As reddit user muddledgarlic pointed out, this version (which is in C minor) might actually be the right one. Here's what he had to say: 'To test this I worked on the assumption that the lead synth sound is the DX7 ROM 2B "SYN-LEAD 5" preset high-passed. Certainly to my ears the preset is identical in both timbre and articulation. While the pitch of the note itself can't be used to determine the original recording speed, the vibrato that comes in on the longer held notes is contant in rate across the keyboard. By measuring the time taken for 20 cycles of the vibrato using a spectral image of TMS, and comparing that with the actual DX7 preset, I was able to determine that the rate of the vibrato matches when the speed of the recording is increased to place it in the key of C minor. For what it's worth - while uncommon - C minor is not an unknown key for rock songs. Eye of the Tiger (1982) is one obvious example, along with the song from Messerschmitt found by _Waves_ which comes from the same sort of scene as TMS. As for why this song is slow whereas the other tracks on the tape appear not to be... It's worth remembering that the other tracks would have been played back from officially-sourced recordings, while TMS would probably have been from a cassette supplied by the band. That cassette could have had any number of duplication problems that resulted in slow playback on the air. There is the possibility that TMS was deliberately slowed during mixing to get a certain sound, by no means an alien technique in the '70s and '80s. Quite a few of ABBA's earlier tracks were mastered in slightly shifted keys from the original master tape to alter the feel of the song, Honey Honey being one of them - originally recorded about a semitone lower than the released track. Nevertheless, I'm pretty confident that the track (or at the very least, the lead synth part) was recorded in the key of C minor.' But there are also contrary opinions that suggest B minor instead, which would make the 'regular version' closer to the correct one (just 20 cents too high). Check the reddit thread for the whole discussion and feel free to share your opinion: www.reddit.com/r/TheMysteriousSong/comments/qh77fi/im_pretty_sure_that_the_version_on_youtube_is_not/
Great analysis! Hey can you see if you can compare any Dx sound or techniques to that of those performed by the female Keyboardist of the group Forward Music Quintet. They are a Greek Dark Wave band who were friends with Alvin Dean , the strongest candidate for singer of this song. Several songs on their album have the same sound as like the wind and even the drumming sound the same. The drummer of Forward Music Quintet was also a friend and former band mate of Alvin Dean as well. Also, the baseline in this song has an early 1980's reggae guitar feel, and the bassist of Forward Music Quintet was a former bandmate of Alvin Dean's Bandmate in the group Statues in Motion. Lastly, Alvin Dean's Bandmate from statues in Motion claims that they did Like the Wind originally and had to exclude it from their premiere album. Clearly, Forward Music Quintet with Alvin Dean could have redone the song a few years later, possibly in 1984.
Thank you :) Now looking back at it after some time, I'm not sure if this was the right pitch either. But I highly doubt that the OG version is the right one. Either someone recorded it to make up that whole hoax and intentionally slowed it down/slowed down parts of it to make it more mysterious or unrecognizable or there is something wrong with that tape. Since there only seems to be one (or two?) copies of this song around, and no leads have turned up after years, I think the hoax theory is getting stronger by the day.
@@luc1264 It could be just a misadjusted motor in the tape recorder recording at too high speed. Or the tape deck on which the original tape was copied to the tape sent to the radio could be playing the original tape too slow. That's why the pitch would be uniformly lowered across the entire song, or perhaps, the entire tape.
@@luc1264 I think the recording has a little wow/flutter. It's not large enough to be outright audible, but it's there and because of it tiny individual sounds fall out of tune. That's what makes the song sound right and wrong at the same time. Personally I think the vocals on your video sound more natural than on the original recording.
@@luc1264 EXACTLY! That's why the original seems too weird to translate into lyrics and may cause confusion. And i know that many keep the recording pitch as the original especially because of the Statues in Motion vocalist but this video version sounds someone completely different.
I agree that this pitch-corrected version sounds much more natural and much less eerie and "otherworldly". As a sidenote, I've dug out some of my old audio cassettes from the 80s that got a lot of play back in the day, and the songs played now do sound weird, they're slightly drawn out and in a mildly lower pitch. This might be because my ancient cassette player is spinning more slowly than it used to, but it's not equally noticeable an all tapes so I guess it's also possible that some of the tapes got stretched a bit. Maybe something like this happened with this song, but since we never heard the original, it was not obvious we were listening to a degraded version.
After listening to the actual song, it's kind of crazy how close to the actual pitch/cadence this version is. Possibly the radio release wasn't a demo at all and was in fact just slowed due to the tape being played incorrectly.
