Guy stopped by while i was fishing the other evening.. it was about 42 deg right at sunset... he asked isnt it to cold to fish.. i said im not sure but its not to cold to practice... lol
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
Have watched more than a few of your vids. Your skill at explaining techniques in a manner that is understandable by non-professionals is unmatched. I am a fan!
I've watched a lot of skipping videos but this one really lays down the details gives you a lot of stuff to run over and practice and think about thanks brother
Why do you use a hand trolling motor on your tin boat ? Btw I’m glad you do some of your vids in a tin boat it shows every one you don’t need a 60-80k rig to catch fish.
Thank you so much for the info B Lat! This is one technique that I DEFINITELY need to get better at, and your video is one of the best explained that I’ve seen! Anglers like myself really appreciate a professional like yourself taking the time to explain techniques to us and giving us tips to help with our fishing! Keep up your grind and can’t wait for more technique specific vids! P.S. Finally got me a White Bird casting today after watching your video and can’t wait to get it out on the water and see how it performs! Thanks a million brotha 👊🏽
Liked your video alot. You are a very good insructor .I've seen alot of videos about bait skipping. Yours was the best. It let me understand the basic principles. Ove been fishing for a long- long - time time .
Your arms were blocking the placement of the first time the lure hits the water. The location of the "first contact point" with the water is very important to achieving a great, long skip. Thanks and CONGRATS!!
Good info brother. Hopefully after your big win the other day you can replace that broken handle. Lol. Glad to see the new guys making it. Congrats and nothing but well wishes your way. Keep the videos coming. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for you!
Love the low down you're keeping it real right to the point keep up the great work I can't wait to see you winning the bass masters classic one day awesome job Have fun tight lines
Man you ain't hurting my feelings none talking about the mono, I've gotten to where I use almost all mono in cold weather, flouro in cool water cost me way too many big fish last year. I'll only use flouro for a few specific things from now on.
Man...I love all your videos. New and old. I learn so much from you and am looking to get my first boat to get into some amateur tournaments this year, partly cuz of you. Just hard to find the money, but the drive is stronger and I want nothing more than to become a "professional" angler...keep on inspiring man....love you and everything you bring to fishing....
Flukes are the easiest to learn to skip imo. Did it growing up on spinning gear all the time. Usually cast low to high bc of it. Alot quiter and can still cast far.
I went to this lake once and we were fishing off the dock. I decided to fish while standing in the water where a whole school of bluegill were staying. I thought they were gonna get scared and swim away, but I guess they were curious because i felt them all nipping at my legs. I've never seen anything like that before.
I must say you've done it again another great video and it's an awesome filling when you skip a jig under a dock and see your line twitch are start swimming sideways and set the hook on a 4 are 5 pounder keep up the great job and hope to see you on Hartwell are Greenwood sometime. 👍💦🐟💦
1) Why do you have a bobber stopper on a jig? Does that protect the knot? 2) I'd like to know why you chose a hand-control instead of a foot-control trolling motor. Just trying to learn.... Thanks!
Thanks, your instructional videos are great!! Do you ever upgrade your bearings in your reels? Got a revo03 stx. My rocket always outcast it. Wonder if they put different bearing in it? Thanks again for another great video!
dude trilene big game mono is king anyway. i've used braid, floro, coploy... it all sucks... floro and copoly are coily as FUUUCK hate it... braid is cool, but I swear the fish can see it... caught way less fish on braid. mono wins.
New subscriber here, I so wanted to see your casts but all I could see was your arms when you made just about every cast that you had been explaining the do’s and don’t of skipping. I don’t know what you were using for a camera setup but it was of little use when you demonstrated what you had just explained.
Brian on my lake which is lake Barkley in kentucky. All the docks are floating docks as you probably know there is very little room between floats. I get so frustrated trying to skip those little gaps. It seems you have to be expert and i am a true novice. Have any suggestions on the best way to skip these type of docks?
Easiest way to learn to skip is make a medium cast, put a piece of tape on your spool, now wind your line back in. Now go practice skipping and you won't have to worry about blowing up your reel.
Any person trying to learn how to skip a lure, the easiest lures I have found to skip are a fat rap and a zoom horny toad. The smooth contours of those baits make for very easy practice.
Haha good point on boat position. I literally try to put my boys that are with me on the boat on the best position possible and if I’m in a good position and they are not I’ll rotate the boat so they can have fun too
I'm still very new with a baitcaster. Watching your casting techniques. Much of what you are talking about was way over my head. But I'm going to keep on following your channel until it all makes sense. 👍🏾
All very good points but I will add a few more for the learners.. Do not try to skip if the water is rough. The flatter the water, the easier.. When your ready for jigs, a half ounce will skip further than 3/8 or 1/4. It's all about inertia VS friction
Thanks Brian for making a video showing how to skip baits . NowI understand how . I'm going to practice . I. Tried to get Kyle Welch to make a video on how to skip baits but he never made one . Kyle can skip some baits he's good at it.
Brian, Thanks for this tutorial. I have struggled with skipping using baitcating equipment. I plan to follow your recommendation and switch to mono on a few of our combos. I have been using a spinning outfit for a few years. Having success. After having my heart broken last trip by not being able to turn a fish under the dock I need to switch to a baitcasting combo. Thanks again and God Bless! Regaards, Pastor Dan
how would you feel you see someone trying to skip under your boat? Nothing on you Brian this was a great informative video. Learned a few things. You see someone new trying to skip dinging up your boat. lol
His boat deck sounds a little noisy.. good info here though.. skipping with light braid works well for me 30lbs spider wire. Braid is super easy to pick out light backlashes ..
Hey B Lat, when skipping with a baitcaster do I do anything different on the spoil? Like keep my thumb on it lightly or just do it like a regular cast and only use my thumb when I want it to stop?
Fished my first tourney today as a non boater on the back of another club members boat. Boater skipped under docks all day and finished top 3. I didnt know how to do this nor had the right equipment but now I have a base to start learning. I might be handicapped in the back but ima be able to skip under these docks after a bit of practice. Thanks BLAT!
Thank you so much for the information Mr.Latimer because of you sir i was able to learn to skip 11 months ago with a spinning reel i have practiced for 11 months with a spinning reel so much so that im at a point now that i can skip from the bank to half way across the water , for christmas last year i got my 1st baitcaster so last saturday i went fishing and i noticed that upon my 1st 2 or 3 cast i was only able to skip 3 foot distance , im so glad i learned real fast from you sir. i wanted to thank you for teaching this ole boy to have fun with a baitcaster now i can go out there and really use my new googan baits rattlin chunk craw white pearl and strike king rage craw and strike king ocho pink and white and my new yum dinger next time im out on the water. Now all i gotta do is go out there and catch them.
Guy stopped by while i was fishing the other evening.. it was about 42 deg right at sunset... he asked isnt it to cold to fish.. i said im not sure but its not to cold to practice... lol

