This was 2019. I was there at the Q&A in Chicago. He said so much more than what’s been discussed here. He wasn’t a fan of scream 3 and only redeeming factor was Parker Posey. He also said Billy & Stu murdered Maureen as a form of sexual pleasure. They got off on her death and that’s why they went back for more a year later. He’s great at conventions, if you ever see tickets make sure you get tickets.

Well, I respect Kevin Williamson for being the creator of the SCREAM franchise, but goodness, that is a dumb reason to kill someone. I'm glad they went with the Scream 3 version we have now. I prefer to hear that Billy and Stu killed Maureen because she and Hank caused his family to tear apart and he went for Sidney to seek revenge against Maureen for being Maureen's daughter. This is a good motive. I don't want to hear about sexual pleasures in a SCREAM movie. That's too similar to a Lifetime show, yuck!

I always felt like Maureen would have been a sloppy killing because it was Billy and Stu’s first (not to mention the rage Billy had pent up from his mom abandoning him due to Maureen)
Which is what leads me to believe that Sidney couldn't have been home during the murder. How could she not have heard such a brutal and gruesome (albeit sloppy) stabbing like that? Could it be that she was just getting home and came upon the scene just as Billy was leaving in Cotton's coat? Do we know how late it was? What door did she see him go out of? Back? Front? SOOOO many questions! I fear we'll never get straight answers... 🤷♂️
@@Essenceofblood5238 if I remember correctly she was with Tatum that night & Neil was out of town for work & Maureen had just finished cheating w Cotton & he left his coat. I have no idea which door she would’ve seen Billy come out of but my guess would be back. You gotta be real brave to cheat then let your side guy use the front door lol 😂
A "Ghostface" style killing would be cool cinematically, but Williamson's vision makes the most sense from a character, psychological and real-world perspective. Its a common observation that the serial killer's first murder is often a little clumsy and sloppy so it'd make sense that they got it over with relatively quickly compared to the cat and mouse games they developed later.
Also for the movies, the movies where based off that true story in Florida so it only makes sense

It can be both. Maureen’s death was orchestrated by Roman but carried out by Billy and Stu the way Kevin described. Stab 3 is fiction, so they scripted it as a Ghostface style killing.
Thank you - so glad you mentioned this. Maureen's Death scene in Stab 3 was purely fictitious. With Maureen, Billy and Stu dead - there's no one who could have provided details as to the exact blow by blow encounter. All they would have is police / detective guesswork based on evidence plus Gale's book. Stab 3 would have used poetic licence to 'write in' the ghostface elements to keep it in keeping with Stab 1 and Stab 2.
Yeah just like when Stab came out Heather Graham’s Casey Becker was in the shower getting naked when in real life (the actual Woodsboro events) that was far from the truth

@@sleekelegancesuave Laurie Metcalf's performance as Mrs Loomis overdid it a bit, Roman was whiny, played the victim and his whole existenice was a retcon as was Maureen's Scream 3 backstory to justify his existence. Charlie was a simp. Mickey acted overdramatic when revealing Mrs Loomis as the second killer and Richie and Amber's motive sucked. After Billy and Stu Jill was the most realistic killer since some psychos will kill for fame.

I was always under the impression that Sidney was home when her mom was being attacked and that she looked over the banister and saw billy walking out. Also, never assumed they wore a ghostface mask because of that reason. She saw someone who looked like cotto
I assumed she was coming home from a hangout and before walking in she saw who she assumed was Cotton with blood on his coat then notice Maureen's corpse in her bedroom
What I’ve always wondered is if Billy AND Stu were actually there. Sidney saw one man walking out of the house. Which means she didn’t see Cotton walk out for some reason. She saw Billy. So where was Stu? Waiting nearby to drive Billy away from the scene? Did they somehow use Cotton’s car? Would Cotton not have noticed his car was gone, if that’s the case?

Well, that was never explicitly stated. As per Gale, he left his coat there after having sex w/ Maureen. Never said it WASN'T that night. He was drunk, after all (again, per Cotton through Gale).
Couldn't it be possible that Billy (and Stu?) were staking out the place and then snuck in to do the deed right after Cotton left? Maybe the coat was a serendipitous moment that Billy just came across and took advantage of because he saw Sidney coming home right after Maureen was dead?
Unfortunately, I think what Williamson will never say is that he NEVER properly planned Maureen's murder through in his own mind because he never bothered giving it too much thought. To him, it was a vital (albeit innocuous) catalyst to set the story in motion (especially when coming full circle by the end), but ultimately nothing more than a background plot point. That's my take at least. 🤷♂️

But he says he went home after but left his jacket that’s where Billy comes in after she just got done fucking lmaoo that’s why they said she was raped and murdered but she was just murdered not raped, why would billy sex the person who he hated so much for driving his family apart
Hopefully the Scream franchise gets a prequel one day as Maureen’s secrets seem to be are what lead to the events of the original trilogy and heavily influenced the events in Scream 4. Maybe Kevin would like to write it since it was his vision that created the original trilogy.

