- search.sailrite... What is a finished vs. continuous zipper? How do I cut a finished zipper to size? What kind of an end stop can I use? What is the difference between coil and vislon zippers? How do I install a slider in a zipper? What is a locking zipper vs. a non-locking zipper? What is a double pull zipper vs. a single pull zipper?
This video is everything I've ever dreamed of. You've created the definitive guide to zippers, and the world is a better place for it. I'm actually crying right now, because zippers have given my life so much meaning, and now I get to celebrate that every time I watch this video. This video has everything. Ten millimeter continuous zippers, five millimeter continuous zippers, dozens upon dozens of sliders (black, white, single pull, double pull, the list goes on!), coil zippers, slider insertions, finished zippers, end stops, locking zippers, non-locking zippers. The way you melted down that zipper tooth and blew on it was amazing. That #10 slider at 1:20 was the coolest slider I've ever seen. Thank you. Thank you so much for making this. I will recommend it to everyone I know. Zippers are love. Zippers are life.
Thank you so much for this explanation! I wan't sure if I could cut my zipper to re-size it, or if I had to buy an entirely different one. You made my day I got to learn how zippers work and I don't have to waste money on a new zipper!~ ;3
Thanks for the great video. I learned a lot.
Yes, you can use a wood buring tool or a soldering iron.
helped with school project. thanks. great vid
Glad we could help! I hope your project goes well.
Excellent video. However, I don't have a hot knife. Is there another way to make a stopper or is there an alternate way for the hot knife?
Please respond
Thank You :)
Great video.
would i use the stainless stop for a metal tooth zipper. or could it be soldered the way you melted the plastic zipper? good tips in the video. if i cant solder the brass teeth and i can not find a metal stop. any other ideas for brass teeth?
Yes, you could use a metal stop SS for the metal tooth zipper. No, usually a metal zipper tooth is not soldered. You could also use a scrap piece of binding or webbing to sew a stop at the end of the zipper. Just fold it around the teeth and sew in place.
How did I end up here?
At 3:07 it's mentioned that the Vislon zipper is sewed over by a sewing machine and a stop created. Do you mean an industrial sewing machine? I tried on my home sewing machine and it was not possible.
+Barbara Some home sewing machines can sew over the zippers teeth, but others cannot. When using a home sewing machine always rotate the balance wheel by hand when sewing over the zipper's teeth, this will hopefully make it possible.
I have been trying to install the zipper slider for your tote bag since yesterday afternoon. My fingers are bruised and nearly bleeding. I can't go any farther with the project until I accomplish this task--your video just says "simply slide it on"--but what if it won't go? Help please.
Hi Jeff - Give me your order number and I will check to see if you have the correct zipper to slider combination (Vislon vs Coil). If not they will never work!
It's YKK zipper I bought from a local upholstery shop. I've used it, and the sliders provided, successfully on throw pillow covers.
Jeff B If the zipper is a coil type you must use a coil slider in the same size. If it is a vislon zipper only a vislon slide will work. Since it was not purchased from Sailrite, I cannot look up your items, sorry.
The ykk zippers look cheap as fck