But can you teach me how to skip visits from my inlaws?
They can't touch you on the water!
@@ScuffedEngineer My mother in law is terrified of boats! ... My father in law always wants to go with hahah
@@ScuffedEngineer why am i picturing this happening in my head
Hahahahahahaha😂
@@MerchantMonk sounda like a decent father in law lol
Have watched more than a few of your vids. Your skill at explaining techniques in a manner that is understandable by non-professionals is unmatched. I am a fan!
I’ve been looking for a great video like this for skipping
I've watched a lot of skipping videos but this one really lays down the details gives you a lot of stuff to run over and practice and think about thanks brother
By far the best skipping video I’ve seen.
Why do you use a hand trolling motor on your tin boat ? Btw I’m glad you do some of your vids in a tin boat it shows every one you don’t need a 60-80k rig to catch fish.
You literally answered your own question
Been doing this for years. Learned how to do it as a kid. Didn’t know it was a thang. Great video as always.
Excellent video, been uncomfortable skipping. Planning on picking up the rod and giving it some patience. Thanks Brian!
Thank you so much for the info B Lat! This is one technique that I DEFINITELY need to get better at, and your video is one of the best explained that I’ve seen! Great tips! I’m going fishing this week from an aluminum boat and a kayak and I’ll be practicing skipping from them.
Congrats on Seminole B Lat. great teaching videos, keep them coming plz
Better update this segment to “The Champion’s Details”. 👍🏻🔥👍🏻🐟
Great instructional vid Brian 🙂
Liked your video alot. You are a very good insructor .I've seen alot of videos about bait skipping. Yours was the best. It let me understand the basic principles. Ove been fishing for a long- long - time time .
Smart teacher, great instruction
To reduce backlashing or blowing up pull out your line to where you think the end of the cast would be then put electrical tape on the reel spool.
Best video on skipping on you tube!
Your arms were blocking the placement of the first time the lure hits the water. The location of the "first contact point" with the water is very important to achieving a great, long skip. Thanks and CONGRATS!!
Great instructions, starting out low and ending high is great info, going to try it next time out.
I love you dude, always so helpful. Can't wait to try this.
Great video. Definitely going to learn how to skip this summer.
Just flat out an exceptional video on skipping baits!
Good info brother. Hopefully after your big win the other day you can replace that broken handle. Lol. Glad to see the new guys making it. Congrats and nothing but well wishes your way. Keep the videos coming. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for you!

