      I actually use the drozd in place of an Assault rifle when I attack the CNPP, since sin drop it semi consistently in gamma and it's ammo is reasonably cheap to stockpile as long as you're allies with duty or free stalkers and the CNPP is close range anyway

    SPAS 12 should be S tier since it's only a type B weapon, meaning it's easier to fix one in the early game. You only need a basic toolkit to make the cleaning kit, surpassing the MP-153 that requires a C kit (which needs advanced tools for crafting) and holds only 6 rounds instead of 8. It's quite weird that the SPAS is on the same level as all the TOZ shotguns.

    • @mikharju
      @mikharju 4 місяці тому

      Didn't they make it rather rare in some recent patch? In my play through I only found one after reaching Jupiter and Zaton. Easier to find C tools and some rather impressive 5.56 or 5.45 assault rifles.

    • @jimbothegymbro7086

      it is a solid early game pick, but I'd pick pretty much any mag fed shotgun over it, in terms of single shell reloads though it is the top of the pack so long as you don't mind it's lack of optic (who cares about optics on a shotgun, it's a to whom it may concern weapon)

      @@jimbothegymbro7086 yes but most mag fed shotguns that have 10+ rounds need a expert tools to fix up. It's quite the late game for considering a shotgun since you be swimming in rounds at that point. Again at early game when you are piss poor and only have access to basic tool kit is when the SPAS will outperform other type B shotguns.

    • @joaogomes9405
      @joaogomes9405 4 місяці тому

      The SPAS isn't an S tier and wouldn't be one in a million years. Slow reload speed, slow firerate and no scope selection. It's a good early game gun for mutants but it's not much better than the remington 870 (which can be used just as early), worse than most of the .45 and .357 handguns like the strayer voigt and the desert eagle, and completely outclassed by the carabinier and the saigas. It's a solid B tier early game shotgun and that's that.

    I just found my first expert tools today. I had been using the Saiga nerd earlier and I liked it so much. But I had found a Saiga-12 ISG earlier and was waiting for the expert tools to fix it with. Now that I finally got to try it out, I feel it's better stability makes it far better than the nerd variant which kicks so hard that it is difficult to put fast shots into the same mutant even if the fire rate allows to get those shots off before the thing runs or leaps at me. With the ISG variant it is so much easier. I would put them in different tiers because of this. But then I don't know if there are enough tiers to spread out the shotguns so far. And the nerd variant was already very nice. Maybe the ISG could be a rare S+ special mention thing.
    Now excuse me as I go figure out where to get all the materials to fix this one stolen exoskeleton I found earlier... :D

      i mentioned this in another post, but the Saiga-12 ISG variant has a 2-round burst which is really good for stuff that needs to die really fast. it's burst turns it basically into a stronger ks-23 - 6 bursts vs 4 shots (though the armor pen for the ks-23 is higher). i don't like the 3-burst upgrade option though, it removes the 2-round burst and the 2-round burst feels better to me.

    With mags tho, this gets more interesting. Single loaded shotguns don't need mags, thus such shotgun as a secondary will be much better than magazine fed ones. Tested it on AK105 and SPAS combo, it's so good. With OTs-33 as a backup, it made my early and midgame a cakewalk, the only challenge was actually cleaning those guns before I found any toolkits xd

  • @777-twitenoise3

    I think some of the guns that are mid or bad here are largely offset by either having a specific use case (burst damage in the chimera hunter's case, very high capacity in the early game in the striker's case) or offset easily by having a backup Hollowpoint mag in your primary rifle or a good mutant-killing handgun.
    The KS23/Drozd are kinda mid on their own yeah, but if you combine that with a pocket .45 or load some hollowpoints into a 5.45 rifle as you're about to encounter mutants on backup, they become seriously one of the best late-game options because they can put down large mutants quick. Even the venerable Raptr struggles a bit in outskirts now because of all the dang chimeras (especially if you play with mags on) and that upfront damage is worth having in your back pocket as a counter-pick if you go there hunting for tools earlier in the northern part of your run.
    The 23mm imo is also one of the only consistently *safe* ways of dealing with bloodsuckers, because aiming for upper mass will reliably put them down in one shot or stagger them hard enough to interrupt their surprise attack. It's just worth noting that 23mm counters a lot of late game mutants in ways that 12 gauge just cannot, the minor AP effect makes it basically the only buckshot that is worthwhile to use against stalkers, and the slug AP will even take out weaker exos if you've got a little luck and some patience. (I once killed eidolon with a ks23 lol)

