Stop trying to take a few bad experiences and applying that to the experience of millions of customers. Its not to different from apple and their it has water damage and battery. I have my ally for about 6 months and never had a problem with it same with even my brother-in law's Ally has no issues.

You get use to window's after a while, my only grip is the onscreen keyboard covers the text you are typing at times

Why these handhelds ship with one USB-C port baffles me.
I’m disappointed massively if there’s no extra I/0 or USB ports, I want to use it as a portable computer as well as gaming.
I like the ally but I will not buy the next generation version. Hopefully a large manufacturer makes a handheld with detachable controls, with pen pressure support, my rog ally set up is too cumbersome. Hopefully the legion go 2 or the dell handheld adds this, the screen size is big enough, it just needs mpp or an alternative.
The only thing the ally needs to do is to put the biggest battery it can hold in it, make the os more power/battery effecient, no more sdcard troubles and a better screen. The screen I thought was excellent, until you compare it to the switch oled and the steam deck oled. The only problem I had with the ally was the battery life and sdcard issues.
Truthfully, Asus was better of making a more powerful handheld instead of just upgrading the battery and moving around the sdcard slot, and thry have the nerve to charge 800 for the same console lol.
You can run basically any game from last 20 years plus Ubisoft, EA, Activision launcher's without any problem's. It's small. On 18 watts and 900p runs 99% games over 50fps and its silent. My favorite handheld. Battery life is biggest issues but for price of one game you can get 65w power bank. Will preorder Ally 2.
I agree with this 💯, I had the deck and was like "hey I can play a bunch of indie games" the moment I put in BG3 the thing looked horrible. Ally allows me to use Xbox game pass and stream my Xbox while also playing PS5 games via steam. Not to mention the fact that it runs AAA games amazingly. The battery life sucks but I'm always near an outlet so it's not that big of a factor. Perfect to game on when you have kids.
It's fine for things up until the start of the PS4 gen. So about 2013/14 or so. After that it starts to struggle.

I have the Steam Deck OLED, it's not a lie.
I can run Horizon Zero Dawn at like 720p low, but it often struggles and stutters. That came out in 2017, so no, my statement is 100% accurate.
It's a nice device, but let's not oversell it.

This argument is flawed because it generalizes a few negative experiences to everyone. Just because some people had bad experiences with Asus doesn't mean their customer service is universally bad. If I tell you I had a great warranty claim experience, does that suddenly make Asus a great company again? We shouldn't base our opinions on a handful of cases when there are millions of customers who may have had different experiences.

I'm finally starting to like my ROG Ally. It was rough in the beginning but it's a pretty smooth experience despite the SD card situation.
The ASUS page for this device's RMAs has already gone live.

As a huge fan of Steam/SteamOS/Big Picture.... the Armory Crate SE took me by surprise. Quick, simple, customizable, gyro and ingests all your games regardless of launcher. Additionally, the Command Center is very helpful. Current state is very good! I love to tweak and use reshade (extra sharpen + AIS) to clean up 720p image that looks just as good as 1080P (unsharpened). Very happy with Asus Rog Ally Z1 extreme (except battery).
I am just hoping you can fit the new battery into the older model.

There are many new AMD APUs.
I like they improved the battery on this device that is the main draw back on the og version i think. But i dont think it is worth to buy a new one if you already have the og. I will wait for next gen come out and see.

The battery life of all these hand held PC’s is what was holding me back from getting one. The ROG Ally was the one I wanted but I couldn’t with how poor the battery life was. I want to play on the couch and in the kitchen and I do not want to have to be tethered to the power outlet the whole time. It needs to be able to play some AAA titles for 3+ hrs before I have to plug in the power. All the reviews I had seen say it does in 60-90mins. Hopefully the ally x fixes that.
They have already hinted it will have a bigger battery. The Ally non extreme is a complete failure as I've seen them at Sam's Club for $375. I believe they are stopping the production of the non extreme and instead Ally X with more ram and bigger battery will be the second option. From their hints it will at least be a 60 wh battery which will be a little heavier.
I agree 100% with you that I want my wireless devices including PC handheld to be wireless while I'm using them.
It won't. The only handheld PC with good battery is the Deck OLED. Otherwise get an Android handheld which offer amazing battery life but you are limited to emulation (yarr!...especially Switch), Android games, and streaming PC games. Don't know if it can stream console games but I don't care about consoles
I mean, if you're on a sofa, you're probably fairly easily able to just use an plug socket. In the kitchen, I doubt you need 3 hours.

