimer and Starfarer have exposed gravity generators, too, it's not just an Origin thing. Also, those component rooms are usable as cold storage for items that will spoil quickly.
@@NormanGaming196 they're pretty obvious if you walk around the ship, but nobody walks around the starfarer if they can avoid it, and it's down a ladder in the reclaimer.
'Glass panels to showcase the high-end ship components' A bit like how 80s high end sportscars, like the Lotus Esprit, had glass panels to show off their engine bays
Even in present day super and mega yachts, you sometimes have a glass corridors through the engine room. Some clients love to look at and show of, the devices and shiny piping. (Engineers hate it though, 'cause they have to design the piping not only in a practical but also aesthetic manner)
@@benjwgarner Except that it doesn't. All you see are white door panels. If you wanted to show it off like PC rig with a window, then you would need an option to lock the panels open.
well, about the grav generator. There might be a grand purpose showing it like that, but my first though was immediately. "We need to put something here so that the bike storage can be smaller and so custom that it only fits the Origin bike" - true apple mentality, just make sure you are compatible with nothing that's not yours.
@@jacktyler58 the gravity gen was there before they put the bike garage in. they even said so at Citcon. And the reason why the cargo lift is small compared to the bay is because it's a game, and as such they need more clearance around the cargo block for players and NPC's to pathfind around the interior. while a character might only look to be the width of a person, the game recognises them as about twice as big, because it needs room for collisions and pathfinding and stuff. It's why a lot of things in star citizen look ever so slightly off from what you'd see in real life. because game engine rules.
It being marketed as an Apple device is actually the main reason I won't get any Origin ships. Multifunctionality is my main concern but hey, some people like fancy. That's why I got the Railen and San'Tok,Yai

