    I don't use a belt lifter tool to get the brush bar out I go through the pain of using a screw driver

    We have a clean DC07 that is the gray and light pink version. I love that vacuum! Last week... the roller bar stopped spinning and we think it's either the internal belt (that you can't see) or the clutch. The motor and suction are all still working. While I figure out where to take it, I snapped up a factory refurbished UP13 Ball Animal on woot! for $189 with all the tools. (It was refurbished by Dyson and shipped by Dyson.) It arrived today and I was so excited because I've heard great things about the ball vacuums and since we've got a German Shepherd and two cats... I thought the Animal would be a fantastic bonus. It was so underwhelming. SIGH.
    The UP13 Ball Animal vacuum itself is made of more flimsy plastic than the DC07. Our DC07 is a tank. The ball maneuverability is different and I can see some benefit... but the two halves of the ball look flimsy and it just doesn't seem sturdy. The UP13 is more quiet... but it kind of seems like it doesn't have the same suction as the DC07. I'm really glad I didn't pay full pop for this thing... as it doesn't compare at all in my book. I was so excited to get a 10 year old vacuum upgrade... but so far... it seems like a downgrade. Even pulling the vacuum back to use and then putting it back upright when done is not easy. It's a clanky plastic motion and it often takes two or more tries to get it to stay in the upright position... it just doesn't catch. Removing the dirt canister on the DC07 is a cinch and the trap door is easy to open with the little trigger pull. With the UP13 Ball Animal... removing it from the vacuum was easy... but the push button mechanism to open the trap door wasn't working. It is two flimsy pieces of plastic that need to align together and work in unison and I finally manually moved the bottom half to open the dirt canister. After one use... I can't wait to go back to my old Dyson. This new one is flimsy and cheap! =(
    For Dyson to continue to charge $400-$600 for a vacuum.... they really should go back to the basics with thicker plastics and more durable designs built to deliver like the older versions had. There is no way this UP13 Ball Animal will last 10+ years like my DC07 has and it's convinced me to go get the belt/clutch issue on the DC07 fixed ASAP!

    Used to go through a vacuum biannually prior to buying my dc7 2001. Absolutely saved me thousands and saved the landfills. Id be heart broken if my dyson were to die but works like new as always. If my plastic were to get brittle, i may dip my parts in epoxy or something. Ill never let it go

    I have this vacuum in my collection. I put a 30 ft central vac hose on the top and it works well as a straight suction cleaner......

    Saw one at a Thrift Store for $40 and tested it watch a couple of youtube service video for this and it's been running like a champ. Filters, Clutch, Brush bar and a new head cover co'z the old one was banged a lot by the previous owner. I vacuum everyday since I got the service all done and expecting more years of service with this machine. Last time I saw it's still going for $200 on amazon not sure how much today.

    I like that there are various pieces of the tubing you can take off to inspect for clogs. Also the way it's designed around back just looks really neat. Much prefer it to the overly transparent/"futiristic" looking vacuums we have now.

    Have had one of the DC 07 model since when they first came out...I probably need to get a replacement clutch, since it is still using the original....it still " Sucks the hair off a cats back" (works good) but won't pick up quite as well as it used to.....we have spliced the cord....( Thanks puppy dog), and gone through a few filters ( ones on the side) pre-filter I think they call it.
    My teenage daughter is using it now.

    I refurbish the Dyson Uprights DC07,14, 33 they are basically the same vacuum with the the same problem on the internal spring (floor contact problem from weak spring). The hepa filter does have a 2 piece gasket as mentioned Peel n Stick not very good for holding to the filter. My Fix is using hot glue to mount the gasket. My own daily driver is a modified DC14, I have fixed the spring problem permanently and increased some air flow. Grooms carpet better now. I have the luxury to have an air compressor to blow these vacuums clean (outside of course) before a total wash. You forgot to mention brush rolls should be maintained on a yearly basis(Garbage builds up between the end caps, can break belts if not maintained). Most Vacuums I get the frozen brush roll has broken the belt in the clutch assembly. Enjoy your videos.

      +Keith Millington I prefer to change the brush roller is a whole assembly as it was intended.

    4 years after your video, still running a Dyson DC07.
    It is still in V. G. C. for its age, Iv jst given it a good clean, apart from a few scratches it's almost as good as new.
    I'm in the UK so don't know if UK machines differ from those in the U S A.

    We have an original purple DC07 Animal, the ABS plastic is starting to crack, we got a new front cover for it. Not sure how much longer it's going to last with the plastic getting brittle.

    Great video. Bought one of these new in 2001.Didnt have a particle tester then.Always wanted to know the air quality. I have a dc17,dc28,and a dc 50 .They all blow zero on my IQAIR particle tester. I wonder if genuine dyson filters would have done better. Thanks for testing this machine. Great suction but terrible brushroll design. Thanks again.