I personally never got the impression Maureen had a ghostface call. From what I understand, Cotten come around to the Prescott house to have sex with Maureen whilst Sidney was also home. I’d imagine she snuck him in while Neil was on a business trip. We know that Cotton was drunk and they had slept together. I’d imagine Billy was watching their every move and at some point after Cotton left, Billy snuck in and covered her mouth stabbing her in the bed whilst Maureen tried to reach for the phone. Leaving wearing Cottons coat when Sidney would’ve looked out the window to assume it was him. So for me, I personally thought the crime scene in Scream 3 fit the events we’d very briefly heard in Scream.

This fits. The mask was for show, when they began their spree a year later. They would've wanted to dispatch of Maureen quickly, especially since they weren't confident they'd get away with it. Plus, since Sidney was the sole witness to seeing Cotton supposedly leave, they weren't in costume, they were wearing his jacket, as stated. Guess they went out different doors and she only saw one of them. Plus Maureen would've known who they were and might've called out their names if they took too long with her. They probably timed it so Cotton left, then they killed her, then Sidney saw one of them leaving as she arrived home or something.
Given the fact of reality the movies are based of I think Billy and Stu were strangers to ghostface at that time. They killed Maureen just being them and very quickly and then everything was getting bigger like in real life serial killers behave. The first murders are clumsy and fast and then they improve and incorporate their signature

Gale mentioned that Cotten Wery s coat was used to frame him. Which I guess means Kevin Williamson s original plan for killing Maureen still went along with the scene in a way .
honestly, Kevin Williamson's and Ehren Kruger's visions are both unique but can be mashed together if executed well
So, let's ask the REAL important question about Billy & Stu - Who was the top?
To me this version is canon. It's a lot more realistic and literally the man who created Scream intended it to be this way. and scream 3 is just bad

Probably, Stu and Billy thought they needed to kill one person so they were unmasked.

I've heard about the Gainesville ripper and even studies it for a bit and I'm not sure if you mentioned this in your video about it but the Gainesville ripper killed three people I think a year before the Gainesville murdures happened

You have to take the Stab 3 set with a gigantic grain of salt. Real life movies based on true events often change things. Plus, we know that Gale changed Kenny's death in The Woodsboro Murders. We just have no reason to assume that the Stab 3 set is 100% accurate
Nah in my opinion, her death was prolly Billy on his own, since he hated her for the affair with his father. And the look on stus face when he told Sidney this kinda tells me stu wasn't present for it,nor knew why he killed her other then the game he was playing after including stu in on it a year later. I could be wrong tho since. But I believe it was Billy walking out with cottons coat.

I’m gonna be honest with you. In terms of the story in Scream 3, and with everything pretty much revolving around Maureen Prescott, I was hoping they would at least shed some light on how she actually was murdered. I know it was Billy and Stu that did it but how exactly did they end up killing her is my question? I know Cotton’s jacket was mentioned at one point, and Stu was trying to look like Cotton thus probably wearing his jacket which why Sidney framed Cotton cause she thought it was him when in reality. It was Stu cause there’s no way Billy as handsome as he is would look like Cotton, and I’m sure she’d know the difference.
Actually it was Billy who wore the coat. Remember that cotton had long hair. Billy has long hair, too. Stu has short hair. It couldn't be stu. It's billy, because sidney only saw the back and assumed that it was cotton, because Billy and cotton have the same hairstyle.

I liked the way it is, with Sid being trick to it being Cotton cause she had to be the one set things in motion for them to get away with killing spree a year later by putting Cotton in prison.

I personally don’t like it when all the questions are revealed and Maureen’s death is one of them. Everything the movies gave us can make our imagination think of how the two killed her. From Gale’s reporting of her death to the stab 3 set piece. At the end of the day it’s a nice detail to know cause it doesn’t ruin anything.

Never have thought they used ghostfsce tactics to kill Maureen. Billy being in the Ghostface costume makes no sense when hes trying to make himself look like cotton. That being said her phone next to her in the scream 3 flashback scene might either have been hee trying to call 911 while being attacked or calling Sydney to tell her her friends were there (before they attacked her)
So it was also mentioned that Cotton was seen leaving from seeing Mrs. Prescott. Like was Cotton friends with Sidney's Mom or having relations with her. Cause when Sidney was talking to Gale in the first movie saying she saw Cotton leave and Gale said no you saw someone else leave wearing Cotton's jacket..