    0:18 On top of all that, your character reloads "wrong-handed" like a fudd. By that, I mean using the shootin' hand instead of the support hand. It was done right in 'nilla ShoC and older versions of Lost Alpha (based on Build 1935), so I don't understand that. Also, those older versions depicted the hammers being cocked correctly, thumbed back with the thumb instead of palmed back with the palm as we see in two of the core S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and most mods based on them.
    0:35 Seven standard rounds is the capacity of just the mag tube alone. If you do a proper "combat load" like yer 'sposed ta, it would hold a total of eight. To do a combat load with a bottom-ejector, you simply load one shell into the mag tube, cycle the action, then load the rest.
    0:50 Older model with "slam-fire."
    0:56 Michael Biehn used one of those in 'Aliens'. He used the M&P (military and police) version in 'The Terminator'. The Stakeout model has a 13" barrel and a mag tube that fits almost flush with that stubby barrel. Total capacity should be five rounds (four in the tube plus one in the barrel), but they screwed that up for no reason, thereby handicapping a gun that could have otherwise been really handy.
    1:00 Your character knows to cycle the first round into chamber instead of the last (something most video games get wrong), yet doesn't know that there's space in the tube for one more round! That's insulting! That's insulting to both the gun and to us zoners!
    1:04 Slower fire rate makes sense because it's a newer model without slam-fire. The absence of slam-fire makes it safer in practical use since the whole slam-fire thing is really kind of an impractical gimmick IRL. Plus, it has a stockless pistol grip which would drastically decrease ergonomics and handling characteristics. The only upside is convenience since you easily carry the thing around all day in a scabbard strapped to a backpack (or slung directly on yer back like Dwayne Hicks).
    1:19 The Russians don't like it either. They think it's "too American." If every country had a signature weapon, the combat shotgun would be the American one. One of our "Iconic Arms," so to speak.
    1:28 Only because no one ever thought to give it a mag extension. If it had a mag tube that fit flush with that 20" barrel, it would hold two more rounds.
    1:31 Blast a chimera out of the air with it! Zone Sportsmanship style! Sir Hammerlock would approve!
    1:54 Should hold a total of nine standard (18.5x70mm) rounds if you load the chamber first. On a side-ejector, directly loading the chamber first is how you do a "combat load." Mossberg figured out how to fit one more shell into the mag tube of the 590 just by shortening the follower compared to the model 500 with the same mag tube and barrel length. But if you're using 12-gauge Magnum rounds (18.5x76mm), subtract one. So then it holds eight. GLaD they gave it a proper stock. Only an idiot would put a stockless pistol grip on a combat shotgun that comes standard with ghost ring sights.
    Note: Wait, the 590's icon depicts it with a stockless pistol grip, but the in-view model depicts it with a standard "wrist" stock. Does the inventory icon not match the in-world and/or in-view model?
    2:05 It has the same mag tube length as the Ithaca 37 Stakeout, so how and why did they get one right and the other wrong?! I don't understand how it's possible to overlook details like this! It's insulting!
    2:41 Zone Sportsmanship style! It's even more fun with lurkers. And even more fun with chimeras! And even more fun still when it's chimeras but yer blasting them out of the air with 40-mils!
    2:45 Fortunately, you can interrupt the reload as needed, but it's still a pain.
    3:25 Proper capacity if it has a 20" barrel and a flush-fit mag tube. Seven in the tube, one in the chamber. Subtract one if using 3" (76mm) Magnum rounds.
    3:40 Anton Chigurh can eat his heart out! };-P
    3:50 It's like they don't understand shotgun mags of any type! Firstly, a 10- or 12-round box mag for a 12-gauge is gonna be stupidly huge, bulky, and inconvenient. A 6-rounder is a more reasonable size. The Saiga 12 is usually used with 5- to 8-rounders. In most older mods that have the Saiga 12, it's used with 8-rounders. Some mods visually depict it with a 5- or 6-round mag, but it holds eight because some people don't know how to use the angular gyrus in the right hemisphere of their brain.
    4:14 Iron sights are all it needs. Notice how yer character properly chamber-loads it. So why not do that with ALL side-ejecting fixed-tube guns like yer 'sposed ta?! Most people who know how to do that (like Paul Harrell) do it consistently.
    4:16 Notice how, like the real-world clunker, you have to hold down the bolt release while loading it. Most "autoloadahs" are like that, but Remington figured out a way around it with their model 11-87. They built the bolt release into the loading gate. That simplifies everything.
    4:24 20-gauge is actually quite capable IRL. Some say, "Twenty is plenty." In metric, it's 15.6mm (70mm standard, 76mm Magnum just like 12-gauge/18.5mm). Btw, 10-gauge is 19.7mm and is the largest shotgun gauge that isn't "legally" (read "unconstitutionally") classified as a "destructive device."
    5:06 Would hold eight if yer dude loaded the chamber first like with the SPAS-12. The only thing more irritating than getting things like this wrong is getting them wrong inconsistently.

