That's got to be one of the best strat sounds I've ever heard. And that quality of playing, and the intonation, and the ...holy cow! Fantastic performance, love it.
Probably my favourite Jess Lewis rendition, even if it was years ago. The control, immaculate precision, such feel, that vibrato! That's a real blokey piece to play as well. For such s young girl at the time, sheer genius.
@@swiffer_wet_jet6355 I loved her paying return it first came out and over the years I come back every now again. Jess's playing then still has the power to astonish me.
she has absolute perfect control over the tonality and expression. what an astoundingly talented young guitarist. probably the most talented 16 year old i've ever come across! excellent excellent job with the playing!
Have just watched this four times...and don't know what to say! Apart from her obvious supreme ability, she also has a feel for the music, that is supernatural for a sixteen year old....and the way she looks at the camera at the end - bless!
Absolutely stunning version of this song, what an amazing player, love the different approach you have taken on "that lick" too. Not enough stars on this rating to give ya..x
I LOVE you're playing. I've been playing all my life and consider myself pretty good but you young bunch are taking it to a new level !!!Jess I think you're going to be one of the most famous guitar players in the world.
Not an expert honestly. Just looks like standard or deluxe series to me. Pickups could be changed, depends on what year is this model. I believe they call this colour 'mystic red' at Fender. Looks a bit too metallic to be 'candy apple red'. I might be wrong.
wonderfull !!!! how acomplished , a totaly natural talent, what else can you say, no need to look up jess , we are all smiling from ear to ear, great playing !!!!
What blows my mind is that Jess started playing the guitar in 2006, so she only had 4 or 5 years of experience in this video. Saying practice makes perfect is one thing, but that is a lot of talent right there.
Jah vi muita gente tocando essa musica no youtube ... Mas essa mina toca de um jeito mto foda, a pegada dela eh Fusion total, o timbre, a mao direita com dedo e palheta... Congrats Jess... Like TheRealDavidGray93 says, the fusion is strong in this one...
don't care how much you practice ,to play this well is a gift from above...she's the most refreshing young talent iv'e heard in a long while... Her version of room 335 is simply jaw dropping good...
RyuSanSama Sanchez Guthrie can take this song and turn it upside down and spin it around anyway he wants though and make it sound good. She is only doing the studio version.
Axls Music World True... But then again, 1) it's Guthrie's song, 2) she's only 18 years old while he's been playing for 40 years, 3) music is not a contest, and 4) no one ever said, anywhere, that someone was better or could play Guthrie's songs better than Guthrie. Oh, and while we're here comparing Jess to Guthrie, she's working for JTC, she's getting better, and hundreds and thousands of people are watching her videos.
Damn I almost jealous-because I could never really get those sweeping arpeggieos very good-maybe halfass, but allways workerd a lot, hands were tired, and just didn't have time. I'm 50 now, and my fingers just that dexteriouis anymore--rats! You improvise well girl. I repect the fact you learned the song-but you did'nt go all out to try to play everything like Govan does, you added your own licks, and they were tastefully done--Girl, you might be programmed into the next "Guitar Hero" game in the future--who knows---eiether way your future looks b right to me.
Girl plays Guthrie riff for riff: "Yeah, so much feel! You're awesome!" Guthrie plays it: "It's really awesome technique but kind of robotic...Clapton did it better (insert any other generic old man blues guy comment here). You guys know it's true lol. She's a phenomenal player though, but on Guthrie's ORIGINAL version he doesn't even get this much love lol.
Your version of this song sounds better than Guthrie's, I like the tone you are getting from your gear, I can say your tone in general has matured a lot. by far best female guitarist...
I just happened upon this video, OMG!! Amazing! God has truly blessed her with some awesome talents:) Great phrasing, finger technique, slides, harmonics, complete package. I totally got distracted from what I was doing. What a pleasant find, made my day.......
Theosis78 I believe they both have their own styles - Guthrie can play in a way that only he can; Jess can play in a way that only she can. Now for us, in choosing the 'better' player, I think it all comes down to preference.
I'm with you- she's phenomenal. Like, I think one day soon what's going to happen is Clapton or some other well established, respected player is going to see her and promote her. She could be on crossroads, for example. When that happens she's going to get picked up by a major band. I used to go to the 55 Bar in NYC and see Mike Stern. One night he brought out this young attractive girl playing drums. She was unbelievable and - about 21-22 and playing with Anthony Jackson, no less. I talked with her afterwards and she was just a kid but I knew she was way talented. Within a few months she was asked by Beyonce to join her tour. It's Kim Thompson, now she's on the dumb Seth Meyers show- but watch her live playing jazz and he's unreal
I keep coming back to this song to give another listen. You make it sound so creative and fun with technical sequences I can only hope someday I can duplicate. Keep grooving girl. Mike 😅
For one this girl did absolutely amazing and is a fantastic guitarist. That being said, Guthrie is probably the best guitarist as of right now, so of course it's not as good.
I'll quote Steve Vai here "There is no greatest guitarist, there are only styles. And her technique and interpretation we're great. The whole point of art in general is to be you.
Both sexes have hands, fingers and souls. I see no reason to give her special credit for playing this. because she's a girl. As a guitarist, you can play whatever the hell you want, as a professional this was out of her league. Her interpretation was funky, but her tone was weak and flat, I'm afraid.
Sweeeeet. Interesting how you NEVER see her left hand thumb, even during a wild bend. Lovely articulation, tone, ideas, I can't wait to hear her when she (presumably) goes through the 'slow and melodic' stage so many of us go through. Good onya, Jess! Stay in da ZONE!!
Wow...this is talent of the purest form. Nice accents, tasty phrasing and amazing technique. I love the sound as well. Keep up the good work ! You are truely a master on guitar, now become a god !
I could listen to her for hours and never tire of it. I want to play like that when I grow up(I'm 55).
How you doin
That's got to be one of the best strat sounds I've ever heard. And that quality of playing, and the intonation, and the ...holy cow! Fantastic performance, love it.
hold your papers!
Two Minute Papers here? That's amazing, cheers!
I never expected to see you here!
I sold my strat but this tone makes me want to buy another one down the line
SHE IS GOOOD!!!
Probably my favourite Jess Lewis rendition, even if it was years ago. The control, immaculate precision, such feel, that vibrato! That's a real blokey piece to play as well. For such s young girl at the time, sheer genius.