They mention it many times in the trilogy that Cotton was sleeping with her. We even see footage of them at a hotel

I think Scream 7 should be mainly about Maureen Prescott's murder by Billy and Stu, and even have Roman in the movie guiding them, and helping them pull out off.
While I think this would be a good story to tell, I don't think it should be Scream 7. I think it should be the rumored Scream series heading to Paramount +. A limited series can lend itself to more character development. More background on Roman, more building of Maureen's affairs with Mr. Loomis and Cotton. More story on Billy convincing Stu etc.

Well I always thought Roman planted the seed in Billy´s head but Billy had to figure it out on his own. You know convincing Stu to help him ( imagine THAT casual conversation : hey bro, what you doin on Friday? Wanna help me kill my gf´s mom? Yeah, cool.) in case he needed to frame someone, when and how, someone else to frame very obviously to the police so they don't look into it further, gel alibis , get rid of evidence and so on and so on. I never once believed Roman had further involvement bc IF Billy was caught what would have stoped him from ratting Roman out? Plus Stu would fold and tell it was Billy´s Idea.... at least I believe that.

Not saying it’s cannon but I would wonder if maybe Stu was “confused” like he wasn’t sure what he was when it came to liking women or men or both. Like what if he had feelings for Billy and Billy sensed it and used that to manipulate Stu into doing what he wants. Plus everyone thinks Stu killed Casey but Tatum confirmed he was with her that night and Ghostface at one point chokes Casey and then puts the knife high in the air right before stabbing her…… Billy almost does the exact same thing to Sidney until Gale shoots him. Plus we know Billy was the one who killed Tatum meaning Billy killed both girls Stu was romantically involved with. Plus let’s say if Billy really did used Stu’s feelings for manipulation I can see him hating Casey because her and Stu did date and they obviously had common interests (horror movies) and may have even had a real connection (threatening Billy’s hold over Stu). Plus if that were the case I could see Casey leaving Stu because of his toxic friendship with Billy. All just a thought not saying it’s cannon. Plus all the gay shade at Billy couldn’t have just came out of nowhere 🤣🤣🤣
Well, Roman did give Billy a few pointers (a partner to pin the crime on in case things went south was one stated)
This is why I can’t wait to film my independent version of this story. I wrote my script on Maureen’s death sometime two years ago but never filmed it. I think it’s time since we will never see it on the big screen

There’s been such a revival to this franchise and I’m here for it. I like to feel like 3 never happened. Also, there HAS to be a prequel to when MP died
The entire Scream franchise would've been awesome if the studio had just let Kevin Williamson do what he originally planned. He had a vision for these movies and with his writing alongside Wes Craven, those films would've been much better. Because after the original, you can tell others influenced the story. Scream 2 was decent with it being Mickey and Mrs. Loomis but Scream 3 is where the franchise started going downhill. I still love Scream 3 just from an acting standpoint but the story was definitely nonsensical and even that film was drastically altered from its original form. It was supposed to be Roman and that girl playing Sidney in the Stab movie. But for some reason, that was changed to just Roman and if you watch the movie closely, you'll see it was simply impossible for Roman to have been everywhere during the whole movie to kill everyone that ended up being killed. Scream 4 and 5 were even worse and I couldn't even finish part 4 the last time I started it. Scream 5(2022) was quite possibly the highest potential for a reset and if Williamson had done the movie, I think it would've been much better. Killing Dewey was a mistake and if they needed the shock value, it should've been Gale Weathers who died because her character has been irrelevant to the story since the original movie. Maybe the next film will be better but if Williamson is not involved, it'll likely be disappointing too. Studios should never take a franchise away from the original vision of the writer. The same thing happened with many other horror movies such as Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th and the same outcome happened. Same issue with the Halloween movies too.

I always envisioned them going over to her house with a video camera, with no plan. flipping the breakers on and off to scare her. Billy rings the door bell to distract her from Stu coming in the window. they eventually kill Maurine, and video tape it. Also stu video taping them in the car afterward filled with adrenaline, Billy is driving. bragging about how they just killed someone
That's silly. Them making the lights flash on and off would risk Sidney coming out of her room to see what was happening

The only version of events that matters is the version of events that this man created when he initially set out to write the story because a they make the most sense and be they informed how he told the story. It makes no sense for things to be different. And I have never liked the idea that Roman was the one orchestrating the whole thing.

