- Despite the age of Scream (1996), there are new things to discover about it every day. Recently, several fans discovered this hidden message in the first Scream installment, written directly by Stu Macher's parents. Today, I take a close look at the image and translate what it actually says.
Thank you for watching the video guys. Don't forget to like & subscribe.

Stu's motive: peer pressure
Stu's actual motive: parents forgot his birthday
max from amazing spiderman 2
@Aspie Symbolism I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thanks. And the dog in the garage actually makes quite alot of sense
@@Swoosh690 wasn’t it a cat? i know there was a cat that ran out through the dog/cat door when tatum was getting beers in the garage and got scared by the yard tools dropping but maybe the family had a never before seen dog too. which is weird cuz it would’ve appeared at the party of somewhere at the house
HOW MANY TIMES DO PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY HIS MOTIVE WAS PEER PRESSURE IT WASNT WHAT HE SAID WAS A LIE CLEARLY PLUS WHY WOULD HE STILL TRY TO KILL SIDNEY AFTER BILLY WAS DEAD NOT THERE TO PEER PRESSURE HIM
@National Sports Entertainment Don't say stupid things.
Yeah I think it's "sorry we missed you today" but I still think it's likely he was neglected and it's poignant that his parents wrote "Be good!' like they knew he was headed on a dark path but they didn't care enough to actually do anything about it
Same, it looks like ‘today.’ Were we even abbreviating birthday to bday in the late 90s?
@@lynseycobden203 we were
@@James_Smith862 I was like 9 when Scream came out, so I can’t remember 😂
@@lynseycobden203 don't worry, I was 17 and I can hardly remember too 🤷♂️
Agreed
Something that's always seemed off to me is the look on Stu's face when Billy revealed that the reason his mother left is because she found out that his father was having an affair with Sidney's mother. Sure, Stu knew that Maureen was whoring around, but it seemed that he didn't know about that particular affair. It's just weird to me because I would think that knowing that would be a good motivation for Stu. If Stu knew that was the reason Billy was hurting, I could see why he so willingly went on the killing spree with him. Otherwise, it almost seems like it was just for funsies on Stu's end.
I think Billy just convinced Stu they were creating their own real life horror film henice Stu's surprise that Billy killed Maureen for sleeping with Hank.
No.
@National Sports Entertainment No, he isn’t autistic. Stop trying to make it something it isn’t.
Bro I just laughed SO hard about the way you said it was all for funsies. Gosh that’s gold. But still that’s how I see it. It was all for funsies.
Yeah i definitely thank he did it for fun and didn’t know about Billy’s motivate beforehand.
Stu’s my favourite ghostface. That’s all I needed to say.
He's coming back
@@trevorwalton5431 Where?
It's just prediction
@@trevorwalton5431 Oh.
Same!
This does add a lot more depth to Stu. I feel like perhaps Stu went along with Billy’s plan not only because he was pressured but also because Billy gave him the attention his parents never did🤷🏽♂️
I agree with this so much more 🙌🏾
Billy said: "Maternal abandonment causes serious deviant behavior." Maybe he told Stu about this and Stu probably found something similar in him, like brother, maybe that was the reason why he killed with Billy...
@@Ad-fu6tj I slowed it down! It said “ Child abandonment causes deviant behaviors “
Maybe Billy and Stu were knocking boots
With the same prostitute
They was giving eachother bjs
"My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me" 🤭
For real life is that true for real life
It’s even funnier that he’s more scared of his parents than if he went to jail (if he survived)
You better hide😶🌫️
Oh wait now I get it Stu said that right
@@Cinnamoroll_129 He was a white youth in the days when the police still sort of ACTED like the police-- he didn't HAVE much to fear from them. Prison would be a whole other matter, but not the cops themselves.