Great review, as always Morphologis! Personally, I love the ship. Couldn't have told anyone exactly why before, but it all clicked for me while watching this. It just feels right inside.
I did a trade to upgrade a vessel to the 400I as soon as it came out. I was instantly attracted to the swooping lines and curves the exterior, creating a sense of motion in the shape-language of the exterior. The superior, appointments of the interior combined with the 400I's compact, highly functional interior also make it super fast to get into and out of, a very important benchmark for most missions in Star Citizen. The 400I is also a fun and graceful vessel to fly and it's engines can be seriously overclocked to leave attackers wondering where you've zipped off to in the case of a lopsided encounter. I have also flown a Constellation which wallows through space like a trawler in comparison to this smaller, more agile vessel. I absolutely love the interior appointments even with 90% of my time being spent in the bridge. The 400I is the current pinnacle of the Origin lineup and I entirely agree with the 600I needing some updating to bring it more in line with this standard. This has become my favorite vessel to spend time in, surpassing the Mercury Star Runner which was previously my go-to flyer to get around the Verse. In the end I love the Origin 400I and Crusader Mercury Star Runner both equally as they fill different mission niches well.
I love the 400i :D The only thing i do not like is that it is called precisely "the 400i", in terms of size it is more like the 600i than the 300i and for that reason it should be renamed as _The 500i_ , the true 400i should be a Cutlass size ship.
funny thing is i am pretty sure a solo run cutty would kick this pretty but useless ships ass. oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
The aesthetic grew on me. I’m glad it’s not just an 890 hop, a direct copy of the 890 miniaturized. The shape is beautiful and utilitarian, proof CIG ship teams are now more engineers and architects than game devs. Also, so glad I fought for the right to buy the Meridian skin. It’s gorgeous. I’ve loved the brushed metal look since the Freelancer was added all those years ago. As for the upright superstructure, I love it! It feels like a coastal or river cruiser, a sub-100 foot yacht with more traditional styling, not a high performer with a retractable roof and a planing hull, but one that’s intended to explore shorelines, and cruise on rivers, and provide views and comfort. A hybrid of more traditional, upright superstructure vs the modern designs that are more streamlined and aerodynamic.
Got one of these for it's excellent interior design, and finally a ship that has no wasted space. Literally every inch is properly utilized either having a purpose or to make you love the details. I am hoping all these design skillset gets translated to other ship designs (not just origin, but the rest) for the efficient use of space and not haphazardly putting stuff in places. The only thing I cannot unsee now is the nostrils. Thanks Morph!
I've always loved your architect's take on these ships, and I loved the shot at the end with the Origin lineup... that was pretty cool. I love the ship too, but I definitely hope they create either a mining vehicle or a ground vehicle for this ship, especially with exploration in mind. The X1 bay at the front is one of the coolest parts of any ship in the game though. The fact that they not only made use of the narrow space at the front, but also got it to drop down right at the bottom of the staircase for ease of use is pretty perfect in its design.
Glad y'all are making your own fun. From my experience, these types of meta-games are generally more engaging and memorable than the heavily-structured gametypes that traditional developers create.
Interior: gorgeous, damn near perfect, well thought out to the smallest detail Exterior: funky looking proportions based on an old concept art This is starting to feel like a pattern from CIG
I love the 400i's interiors, but from the outside I think it looks a bit like a swordfish without tail. Especially for an expedition vessel I would have prefered a more robust design, like the 600i. A shorter nose or some extensions at the wings and it would be perfect, but even yet it is pretty close!
and the 600i is a total badass S tier for SOLO bounty missions and crewed it is GOD tier and it is getting a major rework with a medbay...the 400i? oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
I got the game 2 days ago, and I'm making my way towards my first significant amount of credits, always wanted to get a big ship to fly together with friends, and your architect series is really helpful to get a good feel of how all of these multi crew ships look, feel and perform in terms of interior utility. It's hard to experience these by yourself unless they're at an expo, or you get invited by a veteran to fly with them, so I'm using these vids to see what ship I'd like the most. Thanks a lot for all of this.
…well, to answer your question, obviously we love it. I even went along and bought one (not with aUEC). Hopefully in the future I will have some crew to help with utilizing to its maximum effect, but until then whenever I want to relax in game and do some traveling or non-combat / non-timer missions it is my daily runner. And though I don’t have a small hover-like bike to complement the dedicated bay (and I don’t know how I can get one there) this is as close I a will ever get to feeling what it’s like being inside a luxury yacht. And that is what it reminds me every time I see it.
The exterior of the Origin 400i looks like an Eclipse class super star destroyer from the Star Wars extended universe. Look up images for an Eclipse on Wookieepedia, you'll see what I mean.
i was watching a other review, and suddenly my mind was like: Lets check if Morphologis has a review. I love the way you review a ship, and this time also, very nice to listen and to watch.
@morphologis id like to raise you my hat and congradulate you for the hard efforts that have been made for the alignment of the origins ships in the magnificent last scene of the video :) i know it must have been hard to align them all with possible 30k's , grievers , and annoying paparazzi's . so i want to say a big thank you for persevering and making it possible to see them all side by side in their full size in-game glory with an actual perspective and not a fleet making program 3d perspective :D
The Hammerhead walk-in fridge has always had the temperature difference when you walk in. One of the coolest things on the ship. So that is two ships with a temp feature.

Two things you missed:
- There is a button to raise and lower the cargoelevator on the panel right next to the door to the cargoroom, its the lower of the two buttons.
- You can actually open the mirror in the Bathroom, it has a small shelf behind it. The button is on the lower right of the mirror.

Yes! Practical with no wasted space yet elegantly presented, this is an exploration vessel that definitely puts the exploration over the luxury. If the 600i exploration version was revamped using this design mindset then oh man it would be fabulous!

I feel it is missing a "top window" for the crew and the captain. For an exploration ship, the view seems to be somewhat narrow.
To be fair, I think this ship is designed to be detached from a main vessel. Hear me out:
While the ship is well armored, it is lightly armed.
@@bogustoast22none25 lore-wise ship windows/cockpits are an alloy and are actually stronger than the a ship’s armor

This I think it's just a culmination of all the tech finally coming to fruition. Once we actually get proper scanning and expo game play, the rear console and co-pilots' consoles will be expanded on but nothing really needs to be added in terms of hardware which is so exciting.

