Dylan, I will miss seeing you hammer past me down the Power line this year while on my motorcycle. Kick ass this year, and this will be your best finish to date. TRUST IT
I wanna see Dylan do a 3T Exploro Extrema Italia w/ suspension fork & big ass Race Kings or Thunder Burts mounted to a set of 3T Discus 45|40’s or Light Bicycle WG44’s.
I'd do a dropper post because high speed descents on trails with road bars is sketchy AF. If you lower your seat, you can get a better angle of grip on the bars and brakes and then have confidence to go faster.
DJ in the house! I couldn't click fast enough. On a side note, sick work station for the bike make over. With my luck, I would have dropped a crucial bolt off the balcony that would have halted the project.
Lol...I'm one of those "old guys" & you will be one day 😮 glad to see I'm not the only one challenged with a rebuild.... Rebuilt my Diverge to a 1x12 drive train GRX, added a dropper post, new Hunt wheels 😊
Give the people a DJ Leadville bike build and the people season it with salt 🧂 Excited to see what he can pull off this year, and what the next iteration of "fastest bike" comes next. Who knows, we might be riding drop bar unicycles by 2030 🎉
American cycling maxim - always use the most impressive number: climbing - measured in feet, miles measured in kms, weight savings - measured in grams, total weight - measured in pounds. I vote we start talking about moving times in seconds and bike weights in stones
Older dude here, still flexible enough to slam the stem-just had to go from a 58 to a 61 frame, and from cinelli del Mundo’s to a compact bar. Back to 38cm width, same as I was running in 1985. 34s on the track bike…
One point of reference; I've got Jesse's old Epic WC frame now, built up drop bar... 21.55lbs with Ready to roll with XTR pedals, cages, Quarq PM, and Garmin mount. I might swap out the Brain fork in favor of a Sid Ultimate 100mm 3 position, which would put it under 21lbs...
I just came here to say your bike makes my back hurt, hahaha. Also I love Frankenstein bikes and this is one, a really bougie nice one but still has bolts in its neck.
I have the OG Eggbeaters from 2003 and haven't serviced them. They still work well. I have around 10,000 miles on them, probably what Dylan puts on in a year.
Slammed -17 stems used to be a low as I could get my front-end. A 130 x -20 SL-K carbon stem felt like a noddle to me after years on an EC-90 130 x -10. Then I discovered Giant Contact and Deda team stems in -20 for getting lower. Beats changing framesets for a shorter headtube with my budget. AUD110 for a Deda Zero 100 140 x-20stem is good in my book. I also run Chinese sourced Cervelo AB-04 bars to max out my aero front-end adjustability factor as well. I hope that Gemini supported that failure?
Great video, would you mind sharing what adapter you used to mount the flat mount disc brake to the Fox 32 posts.? Wolftooth make an adapter but it is too deep for the Fox 32.
At the end of the video when they were riding they said they were riding in Breckenridge. Either way since Dylan's here for Leadville they definitely filmed somewhere close to there
With all these drop-bar XC bike builds lately I'm wondering (especially since Dylan used to ride Niners) Has any of you (Bicycle Station or Dylan) ridden a Niner MCR RDO? What keeps them from being more popular? Poor execution on the concept? Weight?(I hear they're heavy) Geometry Preference?
They are heavy for a gravel bike, but not for a MTB . My MCR is 24lb 2oz and that includes pedals, a dropper, frame pump, 3 bottle cages and a element bolt. Oh, and Onyx hubs, they’re heavy, but I love them 😝 More significantly tire clearance is limited. A 29 x 2.0” RaceKing is max for the back, but the front fork determines the front tire size. I’m running one Mullet now with a 27.2 x 2.2” RaceKing on a 30mm ID rim rear, and a 29 x 2.3” CrossKing on the rear.
I got motion sick from the camera swinging around and had to quit watching. It was interesting material and I would have liked to keep watching but please keep the camera still!

What a sick collaboration, I didn't know I'd enjoy you two together!!
Needed some more "dangs" from Chase
Very nice ride
Love this collaboration, actually.
I shake too when I hold the bike scale

That hits deep.
That's them cyclist arms!
If you're shaking that bad and over 29 yoa, you should get tested for Parkinson's asap.

Well done gents. No doubt will be a very fast set up.
Great vlog, always good to watch bikers thinking outside the normal box
Great video. I really enjoyed this chill video with Dylan talking about bikes! Awesome guys.