Cool detail! I actually gleaned the opposite from this. I think this was meant to underscore the contrast between Stu and Billy’s home lives - Billy’s being relatively unstable at the time with his mother having recently left. In my opinion, this seems like a sweet note from parents that don’t often miss their child’s birthday (otherwise, I don’t think they would’ve written it at all). At one point during the kitchen scene, Stu even voices that he’s worried his parents will be upset with him and is genuinely surprised at how far Billy takes everything toward the end. I wouldn’t expect these reactions from someone who had the same blood lust as Billy or from someone who was ‘acting out’ as a result of neglectful parents. Just my interpretation!
i agree and genuinely think he was peer pressured into it all and it wasn’t just a joke when he was saying it in the movie along with being sensitive
He was still very disturbed himself. Look at the dolls in the room Sydney jumps out of
I agree. I think Stu lived an average life & contrasts Billy's broken home.
I kind of take the same thing. That his parents were pretty sweet, but with the opposite conclusion on Stu's character. That Stu came from a loving and well-adjusted home, no tragic backstory like Billy, and simply wanted to kill people. He is surprised by Billy's motive speech, meaning he thought they were doing all this for fun.
That’s why Billy chose him because he knew Stu was desperate to belong, to feel wanted.
What better person to manipulate than someone like Stu.
like i commented to someone else he definitely wasnt lying when his motive was peer pressure and that he was sensitive.
Poor Stu.
Is Stu innocent?
@@Riley98414 I think you could answer that question yourself … 😒
Wha- I didn't mean it in a rude way-
I saw this note and came to the same conclusion. I think Stu is a good example of emotional neglect. On the surface it looks like he has it all. Underneath, it’s a different story. Stu was flirting with the dark, curly haired girl at his party while with Tate. Very telling. He appears to have an inability to form real, healthy bonds based on his neglect. Very sad, and yes, more complex than Billy.
Some people have speculated that girl was actually Sam’s mom from scream 5, a cool theory but idk if it’ll be going anywhere
@@shirleysonsproductions6187, I’ve seen that. Not sure about it either, but theories are always fun. :)
@@lane6216 you think Angelina was the second killer in Scream 3 😳, cuz I do
The last message on the note says "Feed the dog" which i guess was also a reference to why they have that doggy door in the garage
It also makes sense as to why just before this scene and after billy had revealed his motive to Sidney, he gestures back to Stu with the knife and says something along the lines of ‘parental abandonment creates deviant behaviour’ or something similar. Shows the Stu really was just messed up and it weren’t 100% his fault, adds more sympathy and depth to him
Plus also both Billy and Stu have something in common, parents neglecting them.
Like others have said, it says, PS Feed the dog. Since we never saw a dog, it must have been with his sister Leslie, who we also never saw.
it might say feed our dog.,but if it says feed the dog why take it to his sisters place
@@canadaman6191 it does say Feed the Dog. He may have taken it to his Sisters because he was having a party and knew what would be having so didn't want it getting in the way.
@@davidhughes4890 thank you
Oh wow as many times as I have seen scream one I never knew stu had a sister. Can you or anyone tell me in what part of the movie in which scene 🎬 was leslie mentioned. 😊 TY!
@@11212barbie She never was. Scream 5 was the first time she was mentioned.
Met Matthew Lillard at Motor city Comic con he was such a fun loving humorous guy and takes time to talk to his fans I told him he was a big inspiration for me as a child and has helped me massively just from watching him on screen he told me I make bad life choices that he was my role model lmao 🤣 Stu macher is one of my favorite characters in cinematic history and the most interesting Ghostface of the whole franchise and goes without saying Matthew played him with so much enthusiasm and energy and I hope to see him in some way shape of form in future Scream sequels possibly 6 or 7 as a Twist Villian still living doubtful but a little bit of fan service wouldn't harm anything I think. 😱
The "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at meee" (lol) line makes sense now. Every time I watched it before I'd look at him and laugh like, REALLY ? .
PS: EVERYONE REMEMBER THE WATER FOUNTAIN SCENE IN SCREAM 1? SIDNEY ASKS "HOW DO YOU GUT SOMEONE?" AND STU REPLIES WITH: "YOU TAKE A KNIFE, AND SLIT 'EM FROM GROIN TO STERNUM" THAT'S EXACTLY HOW DEWEY DIES IN SCREAM 5.
