she plays the guitar like it's a saxophone. love it.
That's a shorter way to explain what I wanted to say = thanks
Yeah i think like that...
Great way of describing the sound
That’s a very nice explanation.. lots of sax lines in her playing..
Many guitarists try to achieve that saxophone sound
Over 2 million views and only 13k likes does not mean the majority did not like it, it means we 13k people have viewed this a thousand times at least. Jess Lewis is one of those musicians who can reflect her existance both on the style and sound at the same time. Listening to a shuffle list, I can easily detect her playing.
Spot on...
When confronted by a straight up woman guitarist, no fuzz, only quality, it seems much harder for men to accept rather than a 15 y.o dude playing smoke on the water for the millionth time.... With millions of views.....Frankly a sad musical time we live in...
@@vinegum8835 In a way yes, but I am so happy and satisfied with what Lewis, Asato, Zytecki, Henson, Quayle, Misko, Fernandes, Le Page, Willson, Jill, Govan, Nito, Marcin, Abasi, Mancuso and many others have been producing last years. They make me feel instrumental music is entering a golden age, specially less or non distorted guitar pieces are about to reach stratosphere unexpectedly for me. Checking youtube everyday to find a new tune and trying to understand the ideas behind. Thanks for upgrading my american english by the way 🤙
Besides flawless technique she´s got the most precise bending and colorful phrasing I´ve ever heard. She definitely adds value to Govan´s original solo.
You haven’t heard a lot guitar music then
I love every little detail of Jess's playing, the subtle raked notes, the soulful and pitch-perfect bends, the general sense of musicality. I'm not 100% convinced that all this can be learnt. I think she's naturally very talented and has obviously put in the work to bring it all together. She blows me away as a musician.
Why is every comment arguing the justification of female guitarists? A guitarist is a guitarist.
TheSnelly101
Lol
No. Question of sensitivity.
A beautiful social format...
Thank you.
@Campola for some cases, yes; Jess, no, she can really play.
Exactly....great musicians
That tone should be enough to convince anybody, astounding!
look !! Just look and listen folks... THAT's how guitar should be played. It sounds like a heavenly voice. What a perfect musician...the term guitarist is almost irrelevant. Stunning playing and artistry!
Still the best version after all these years .. you go Jess
insanely pleasing to the ears!!!
Love the way she plays, her phrasing, her feeling, her tone, everything!!
Love this video. Love her play style. This is very much the kind of music I want to play and write songs like t his. I can feel myself in this type of slow ballad saying in music what I couldn't say in words to the woman I love.
The tastiest solo I have ever heard. And no one could play it better than Jess.
Best playing I've seen in a long time...
Over the top musical feeling...
Outstanding phrasing...
Brilliant performance!
Wow - what a feeling and technique - great !
Great timing and really tasteful playing. Very nice!
Wow, so much talent...love all her videos! Great work Jess please keep the awesomness coming!
Fantastic playing! Feeling, technique, phrasing, and soul - the whole package!
Amazing sound, phrasing and technique. Truly a guitarist who speaks through the guitar. Those are scarce.
i met her busking. only managed to get a few words from her lol
Amazing!
Transcendent. What an amazing musician. Thank you Jess.
I’m not arguing l love this girls playing abilities. Can’t get enough of her
agree...
Even the pick noise is musical! Phenomenal playing.
AWESOME¡¡¡¡¡¡
this song is soooo cool !!! love it
I love Jess soo much! She has a great talent! WOW!
Great tone and beautiful phrasing
Stunning technique. Little fingers - huge skills
Jess plays with so much emotion. And every note is so clean. She makes the guitar sing. Easily the artist I enjoy listening to the most on UA-cam. Looking forward to seeing her playing progress in the future.
She is amazing!
That was a perfect solo !
I desperately need more like this. Doesn't need to be a female but give me some music like this jesus christ!