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  6 років тому +2

      +Timothy Connell when Dyson vacuums are maintained properly which they really are& The filter is changed on time. They are fine but once they've been abused the plastic starts to warp and gaskets break down thus leaking dirt out of the machine . This is why most manufacturers have opted to just use a disposable vacuum bag which definitely seems to work better at the end of the day and cost less money.

    My DC07 is on it's last stretch and I'm looking for a new vacuum under $200. Any recommendations? I can get the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal for under $200 and am wondering if anything is better at that price point.

    Thanks for the vid man. I’ve seen a lot of these at the curb over the years dc14 as well I’ve seen a lot of. I only grab them now and sharks too for my local vac shop. I’ll trade him for parts I may need or just give him some for free. He’s pretty appreciative but we are good friends anyways lol. You’d be surprised if you started doing service vids on run of the mill Hoover’s and bissels you may end up with a lot of views as a lot of people have them. Maybe do kinda the same thing like with this vid let people know what’s prone to failure or etc. I’ve found some of the most basic vids I have done have gotten a lot of views

      I don't think that many people who buy Hoovers, Eurekas and Bissells bring the current models in for service when they break. In days past when they were made better they did but today's mainstream machines cost so little that it's more effective to toss them and buy another.

    Thank you, i just got one used and the brushroll doesnt work, the seller told me there is a trick but its not that the belt or anything is broken. You make this vacum look like a toy but its complicated. I need advise why can be a reason why the brush is not rolling?

      You'll need to bring it to a local repair shop and have them check out the clutch And other parts.

    I have a 13 year old dc14 animal. Not one thing replaced. I hate using it because I hate the noise the clutch can make. I have not used it for like 3 years. Maybe only for a minute or two, but with no brush. Now I know your going to hate this, but I love my shark navigator nv60 26. And the Bissell powerforce helix turbo rewind.

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  6 років тому

      +ca31 sounds like your Dyson is due for a new clutch. I would be worried about the Dust coming out of your Bissell. Start saving for new vacuums you'll need one within a year it sounds like.
      I'll let the rest of the commenters comment on this.

    Question.... I took mine apart to clean unclogged, which I did. My brush does not spin, so reason why I went and took it a part and the belt is not broken, so why would the brush not spin? Is it the rotating rod? I have the DC14.

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  Рік тому +1

      The clutch should be changed about every two years. Bring it to your local vacuum shop and have them change it.

    I bought DC40 few months ago and I am disappointed. Spine in it is super flimsy to the point where it causes occasional suction leak between the bin and the dirt "output pipe". Most disappointing is the pick up performance. It just doesn't clean very well at all. It leaves a lot dirt behind compared to my other vacuums like for example my Sebo Felix.
    Do you have any experience of the later ball models?

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  6 років тому +3

      +Vacuumtests yes the DC40 was a joke when it came out . The store I worked at sold Miele Oreck,Royal, Dyson and SEBO side by side.
      Are you still at a customer try the DC40 and the Miele U1 with the Felix side by side and they would always pick the Felix or the Miele.
      I do have a video on service for it up.

    • @vacuumtests9225
      @vacuumtests9225 6 років тому +2

      Nice to hear that. I have done several videos comparing the DC40 to Shark NV500, NV340 and Sebo Felix. Sharks and Sebo performs much better than the DC40. Medium pile rug is just too much for the DC40. Even the Shark performs better and Sebo performing better wasn't really a surprise. I actually removed the "air scoop", but it didn't help much. However it makes dirt path wider so it doesn't clog so easily. My latest vacuum Miele C3 Powerline is my favorite. It's stunning performer. Real eye opener how much better it is compared to the DC40 and Shark.
      I have baird airflow meter and one reason why Dyson performed so poorly seems to be the low airflow. For example Dyson 2/10, Sebo Felix 6/10 and Miele C3 10/10.
      Note that the EU version Felix only has 700 watt motor and it still pulls good 6/10 airflow.

      I got a DC40 as a graduation gift (graduated in June 2014)... It was the worst vacuum I ever used... I traded it in for the DC65 which cleans much better than the DC40... Not as good as the higher end machines such as Sebo or Kirby, but its still much better than the DC40. The DC40 struggled to pick up surface debris from the low pile carpet in my living room and took several passes to pick up cat hair.

    I hated the clutches in these older Dyson's. Pick up a cord or shoe string and get a hell of a loud clicking sound. These things were garbage. Swore I'd never buy one myself and now I'm waiting on my up13 to arrive in the mail. Didn't cost much so I don't expect much.

    IMO, DC07 is an over engineered over priced piece of garbage. The Apple comupter of vacuums. People just fall for their marketing and the keeping up with the Jones human psychology bs. Plastic just cracked and broke and entire thing just literally fell apart.