You are the first person I’ve seen notice that besides myself.
Hmm so it might have been Stu that killed Dewey

It says: feed the dog
Edit: it was pretty common to be left alone in the 80s/90s, especially since they were all seniors. As a 96 grad myself, there was absolutely nothing unusual about Stu being alone. All of us were while our parents worked/partied
Seriously, cuz i didn't see that dog. WHERE'S THE DOG, STU??????
This is interesting and something to consider, but Stu was simply unhinged. He was obsessed with horror movies and wanted to make his own; he even wanted a sequel. People often portray Stu as Billy's whipped lovesick puppy, but he was having more fun with the spree than Billy was. And I don't think the _"Be good!"_ was his parents brushing off his feelings, but more like they know their son is an annoying weirdo, and they don't want him getting into any trouble.
*Edit:* I'm pretty sure it says “you today,” not “your bday.”
No, it only says "you" and the letter B is obvious here
I appreciate how you actually told us what the image said i had no idea ngl 😭
Well, here’s my analysis of Stu as a character. What brought Stu and Billy together was a lack of parental guidance or dysfunction in the family. Billy’s mom left because his dad was cheating with Sydney’s mom. Billy’s dad doesn’t seem to be too interested or involved in his life. Stu’s parents don’t seem to be too involved in his life either. Stu’s motive is the attention and fun he gets from making other people suffer. He bonds with Billy over this, and is desperate for approval. You can tell that Stu is bored with his life as well. He didnt handle rejection very well, and I believe that’s his motive for becoming Ghostface with Billy Loomis.
For those who say stu is the scarier and more evil killer, i disagree. Stu didnt kill tatum and randy when he had the chance. if you think about it, stu only tries to kill ppl he has beef with
This might also give some more backstory to Mrs. Loomis’ closing monologue in Scream 2. About how they always want to blame the parents. This might tell how Stu’s parents may have been scrutinized for neglecting him.
You got the note right except it definitely says "missed you today" which makes much more sense because there is never a birthday mentioned
PS:It says "PS,Feed our dog"
Weird distinction they say our dog suggesting a disconnect between them and Stu
Also it probably means although they had a cat because we hear it, theyv likely have a dog and that is a doggy door
I’ve seen this movie a hundred times and never notice this stuff
In a way, Stu was another victim of Billy. However he was still psychotic, it's just his backstory explains why he laughs at everything and that is because he has been isolated his whole life.
Stu has attachment issues because of his parents and was sent over the edge when Casey left him. 😔
I believe it reads: "Sorry we missed you today. We'll see you Sunday. Be Good! Love, Mom and Dad PS: Feed the dog". I don't believe it says "bday" as there is an "r" missing in the previous word: "you". Otherwise, it would be "we missed you bday". Just my two-pence. Thanks for bringing attention to the message on the whiteboard, I hadn't thought about it/noticed it before.
Yup. Also. I don't think it was birthday at all. I believed it was something else when I first saw it. I mean, there's no way birthday was used as "bday" back in 1996.
That note showed his parents trust him on his own so they think.
Poor Stu. I think Billy also manipulated him. Not to mention Casey dumped him
It says ps feed the dog
There’s the dog door in the garage too.
However we don’t ever see or hear the dog ever.
I wonder where it was?
@@BeyondTheMask filming with a dog around in scenes would have taken away from the scenes so I’m sure it’s just supposed to be implied that there’s a dog there.
Unless we’re meant to assume that stu killed it.
Otherwise we learn that stus parents missed his birthday, trust him alone in the house, AND trust him to take care of the dog.
That’s what it looks like to me too
Same it’s PS. Feed the dog. You get a better look at it when he’s on the phone w/ SIDNEY.
@@BeyondTheMask He and Billy probably killed it.