Tbh I don't need any of the sequels, the original classic is enough for me, has the unforgettable opening scene, the original plot formula (which got old by part 3), and a perfect blend of gore, humor, suspense and paranoia. Billy was the mastermind behind it all, Roman Bridger doesn't exist

Maybe the phone was by her because like you said despite being planned it was sloppy, and she managed to try and get to the phone and tried to call for help?? Or maybe it was both Ghostface taunted her she had the phone with her as she was dying and with her last strength tried to call for help and was finished off. I went back and rewatched the movies and I'm finding all these things I missed haha
If they killer as ghostface sidney would’ve never saw Billy (cotton) leaving they didn’t put on Ghostface costume til a year later on the killing spree by then knew they’d get away with it since at that point they’d got away with Maureen murder
I would say that I’d love a prequel to Scream just for Liev, Scott, Matthew, Skeet, David and others to return de-aged but this being left open to interpretation was always better to me. Not everything needs “explaining” but it’s not exactly the baddest thing to have happened or be explained.

I think with all the movies released and it coming to a close now (supposedly)... with all the plot details and imperfections fixed the right way they could make a killer movie into the original trilogy as intended. 😊 however a 99% part of me doesn't want to either. You can't beat the original or replace those actors either. It's perfect. It could of been the only one and I'd be perfectly happy. 😊

I could see them not wearing the ghost face outfit at that time but at same Time I could see them having the mask not necessarily the whole outfit but something to cover their fave at least til its done then stick it in their pocket or something and leave maybe that was stus thing and he left. Billy's thing was taking cottons jacket wearing it when leaving I guess so Sidney could see the jacket from afar and say oh its cotton who did it. What kind of jacket did cotton wear so shed recognize it like that lol. I'm saying from afar like maybe she's upstairs looking out window seeing him run away rather than I always thought it'd be walking out the door or like a few feet cause even if they have similar haircuts how did she mistake her boyfriend for cotton. Was Sidney and friends always the intended victims in scream movie. Did cause she acted differently made him say dang I want to kill her and Stu like yeah there's people I wanna kill too and they started hatching it out. Cause you know they got such a thrill out of it that they'd want to do it again but be more elaborate but was Sidney the start of those plans or was it already in planning stages and he kept talking about het and finally eureka moment and said shell be the main target lol. Obviously still got questions about it like where was cotton. He had fling with her I guess he left or tried to leave but passed out in his car. When did billy steal his jacket. He must have been wearing it when killing Marlene right to get blood on it . Maybe they waited outside til he left but didn't. I'm guessing he wasn't wearing his jacket they took that killed Marlene and escaped but in the escape Sidney heard something and looked out window seeing him leaving wearing the jacket goes back and finds her mom. Or did they lock Sidney room or barracding the door so Sidney heard whay was happening tried yo get out but couldn't get out and by the time she did she's going past window sees billy cotton escaping finds mom. Or did she find mom first went for help or for another phone and sees billy cotton escape. Are we sure this is accurate. The stab movies seem more over the top vs what really happened. Like they take license with stuff. Look at beginning of stab and beginning of scream the cliff notes are same with phone call some lines and him killing her bit the details are mostly off. She wasn't taking a shower lol he wasn't on roof don't think there's a lighting storm outside lol. They weren't there so they might not know but you'd think there's be evidence and police would say this is what happened which be more accurate than this lol. Sounds like gale spiced it up a bit . Maybe she did same with this if she even wrote this in scream three lol.
Kevin’s version is wah better. Scream 3’s whole plot was so not believable and ruined a little bit of the original scream. I try to forget scream 3 cus of the bad acting and plot. Sydney’s wig and gales bangs all just scare me.

I wish we can see a flashback of Billy and Stu doing Maureens kill using that perfect D age they did with skeet in part 5. Im sure Many would love to see Stu on the big screen at least in an amazing flashback!

Honestly I didn't like that Roman was supposably the master mind of her death I felt like Billy was the entire time. Because it didn't make sense to me

I Myself Wrote a "Billy, Stu, Maureen" Kill Scene that im Very Pleased with!!! And Knew not to use Ghostface in the Story.
The Writing of Roman, and SCREAM 3 doesn't bother me, but I would have went with Kevin Williamson's Way, over that.
Still think it Sucks he didn't Go into SCREAM 3.
I think either way her murder was truly horrific. A Ghostface type death wouldn’t have worked due to Sydney being home asleep. If she got such a call she would of checked on Sydney and I think they new that. The script version works more and I think is more horrific because we as the audience know how intensely Billy hated Maureen. The Ghostface cat and mouse came after because they wanted more by prolonging the hunt.
