I have had rosacea in a very bad condition and I can't think of getting burned in the sun. I got rid of my rosacea with the help of a creme, Soolantra. I used Soolantra for 4 month and I am rosacea free now. Thank God for that! But still, I avoid the sun. I don't go on vacation in the summer. I am kinda afraid that my rosacea can come back. It has been 5 months now. Feeling great than ever.
RESEARCHERS DISCOVER MISSING LINKS IN ROSACEA INFLAMMATION BARRINGTON, Illinois (August 10, 2017) - In a new study funded by the National Rosacea Society (NRS), medical scientists have connected the dots in the disease process of inflammation in rosacea, identifying a potential pathway for significant advances in the treatment of this widespread disorder affecting more than 16 million Americans. In earlier research, the team led by Dr. Anna Di Nardo, associate professor of medicine of the University of California-San Diego, had determined that mast cells, located at the interface between the nervous system and vascular system, were a “missing link” between rosacea triggers and inflammation. They found that mast cells play a direct role in the activation of certain types of cathelicidins, an antimicrobial peptide involved in the innate immune response that is over-produced in people with rosacea. Studying the process in mice, Dr. Di Nardo’s team determined that when exposed to a neuropeptide called PACAP, mast cells produce enzymes that trigger the production of cathelicidins. In mice bred to lack mast cells, however, this chain reaction did not occur. Continuing their research, the scientists have now discovered that one of the proteins in cell membranes that facilitates communication between cells, known as transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), plays a key role in activating mast cells in the skin of people with rosacea.1 In the new study, the researchers first examined whether cathelicidins were involved in spurring general TRPV production. After injecting cathelicidins into mice bred to exhibit human-like rosacea symptoms, two days later they saw significant increases in the expression of both TRPV2 and TRPV4. The researchers then tested the findings in the laboratory (in vitro) in both mouse and human mast cell cultures, confirming that cathelicidin increases the expression of TRPV4 and also determining that TRPV4 regulates the inflammation caused by mast cells. Dr. Di Nardo's team further identified a protein receptor on mast cells known as MRGX2 as the likely pathway to TRPV4 activation by cathelicidins. By turning off MRGX2 in mast cells, they were able to prevent TRPV4 from reacting to cathelicidins, which in turn prevented the mast cells from triggering an inflammatory immune response associated with rosacea. “Although more work needs to be done, these findings suggest that potential therapies may be developed specifically to block TRPV4 as a direct means of treating or preventing inflammation in patients with rosacea,” Dr. Di Nardo said. “We are grateful to the many rosacea patients whose donations to the NRS research grants program have made this effort possible.

I think it's important to know that these kind of suncreens are better for the ocean but still not the safest. There is still mineral oil in them which pollutes the ocean and when we wash it off at the end of the day it goes down the drain and it's really hard to filter out of drinking water. Mineral suncreens with natural ingredients are a safer option. Like eco sunscreen, alteya organics or badger balm (which I use). But I'm happy you talk about it at all ❤

It’s hard to rely on advice about sunscreen from someone who decided not to wear sunscreen at all and getting a severe sunburn instead of going to a store and buying new sunscreen. I’m fairly certain sunscreen is sold in other countries.
Do you think that I could get a away with just wearing colourscience clinical pigment corrector on its own? I have problematic skin tone. I have combinations skin type oily t zone and dehydrated skin everywhere else. But also acne scars, pigmentation and sensitivity. So when I wear makeup my skin itches. I can stand tinted moisturiser. But can't find one that helps me. I wasn't sure if colourscience clinical pigment corrector has a good enough tint to cover my face without foundation xxx

xtina baaae Are you from Europe or USA? I also had rosacea and I live in the Netherlands. I got a creme named Soolantra on prescription. It made wonders by me. Within 4 month I was rosacea free. I believe you can get this in USA too. I read people using it there. Search it up for yourself. I hope it helps you to get rid of rosacea too.

I didn't wear sunscreen when I went to the beach because j also read that they were bad. Also I didn't plan on getting into the ocean but I did and got sun burned really bad. I want to buy an organic or vegan sunscreen to see if they're any better

No offense but I would rather not get melanoma so I wear my sunscreen, I only wear mineral or physical sunscreen! My best friend just had skin cancer, so every time you get a burn you increase your chances by 100 times!

Could you do a video on the best "reef safe" sunscreens? My hubby and I love going to Mexico and if you want to go in the ocean off the Yucatán Peninsula you must have reef safe sunscreen. They require it to protect the ecosystem. I burn very easily (thank you Irish genetics) and it's been difficult for me to find and effective sunscreen.

None of those products give enough sunscreen. You still should have used an actual sunscreen underneath. Recommending makeup as your only sunscreen is bad information.
A few days ago I bought Australian Gold Botanical Mineral Sunscreen (spf 50) and I was really excited to use it since it's a physical sunscreen. However, over the last few days I have been breaking out more than usual and I'm wondering if this is what's contributing to it. It says it's free of a lot of harmful ingredients so I'm very confused on why this is breaking me out. If anybody knows please let me know what is wrong!
Alyssa Allen A lot of mineral sunscreens contain mineral oil and it can wreak havoc on your skin. My acne goes BANANAS when I use anything containing mineral oil. Check the ingredients and see if maybe that's what is causing you the issue. Hope that helps!
Oh that's interesting! I've tried buying random drugstore sunscreen before and they have a little warning of some sort on the packaging like "contains oxybenzone" and that somewhat alarmed me into looking it up.