While the MSR is vastly more capable, the efficiency of the design doesn't even come close to comparing to the 400i. The MSR was never "believable" to me, and that's what ruined my experience with it. The 400i feels like something that could actually exist 930 years in the future.

I should have said two jobs, since it might also be able to do VIP transport.

I mean once decomp is in, opening the exterior without first depressurising the space is probably going to at least have a safety.
I'm sure it'll come with a decompression warning before allowing you to do it. Such as "DECOMPRESSION WARNING" "Are you sure? Yes/No"
It's even worse in the 600i, where the fore elevator has 2 buttons for the 2 decks and then just another one to lower the platform outside of the ship. If you're not wearing a space suit, which you usually aren't on a ship like this, which, btw, has a *bar*, so you're even dealing with intoxicated people, you're one click away from certain death.
@@AnonRanGER01 I mean if you're not wearing a suit on the 600i you're gambling with your life as that ship still has airless zones in it
@@Artemis0713 That's a bug that is going to be ironed out, while the "Oopsie, I'm suddenly in space"-death button is by design. Hopefully they'll put some more work into tings like this. There don't seem to be actual guidelines or design documents that dictate how doors and the like work in the first place, so every ship designer just did whatever they wanted, and they'll all need an overhaul eventually.
16:48 That shot with all those Origin ships lined up have me goossebumps.
I really like the 400i, and it gives me real hope for the ongoing 600i rework. If the manage to get this interieur in the 600, it's gonna be one hell of a ship.
Are they going to rework the 600i?
@@JohnVanderbeck yes, confirmed by devs, gold standard rework on the roadmap includes a slight rework.
When the portal to the bridge opened up, I gave an audible "ooh".
Amazing presentation of an impressive design.
I do get your point, some things need an improvment (Like UI, as you said)
But as years come by and new features get added it will get even harder and complex.
Corsair and Connie is basically it with maybe the msr, I'd imagine a lot of time is gonna be spent in this range with a lot of people flying ships around this size once stuff like the cutlass becomes too small for the universe
Needs a misc ship in freelancer style, a consolidated outland one would be great, an aegis Corsair competitor, maybe a multipurpose banu ship
a Lancer wit an actual captain's cabin i would take. but it would probably end up being like a 6-8 player ship. like how the lancer is already a 4 seater for some stupid reason.
bmm is very multipurpose and your forgetting the msr.
That shot of the Origin line up is just *chef's kiss*
CIG look at this beautiful 400i, it's time for a Connie rework - glorified corridors don't count as ships anymore
@@elise3455 Said it before, I'll say it again: The Connie's Merlin was a mistake.
CIG came out and said they are doing exactly that
they are doing a rework and i am sure it will be similiar, they plan on adding a med bay and making the cargo bay more usefull and fixing all the wasted space. they say the outside of the ship and the captains quarters will stay the same but the rest of the ship is getting a total overhaul...they probably watched morphs vid on it.
Your camera work and commentary is superb like usual. Thank you for creating and sharing these.
I was really hoping the video opened with "ARGO CARGO!" slogan again.
Great video as usual. There was almost a wallpaper moment when you had all the ships lined up towards the end.
The 400i compliments the 315p well for exploration imo. I can even imagine spending more time in it than the Carrack.
ok that is crazy! the carrack is just about the most usefull ship in the game but the 400i? oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
That scene at the end where you pan out of the cockpit glass was masterful, made me proud to be an owner of one of these beauties.
Was waiting for this (great quality as always!)
The ships are nice, but the passion in your narration and video editing is what makes these videos so awesome.
It is a very surprisingly well done ship that IMO is much more appealing than the 600i.
Nicely done Morph. You review has given me an even grater appreciation for a ship that I already enjoy owning. Thx
I only have a couple of nitpicks about the ship, but it is certainly my favorite ship so far.
1 - (which you brought up) the captain's bed should be bigger.
2 - the navigation lights on the winglets. They should change the starboard side lights to green.
3 - a way to remove or retract the upper rear turret as it blocks the panoramic view
4 - a variant that replaces the holotable with a hot tub, seating, or other type of luxury amenity.
Would love to see a bounty variant, change the escape pods for brigs, slightly bigger front guns change the holo table by an emp generator etc
I'll watch everyone else do a tour, but all I'm really waiting for is the architect review from morph. Thank you for yet another masterpiece my guy.
Hey Morph, the button for the cargo bay is on the wall next to that entry door. Its the bottom button. As a result, you shouldn't need to go into the cockpit to close the door when opening it from the inside. Otherwise, great video as always!
Paul Jones shared your video on Twitter!! Congratulations Brother.. and again, excellent work
The Reclaimer and Starfarer have exposed gravity generators, too, it's not just an Origin thing. Also, those component rooms are usable as cold storage for items that will spoil quickly.
How obvious are they though? Are they at the entrances of the ship?
You can tell New Rich types because their 400i component rooms are full of cabbage.