@@user-ds8rj2vc4v I can understand what you mean but I don’t want to be tethered to the wall to use a portable device or have to go plug it in after every short gaming session. While it is rare that my gaming sessions are more than 30-90mins at a time. I want to be able to move around my house without bringing my charger from room to room. I’d like to be able to take it with me when I take my kids to practice, speech therapy or while I am waiting to pick them from school or other events. In my case, I don’t own or currently play many light weight indie games but I have somewhat of an extensive library of AAA games over the past 10+yrs. If I have to plug it in everywhere I go, that usb port is going to wear out somewhat quickly. I currently use a Nintendo switch oled and it’s 3-4hrs is acceptable but its performance and frame rate leave something to be desired in the more graphically intensive games. Everyone is going to have their preferences with how they want to use their device and that’s ok. My preference is to have a portable device that I can pick up and set down multiple times a day without having to return it to a charger each time that plays AAA game for 3hrs or more. If ASUS can deliver close to the 3hr mark for AAA games with the ally x then I will most likely buy it.
Steam deck is a Linux distro that boots into steam big picture mode. Aside from suspending game play, what other feature does it have that can’t be created by booting the ally into big picture ?
Suspending is a deal breaker for handheld.
You can control things like FPS limit at the OS level, Linux has way, way less overhead than Windows, you don't need to hunt for drivers or updates, and you can sniff the fan.
@@GreaterPhenom hmm the overall compatibility being 100% and then all of the other stores being also available absolutely trump sniffing the exhaust for me. I love using game pass and Fortnite on mine. Don’t get me wrong I have a steam deck too, but as some one who knows how to use computers, the ally smokes it.
@@jaffaman99Biggest issue for me is how poor quality the Asus feels like. The sticks are way to loose, not easily user serviceable, and Asus kind of just sucks at RMA ( Gamers Nexus ). It pretty hit or miss if your unit is good. I’m also super tech savvy and don’t mind thinking with things.
@@GreaterPhenomagreed on the overhead part. A 7 watt game takes 17 watt on the ally. Sometimes more depending on the game.
Using a Bluetooth connection a cell phone can be used in place of a mouse and keyboard. Not an end all solution but a lot better and helps with portability.

In less than two month I had ally with me, I already beat at least 6 games, some old, some really new like RE4, which either PS5 nor Xbox made me do, I don’t take it outside, mainly plugged when I’m playing.
I need this to have thunderbolt 4 egpu support. Probably won't but I'll just hope
At least usb 4 but I think it's not even USB 4. I know usb 4 isn't as good as occulink or thunderbolt but usb4 would've at least provided more options
It'd be great if they could emulate the Steam Deck and try to focus on having a 'console' like experience. Having to navigate Windows on the Ally is extremely unpleasant. Especially since the damn thing doesn't even have a trackpad.

At the performance tier any of these devices offer with AAA games I'd rather stream from my PC tbh. It's the main use for my SD these days.

Pretty much every competitive online game or MMO doesn't work on Steam Deck. And it's not just games, lauchers like GOG, Epic, Ubisoft, EA, etc, none of them work on Steam Deck.
@@sophieedel6324 This is false. I've personally have played games from other launchers , GOG and Epic. It's the anti-cheat software that doesn't allow you to play game using Linux so while the games are playable on the Steam Deck but you must duel boot Windows which is a shame since Microsoft recently reveal how much they care about gamers.

This is the best value miniPC! I use this as my animation workstation and it is fast. It is also a killer for presentation with a wireless mouse. People just love it when I rip it out :)
Don't buy this for mobile game. It suck! But if you already have a laptop, buy this and turn it into a desktop.
It can play almost all AAA gaming 30+ frame rate. Switch no problem! If you want a mobile game device - add a rg35xx, I do 90% gaming on this thing.
I enjoy the Lenovo Legion Go and the screen is beautiful. In fairness my hands are huge so the Go is comfortable for me.

