Gustaf Wessling F1 cars were death machines at that time and drivers respected one another because of that. Now because of how safe F1 cars are drivers don’t really feel risk when they crash into someone and get angry.
Apollo 99 maybe... I mean lauda and hunt had rivalry yet they still respected each other... I think it’s a bit of arrogance and the inability to see how close they could’ve been to the accidents being fatal. Cars are safer today but there’s still a risk.

Gotta say F1's media strategy worked 100% on me, at the beginning of the last year I started to watch some of these Top 10, simply because of UA-cam automatic recommendations, liked them, watched 1 or 2 races and finally got completely sold without a way back watching Drive to Survive, didn't miss a race since then.

There's an old story that if something bad happens in F1 and its your fault you keep your helmet on. Also, if someone is angry at you, keep the helmet on incase they want to hit you (Coulthard told a story one about how Michael Schumacher went to hit him even though he still had a crash helmet on).

I definitely hadn't forgotten the Buemi-Piquet incident, nor every single one of them in general. Some of them were more unfamiliar than others, though. Some of the ones that happened before my time.
When I saw the title I was immediately thinking about McNish's accident. And it was there like it should be ;-) That accident was one of the most crazy I have ever seen in F1. Very underestimated. He went THROUGH the barrier and not just a bit.. How lucky he was he hit backwards. If he crashed nose first it would have had a very different outcome I think...
