It's kind of funny how even though I'm primarily a trumpet player, I've always been able to learn a lot from guitar players about phrasing, attacks, note spacing- you name it- and apply it to the trumpet.
Some musicians like Guthrie are just so full of musicality that it makes it easy for the rest of us to take away something from it.

There are tons of amazing guitarists out there. I love the fact that music and guitar playing is so diverse. It’s a constantly inspiring environment to be in. Personally for me Guthrie Govan seems to capture everything I love about guitar!

Sam Bell he plays with so much soul,. & He compliments the music..doesn't scream his guitar trying to speed through scales & tricks to boast. Hes an amazing musician. Sometimes you gotta kick ass subtlety. Not to say he's not aggressive. But when the time is right. You have to really love & understand music to play at this level

@@mikeybct - You're right, too many guitar player try too hard to speed their way through scales and tapping and such and sacrifice phrasing, rhythm, timing, spacing etc.. in the process. Also, many other players simply sound too much like everyone else, they don't have their own unique style, but Guthrie definitely has that something special!!!
And then some 😊. It’s the reason why we fell in love with guitar in the first place.

There's always 1-2 people on each page of comment that says they want to quit, i can't believe it's not the opposite - this guy motivates me like no other guitarist! I just want to learn all his shit! I finally learned the intro to Waves the other day, and it's probably gonna take me fucking years to get down that song anyway, since i'm no good at shredding (never delved into it), but discipline and continued practice pays off! Sticking with something ultimately builds muscle memory.

I saw him, front row, with the Aristocrats last June, and this girl a few places down kept talking loudly and looking at her phone as he played most of the intro to "Last Orders". I've never wanted to someone to just shut up and die so bad. Even Guthrie kept looking at her.

It's hard not to be good when you started young, have been playing for 25+ years, and it's your chosen profession in which you are at the highest levels of your field.
No wasted notes is probably one of my favorite things about this cat. "Genius" is an appropriate description for his musicality.

.A few years ago I was hired by Lick library to film a "51 extreme tapping licks" course and sit myself on the same chair, I feel so blessed and useless 😅🤘🎸
The thing about Guthrie, is he's not a shred guy who tries playing other styles, he's legitimately well versed as a guitarist in all styles...Like his blues and jazz come from a real place. Not just a basic understanding of what's needed...
For me that's what sets him apart!
This is one guy who knows how to use his long fingers for something other than picking his nose. This is a very incredible performance. Very Blues Rock oriented.

I think Guthrie appeals to all kinds of guitar music lovers, and players - myself as a 'boomer' classic rock/fusion/jazz/blues guy he has all the right chops and feel. For the shredders & millennial guitar players he is on the money, just a phenomenal guitar man.
Wow, this version is incredible, better than the version on Erotic Cakes. The Wah solo at the end blows my mind. The ultimate guitar player.. just effortless expression.

Ner Ner's solo is already my favourite of the album; but this new version of the solo is another masterpiece ... that's why i love this guy
Hearing Guthrie's art makes me feel so many emotions, its crazy how something that sounds so amazing can bring tears to your eyes out of pure joy. I literally listen to his songs and giggle at how good i feel when I hear them. Music has literally saved my life and I'm so grateful to be alive at this time now, just so I can hear, and feel, more.
I can play all those notes. Just not as fast. Or in the right order. Or the right rhythm. Or with the same dynamics or ... oh you get the idea.

GG is the actual guitar god, but come on, Becker was on another level, beyond... and of course this might be a matter of taste but for me, Jason achieved the Olympus at an age simple mortals are just wandering.

4:48 sounds like a mistake, but he repeats what he played like saying "I actually meant to play that note there"... I heard once that there are no wrong notes in jazz, if a note sounds wrong, play it 3 times more and it will sound right

I think I could hum this song from beginning to end without the audio, so I don't think it'd be that hard for him. BTW, he changes up some parts when he plays live, so maybe he just memorizes the "idea" of the song more than note for note.
