I have a lot of respect for the fact that despite being such a huge name, he's chosen to self fund his more recent movies, to ensure he has full creative control. Apparently he remortgaged his house to fund Glass.

I loved the movie. It was thought provoking. The only thing I would change is to go much more dark with the apocalyptic imagery and to never come right out and say who the 4 represent. Through colors and other Easter eggs that part was evident for me early in the movie but would have been a fun online discussion "discovery" . I loved the turning the typical home invasion story on its head
"Aww, come on... Let him preach!" :'D :'D I just had to cite my drunk self watching this review now, when you mentioned the slight preachiness towards the end. I feel like it's a very stigmatized feeling but it can be an awesome part of certain movies to feel like someone is preaching to you right now and you're letting them. And this movie will contain this one preach whether you like it or not? If it hits good, it hits good, you know? Anyway, back to vacation celebration
The Village is a regular re-watch for me, despite its many flaws. It was just this really important moment for me in life and one of my favorite theater experiences.
Dave Bautista and the little girls performances & their chemistry are definitely the best element of this movie. I guess the pov footage on the beach is pretty compelling also.
Glad to hear bautista is good, I was super surprised by him at the start of blade runner and he really caught me off guard with his sort of Strom just barely under the surface performance, which sounds like what he's doing again here. I will likely check this out when it's available at home :)
Bautista is the real "revelation" in this film. Sorry; I could not help myself! But I'm serious. He was excellent! It felt more like a very good television episode than a fully realized movie, and ultimately left me wanting more. Unsatisfying, but still a "fun" ride.
Shyamalan is his biggest enemy. His campy style, his artificial dialogues, his strange fixation with simple, boring exposition, and most of all - his very, very strange direction making great actors sound and move like cheap puppets. He managed to overcome it in “The Visit” but after that he went right back to his style and it makes the movie feel artificial which, for me, completely destroys any tension.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was watching one of your videos and you mentioned in passing that you're an artist (painting on canvas?). Dave Bautista character "Leonard" was very interesting, loved how he was friendly kind-open towards Wen. The movie was very interesting but should've had a different ending (Just how it could've been a bit more finalizing the synopsis) Kristen Cui has shown promise that she could have more potential roles in the future of horror movies. M. Night Shyamala direction in this movie I give an A- he should've just had the ending be different.
I think he's a good director but sadly hasn't done a good film in years. And I feel bad for Rupert Grint. If there's a Harry Potter actor who has had the hardest struggle to move on from that saga it's him.
Shamalamadingdong is very one-note for me. You already know what to expect from all his films: the silly "twist" ending, which is almost a guarantee to be lame. Like you said, it always falls apart in the 3rd act. I thought his "comeback" film, The Visit, was rather entertaining and the twist was cool. BTW, Caleb Jones was in a great film last year called Nitram. Did you see it? I believe it's on Hulu. Watch it if you haven't already. What a performance. And yeah, he's got very high weirdo energy. I think he'd be a good Joker. ;)
@almightykevin2279 Caleb Jones KILLED it in Nitram. If you have an issue with the facts vs fiction than you should take the FILM with a grain of salt... afterall it's a character study not a realistic depiction of the Port Arthur events.
I thought it was pretty good. I was engaged the whole time, I was interested in the characters and I wasn't rolling my eyes. Bautista was great and after the disaster that was "Old", I was pretty happy with it. The movie isn't rocket science but it was enjoyable and I was pleasantly surprised.

However it does not effect the plot…so if I have any complaints it is with the story itself! The film is well done. The source material - the novel "The Cabin at the End of the World" by Paul Tremblay - isn't very good to begin with. It's different, but overall doesn't really go anywhere. "A Head Full of Ghosts" is the book to produce.
I agree that this is Bautista's best performance, it's going to be interesting to see where his career goes from here as he's clearly not satisfied just making dumb action movies like the Rock. I would actually like to see a prequel about the four intruders and how they came together, as it seems that would be a much more interesting story than this one.
I enjoyed the film until the final act when a character makes the obligatory explanation about the symbolism of the intruders. The whole conversation felt out of place, I mean dude, the audience is not that dumb. Besides that, the film is solid, specially because of the performances and Shyamalan's directing style.