blokey wtf lol.

Yeah just jaw dropping!!
I'm 46 and am really glad I don't have to compete with this kind of talent.
Adisharr: Yes, Likewise: If they had UA-cam in my younger day, I wouldn't have bothered to take music lessons -- or even buy an instrument!
adisharr that is why nobody is gonna remember you
Ruben Ornelas Yes it's certainly because I'm not that good of a guitar player. I'll just assume you're a teen for saying something that stupid.
adisharr It's only a frase of the movie Troy
Ruben Ornelas I got you, nobody will remember me anyways so that's probably accurate.
I like how she added her own flair to it. Very good!
Hi Jess I'm just expressing another thousand likes my computor just wont let me record. Keep shining, sounds great.
I can't believe she can make those stretches with such tiny hands! awesome!!
Incredible! Congrats!
Lovin' the tighter, twangier, and grimier approach to the song! Great great job! :)
A rare thing has happened here - a cover that adds to all the best qualities of the original.
That groove is disgustingly good.
I cant get enough. Real great stuff all around.
That cute glance when she finished, like saying "That was good?", like she would need some kind of approval for such amazing performance (*-*).
I'm just freaked out by the fact how she tweaked the (tapping) part around 1:25, to fit her technical advantages/difficulties. Awesome!
@@a.w.820 We know that, that't not what this person is saying

I LOVE you're playing. I've been playing all my life and consider myself pretty good but you young bunch are taking it to a new level !!!Jess I think you're going to be one of the most famous guitar players in the world.
That strat spank definitely adds even more funky feel to the familiar piece. Nice.
Not an expert honestly. Just looks like standard or deluxe series to me. Pickups could be changed, depends on what year is this model. I believe they call this colour 'mystic red' at Fender. Looks a bit too metallic to be 'candy apple red'. I might be wrong.
I'm gonna go with the Standard model based on the plain black fret dots and the more basic bridge saddles. I could be wrong.
I'd agree. Consistent with the shape of the neck joint.
Looks like an American Standard to me...
GODLIKE PLAYING!
Blimey! Superb playing, gorgeous tone.
Very good, Jess...really...., "great feeling".
Happy 2103 from The Music´Club !!
The more I see of Jess the more I'm trapped by her unbelievable talent! I love her.
awesome job, Jess Lewis. I never tire of listening to awesome talent.
Incredibly nice groove!
I enjoyed every second of this clip :)
wonderfull !!!! how acomplished , a totaly natural talent, what else can you say, no need to look up jess , we are all smiling from ear to ear, great playing !!!!
I can get hopelessly stuck on your videos, Jess!
What blows my mind is that Jess started playing the guitar in 2006, so she only had 4 or 5 years of experience in this video. Saying practice makes perfect is one thing, but that is a lot of talent right there.
"it's more in the mind than in the hands" - shawn lane
With hands that small and performing Guthrie's masterpiece is phenomenal!!! Truly genial!
I had a random playlist going in the background and I didn't realize this wasn't Guthrie.
Fantastic!! Just captured Guthrie and mixed it with herself! Left hand! Whew!!
If her playing is sweet - how is her technique horrible? It's bloody fantastic no matter how many fingers she does or does not use.
What a wonderful musician Jess is, keep on rockin' !
Not sure if watching Jess Lewis or young Eric Jonhson

I feel it too bro.

she is better.
Super playing and a beautiful guitar!