This feels like the end credits to the mystery of this song, y'know? Like, if we ever find who made the song, and get to listen to it the way it was originally intended, it would feel amazing. The mystery will finally be solved.
I feel like the end credits to this would be either a live performance of it from the original group (which is unlikely, but not impossible) or the master tape used to mix it.
Or used as the intro to an action show about something. Maybe to a dark cartoon about a man fused with another man fusion dance style saving the world from a Vile Demon
Well done! As a cassette enthusiast, this sounds so much more faithful to what it probably sounded like close to its original recording. Again, well done!
@@CicariEnterprise I think this is close. After reading your comment and relistening, I think it's instead "Like the wind / You're going somewhere" with a little bit of slurring. This makes the next lyric make more sense, since if you're going somewhere you could take a companion with you, in this case a smile. It would also recontextualise things slightly, in that the first verse deals with arrival (you *came* running), this verse deals with departure, and the chorus deals with both (Check it *in* / Check it *out*) I still don't know how to map this to the rest of the lyrics, if they're even right. Which I think they might be after 2:22, given that "summer" could again be "somewhere", and the lyrics don't seem to be repeating. Really glad that whoever made MyHouse included this song in the map, it really deserves the recognition.
@fast boi It is odd they included Like The Wind, as the song doesn't really seem to relate, especially since its only from that one radio in the crashed car. But also, it's a good song so i don't mind
After listening very carefully to this song in various video and audio editing programs, the exact lyrics of this song by the mysterious singer, in my opinion, are this: Like the wind You came here running Take the consequence of living There's no space There's no tomorrow There's no senseful 'munication Check it in, check it out Or the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway In the subways of your mind' Like the wind You're going somewhere let a smile be your companion There's no place And there's no sorrow In the young and restless dreamer Check it in, check it out 'Cause the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind' (Instrumental) Check it in, check it out 'Cause the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway In the subways of your mind' Check it in, check it out It's the summer blues Check in it, check it out 'Cause we're leaving you Check it in, check it out It's the summer blues Check in it, check it out 'Cause we're leaving you Check it in, check it out It's the summer blues Check in it, check it out 'Cause we're leaving you Check it in, check it out It's the summer blues Check in it, check it out 'Cause we're leaving you (Song ends)
So, there are 2 versions of this song Like the Wind: -Just begins, no intro. -Lower pitch -Taped by Darius S. The Sun will never Shine: -Higher pitch -Fade in -Posted by a german channel -Original radio transmission
The bizarre feeling of having already seen this song but in fact I didn't even exist at that time, it's so great that it makes me shiver listening to it
In case you haven't already seen, the band that performed this song, as well as the actual title of the song, have been found. The band is called FEX (just like it's spelled, and not something like "ef-ex" or "ef-ee-ex") and the song's title is Subways Of Your Mind .
It was an old cassette tape, after all. These things don't last very long if used and even if you stash them away somewhere, they are prone to degradation due to temperature changes and such. Not many people in Germany have the luxury of an air-conditioned home, even today.
I am by no stretch of the imagination a music major, but I've heard the key of B version and this version. This one just SOUNDS right. The key sounds -- and feels -- more natural, as does the tempo. Even the voice is more "right"! Awesome work, and I'm glad I found this. :)
It does indeed. At first, I thought this could be a song from Statues in Motion, as they have a few songs where the voice sound similar. But now... It sounds more like a mix of Bernard Sumner and Dave Gahan...
I definitely agree with this. In the original if you listen closely to the bass guitar its almost ever so slightly off tempo with the guitar and synth, but here the instruments sound near perfect together.
What if the band behind this is actually a really famous one (ex: Survivor, Europe, etc) and they made an inside joke and pretend that they don’t know the song when in reality they are the ones who made it and they are laughing their butts off at us trying to find every single detail of this song?

The original recorder admitted that not only did he record this froma broadcast, but then he further degraded it by trsnsferring it to another tape. This version is my absolute favorite! Your lyrics written here make the most sense. Weird that the original sounded like "take me in, take me out, "but I can hear "check it in" so clearly on here. I am still convinced this is Alvin Dean. I could not find any records on George/Alvin, even from Australia. It is just so cool that I love this song more, every time I hear it! It reminds me so much of the music I loved in the 80s.
Definitely its Alvin Dean, Listen to the Song Get That Jive by the australian band Dragon, that catchy riff is the same as the Mysterious song catchy riff. This means the person must have been of Australian descent.