Looks more like they say "sorry we missed you today" rather than "your bday"
This video alone is why I love beyond the mask so much
I'd love for you to do a video on the actual motive and specifically how much Stu knew. Everytime I watch Scream and Billy says his motive, there is a moment where Stu has the look of surprise on his face. I haven't seen anyone do a video on whether Stu knew about Maureene and Billy's dad or not
yes I noticed it too
Except, wasn’t it revealed in scream 3 that he did know? Or was it just Billy that knew?
@@elysecatmull3404 It was never confirmed if he knew about the affair. It was common knowledge that her mom slept around just not with who so there is a chance Stu didn't know. I'm only taking his facial expression to suggest it
Looks like it says “Sorry we missed you today” as others pointed out.
The bottom says:
PS Feed the dog
(?)
Stu's dog is gonna be ghostface in Scream 6.
wht that would be weird
@@bluestarthewlfdeadchannel3719 No it's okay, he'll be your new favorite. Just watch.
@@zacfaller7870 i watched New scream 6 cast revealed and i hope the actor of Jane's mom from Jane The Virgin isn't the killer but a killer dog would be interesting lol
It looked more like "sorry we missed you today" which to me kind of feels like they left for a weekend trip early in the morning while they assumed Stu was still sleeping. I think his parents loved him and I think he interacted with them enough, otherwise why would he care if they were mad at him? I also don't really think they were especially neglectful, they just weren't paying enough attention. I think a lot of parents would think they can trust their 17-18 year old to do the right thing, and maybe they assumed he was out canoodling with his girlfriend or whatever, but they probably didn't think he was out literally murdering his peers.
Just wanna add how in Scream 5, its revealed that Stu actually had a sister who wasn't shown in the movie and probably tagged along with their parents to wherever they were, showing there was obviously some favouritism if they decided to bring her and just leave Stu at home which kinda shows how neglected Stu really was
I may sound repetitive, but I really do love the way you peel the layers back in these movies. I have seen Scream multiple times and never really focused in on this.
That's a good theory about Stu. It solidifies that distressed response when Syd asked him what his motive was. (I may be wrong, I haven't watched it in a while. "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me..."
If he wasn't so impressionable and emotionally burned, he probably wouldn't much have cared what his parents thought.
Stu was a serial killer, he may or may not have already killed before teaming up with Billy.
Billy was out for revenge.
Billy used Stu to kill those around Sidney, so when he finally played his hand to get revenge on Sydney there wouldn't be a clear and obvious motive.
"Motives are incidental" - Because Billy was making it look that way, his motive was clear.
"Horror movies don't make serial killers, they make serial killers, more creative" - If Roman (Scream 3) Was present at some point in Wood-borough and met Billy, as they would have wanted revenge on the same person, Roman getting it on Maurine leaving Billy to get it on Sydney. Could this be Billy highlighting that, just like Roman done for him, he done for Stu. Getting the costume, playing the games. Billy would always have the phone and Stu always had the knife, until his party when I think he made Billy kill Tatum as he became sick of doing the dirty work.
Randy says; "What is Leatherface doing here" - Stu has a look on his face which seems colder than usual and more calculating.
The irony being, Billy has sort of become Leatherface in this scene, doing what Stu has told him to do, which would have been a role reversal until that point as it would have been Stu playing the role of "forced" killer even though he probably would have done this on his own without Billy.
The original is still a classic until this day
That probably explains ‘my mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me’. Some people say “oh obviously I’d be more scared of my parents than the police” but I think he meant it.
Most of the parents in the Scream franchise are either absentee or single. These characters all come from broken homes and families. The only one that I can think of that had stable parents was Casey Becker, and of course that family became broken after the beginning scene of the first Scream film.
Wow I’ve never noticed that before! That gives us a whole new insight into Stu’s character. I’ll be sure to look out for anymore next time I watch Scream!
Stu just wanted approval from his parents. That's why when the final scene was going on, in tears he said "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!"
It says P.S feed the dog
Stu has a dog?! 😱
@@BeyondTheMask makes sense, they have a pet door in the garage.