Great guitar player !! congratulation Jesse !! thierry from France !!!
eso es talento,es casi escuchar a Larry Carlton, que bien que el jazz no se ha perdido aún,y hay prodigios como esta niña ,para mantenerlo vivo
too much talent for one person but we are so gladone person has it all and jess lewis you are so gifted i love your sound
remember that feeling when you first heard Benson or Carlton or Tropea or Henderson??? x3
John Tropea, great player from the old days,,cool to see him mentioned
Yeah, the same feeling)
don't care how much you practice ,to play this well is a gift from above...she's the most refreshing young talent iv'e heard in a long while... Her version of room 335 is simply jaw dropping good...
Oh come on. Her version is great, like really great. But how can anybody on this earth be better than Guthrie Govan?
RyuSanSama Sanchez Guthrie can take this song and turn it upside down and spin it around anyway he wants though and make it sound good. She is only doing the studio version.
Axls Music World True... But then again, 1) it's Guthrie's song, 2) she's only 18 years old while he's been playing for 40 years, 3) music is not a contest, and 4) no one ever said, anywhere, that someone was better or could play Guthrie's songs better than Guthrie. Guthrie plays incredibly well but all his stuff is just wanky jazz fusion shit
@RyuSanSama Sanchez This was recorded in his studio ..Guthrie‘s …he invited her in to make a UA-cam of ever
Talent and hard work = this.
Jess you top the cake. Thanks for puting in what it takes to do just that.
Damn I almost jealous-because I could never really get those sweeping arpeggieos very good-maybe halfass, but allways workerd a lot, hands were tired, and just didn't have time. Why are you talking like this 😂 she has a name you know
You, are my new guitar hero! When I grow up (I'm 52...) I want to be able to play just like you! Sooooo effortless! You are truly blessed!

Even saw someone saying that she plays it better than Guthrie.
David Alisson Thats fuckin impossible isnt it :) nobody can play like Guthrie . P.S. Sorry for bad English :D
Goran Aleksic It's a great cover but, say that she plays it better than Guthrie it's a fucking joke.
'Cause she have 20 years.
Pablo, guthrie composed waves at 19.. i think we all failed already including Jess :p
totally stunning playing
I could play like that, except my guitar doesn't have all those notes on it.
I know your brand, Guitar Hero
@@etch4 😂😂😂😂
I have about just 2 or 3 notrs if it myself but.....well its complicated...
mine too my guitar has one note
i have been listening to great players for about 40 years and you are amazing!
Your version of this song sounds better than Guthrie's, I like the tone you are getting from your gear, I can say your tone in general has matured a lot.
by far best female guitarist...
Which version of Guthries though. Guthries best version of this song isn't even the studio version.
Simply amazing.... Waiting for your first album!!
Interesting.. Her "B" and"'E" string are tuned up a half-step.
So it's like bass tuning, perfect 4th between all strings
I just happened upon this video, OMG!! Amazing! God has truly blessed her with some awesome talents:) Great phrasing, finger technique, slides, harmonics, complete package. I totally got distracted from what I was doing. What a pleasant find, made my day.......

I am mesmerized watching Jess' hands as she plays. Definitely watching an artist practice her craft.
she is simply terrific a great guitar player I don't care if she's chicken !!!!!! she's just great
Wow the music of the guitar. I am sad that I do not find you any more. I actually feel love toward you.
Thanks for the nearly all black clothes ; 'cause i can finally concentrate on your finger positions on the guitar ;-)
Mastering the technique, with feeling and tone: great job Ms. Lewis !
2024?
Like Tomo says don’t compare. Just love the talent, music and abilities. Keep us grooven girl.
The truth is: In melody building and phrasing she is actually (sometimes) better than Govan ... but on that level they both play it doesn´t matter.
I agree. She's so good, I can't believe she's not widely known. She could play for any major band out there - any major singer if she wanted.
The difference is that Govan wrote this. Many can play this but few can compose this. She's sick in the head regardless.
Theosis78 it's guthrie govan's piece i still prefer him to play it ;) but she plays in a different way sometimes and it makes it very cool too.
Theosis78 She is largely less good.
Theosis78 I believe they both have their own styles - Guthrie can play in a way that only he can; Jess can play in a way that only she can. Now for us, in choosing the 'better' player, I think it all comes down to preference.
Jess you are incredible.......!! Great playing.....