The true gamers league Check out alex hutchings
I LOVE how she Bends these Notes
This has me gasping for air! Utterly sublime technique and deeeeeeeeeply soulful. Sheer blissful guitar.
Doesn't help women musicians at all when even the folks promoting them resort to language like "amazing female guitarist," when "amazing guitarist" is perfectly descriptive of what is distinctively special about Jess.
I agree.
Yeah totally agree
absolutely agree. same with "female fronted band", like, it's just a band, not a genre.
I see more male guitarists than female, so it makes sense that people would point it out. There are albino lions out there that are more rare to see than the common yellow one. Would you comment the same if they put “albino lion” in the video title, since they’re both lions?
No matter how people comment on how tiny her fingers are or how her bending technique is odd to some people, she's cleary a freaking talent. No doubt about it
Like many shredders her technique is closer to classical guitar than blues. When you play with your thumb over the neck you don't have as much reach. As for tiny fingers, some of those Chinese female classical guitarists don't seem to have large hands and they play spectacularly. Again, for the kind of music she plays, dexterity and precision are more important than big hands.
***** I've noticed a lot of top guitarists have long skinny fingers. E.g. Eric Clapton. But a friend of mine who's been playing many years said of a famous guitarist that his hands were too big and as a result he had poor articulation. Maybe the main thing is to be alert to the mechanics of playing and make adjustments where necessary.
+DucksDeLucks didn't a certain james marshall hendrix have large hands?
piano wise askenasy had a 11 note span didn't seem to hold him back
and lastly "big ben" kept great time and had big hands.
david janson Well, Big Ben had what they call 'natural time.' It's a gift. You have to be made with it.
Nothing odd there..im asian
This is incredible. This guitar, this player....thanks Jess a lot....
I like the middle where she makes the guitar cry with such emotions.
awesome. the tone is very saxophone like
pw Alex hutchings
its playing like this that convinces me a large part of tone really does come from the fingers. beautiful stuff
I have listen to multiple versions of this song, and by far this one is the cleanest.
Very nicely done.
Thank you for posting
Very beautiful piece...it blessed me this morning ty
2:01 Sweet ...
Can't get over that part. Just beautiful!
One of the best female guitarist I've ever heard.
This girl is absolutely brilliant! SOOO IMPRESSED BEYOND WORDS!!!!
This is so soulful. Jess, you are just a gem of a guitarist.
Well played.
Very nice guitar performance
It's incredible a 16 yeard old girl singing guitar so well. Compliments
This is guthrie govans piece guys
Great touch, tone, phrasing and feeling! Could listen to this all day
she comes and then it breaks my heart in this piece, god bless you jess
Why is it necessary to state that she is a "female guitarist"?
This is awesome by the way.
Could not agree more, John Moore. On both points.
Because she is.
Alex Lifeson is a terrific Canadian male guitar player, eh?
wilsondiscovers And we wouldn't notice? (-;
DucksDeLucks Sure we would! This kind of guitarists are usually male so it stated as sthing unusual. Nice to hear and watch.
In this case the term "female" is used to make a difference in a good way. I would dislike if this term or any other was used in a bad way.
Also if someone is searching for female guitarists for some reason, the use of the word "female" on the title would help. We shouldn't make an issue out of this.
She got so much control over the guitar that it's like poor guitar couldn't stand anymore and give up. Me and my guitar we just fight and yell each other.
Her and Joe Robinson are two of my new fav young guitarists. Just amazing talent.
I love the emotions that she played, really hope I can play my feelings as good as she does
well.. it's all still here isn't it Jonny..thanks..
I'm a big fan Guthrie, but I like Jess's cover more than the original ♥️
I think you like the tone on this one... The play itself is much more sloppy and no hatin but it's apparent
Just absolutely incredible. Jess Lewis is my new favorite guitarist.
That has got to be one of the most compressed sounds I've heard. Love it!
great tone sounds a bit saxy
I'm fat, that happens to me too.