? Does he I never noticed
To me it looks like the note says "Sorry we missed you today". It looks like they wrote "you today" not "your bday" and I think it says P.S. Feed the dog, even though we never saw one lol. Also Stu goes on to say "my mom and dad are going to be so mad at me" now if they missed his Birthday and neglected him would he really care if they were mad!?. That line wouldn't really make sense if that was the case. This is just my opinion though.
"Ps. Feed the Dog"
I feel like there is no mention of Stu's Birthday because no one really knows when it is. Probably because they don't care to know. When everyone found out about a party everyone was quick to show, but once there was a dead principle, everyone was quick to leave. His gf doesn't even mention it coming up that week. Which may indicate that she doesn't know herself, which is probably why he was ok with her dying too.
Now you're gonna have to solve the mystery of where Stu's dog was the entire time of the final act house party lol
Probably with Leslie
I also think it says "Sorry we missed you today" or "Sorry we missed you, baby" and the bottom says "PS- Feed the dog" Good eyes though to the person who pointed it out.
PS. Feed the dog 🤷🏻♂️
Lol Casey's murder was Billy's birthday present to Stu
First off AMAZING EYES 👀🤣 and since we’re paying attention to details, can we observe the fact that when Billy confessed the affair his dad and Sidney’s mom had to Sidney in the kitchen, Stu looked surprised himself? It wasn’t a sarcastic look but a big reveal to him as if Billy wasn’t completely honest with him from the beginning until he confessed
PS perfect ending for the video 🫠😂
Sure I think Stus parents know him very well.. Because 'Be good' is really standing out and has a '!' to show that this is a point which is important to the parents. Stus also mentions "my parents gonna kill me" so he knows that hey are strict and maybe at least his dad is maybe violant torwards Stu. Even in this moment as a serial killer with multiple victims he's afraid of his parents. I also think it's tragic because Stu is not important to his parents but important enough to be strict on him and sure scare him as kid. His parent's doesn't want him, Casey didn't want him and he was easy to manipulate by Billy. This also explains his child like behavior in front of his friends. Maybe he got a smack or two for acting like this at home.
I'm pretty sure it says 'sorry we missed you today' but yeah in general they don't seem to be around much and he was clearly lonely and having a broken/absent home makes sense why stu got to attached to Billy
Stuff like this is why this channel rules.
It looks like the bottom part says p.s feed the dog
I think it says "PS, Food for Day"... there seems to be a coupon clipped up next to the note.
Wow I never noticed this. Thank you for the shoutout to the Scream community, despite people on reddit, we adore your content.
If Dewey was so RELATABLE for people, STU IS AS WELL!!! HIS RETURN WOULD BE SO EFFING COOL!!! I believe HE'S STILL ALIVE. I WANT HIM TO COME BACK FOR REVENGE ON SIDNEY. NO WAY SHE GETS AWAY WITH DROPPING A FREAKING TV ON HIS HEAD. I WANT HIM TO BE THE MASTERMIND OF EVERY MOVIE FROM 1-5. I WHOLE HEARTEDLY BELIEVE IT WAS STU THAT KILLED DEWEY IN THE HOSPITAL IN SCREAM 5. THAT WHOLE SCENE JUST HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FEEL THAN ANY OF THE OTHERS THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE!!! THE MANNERISMS OF GHOSTFACE IN THAT SCENE JUST POINT TO STU. AND ANOTHER THING, LOOK AT HOW MUCH TALLER GHOSTFACE IS COMPARED TO AMBER(WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE ONE IN THE COSTUME). MIKEY MADISON STANDS 5'3. DAVID ARQUETTE STANDS 5'11. MATTHEW LILLARD STANDS 6'4. COME ON PEOPLE!!! AND ALSO NOTICE WHILE STRUGGLING WITH GHOSTFACE IN THAT SCENE, DEWEY MANAGES TO OPEN UP THE ROBE IN THE FRONT, AND WE SEE GHOSTFACE WEARING A BULLETPROOF VEST AND A PURPLE DRESS SHIRT WITH A TIE. THAT WAS STU MACHER. AND I ALSO BELIEVE IT WAS HIM IN THE GHOSTFACE COSTUME IN THE FIRST SCENE WITH TARA HOME ALONE. IF YOU LISTEN TO THE DIALOGUE, GHOSTFACE GETS FRUSTRATED THAT TARA ONLY NAMES BILLY AS THE KILLER IN STAB 1. AND THE POUNDING ON TARA'S DOOR IS EXACTLY HOW HE POUNDED ON THE DOOR IN THE FIRST MOVIE WHEN SIDNEY DOESN'T TRUST RANDY & STU ARGUING WHO ACTUALLY WAS ONE OF THE KILLERS ON THE PORCH. EVERYTHING POINTS TO STU.