This is the best remaster I've heard of this song and although there's no confirmation that they're the *right* lyrics, the ones you chose are my favorite interpretation. Fantastic job! I I just know that this mystery will be solved...
One thing I'll say is that I have no idea why anyone thinks the song isn't all in English, as it very clearly is. The lyrics here may not be *exactly* what they are, but it sounds pretty close to me. The singer's definitely singing in English the entire time, just with a subtle accent.
I deleted my first comment after having listened to this multiple times and here is my attempt at an analysis. I also posted this as a comment to NAETE’s video. The first verse goes, Like the wind you came here running, take the consequence of living* There’s no space, there’s no tomorrow, There’s no sent communication. * In the subtitles it says “leaving” but “living” makes more sense IMO. This reads like one being born into something where they can’t escape but they have to make do. They also can’t tell anyone about their discomfort of the situation. This fits the feelings of many young people in the GDR in the 1980s, wanting to leave but not being able to, and even talking about it being dangerous. The chorus goes, Check it in, check it out or the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind This is the way you had to practise “Doublethink”, pretend to be a loyal socialist citizen but maintaining your true personality, always being careful your disguise wouldn’t fall, but at the same time keeping you sanity. The second verse goes, Like the wind you’re born in summer, let a smile be your companion! There’s no place and there’s no sorrow, Hear the young and restless dreamer. This emphasises this doublethink, and our way to live with the system. We had something called “niche society” where we had a more or less stable peer group and our hobbies, where we disappeared from the official stage of everyday socialist life and faded into our own little worlds. So, I really think this song was written by an East-German indie band (the arrangement really sounds very clearly GDR-ish) and they managed to sneak this into the hands of a journalist working for the NDR, who then had it played on that show. With this lyrics, you would have never got that through the censorship, let alone published officially. It might have even been possible to face punishment by the state. This explains that no band name is known, because the Stasi (East-German secret service) was also active in the West and they monitored West-German radio broadcasts. It would have been dangerous for the band to be correctly credited. Today, either the former band members do not exist anymore, or they don’t know of this phenomenon (I also was today years old and came here from a documentary about the “My House” Doom map), or they do know and find it funny how the whole internet tries to solve this puzzle and nobody has come near so far.
@@luc1264 I had some more thoughts about that and I can also guess how the quality of the recording came to be. The music is quite ok for an obvious amateur recording, but the singing is very muffled. The music sounds as if it was recorded in a studio and the vocals in a garage or cellar. The care which had to be taken if you did something the government didn't like is an important piece of the puzzle. The music was obviously played on professional equipment, other comments suggest a DX7, which was very hard to come by for amateur musicians in the West, and nearly unreachable for Eastern musicians. However, there were synths that could produce similar sounds made by East-German companies Vermona and Weltmeister. But these were not easy to come by by amateurs, too. I think the musicians (if more than one) were studio musicians who played the music for pop singers. The state-run studios did have some beefier equipment. So there was a possibility to get to play on professional equipment, but you couldn't record lyrics like these in an official studio, the next day the Stasi would turn up and take you with them, or if you were lucky, you would only get banned from making music ever again. On the other side, Reel-To-Reel tape was quite popular in the GDR as its quality was better than cassettes and the decks were cheaper than cassette recorders and they could be easily modified to allow overdubbing by just shutting off the erase head, so you could record on already-recorded tape without erasing it first. So, my guess is: The song was played as an instrumental only piece after official work, recorded to a reel-to-reel-tape, and then, the singer went home, set up the tape deck with an amateur microphone in his cellar or garage and sang over it. Private rooms were sometimes surveyed by the Stasi but mostly only when they had already been suspicious in the first place, so most flats, houses, cellars, garages were rather safe if nobody managed to listen closely and report you. But since the song is sung in English which officially was a rather unpopular language in the GDR, and the type of music was special to young people of that time, most of these "private informers" didn't care and just said, "Oh, that's just this English modern music nobody understands, never mind".

@@lucg4005MO, this is about youngsters in East Germany who are sad about not being able to leave, and they are destined to get along somehow. I think “take the consequence of living” is correct, this fits better than “leaving”. The arrangement fits the mood of the lyrics that way, and it really sounds East-German.
I honestly lead more to the term “Let it in (jet?) it out, it’s the real you”, as in whenever the implied person “lets it in” (as in taking/inhaling something, like a drug), they turn into their “real”self.