Vi este video hace unos 10
Años y me impresionó, hoy vuelve a hacerlo. Es increíble 🙌🏻🎸🎼
Simply Amazing!
what must i see ? that guitar or that ?
She is so good I'm almost glad to see the little string noise in the vibrato at the end! Just a reminder she is still human!
It sounds like it was intentional, though. Like, the kind of gritty, bluesy harmonic depth that came out of the sort of double-stop bend kind of thing against the open string just sounded so good I can't say it had to have been a happy accident. Which is even more inhuman. People who can specifically do the kind of thing where it sounds like an accident or it sounds like they're sloppy, but they're purposely playing that way? Those people are so good.
***** Uh well then what hope do I have
***** - Same hope anyone else has. If you want to get better, practice.
There's really nothing that won't take loads of practice. That's part of why I have more fun playing rhythms, and short, simple, melodic leads. It sounds good and doesn't take loads of practice ;)
***** lol thats my trick too, but its not that satisfying. Fingers always betraying brain is very annoying.
Wonderful phrasing! Love this musician!!
Amazing best version😍♥️
2:01 - 2:05 is what you're looking for.
omg, that part was so damn perfect
i can't get over that lick either. that's just insanely beautiful
Female guitarists tend to be graded on a curve. You can see tons of videos on UA-cam of female guitarists poorly playing covers, yet they have tons of views and people fawning over them in the comments. There is the novelty of it, plus the usual guys letting their hormones do the talking.
Jess is completely legitimate, though. She isn't just great for a female guitarist, she's a great guitarist, period. She still has to suffer the *herp* boobs *derp* crowd, though, which is a shame.
+Mark Lambert well it's because guitar has been a guy thing for some times, so there is a majority of male guitarists and a minority of female guitarists, hence the "bullying" or harassment, because our testosterone makes some of us kinda stupid toward any subject.
Actually if you see it from the herpie derp guy point of view, a hot chick is a hot chick, no matter what she's doing, nothing surprising here, even if she was just 16-17 on this video.
+Mark Lambert give the Human Species another thousand years ; and we might come back around to the idea that Women are Superior ; Lol - maybe some day we can all be equals ;-)
Mark Lambert Personally, I think she really is a fantastic guitar player, girl or not, but I'd be lying if I didn't think she was pretty hot also, especially because of how good she is on the guitar.
She is solid gold.... solo stuff tends to remind me of Neal Schon.... pretty much legend imho so I don't care what the people whom don't play say
And she still has to face some unnecessary (and stupid) words like "pretty good for a female guitarist". Shame, as well.
I watched this about 10 times in a row. Best playing I have seen in a while.
100% feeling...love it, thank you
My ego cant deal with a chick who's better than me on guitar so I'll just thumbs up & move on....
great stuff
ZIGSVIDS 😂😂😂😂
when youre learning music ( Gods language ) the ego is the first obstacle...
No man can do :)
Simply awesome.
What a nice song !!! I love that !
after i watching this vid i get an idea to make breast holder on guitar
+Yusril Balya Hahaha!
why do they call her a "girl guitarist",she is a guitarist period,no one ever say's here is a guy guitarist!
kevin brooks because the majority of guitarists are guys. especially on youtube where guitar epidemic is happening. You never hear girl pianist or girl violinist because the distribution is equal.
bingo
+blankplanet Actually you do hear "guy violinist" sometimes, I wouldn't say the distribution is equal there :P but you're right, that's just how it is, there's more male guitarists out there and people just tend to point out things out of the "ordinary", that's just a human thing to do I guess
+kevin brooks the percentages say guys use the internet more than girls ; so they do stuff to attract guys ;;;
kevin brooks have you heard of Gay guitarist?
wow, what is that nice ... just magical. No other word than thanx!
Amazing Guitarrist ... Amazing Song ... Amazing Everthing. Thanks !!!!!!