    I'm a weirdo for still using pump action shotguns even with access to full auto monsters like Raptor. There's something with well placed shots instead of spamming them and wasting all that ammo.
    Wonder if they nerf KS23 in the future?
    TOZ bolt action? The only good part is the ammo - cheam to buy, disassemble and craft one for KS-23/Chimera Hunter.

      I do love the raptr but a pump action is always so much more satisfying to use.

    3:35 K12 ISG you kinda missed talking about the best feature of the gun - the two shot burst. it's basically the shotgun cousin of the AN-94.
    The whole point of the KS23 / drozd /chimera hunter is to have a good gun to kill said chimeras/pseudogiants on the cheap. late game i usually run around with a drozd in the backpack that i only switch out to engage chimera (4 good hits) or pseudogiants (8 good hits = 2 mags). it's hard to beat the cheap and effective ammo per kill.

    • @nullmoxy
      @nullmoxy  4 місяці тому

      But the burst mode doesn't increase the fire rate? So what's the point in using it over single fire.

    • @michelklepsattel5861
      @michelklepsattel5861 4 місяці тому

      @@nullmoxy from my experience i could get about double the fire rate with the burst. in single shot each click has a delay till the next shot can be fired even if it should fire faster with a firerate of 400. with the 2-shot burst it shoots another shot in the delay time if you time your clicks somewhat right. feel free to try it out. i think it has the highest burst dmg of all shotguns. for that reason i really like the burst for killing bloodsuckers. for sustained dps an upgraded raptr focused on firerate is still superior though.

    Happy to see Armsel protecta getting a bit more recognition this time round, I still think you sleep on it a bit.
    I'm not claiming its the best gun for later, but it is worth it for early game, having 2x the capacity of most other early-game options is great until you start finding tougher enemies that take more shots.
    Also, the FULL reload might be 22 seconds, but you can also reload cancel by pressing shoot when reloading or switching weapons to fire it again sooner, so say if there's just one dog left, you can reload two rounds, cancel and it's good to go.

      Wholeheartedly agree about armsel. The thing is the early game monster and as I am playing with mags, I found myself using armsel even in midgame until I find at least Mercenary variant of Saiga.

    Most of the pump shotguns feel off to use due to the slow rate of fire. I get why grok did it, for gameplay balance of course but most of the time they just feel like a bad choice to run. That and the model choices are pretty crap, outside of the toz194 & mp133, which I'd still prefer a longer mag tube on like stock anomaly. The Ithaca's look and feel like crap to use and the pistol grip & heatshield 590a1 is the worst 590a1 hands down. Only person running that garbage is a hick who's stuffing it down the back seat of his pickup truck.

    imo saiga nerd should be dropped to A
    its still a god tier shotgun, but 6 round mag + WP scopes < saiga merc with 8 rounds and many more 1x scopes to choose from
    also any fan of mp153/carabineer can burn in hell, straight to F tier, god i fucking hate those shotguns with a burning passion
    ofc im joking, they're still B tier at most, but losing an invictus run to a bloodsucker that ate 5 shots like it was nothing aint my cup of tea :(