@@christopherjove7035It was actually a song that was almost used for a movie called The Final Terror. A band called The Unfaithful Deceits wrote and produced the song, but a last minute change left the song unused. A few months later, the band played the song in a few bars, and apparently someone who worked with a radio station was at the bar. They got to talking, and the song was eventually played over the air one time for that station. It somehow made its way to the station the song was originally recorded on. My source: trust me bro
It's weird what you notice in vids like this. I thought that looked like Betty White's face on one of the book covers and, sure enough, found a book by her entitled "Betty White In Person" that matches the one in the vid.
you definitely gave this song some of the most accurate lyrics yet, along with that the C minor tone sounds far more natural, overall, I think this is as close as were gonna get to the original vision of the song, at least until its rediscovered who made it
Even the lyrics feel like the fit into the mystery and melancholy of this song. A puzzle whose answer was never made. A prize door blocked off forever by Unmovable boulders, forever hiding something out of reach. Resonating with the feeling of missing the final key, the piece that solves it all. But I guess the answer is gone like the wind…
In 1986 i become a member in a local synth/pop band named "The Wild Werewolves". The group had recently changed name from "The Sugar Sweeties". Anyway i played synth which was a big thing at the time. We mostly did own songs but also some covers. In 1988 two members left the band and two new came into the group. The one i will focus on had the name Martin Kott. The first name is normal but the second was abit odd. He also started playing synth at the start so it was me and he who stood together. Martin never told much about himself but i found it he had lived in east germany since 1979 and pretty much until 1987 or 1988. In early may 1989 Martin wanted to make 3 songs that had a story line through all three songs. The others in th group said he could do that and the first song he did was "Ride the wind" but in Swedish and with the title "Som en vind" which translates to "Like a wind". The version he made sounded like the Pitched corrected one but was much longer and started with a howling wind before the song came on. The lyrics in the song are not the same as the uploaded version here. The song is about a man who is searching for a girl that he met and later she dissapears. Theres a forest called "The black forest" where people get in but no one gets out and the man thinks the girl had vanished there. So he´s searching everywhere for her but cant find any trace at all. In the second track he made the man gets into the woods because he´s hiding from a dangerous rain and he see lots of zombies in the wood but the girl is not among them. In the third track the man dies from an attack from the zombies and meet his girl in heaven. We recorded the theee songs on a tape as always and we were happy with the results. I thought the forest could be about the berlin wall and Martin didnt say it was that but hinted also it could be. The group split around 1992 and some tapes were saved but not all. I dint think very much about the band until i saw on UA-cam about this mysterious song. I listened to the song and remembered that we did a swedish version of the song. Unfortenly Martin died around 2005 or 2006 and i have searched about if he had been in some bands in germany before he came to Sweden but have found nothing that indicates that. None of us that was in the group knows if Martin himself had written these songs or if they were covers. If he had written them its very strange that only "Ride the wind" has surfaced. The tapes are unfortenly in very bad shape so they sound horrible and i havent found the exact tape with these three melodies. I will continoue search and will post if we find the actual tape and rip it to mp3 file. I wanted to tell about it even if it may not help to solve the mystery. Maybe someone out there know more about Martin Kott than i did.

How's it even possible that this amount of musicianship and hard work went into writing, composing, arranging, rehearsing, playing, recording and mixing the song, and no one seems to know who made it?
Good question :) Unfortunately, even today there are thousands if not millions of songs that sound amazing and had a lot of work put into them, yet they fly under the radar and get a couple thousand views at best. Now imagine the same thing in the 80s without the internet and it doesn't even seem that far fetched anymore.