Awesome! The Bicycle Station and Dylan Johnson !!!!
Super sick build… DJ bringing the alchemy… good luck at Leadville
Have been looking at my 2015 epic s-works with one piece stem and bar eyes recently and up pops Dylan with the evolution!
Sweet build. Good luck in the race!

Remember when GCN did an april fools video of a full sus on dropbars? It seems Dylan took it seriously
I did this to a Santa Cruz Chameleon, used a Lefty fork and a suspension dropper post. I ride it way more often now than when it was conventional.
This Video is so chilled, watching it felt like a meditation for 18 min🙏 Dig deep Dylan and go for top 5 in Leadville🚴🔥
I love your mechanics dry sense of humor😂😂 oh and yes nice bike by the way and good luck at Leadville🎉🎉🎉
That was such a chill to watch

Great build. Now we just need someone to design a suspension lockout lever to fit drop bars.
If you find a way to do the build, do a vid!
I swapped Ti axles and ceramic balls into XTR 970 pedals a few years back. What a difference! I've done the same for SP Zeros too.
"With the... DURA-CHI pedals" is hilarious hahahahahahaha
I think the other dude is actually just the inner monologue that goes inside Dylan´s head all the time.
Great build 👌👏
Got a turner czar im finishing up into a full suss gravel bike.. so rad
lookin good man
Idk what paint theme was for the bike but allied makes something special.

Currently I am researching how to rebuild eggbeaters because mine too have been never serviced.
damn, those reversed fork stanchions actually look sick af
And the old guy here with the sore back cheers on the weight reduction by ditching the dropper😂. Who the “F” needs a dropper for Leadville.
Thunderburts for the win!
What is it, a crossover episode!?
Hey, my back hurts just thinking about slamming a stem, haha. Couple blown discs here.
If you want 1 finger braking? Keep the 4 piston calipers.. or go up in rotor size

We just put a mtb break on it
Good luck in the race. I found the Woodman post too flexible and eventually the cradle snapped. Looks like you’re on short crank arms.
Hey man, what happened with your Gemini handlebar? I just had a friend who broke one ask well...
I love my Eggbeaters…. But no kidding, they need to be rebuilt at least once a year.
Doc said I have video back...thanks
What state is the filming location? Colorado? I'm vacationing in BV, 30 miles south of Leadville. The weather is nice but the sun is intense.
At the end of the video when they were riding they said they were riding in Breckenridge. Either way since Dylan's here for Leadville they definitely filmed somewhere close to there
@@BoxCarBoy12 Thanks for catching that.
I’ll also be on a drop bar rig ! Party time 🎉

Sorry if I missed it, but what is the frame?

@@treyshepard1717 Thank you
I'm waiting for someone to add some fairings to the fox 32.
Before the conversion we could see Dylan's secret inovation to reduce weight, let's call it Righty.
Super cool. Curious what he is doing for reach. Same as his gravel bike? Shorter for Leadville?
I understand you live in Brevard ,Dylan, and I hope you are safe after Hurricane Helene. Terribly sad.
No dropper FTW!
notice that the seat rails are really forward!!
Lets see Dylan on dropbar fullsuspension fat bike
is the trek checkpoint SLR still your favorite gravel bike? I've recently seen the vid about it
Sub 23 lbs is pretty good for a big wheel bike.
What size are the Thunder Burt tires on that bike?
2.35

They are extremely heavy. Your better off putting a drop bar on a mtb then riding that bike.
They are heavy for a gravel bike, but not for a MTB . My MCR is 24lb 2oz and that includes pedals, a dropper, frame pump, 3 bottle cages and a element bolt. side on it looks like he could use a slightly longer stem.
Would love to see a parts list.... I may convert my ht MTB to a drop bar... 😂
We're working to get video parts lists added to our website, so check back there next week - Chase is hoping to have it more updated by then
I want to do this with a Trek Supercaliber.
No suspension lockout?
Twist lock
Components in grams, bike in ibs?
I'm surprised Dylan never makes use of the many -35 and even -45° stems available. It would combat the high stack of a mountain bike perfectly
What tire liners are those?
Walmart pool noodles

wow, the fork and shift levers alone are $2k worth of kit. Do you get it for free if you make a video?
Dylan is a sponsored pro…
My back hurts when I look at that stem. Back in my day I ran a 140mm stem. Get off my lawn. 😉