She's like the female version of Guthrie
+runescaper1333 All I hear is Guthrie :D Fantastic boob, fantastic playing!
+runescaper1333 Harsh..
i find her version better...she used a better tone i guess...
this is improv dude
+Agustín Magne lol what? this is a Guthrie Govan song.
oh i recently asked what was going on over another video cause i saw guthrie's song uploaded but it's upload date was posterior to this one. what album is it from?
Fuzzy warm sound and great song! simply the best!
great feeling and sound!!! wow!
WTF :O
good execution but what a weird bending technique!
***** I'm not talking about the number of fingers she uses to bend (i use up to all four, depending on the fingering of what I'm playing). What I find weird about her bending technique is the fact that she keeps her thumb underneath the neck and doesn't use it to form a lever with her other fingers to facilitate the bend. However, as long as it is precise, I really don't care how it's executed, it was just an observation ahah
Rooreeloo i think dimebag darrel used the same technique lol
Rooreeloo she is simply sticking to the classical guitar technique which is to keep the technically perfect thumb position no matter what. Depends on people, some hate it, some love it. I don't, but as stated above, Darell played the same and he was a beast !
Inheritance Studio You never bend strings in classical guitar... that position is great for speedy licks with alternate/sweep picking but not so much for bending and some chord shapes. However she seems to be fine with that and that's what really matter. As I stated above I don't care: she could be playing with her feet, as long as the result is musically good I'm fine with it.
Rooreeloo Of course you don't, I play classical pieces on classical guitar. however, this is anatomically the best position, the fact we decide to not keep that position is cultural and due to what we are playing. You will never see anyone in classical guitar use the hendrix position even for a single chord that would be easy to play, simply by cultural habit.
Regardless of what we are talking about, that lick at 2:01 - 2:06 is incredible
Jess your rendition is awesome, love your style.
This guitar tone is awsome and completely fitting the melody.
13 failed guitarists watched this? It must have hurt really badly.
Now at 269 incel downvotes
The comments idicate that male metalheads are from the stone age.
Absolutely superb thank you.
Amazing❣️
... somehow I can't concentrate on her fingers ...
She plays very nice, has an amazing tone. But, like most of the guitar players, she has a lack of originality. I don't like the way she compose. Respect to her, though.
Im not trying to be offensive or anything, but what is it about her that is not creative. What are some of the few guitarists that you consider to be original?
jpturbo98 Ok, little buddy. I will explain this. First of all, I've heard lot of guitar players in my life. So, I can easily recognize when somebody is original or not. By originality I mean, to make music that mark a new way. For example, John Petrucci is original. His style was made by him... I know that might sounds obvious...but it's not. Another example, B.B. King is not original...Because he sounds like many other guitar players of his time...and before his time. People believes what the the media says, but the truth is that there are lot of guitar players around the world that people doesn't know yet. And they might never do...So, the more music you listen, the more you will understand this. And yes, this girl sounds like hundred other players...
HongwareeChannel The guy asked a perfectly reasonable question. No reason to be condescending, okay little buddy? And you do realize that you're listening to someone 16 or 17 years old, right? It takes years for anyone to find and develop their own voice; I'm sure that John Petrucci was finding his well into adulthood and is continuing to do so. How about giving Jess until she's out of her teens at least? (Although in my opinion she has already separated herself from the majority of other players in the subtlety of her phrasing.)
Darrell Myers Age has nothing to do with this. I respect your opinion, though.
HongwareeChannel He never said age matters. He said it takes years to find your own voice. The reason he pointed out her age is because finding your own voice could sometimes take up to decades. Which in my opinion, she has.
A wonderfully crafted solo - love it!
so lovely!
That was so so beautiful !
Im glad ive found this again
Truly Amazing!
She sounds AWESOME!
What a wonderful guitarist you are...not only for your skill but the capacity of transmite what you play, thank you for sharing it
Huge talent, playing perfect
By far one of my favourite solos.
so amazing