Possible Lyrics: Like the wind You came in runnin' Take the consequence of leavin' There's no space There's no tomorrow There's no sense from (for) humiliation Check it in, check it out The sun don't ever shine A lonely way In the subways of your mind Like the wind, You've gone/you're goin' somewhere Let the smile be your companion There's no place And there's no sorrow In the young and restless dreamer Check it in, check it out the sun don't ever shine A lonely way In the subways of your mind [INSTRUMENTAL] Check it in, check it out the sun don't ever shine A lonely way In the subways of your mind Check it in, check it out It's the sound of bloom Take it in, check it out It's rippin' you Let me know :)
My interpretation was this: Like the wind You came here runnin' Take the consequence of leavin' There's no space There's no tomorrow There's no sent communication Check it in, Check it out Or the sun won't ever shine And a long way away In the subways of your mind Like the wind You're going somewhere Let a smile be your companion There's no place And there's no sorrow In the young and restless dreamer Check it in, check it out Or the sun won't ever shine And a long dirty way In the subways of your mind (instrumental) Check it in, Check it out Or the sun won't ever shine And a long way away In the subways of your mind Check it in, Check it out It's the summer blues Tear it in, tear it out 'Cause I'm leavin' you (x4)
Maybe get someone like Ed Sheeran to cover it and release it as a single. Whoever wrote it is bound to sue him and ðen we’ll know who it was. Win/win 😊
Great remaster, very neat! Thanks! And I want to share my perception of the lyrics of the song: I have already listened to several remasters many times, as well as a new version of the film, and now I hear it everywhere "BETTER KNOWN, anyway, in the subways of your mind", although I have not seen such a version on the Internet. Also, English is not my native language. Does this text make sense? But the "paranoid" version is rejected by my brain, and even more so any "there are ..", since the first sound is clearly from the letter "b" or "p". However, the following "long dirty/lonely/only way" fits well as a lyric. Easy to get wrong :) And at the end, where many people hear "is it really you/ leaving you", in one of the refrains a sillable is clearly heard - 's' both times (like "blues / exuse") - and if we assume that the refrains are identical, and at the beginning 's' is just swallowed - the "... real/feel/(smth) excuse" version is much more likely. And the weirdest part is with "tear it in/out" at the end, like it's two different words. Something like : Check it in, check it out (...summer blues) [take it in, check it out] [Tear it in, shake it out] (...real excuse) The difference of words is especially distinct on the second refrain, or maybe it is only in even refrains??? Difficult! :) p.s.: sorry for the auto translation :)

Really interesting story of this song :D For me the vocal sounds a bit like a certain Polish vocalist - Kaptain Nemo (Bogdan Tadeusz Gajkowski) :D Kapitan Nemo - Wideonarkomania or Kapitan Nemo - Jeszcze Tylko Chwila. Of course, the voice is not identical, but it has something similar in my opinion and the timbre of the voice itself can change over time. In 1982, Captain Nemo was 32 - so that would fit too :)
It's odd, the vocals on this versions feel correct, yet the synth sounds way too high. The opposite of course is true for the original. Almost makes me wonder if the singer's voice was intentionally pitched down in the original song.
For some reason, even this little pitch change also changes the tone of the song. Not by much, but this version sounds more nostalgic instead of depressing. Maybe it’s the video that’s giving me the impression, but idk.

I say speed it up by an additional 4 percent. Makes the fourth chord of the song E. If we argue that the fourth chord is the key of the song, it would put the song in E, and the chords would be vi, IV, V, I. E is a super common key for guitar music. Also, adjusting the song to that speed makes the singer sound more natural.
This is my take on the lyrics. I hear "Check it in, check it out" said differently when the chorus repeats itself towards the end of the song, and I tried to maintain the melancholic and somewhat bittersweet yet still hopeful feeling the song gives, basing my take around a theme of "No matter where you are, what you're doing, or whatever walk of life you come from, whether it's adventurous and exciting or mundane and simple, just keep moving like the wind, and live to the fullest." This feels like the appropriate key to me - doesn't feel off-putting even mildly and the lyrics are more clear than the original version. ---------------------- Like the wind, you came running Take the consequence of living There's no space, there's no tomorrow There's no sense communicating Checking in, checking out 'Cause the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway In the subways of your mind Like the wind, you're gone in summer Let a smile be your companion There's no place, and there's no sorrow Hear the young and restless dreaming Checking in, checking out 'Cause the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway In the subways of your mind Checking in, checking out 'Cause the sun will never shine Paranoid anyway In the subways of your mind Checking in, checking out 'Cause the summer blew Let it in, take it out Just believe in you Check it in, check it out It's the summer blues Let it in, let it out It's still leading you Check it in, check it out It's the summer blues Let it in, let it out It's still leading you
I feel like this demo could sit somewhere nicely between Gary Numan and perhaps Gene Loves Jezebel? The vocals sound a little bit like Numan and then the instrumentation sounds like something GLJ would do.
Maybe this pitch is more realistic. 2021 ver. found by Lydia may pitched down that the whole song starts 2 sound like a Goth rock from 1988. But judging by da atypical DX synth 4 goth and obvious punk experience of singer plus non reverbed guitars - maybe tms should be play'd faster much like an indie of Rough Trade label. On da other hand some bands from da 1st half of 80's who have a lot of unreleased demos 'n' sound like 2021 ver. - slow and goth. 4 example Red Lorry Yellow Lorry or Remain In Silence or Message (Crazy Garden).