Thank for the pointer. Live your videos.
Awesome knowledge
Great video, Brian. I started with my spinning gear on this, but have haven't made the transition to my baitcasting gear yet.
Thanks for the lesson. Very helpful
Also, don't try to over power cast. I do better when I cast slow and easy and soft.GREAT VIDEO. Good work B Lat
Great pointers. Great video!
boat position, boat position, boat position. Great stuff my friend.
Hey Brian, do people ever trip on you when you fish close to their docks?
Easiest bait to skip: rat L trap. Take off the hooks to practice getting the angle right
Using a baitcaster instead of a spinning rod for skipping adds so much to the degree of difficulty. Is it really worth it?
Jim King lol
Man you ain't hurting my feelings none talking about the mono, I've gotten to where I use almost all mono in cold weather, flouro in cool water cost me way too many big fish last year. I'll only use flouro for a few specific things from now on.
Love your videos. Thank you for the help
Awesome Vid again, I was always told to keep my arm close to my body and keep that thumb on that reel lol! Thanks again Bro!!! Sharing is caring!!!
Yo!! glad i found your channel. awesome stuff my man!
Outstanding video man
great tips b. lat! always good info and great "deatails".
Since I never learned to skip a bait I was always been good at casting/pitching real low to get where people who skip go.
Damn... Coverinrg up Lunkerstv name on his defender series rod 👀👀👀👀 awkward....

i know you like spinning reels, can skipping be done with one???
Been wanting to learn to skip for years. All I can say after watching this very informative video, is man great beard!
Great video!
Good video

B Lat always dropping knowledge and excellent tips! Keeping that rod tip low to high and commitment is key. Love the football analogy too.

I'm wondering if Jon B. Has seen this? I'm sure he would be pumped! That Rigged rod
1) Why do you have a bobber stopper on a jig? Does that protect the knot? 2) I'd like to know why you chose a hand-control instead of a foot-control trolling motor. Just trying to learn.... Thanks!
Rick Lovall no no need to cut it off. Can’t run foot control on a raised platform.
Awsome video... I will have to keep practicing my skipping game. Thank for the tip
Thank you man!
Thanks, your instructional videos are great!! Do you ever upgrade your bearings in your reels? Got a revo03 stx. My rocket always outcast it. Wonder if they put different bearing in it? Thanks again for another great video!
I can’t pay attention for looking at that awesome beard 😂
Good details.
What to do when the home owner comes and yell at you because you hit his boat? Lol
Damn man wish I could be a pro. I know I got what it takes 😭😭😭
Damn how u bust that handle on the abu? Lol
I skipped by mistake once bahahhah 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I've done that before LOL
I try to on purpose then blow up my reels
dude trilene big game mono is king anyway. i've used braid, floro, coploy... it all sucks... floro and copoly are coily as FUUUCK hate it... braid is cool, but I swear the fish can see it... caught way less fish on braid. mono wins.

Thanks Brian really struggle with backlash and not being smooth. I seem to position my boat ok but rush to much
Good information and would have like to have seen more emphasis on the actual casting technique e.g. rod position, physical motion.
Easiest way to learn to skip is make a medium cast, put a piece of tape on your spool, now wind your line back in. Now go practice skipping and you won't have to worry about blowing up your reel.
Soon as you said ..youll blow up a reel. I started laughing
That's why I'm watching this still trying to get the hang of it

Top angler and the beard always looks on point!
this guy is like the Cam Newton of fishing!
Great video. Can I ask what swimbait and color you have on the back of that chatterbait? Thanks
Haha good point on boat position. I literally try to put my boys that are with me on the boat on the best position possible and if I’m in a good position and they are not I’ll rotate the boat so they can have fun too
How are you suppose to set your brakes and spool tension when flipping and pitching
That hat is clean b lat
What about a link to that sweet hat?
Senkos are the easiest to skip in my opinion, they are the most forgiving, and distance wise it isnt the worst
Is it a benefit to take one of your reel knobs off? Lol That would drive me nuts!
I started skipping with a lews mark rose reel with 15 lb pline floroclear on a 15 dollar baitcaster from dicks with a 3/8 ounce football jig
Man, that’s some chocolate milk water there! Chatter bait all day?
I'm trying to learn this so I can skipp frogs right onto snakeheads
I'm still very new with a baitcaster. Watching your casting techniques. Much of what you are talking about was way over my head. But I'm going to keep on following your channel until it all makes sense. 👍🏾
really good tutorial, helped out alot. and your beard looks sick so thats a plus