This series literally made me realise how interested I was in Architecture without even realising it for years
Love the long front end. Makes you feel like you're driving a big V12 grand tourer. Always wanted an Aston.
'Glass panels to showcase the high-end ship components'
A bit like how 80s high end sportscars, like the Lotus Esprit, had glass panels to show off their engine bays
The M50 has exactly that as well
Even in present day super and mega yachts, you sometimes have a glass corridors through the engine room. Some clients love to look at and show of, the devices and shiny piping.
(Engineers hate it though, 'cause they have to design the piping not only in a practical but also aesthetic manner)
Exactly what came to mind.
It's a big window in the side for your components to show off off RGB.
@@benjwgarner Except that it doesn't. All you see are white door panels. If you wanted to show it off like PC rig with a window, then you would need an option to lock the panels open.
I swear this series makes me want to go into either interior design or naval architecture, if only irl ships are as fun to design
well, about the grav generator.
As always I look forward to you professional reviews of SC. Thank you Morphologis.
I genuinely can't wait to sing "Life forms, you tiny little life forms" while sitting on the co-pilots seat.
You precious little life forms! Where are you?
I’d love to know how many people get this reference and can correlate it to the mention in this video.
@@ashleypierce8500 After Morph talked about the console looking like Data’s my emotion chip just activated and forced me to think about this. I doubt a lot of people understand it though.
Great review, as always Morphologis! Personally, I love the ship. Couldn't have told anyone exactly why before, but it all clicked for me while watching this. It just feels right inside.
Loving the space efficiency on this ship. I feel like the entire interior of the 400i would fit in the wasted space sections of the MSR.
I have an option to get one of them right now, which would you recommend?
I love the 400i :D
The only thing i do not like is that it is called precisely "the 400i", in terms of size it is more like the 600i than the 300i and for that reason it should be renamed as _The 500i_ , the true 400i should be a Cutlass size ship.
Now I wonder if there is gonna be a 500i
funny thing is i am pretty sure a solo run cutty would kick this pretty but useless ships ass. oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
Great tour, your pacing and process is fantastic.
Interior: gorgeous, damn near perfect, well thought out to the smallest detail
Exterior: funky looking proportions based on an old concept art
This is starting to feel like a pattern from CIG
oh it is pretty, but it is just a polished turd in reality. a ship for going on a picinic and that is about it.
Impressed you were able to get this up so quickly given how unstable wave 1 has been.
One day I hope CiG contacts Morph and asks him to design the inside of a ship. I want to see what his ideal interior would be for his dream ship.
This ship is rather intimate, I love how close and snug it feels.
So that is two ships with a temp feature.
ha, *coolest*
I'm glad you popped back in my recommended haven't seen a video from you I swear in years