As reddit user muddledgarlic pointed out, this version (which is in C minor) might actually be the right one. Here's what he had to say:
'To test this I worked on the assumption that the lead synth sound is the DX7 ROM 2B "SYN-LEAD 5" preset high-passed.
Nevertheless, I'm pretty confident that the track (or at the very least, the lead synth part) was recorded in the key of C minor.'
But there are also contrary opinions that suggest B minor instead, which would make the 'regular version' closer to the correct one (just 20 cents too high).
Check the reddit thread for the whole discussion and feel free to share your opinion:

This feels like the right pitch and the wrong pitch at the same time
Thank you :) Now looking back at it after some time, I'm not sure if this was the right pitch either.
@@luc1264 What do you think the correct pitch might be now?
@@luc1264Can you make a new version?
@@luc1264 I think the recording has a little wow/flutter. It's not large enough to be outright audible, but it's there and because of it tiny individual sounds fall out of tune. That's what makes the song sound right and wrong at the same time. Personally I think the vocals on your video sound more natural than on the original recording.
It's just gut feeling but in this pitch, the music feels more right. The vocals seem more clearer, like the vocalist really has this natural pitch.
I had that same feeling and in the original version, the vocals sound kind of unnaturally low to me (which has been disputed by others).
@@luc1264 EXACTLY! That's why the original seems too weird to translate into lyrics and may cause confusion.
And i know that many keep the recording pitch as the original especially because of the Statues in Motion vocalist but this video version sounds someone completely different.
I agree this version sounds much better
Is this Spandau Ballet??
I listened to a flock of seagulls and they potentially could have made TMS
I just hope that whoever made this beautiful song is still with us today.. it's pretty old after all.
@@jamesfawbush1437 they do kind of sound alike, I ran is a banger
I feel like the end credits to this would be either a live performance of it from the original group (which is unlikely, but not impossible) or the master tape used to mix it.

My interpretation of the lyric is “like the wind/ you’re gone in summer” because it makes more sense and is part of the melancholy vibe of the song
"you’re gone in somewhere" , like the wind... the wind goes in somewhere
@@CicariEnterprise I think this is close. After reading your comment and relistening, I think it's instead "Like the wind / You're going somewhere" with a little bit of slurring.
This makes the next lyric make more sense, since if you're going somewhere you could take a companion with you, in this case a smile.
It would also recontextualise things slightly, in that the first verse deals with arrival (you *came* running), this verse deals with departure, and the chorus deals with both (Check it *in* / Check it *out*)
I still don't know how to map this to the rest of the lyrics, if they're even right.

Wow this sounds incredible and so realistic, really provided the sense that the old tape was played back at the wrong speed and pitch
Thanks a lot! Glad you dig it :)
I agree! I wasn’t sure at first, but listening all the way through, I agree. Just “feels” better all around. :)
I've done a bit of vocal recording and completely agree. It sounds the most natural of the versions I've heard.
Someone suggested it could be Alphaville
What if that's the reason the voice and lyrics are so mysterious

One thing I'll say is that I have no idea why anyone thinks the song isn't all in English, as it very clearly is. The lyrics here may not be *exactly* what they are, but it sounds pretty close to me. The singer's definitely singing in English the entire time, just with a subtle accent.

Subways of your mind by a band called FEX
I deleted my first comment after having listened to this multiple times and here is my attempt at an analysis. I also posted this as a comment to NAETE’s video.
The first verse goes,
Like the wind you came here running, take the consequence of living*
There’s no space, there’s no tomorrow,
There’s no sent communication.
The chorus goes,
Check it in, check it out or the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
This is the way you had to practise “Doublethink”, pretend to be a loyal socialist citizen but maintaining your true personality, always being careful your disguise wouldn’t fall, but at the same time keeping you sanity.
The second verse goes,
Like the wind you’re born in summer, let a smile be your companion!
There’s no place and there’s no sorrow,
Hear the young and restless dreamer.
Thanks for the detailed analysis! Some great thoughts in there.
That was my first thought, that it was an East-German band. It very much has a "behind the iron curtain" vibe to it.
Do you have something for the final chorus with the changes of words? Edit: realised this is an analysis, not lyrics finding?

I wonder if anyone’s done a breakdown of what they think the lyrics mean.
I hear in the end "Check it in, Let it out" , "Let it in, Check it out" he mix those verses.

"Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind" that's beautiful
at the end rather than “reading” i think he’s singing “leaving”, as in “i’m leaving you”, it makes more sense to me
Why is this actually fire😭😭😭
Shout out to Fex
i can and will accept this as the official song and music video
edit: it was found but this is still good
Even the lyrics feel like the fit into the mystery and melancholy of this song. A puzzle whose answer was never made. A prize door blocked off forever by
Unmovable boulders, forever hiding something out of reach. Resonating with the feeling of missing the final key, the piece that solves it all. But I guess the answer is gone like the wind…
Best version
Maybe someone out there know more about Martin Kott than i did.
please post all the tapes you have/can find from back there , even if none of them are "like the wind" i like old music
Any updates?
This is real? The singer of this song is real Martin Kott???
If you have tapes with his voice/your instumental choices that might help too!!
Any updates?
It really does sound like Depche Mode, and since David Gahan became singer in 1980......
Well looks like this was the closest to the original in the end
The verses are blessed with the best melodie I heard in the last decades...
I totally agree. This track has a very powerful melody. It is one of the most powerful in this genre.
Great Work Dude! I was Looking for a restored Version when this popped Up. Great Work! But your Download Link Downloads a distorted Version That is both sped Up and down at The Same time
Thanks for the kind words. Gonna have to check that later, thanks for letting me know!
Goddamn is this a vibe.
Pretty fucking cool, this is the first time I've heard the lyrics clearly. You don't happen to have an HQ download link, do you?
I don't know what happened there. Thanks again for the love and here's another try:
ufile io/0pkymjcs
Do you have any new link for it?
Does anyone else thin that on 0:50 it sound more like "And an only way" rather than "paranoid away"?
Possible Lyrics:
Like the wind
You came in runnin'
Take the consequence of leavin'
There's no space
There's no tomorrow
There's no sense from (for) humiliation
Check it in, check it out
The sun don't ever shine
A lonely way
In the subways of your mind
Like the wind,
You've gone/you're goin' somewhere
Let the smile be your companion
There's no place
And there's no sorrow
In the young and restless dreamer
Check it in, check it out
the sun don't ever shine
A lonely way
In the subways of your mind
[INSTRUMENTAL]
Check it in, check it out
the sun don't ever shine
A lonely way
In the subways of your mind
Check it in, check it out
It's the sound of bloom
Take it in, check it out
It's rippin' you
Let me know :)
io capisco *there's no senseful communication*
My interpretation was this:
Like the wind
You came here runnin'
Take the consequence of leavin'
There's no space
There's no tomorrow
There's no sent communication
Check it in, Check it out
Or the sun won't ever shine
And a long way away
In the subways of your mind
Like the wind
You're going somewhere
Let a smile be your companion
There's no place
And there's no sorrow
In the young and restless dreamer
Check it in, check it out
Or the sun won't ever shine
And a long dirty way
In the subways of your mind
(instrumental)
Check it in, Check it out
Or the sun won't ever shine
And a long way away
In the subways of your mind
Check it in, Check it out
It's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out
'Cause I'm leavin' you (x4)
Che bello vedere altri italiani che guardano questi video
Thanks, I personally am not good at hearing lyrics. You're probably more accurate than the English Sub-titles (turn them On to compare) and 🙂
@@quagmiretv2514ci sono altri Italiani interessati a questo mistero!! Quindi non sono l'unico sfigato😂😂
Maybe get someone like Ed Sheeran to cover it and release it as a single. Whoever wrote it is bound to sue him and ðen we’ll know who it was. Win/win 😊
Great remaster, very neat! Thanks!
And I want to share my perception of the lyrics of the song:
I have already listened to several remasters many times, as well as a new version of the film, and now I hear it everywhere
"BETTER KNOWN, anyway, in the subways of your mind",
although I have not seen such a version on the Internet. Also, English is not my native language. Does this text make sense?
But the "paranoid" version is rejected by my brain, and even more so any "there are ..", since the first sound is clearly from the letter "b" or "p". However, the following "long dirty/lonely/only way" fits well as a lyric. Easy to get wrong :)
And at the end, where many people hear "is it really you/ leaving you", in one of the refrains a sillable is clearly heard - 's' both times (like "blues / exuse") - and if we assume that the refrains are identical, and at the beginning 's' is just swallowed - the "... real/feel/(smth) excuse" version is much more likely.
And the weirdest part is with "tear it in/out" at the end, like it's two different words. Something like :
Check it in, check it out
(...summer blues)
[take it in, check it out]
[Tear it in, shake it out]
(...real excuse)
The difference of words is especially distinct on the second refrain, or maybe it is only in even refrains??? Difficult! :)
p.s.: sorry for the auto translation :)
We seriously need the official lyrics for this song.
ua-cam.com/video/-7dWvCkceto/v-deo.html - I hope, this helps you understand lyrics better.