I have had rosacea in a very bad condition and I can't think of getting burned in the sun. I got rid of my rosacea with the help of a creme, Soolantra. I used Soolantra for 4 month and I am rosacea free now. Thank God for that! But still, I avoid the sun. I don't go on vacation in the summer. I am kinda afraid that my rosacea can come back. RESEARCHERS DISCOVER MISSING LINKS IN ROSACEA INFLAMMATION
BARRINGTON, Illinois (August 10, 2017) - In a new study funded by the National Rosacea Society (NRS), medical scientists have connected the dots in the disease process of inflammation in rosacea, identifying a potential pathway for significant advances in the treatment of this widespread disorder affecting more than 16 million Americans.
In earlier research, the team led by Dr. Anna Di Nardo, associate professor of medicine of the University of California-San Diego, had determined that mast cells, located at the interface between the nervous system and vascular system, were a “missing link” between rosacea triggers and inflammation. They found that mast cells play a direct role in the activation of certain types of cathelicidins, an antimicrobial peptide involved in the innate immune response that is over-produced in people with rosacea.
Studying the process in mice, Dr. Di Nardo’s team determined that when exposed to a neuropeptide called PACAP, mast cells produce enzymes that trigger the production of cathelicidins. In mice bred to lack mast cells, however, this chain reaction did not occur.
Continuing their research, the scientists have now discovered that one of the proteins in cell membranes that facilitates communication between cells, known as transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), plays a key role in activating mast cells in the skin of people with rosacea.1
In the new study, the researchers first examined whether cathelicidins were involved in spurring general TRPV production. After injecting cathelicidins into mice bred to exhibit human-like rosacea symptoms, two days later they saw significant increases in the expression of both TRPV2 and TRPV4. The researchers then tested the findings in the laboratory (in vitro) in both mouse and human mast cell cultures, confirming that cathelicidin increases the expression of TRPV4 and also determining that TRPV4 regulates the inflammation caused by mast cells.
Dr. Di Nardo's team further identified a protein receptor on mast cells known as MRGX2 as the likely pathway to TRPV4 activation by cathelicidins. By turning off MRGX2 in mast cells, they were able to prevent TRPV4 from reacting to cathelicidins, which in turn prevented the mast cells from triggering an inflammatory immune response associated with rosacea.
“Although more work needs to be done, these findings suggest that potential therapies may be developed specifically to block TRPV4 as a direct means of treating or preventing inflammation in patients with rosacea,” Dr. Di Nardo said. “We are grateful to the many rosacea patients whose donations to the NRS research grants program have made this effort possible.

I think it's important to know that these kind of suncreens are better for the ocean but still not the safest. There is still mineral oil in them which pollutes the ocean and when we wash it off at the end of the day it goes down the drain and it's really hard to filter out of drinking water. Mineral suncreens with natural ingredients are a safer option. Like eco sunscreen, alteya organics or badger balm (which I use). But I'm happy you talk about it at all ❤

It’s hard to rely on advice about sunscreen from someone who decided not to wear sunscreen at all and getting a severe sunburn instead of going to a store and buying new sunscreen. I’m fairly certain sunscreen is sold in other countries.
Do you think that I could get a away with just wearing colourscience clinical pigment corrector on its own? I have problematic skin tone. I have combinations skin type oily t zone and dehydrated skin everywhere else. But also acne scars, pigmentation and sensitivity. So when I wear makeup my skin itches. I can stand tinted moisturiser. But can't find one that helps me. I wasn't sure if colourscience clinical pigment corrector has a good enough tint to cover my face without foundation xxx

xtina baaae Are you from Europe or USA? I also had rosacea and I live in the Netherlands. I got a creme named Soolantra on prescription. It made wonders by me. Within 4 month I was rosacea free. I believe you can get this in USA too. I read people using it there. Search it up for yourself. I hope it helps you to get rid of rosacea too.

mineral sunscreen is the only one I use and it works really well. I do belive that regular chemical sunscreen has a big factor in skin cancer.

Could you do a video on the best "reef safe" sunscreens? My hubby and I love going to Mexico and if you want to go in the ocean off the Yucatán Peninsula you must have reef safe sunscreen. They require it to protect the ecosystem. I burn very easily (thank you Irish genetics) and it's been difficult for me to find and effective sunscreen.
Beautycounter has a great safe sunscreen that goes on like lotion and you can't see the sunscreen.

None of those products give enough sunscreen. You still should have used an actual sunscreen underneath. Recommending makeup as your only sunscreen is bad information.

Humm not sure the reef warnings are accurate at this point.
A few days ago I bought Australian Gold Botanical Mineral Sunscreen (spf 50) and I was really excited to use it since it's a physical sunscreen. However, over the last few days I have been breaking out more than usual and I'm wondering if this is what's contributing to it. It says it's free of a lot of harmful ingredients so I'm very confused on why this is breaking me out. If anybody knows please let me know what is wrong!
Alyssa Allen A lot of mineral sunscreens contain mineral oil and it can wreak havoc on your skin. My acne goes BANANAS when I use anything containing mineral oil. Check the ingredients and see if maybe that's what is causing you the issue. Hope that helps!
