We want you to know that the gentleman showing and narrating how to replace the belts on a Dyson DC33 was very helpful and calming during a very frustrating and tedious job. We thank him greatly for keeping my husband and I from killing each other (yes, the frustration would have been that bad). Thanks again!

This was an extremely helpful video. I knew the belts were stretched out, but until I compared the new ones to the old ones, I didn't realize how much. It would have been very difficult to figure out how to disassemble the clutch without this video.

Hi Alec, As so many others have commented, you really saved the day! I was inches away from ditching my 10-yr old Dyson Animal but something told me to do some online research before giving up. And Voila! There you were with your informative and easy to understand instructions! I have never taken on a self-repair like this before, but your videos gave me the confidence to try. And bada bing, a new roller and clutch (and just a couple of banged up knuckles) and I'm back in business - the old gal is running like it's brand new!! Not sure if you're aware, but you're definitely famous on lots of help sites where posters specifically refer people to your UA-cam vid's for help. So thanks a million for sharing your expertise!! Be well. Jayne from CT

THANK YOU for providing such a thorough step by step video for changing out a clutch belt on a Dyson. It is one of the most ridiculously complex & time consuming jobs just for a simple belt change. One would think, with as much money as we have paid for our Dyson vacuum cleaners, they'd make something as common as a belt replacement a bit more straight forward & simplistic.

Great video. Found it easier to put motor belt on first before clipping clutch in place

That seems like it might be good, though it looks like it's often a struggle to get the clutch seated properly, even without the belt making it more difficult. Probably just needs more care lining it up as it's pushed in, rather than randomly dropping it in and hoping for the best.

Very good video that allowed me to replace clutch belt on my Dyson ds30. One improvement I would suggest is to remove the clutch belt cover before removing the spring clip. First that is all that is needed if you only need to replace the clutch belt and Second that way the likelihood of breaking the plastic lip of the cover is limited since the shaft is not yet under pressure from the shaft spring. I liked the author’s narration and pace. Well done

This video was a great help! I get lots of hair buildup on the roller brush frequently. I typically use a utility knife to slice down the long axis of the brush, then just separate the two halves of wrapped hair and pull them free. This time, the belt broke when I was moving it to clear the hair from under it. This video saved the day. I do have two observations to share:
    1) when I tried your website (Oct 2018) It was not functional; it said "The new MonsterVacuum.com coming soon".
    2) I had to look elsewhere for parts since your site was down--I found them on Amazon. For about $10 more than the cost of two belts, I bought a replacement clutch (genuine Dyson part!), and it had the two belts already pre-installed. That was a lot easier and faster than doing a complete teardown of the existing clutch--the whole repair took me about 30 minutes!

Appreciate the effort to put this together. Got an estimate for repairing my stepdaughter's vacuum at $65 parts and $100 labor. Reconsidered the option to DIY after watching your video. Seems the store was intent on replacing the whole clutch assembly rather than doing what you demonstrated. I went with your approach. Thanks.

By far the best video I've seen. The only change I'd suggest is when you take off the red/orange/purple piece - do it from the other side. Insert your screwdriver beside the carpet indicator to disengage the clip, then pop it off. Also - your website is currently down so I had to go to the Dyson store to buy parts. Clutch kit with belts was $32.

I was always surprised how crude the design of the Dyson DC07 was for such an expensive item.
Holding down the head with one foot while standing to the side to tilt it into operating position, pulling the hose out from the pipe to use any attachments, manual cord wrap, knob switch for brush engagement. Just didn't seem very refined compared to other vacuums.

Thanks for the help, surely a job for everyone to do. That metal clip/belt guide will fit on either side of my clutch, had to pull the clutch out and reposition it properly. You may want to include a new lock clip/ring with future belt kits, it is pretty tough to get this off without bending it up, even with the right tool. I had to bend mine back into proper position before reassembly.

I agree with many about what a terrible design this part of the vacuum is.In order to change such a basic component (belt) it was so fiddly and a big headache. And the screws were such poor quality given the price of this appliance, as are all its plastic components.

Check the ends of your roller brush. They pop off and there may be a wad of hair inside. Thought my clutch had burnt up because the brush wouldn't move and there was a burning smell when I turned the vacuum on. Went to take it apart to see if the clutch belt broke. It was fine but when I went to put the brush back on the end popped off and that's when I found the bird nest of hair. It was preventing the brush from spinning.

One question Alec, Does the clutch slip when roller gets jammed with a thread from a carpet edge that in the old non-clutch Dysons would end up getting jammed and consequently the motor shaft slipping on its rubber belt burns through the belt and you would then need to replace the single belt. As well as I understand the knob engages and disengages the roller from turning for different floors, for carpets you need the brush turning, for smooth surfaces the roller stays unmoving.