I've always heard 'along and away, in the subways of your mind'
What "film"?
at this point idc about who record i just care that this is my new favourite song
It was found! (Fex - Subways of your mind)
It's "Tear it in, Tear it out" right before "Cause I'm reading you"!
Like the wind you came here runnin'
Take the consequence of leavin'
There's no space
There's no tomorrow
There's no sent communication
Check it in, check it out or the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
Like the wind you're gonna suffer
Let a smile be your companion
There's no place
And there's no sorrow
In the young and restless dreamin'
Check it in, check it out or the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
Check it in, check it out or the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway in the subways of your mind
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's the real excuse
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's the real excuse
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's the real excuse
Check it in, check it out, it's the summer blues
Tear it in, tear it out, it's the real excuse
Check it in, ...
In 1982, Captain Nemo was 32 - so that would fit too :)
great work with the dx7!
This is what people hear when they say they dont care for lyrics and only focus on the production/instruments.
This feels right and i don't know why.
The song is “Subways of Your Mind” by FEX.
0:37 There's no sense of communication
It's odd, the vocals on this versions feel correct, yet the synth sounds way too high. The opposite of course is true for the original. Almost makes me wonder if the singer's voice was intentionally pitched down in the original song.
Nice work. Where's the music video taken from? It's very suitable. I imagine it's a German movie
Thank you. The footage I used was taken from a Gus Van Sant movie called Drugstore Cowboy.
For some reason, even this little pitch change also changes the tone of the song. Not by much, but this version sounds more nostalgic instead of depressing. Maybe it’s the video that’s giving me the impression, but idk.
This sounds better and probably that was how the song originally sounded like
I was thinking the band a flock of seagulls made it potentially
I Agree!
@@jamesfawbush1437funny, THIS Song popped up in the Video feed when I was looking for the Flock of Seagulls' song, "Wishing" . I think you're right, but seems they would've taken credit for it if it was theirs! 👍 😄
The original version sounds spooky as hell compared to this
How many musicians and bands made demo tapes or discs of original material that sank without trace? Must be thousands.
Yeah that could very well be the case. But since no one has come forward to this day, we can't know for sure.
Play the song in Gb minor, BPM at 138, sounds alot more natural. Song length at about 2:47. 🙂
Nice remaster.
Happiness must be fought for
Sometimes happiness is in the small things that we take for granted. Being surrounded by people that love you and having peace of mind. But I agree, when the time comes where we have to fight for what's important to us, we better be ready.
@@luc1264 true but I was actually making a reference to something related to the song I agree tho
@@flyingcow8171 Haha yeah, I was just rambling. What did you mean by the way?
@@luc1264 it was just a reference to a popular user made doom map called my house at some point in the map both the text “happiness must be fought for” is seen and this song played
I'd have to try that myself, but your reasoning definitely makes sense! Thanks for pointing this out.
----------------------
Like the wind, you came running
Take the consequence of living
There's no space, there's no tomorrow
There's no sense communicating
Checking in, checking out
'Cause the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway
In the subways of your mind
Like the wind, you're gone in summer
Let a smile be your companion
There's no place, and there's no sorrow
Hear the young and restless dreaming
Checking in, checking out
'Cause the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway
In the subways of your mind
Checking in, checking out
'Cause the sun will never shine
Paranoid anyway
In the subways of your mind
Checking in, checking out
'Cause the summer blew
Let it in, take it out
Just believe in you
Check it in, check it out
It's the summer blues
Let it in, let it out
It's still leading you
Check it in, check it out
It's the summer blues
Let it in, let it out
It's still leading you
I feel like this demo could sit somewhere nicely between Gary Numan and perhaps Gene Loves Jezebel? The vocals sound a little bit like Numan and then the instrumentation sounds like something GLJ would do.
I still prefer this version, i feel like the lofi quality is part of the song, kinda sounds like a John Maus track
when i played this my monitor flashed random colours for a good minute even with my pc turned off dear god
This version sounds right and real. Great work, Thanks!!
Amazing!
FOUND!!
Subway Of Your Mind - FEX
I can't lie... not knowing where this song came from actually gives it w mysterious charm I can't pit my finger on
For what it’s worth my dad said it reminded him of old commercials they would make in the 80s
I guess everyone knows now the song is subways of your mind by FEX
what if you isolate the vocals and run them through a speech-to-text program?
Imagine if some people will come out and say: wow, I have listened to this song in my dreams before finding out that it really exists
