    What you said about focusing on practicing a technique rather than catching fish is very true. I am a bait fisho but I have been trying to get into soft plastics fishing so a week ago I decided I was gonna go out off the Alex heads rocks and just throw lures for a few hours and just work out Walmart was going on, eventually somthing clicked and every day I went down I got a decent amount of quality fish and it is so rewarding! Awesome stuff🤙🤙😂!

      Cheers Jake. It’s made a world of difference to my skill set I reckon. Game changer and takes the edge off trying to get fish all the time...

    I've only recently started watching your videos on skip casting and on my first outing yesterday caught 2 Jack's in the high thirties and dropped a better one thanks to your videos.

    John, I love your videos and I’m a big fan. I think you should organise a practical skip casting lesson (paid, of course) so you can teach us how to set up our gear and help us with issues. We can do it of a sandy bank. If you ever organise one, count me in. Cheers!

    Where is the release point 6 o'clock? What should the lure enter the water line 4 ft in front etc.? Mine are too close and the lure bounces to high and bird nest.

    How are you finding the concept reel
    Mine doesn't cast as far as the curado dc

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Shane, I’m really Happy with it to this point. Drag and corrosion resistance 👌 casting I’m happy with but I haven’t distance tested a DC to compare. I’ve only played with the DCs in the tight cover. The noise on DCs during casting I’m not overly keen on... just a personal thing but they are impressive for what they’re designed to do that’s for sure.

    You’ve literally been my inspiration for this John if it wasn’t for you I’d still be slogging nothing but pontoons am yet to crack one out of the mangroves yet tho what sort of retrieve is it literally just cast in the burn straight out?

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Cam. You can slow it down a bit compared to pontoons if you’re not getting any interest. I tend to start slow and ramp up the speed whilst they’re still showing interest and see how hard they’re gonna go to hit it.
      Try and get that tail paddling as soon as the lure finishes its trip into the snag and if you run out past a log, drop it down as it leaves the end of it. Sometimes the Jack will smack it on the drop right there. Keep at it mate and keep heading further up the systems into the heavy and tight stuff ;)

    Hi Jon,
    What was the brand of braid you use. I am an avid Power Pro user I love it but if there is something for skip casting then I would like to try it.

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  3 роки тому

      Hi mate. I use Bionic Braid cause it’s Rod Harrison’s. Also like Sunline Castaway. Powerpro would be a pic at 20-30 for skipping too I reckon

    Hello John big fan, I have used your videos to get decent at skip casting with spinning gear, I'm working on getting better with a bait caster. Can you do a video on proper thumb control. How much pressure to use? Anything you can think off as far as exercises? Skip casting is the only time I consistently get backlashes when using a bait caster.

    • @mylurebox
      @mylurebox  3 роки тому

      Hi Ricardo. Thanks for your message ;) I’ll try and put something together in the coming months as I do more. Basic 120degree pirouettes without releasing the lure but feeling and watching the lure fly just above the surface before a release would be worth doing. Also trying to cast low and direct even with a hard body at snags to start getting a lower trajectory of cast might help. The thumb is basically always feathering the spool for Control as the lure flies into the snag. Then as the lure slows, a rod tip lift almost like a follow through in golf or tennis etc helps to get any overrun line away from the spool.
      I’d start with bigger plastics then work on downsizing.
      Hope that helps mate :)

    So, as depths of your edges, i realise it will change from spot to spot, but say that location u r in there, is that a reasonably shallow or deep edge and the shadows u r skipping into? Like less than a meter or more?