  • @ddnaomi

Get a large zip tie and loop it through the belts give it a good tug. Put it around the shaft or roller. Once the belt is in place cut the zip tie and remove it.

  • @djfreake
    @djfreake 5 місяців тому

Well, crap. I’m down to the clutch and the belt is still on and both look good. Do I go deeper into the clutch or assume that maybe the brush is bad or worse? Slipping at the output shaft/motor?

  • @jbcaesar3780
    @jbcaesar3780 8 років тому +4

I went to change out the clutch as it was making the clicking sound like it was bad, took it apart for curiosity sake and it looked like it was still good. as I was looking things over I noticed the rollers on the end of the brush were really stiff, I had cut a bunch of hair off the brush earlier but when I pulled the end caps off the brush there was hair bound up around the rod so tight it was hard to turn. pulled the hair out and all is well no clutch need. might check this before changing the clutch. the hair wasn't visible until you took the ends off the brush.

hi, my dyson rollers just stopped turning recently, it's a clutched version like the one you're repairing, and i could see the belt still on so i knew it had to be a deeper problem, like the inner belt from motor to clutch. I "cheated" and purchased a new clutch and belt assembly (and new brush), followed your instructions (which are very good and clear), and found that the second belt was intact, so I came to the conclusion that the clutch unit itself was faulty, so I put in the new clutch assembly, and put everything back together, and although the motor is running the brush part still doesn't turn. by the way i'm in the uk, so buying parts from you might make make the costs more than going to the repair shop (hope you are still able to help!)

Is there an easy way to know that it is the clutch belt that is broken? My friend gave me hers, when she got a new one, and I am cleaning it right now. The beater brush isn't spinning freely it's got some pull to it. The attachment part works on this vacuum it is just the beater brush that isn't working right. I have the filters wet right now so I won't know until tomorrow if I got it working. lol

I'm finding that the DC33 is very hard to push on our new carpet which is fairly dense. My main question: Would you expect that I should be able to stop the roller brush from turning by holding my thumb on it? Otherwise it seems to turn at normal speed and does not slip. The one belt I can see looks in good shape, even after 11 years. The roller brush is free of hair and debris. Because of the pushing effort I'm wondering if the brush is turning during vacuuming. I'm thinking the pushing effort is due to the thick carpet, since it's hard to push even when the roller brush is disengaged; another vacuum(Shark) is a bit hard to push too.

When the vacuum is in the upright position you will feel suction through the top of the hose handle. Once you move the Dyson to the vacuuming position the suction should move to the brush roll. If it doesn't may be a hose or elbow is off or the mechanical change over is not working. Let me know.

What torque screwdriver is that? Nice of dyson to use one of those instead of a Phillips

It's T 15 for the clutch cover and T 10 to open the clutch top.

Great video sir! How fast should the roller brush spin? Should you be able to easily stop it with your hand? I think my belts are worn/stretched but they have no visible wear. Def not trying to buy another $300 dyson :)

No you shouldn't be able to stop it with your hand. The belt is probably stretched between the motor and the clutch. If you have any questions call us at 256-472-4400. Thanks.

Awesome thanks! Now I need to buy a T15 screwdriver which I will probably never use again. I have the full clutch assembly with new belts. Hopefully this will fix it!!

If you flip the vacuum cleaner over you will see a groove, a wheel on a plastic arm moves over a cam in the slot if you lubricate the wheel with silicon grease it should fix the problem

please help me, I've taken mine apart and cleaned very well, I have a dc 33 my brush turns but no suction on bottom only through hose an it's not like it was it's very little suction , this vacuum was very powerful an now it's hardly use able , idk if I need a belt or clutch , can you please help ?

Krystal Smith If there is suction at the hose end but none behind the roller while it is being used for floor cleaning there may a blockage in the flexible tube that is just behind the roller brush assembly. The flexible hose could also have slipped off its connectors. You can remove the access panel that is behind the clutch and tilt the handle back until you can see down the flex tube towards the brushbar. This will allow you to see a blockage or if the hose has become detached. I hope this helps.

I installed a new clutch and belts it seems to work OK but now the head won't stay down on the floor when you try and use it. Any idea of what I did wrong?

Sounds like suction. Did you attach the hose back on properly? Is it leaking? Or is there a gap?

Among the 7, 14, 17 or 33... Which one do you consider the best performing a) on hard floors, and b) in general durability? ¿which is the worst?