This is why, if Stu does return in the franchise I'd like it in either of these two ways:
(1) The Ghostface mastminding everything from prison.
(2) Sid (if she returns), Sam, Tara, Chad, Mindy, Dan and Gale go to Stu in prison as they need to talk to a previous Ghostface in order to get into the mind of a new one. Stu could even be rehabilitated and possibly be the main target in the film (maybe someone wants to take out a legacy Ghostface and has been targeting those related to previous Ghostfaces?)
Ps. Feed the dog.
I think
Omg he has a dog?
"PS Feed The Dog" is the last bit of the message 🐶

great stu master 's parents hidden message in scream [1996] film !!!!
The bottom of Stu's parents' note says "P.S. Feed the dog - ". 3rd killer revealed.
I think it says
Hey stu, Sorry we missed you today. We'll be back Sunday Be Good! Love mom and dad ps. Feed the dog.
Weird how Be good! Is written the biggest.
Not the “my parents were emotionally neglectful so I turned to murder as an outlet” being a plausible excuse with the sympathetic view 😩🙄😒
Where did the 'Stu was neglected by his parents' theory even come from except the fact that we don't see them and we see him have one house party while his parents were away? We don't see Randy's parents either because we just don't need to. I mean, even Cher Horowitz throws a house party every now and then.
My guess for what the bottom line says is "PS feed the dog". My first guess was "PS food in fridge", but it's a little bit clearer in that end clip.
The bottom of the white board says “P.S feed the dog” we never see a dog but we know he had one because of the doggy door Tatum was killed in.
Great video, thanks for posting!
It says “p.s. feed the dog” which I find funny because there was no dog 😂
Him and Billy may have killed it offscreen
"Hi Stu,
Sorry we missed you today.
We'll be home Sunday.
Be good!
Love, Mom & Dad.
PS: Feed the dog"
I wonder if stu had abusive parents, or those parents who could give a shit about their kids and live a good life but are selfish about it.
Or who knows I mean kevin did have a scene written in the script where it was a scene of Billy and stu
Seeing this I think they were probably going to explain this in their original idea for Scream 3 since he did say he was supposed to return. Well I guess this is another reason I wish we could have gotten that version
Content like THIS is why I subscribe
It say’s “Sorry we missed you today.” Not bday.
I thought, correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that party that ends up being the final Act was an “impromptu party” brought about by school being canceled; not a pre planned party…I thought he specifically states this as they are walking down the sidewalk… so maybe they made it a b’day party too but I’m pretty sure he said the party was just thought of /planned when school was canceled….
This just intensities my thoughts of Stu being in love with Billy lol
Poor Stu Billy really got him good

The last part of the note says “P.S. Feed the dog”
You should do a video on your favorite soundtrack from the Scream original trilogy, my favorite is Scream 3s soundtrack, but I wish they added a Deftones song in 2 or 1, but I love all the soundtracks in there own way.
Reddit can screw it, Beyond The Mask is amazing 👌🏻
See i reckon he was definitely screwed up by his familys neglect so it did drive him to being interested in wanting to be muderous but i also reckon he was in love with Billy and thats why he wanted to help him out because he was the only person there for him.
I think the bottom bit says “Food Money” maybe???
Looks very much like it could be that 🤣
I'm very surprised you don't have more subscribers and views
If his parents were there things might of gone down differently. Being left around with no adults with alcohol money control etc is a form of neglect.😊
Stu was the only ghostface that showed some remorse at the end
