U2 absolutely knew how to create music for stadiums.
They tended to play sympathetic chords that didn’t sound ‘wrong’ when bouncing back and forth across the large spaces of stadiums, where the long delay effects of The Edge’s guitar-work didn’t clash with the basslines that Adam was thumping out.
I’m no worshipper of U2, but they were kings of the rock concert show for decades.
I never saw them live, but I did go to see their 3D concert in IMAX just after they released Vertigo and it was absolutely the best way to see ANY concert. The camera was onstage with them and with the 3D you truly felt like you were there onstage with the four of them looking out onto the see of faces. Superb stuff.

My daughter was there. She was telling her friends who BBKing was , because he was her dad's idol? They were very impressed. They came over home the next day to go through his records. Ahhh memories. We saw him 4 times.

Still have not found was from U2's Joshua Tree tour of 1987 in Paris.
When Love Comes to Town was from U2's Lovetown tour of 1989 ( probably from Sydney).

The best notes for a curated week teaser yet! That was fucking hilarious.
I’ve previously contemplated doing a Sting week because the guy does have some talent but as much as I admire his work and skills, I feel he can come across as a bit of a knob. Had it dawned on me that I could both celebrate his music AND do a hatchet job on his persona I’d have given it more serious consideration.

Bono wrote the lyrics specifically for B.B. King. When they first met and Bono presented the lyrics to him, B.B. couldn't believe that someone so young (Bono was just 27 at the time) could write lyrics like that.

    • @alexandriaocasio-smollett5078
      @alexandriaocasio-smollett5078 23 дні тому

Agreed. I’ve heard Bono speak about that topic of writing lyrics that seem to be rather precocious considering where he was in life at the time of writing them. They were very heavy lyrics. He credits two things for that…
His mother passing away suddenly at her own father’s funeral when Bono was only 13. And subsequently immersing himself in Scripture to cope with it bc after his mother passed away, his father never spoke of her again.
So when you think of that perfect storm of variables, his precocious and deeply meaningful lyrics make so much more sense.

I saw BB King in a smaller setting in Wellington, NZ and he was a great entertainer. I guess back when he started, if you were a solo entertainer, you had to have an act to be popular. It's no surprise that BB King is a natural entertainer. Then I saw, also in Wellington, the "Love Comes to Town", U2 concert. Loved it.

I saw U2 at The Sphere a few months ago. There are a slew of video uploads from various nights. They play the entire Achtung Baby album, with other well known tracks and some obscure songs.
Sound was amazing, with clear crisp notes with any seat in the venue a great location. The visuals were epic, outrageous, surreal, overwhelming...I've watched some of these clips, even my own, and not one of these can convey just how epic the experience is.
From the Lovetown show, God Part II and Love Rescue Me are outstanding.

Forgot to mention...I do like U2. Not always in tune to Bono's injection of politics. But a lot of their music is A+.

Of course you have subscribers. You are very entertaining. And that Kasey Chambers track is amazing and a half.
Notes were very fitting for the general feel of the channel actually. I've never hated U2, but I do get that they can come off as a bit pretentious more often than might be good for them.
I did enjoy Bono throwing in some Bob Marley on the first track. And Wilson Pickett in the second!! Great songs both, but the B.B. King song had to be the better one for me.

  • @ursgeiser6570

Brilliant Paris concert, musically, especially vocally (Bono's vocal play and song snipset were unique), saw U2 in Basel back then. In the 2000s, Bono's vocal embellishments were partly artificial, but now they're better again, see The Sphere/Las Vegas.
BB King is simply an admirable person, yes and Midnight Hour!!!
I think it's great that U2 are now playing these songs in the acoustic part, as well as Angel Of Harem (tribute to Billie Holiday) and Love Rescue Me (with Bob Dylan on R'n'H). Will U2 keep this up in the last 15 concerts at The Sphere, start end of January.
I love Hawkmoon 269 and God (tribute to Lennon's song), 2 fantastic R'n'H songs.
You would like the song package Bullet The Blue Sky+Running To Stand Still or One Three Hills (rowdy tribute/New Zealand; motocyle accident) from this Paris concert.
Addition: you both are awesome too; THANK YOU again for Because The Night with PS+BS+U2. By the way, the Paris 2015 concert with Patti Smith+U2 is also unique: Bad+PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER!!!

Lucille was a name of a woman that he was chatting up, apparently there was a fight and a barrel that was full of wood and on fire tipped... He ran into the fire then got his guitar and name it after her. Later , whilst driving between gigs the car flipped and the guitar and the case stopped the roof crushing him... The introductory notes are uniquely Irish in their approach to marketing and bode well for the curated week to come. As for the Thamesmen Channel it is well worth every minute spent watching and if you ever become PC, organised and slick or stop delivering these great curated weeks then I shall have to seriously consider un subbing and getting a life. HNY and I look forward with great anticipation to more slightly disorganised and unconsciously edgy output in 2024.