My Ally locked me out the first evening I’ve got it because windows hello bugged the hell out and refused to accept my fingerprint, pin or password. The hells of fixing it with a mouse and keyboard on that small screen… 😂

I have rog ally. I find battery life irrelevant- I mainly game on high end laptop. Needs plugging in. I plug in rog ally - or use power bank. I don’t spend hrs on my rog ally. These portable devices are to play things when not on your main gaming machine. I don’t regard them as replacement. Often only play for an hour or 1.5 hrs. It’s ideal. Toyed with steam deck but using proton looks so much more complicated to set up. I literally switch on my rog ally and play. Have been playing red dead/ lords of fallen / assassins creed/witcher/ hogwarts/ cyberpunk- plug and play - dead easy.

No you haven't. ChimeraOS is not SteamOS. You don't get features of SteamOS like quick resume from sleep.
@@Unicornpirate I've installed Bazzite and resume works exactly the same as it does on Steam Deck. Same with plugins and every other thing you can do on Deck. Sure it's not "SteamOS" but tomato tomato
Running the latest and greatest in a portable form factor is certainly neat, but I really don't understand why people would buy something like this for an objectively worse experience with those games. For me the portable PCs shine brightest when running older titles exceptionally well. There's a ton of games I bought on Switch that I have repurchased on Deck and it's almost night and day. (Sakuna: Of price and Ruin and Monster Hunter Rise being two big standouts.

Guys you are way too hard on things you don't like. I have a steam deck. And I love it. I also have a rog Ally and I love it. But if we're being real here, the rog Ally crushes the steam deck when it comes to performance. And you can't beat the screen. It is really good. Although you do have to turn the brightness up. So I really don't agree with trashing
The rog ally. By having both of them, I get the best of both worlds. The steam integration of the steam deck + the the ease of use of Windows and being able to use any launcher to play my games.

No point getting this Ally X. Asus treating this like their ROG laptops. Release a new version every year with minor improvements but still running garbage software paired with horrible customer service. Don't think for a second that because this has a bigger battery you will get close to Steamdeck OLED levels of battery life. You will probably go from less than 1 hour on the original Ally to and hour 10 mins on this new one. Valve treats the Deck like a console releasing a new one in a few years. Next year you will see an Ally 2.

The Ally is a PC in handheld form that plays games. I love this thing. If you know how to use a PC this thing is easy to use. I dont get the hate outside of the poor battery life. I sold my deck as I dont want to play my games at low settings and I need access to gamepass natively.

First, I wanted a Ally instead of a Steam Deck, but then they launched the Deck OLED and I was team Valve again. Then it started to rain rumors on "ROG Ally 2" with OLED and I was hyped - but then they announced an announcement during a live stream and was super dissapointed by this mess. Same sceen tech and vague upgrades are not enough for me to want this instead of a Ally X. Team Valve ftw!
and nobody who's used the internet in the last month will buy it and rightly so. I will never, ever buy a product from that piece of shit company ever again even though I've had great experiences with their motherboards.

Valve pave the way for PC handhelds like the Ally to be released at which price point needed to be reach. Asus was no doubt looking to get into the handheld market but Valve reveal there was a market for PC handhelds if you can get the price low enough.

Ally was so bad with battery life they had to make this one to compensate because running AAA games your lucky to get an hour, they moved the SD Card so the thing doesn't fry itself and enjoy the extremely crappy support where Asus will hold your device hostage until you pay stupid amounts of money, and if you don't expect to get a box of scraps back to so you can assemble it yourself, plus no trackpads, no sale from me. So I'd rather stick with Valve because at least their support is good.

@@sophieedel6324 One of the main complaint of the Steam Deck from the beginning is it's terrible battery life. The fact you admit it's the same means you agree with Steam Deck owners. Valve listened and greatly improved the battery life with the OLED Deck. Also note the LCD Deck running at 15 TDP is not efficient just like Ally at 25 tdp on battery.
Set the tdp to 10-12 improves the battery life over the Ally with little performance loss (often less than 10%). Thus is practice the LCD Deck battery still last longer while the ally performance drops hard lower than 15 tdp.
I feel the same way of Ally fans bashing laptops which can outperform the Ally. Even my 7 year old laptop can outperform the ally in the majority of games.
Ally fans tells me laptop weighs a ton , I can't play games in bed on a laptop which I've done for years before the Ally or the Steam Deck.
I have to explain to Ally fans I don't have to have my laptop actually in my lap to game on it.

The GN drama wasn't a fluke either, thousands of Asus product user are getting dissapointed, actually the Real User experienced it, not the fanboy... so if you're having a great time with the product, good on you. Because other users are having issues whether it's on sofware or hardware level
