- I'm pleased to share that my driving orange is now back on the road!
Hot metal and a hammer should fix my wonky steering but then I have to set up the classic Mini suspension that sits under my Amazing Outspan Orange. This week, having solved the mystery of why my driving orange has been pulling to the right for so many years; I now need to correct a bad fix of some old accident damage.
After some heating, bashing, cutting and welding I get the mushed suspension mount back to standard(ish) and then I set up the suspension geometry with some low-tech methods. But, will all of this corrective work finally get this orange oddball back on the straight and narrow?

Loving the videos Edd it’s so refreshing seeing the best part of “wheeler dealers” nitty gritty that I enjoyed so much, Friday afternoons are now something to look forward to! Thanks Edd + The team
Thank you! It's always lovely to get feedback like this!
@@eddchina I prefer UA-cam and the freedom it gives you to produce how you want to.
@@eddchina you were absolutely right when you said the work is the USP of the show and having a 1hr program condensed down to about 20 minutes of mechanical work was never going to work. This is far better and much, much more entertaining. Great work!
Here here good sir 👍
I don’t miss the staged purchase & sale “negotiations” thats for sure
I love all the simple alignment tools a home garage, and a few helpful hints from Edd! I used to work on everything mostly body and frame work. 20 + years until a car accident rear ended me causing multiple fractures in my spine. That ended my business and career. I love ❤️ “Welcome to the workshop” I feel like I’m a friend stopping by for a chat and lesson as I’m a grease junkie too,
This is the wheeler dealers everyone wanted
Totally agree. No more skipping past all the Brewer rubbish to get to Edd in the shop.
Well, we need more interesting cars
Do you know why he left ?
@Tom Reeves same
it's one of them
There is something addictive about watching you put together, fix, repair or restore a vehicle. Your skills and knowledge are absolutely brilliant. Thank you for sharing. WD's lost the star of the show but we gained you and your videos.
Edd, when you mentioned CAD i immediately thought of project binky and your hilarious cameo role
Project Binky need to put the orange on it. Errr..... no I never said that.
Same here lol
Heck, I’ve been calling it that for years. I first heard it from AvE…….
When I saw that cameo role.
It instantly reminded me of this:🙂
ua-cam.com/video/i1Y_09HHulI/v-deo.html
BOM: something something neat gusset something
*titters
just saw this and now i have to go back and watch it from the beginning, you cant help but smile seeing this drive around town. i wish you tube would have popped this up sooner, edd was the best part of wheeler dealers
Congrats to Edd and the whole team that put these together. Definitely a product to be proud of!
It is amazing how Mr. China solves mechanical issues that should throw back into the litter all those cars. You give new life to these oldies and that's fantastic! Good job, Mr China!
I’ve only recently discovered this channel but I’m hooked!
As has been said, the main reason for watching wheeler dealers wasn’t to listen to Mike bellowing..
‘owld aaaht yur aaaand’
It was for the sheer education and entertainment of Edd doing his thing.
Fantastic, especially enjoyed this one as I have a classic Mini which one day I will get back on the road.
👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I remember seeing three Outspan orange cars stored off Berkhamsted High Street in the late 80s/90s, I always thought they were the coolest thing ever.
I was glued to this video. When I took mechanic school the wheel alignment was a separate course and I opted not to take it as it was all done with lasers and electronics, not every garage would have such an elaborate system. So when I can learn something new it is always appreciated.
Thanks Edd!
I worked for a U.S. company that had a wheel alignment system product. Despite being a physics and maths major, I still was intimidated by the geometry stuff. Edd made it all so (comparatively) simple here - thanks, Edd!
I have never been so eager to see a list of problems that needs to get done for an MOT!!! COME ON!!! Lets see it!!!!!
Edd, you’re the greatest. Keep up this workshop series, it’s what wheeler dealers should have always been.
Stop bleating on about Wheeler Dealers.
@@lawrences1347 first time I’ve ever mentioned it, dumbass
@@lawrences1347 roasted
Thanks Edd for making me smile today!
The sorted handling and the delighted reactions of everyone who sees the orange make all the work worthwhile, eh? Nice one.
I want to see the MOT guys inspect this after they get done with the Range Rover. LOL
Great to see Edd using the old tools and not all this electronic BS , Rock on Edd.
It’s a shame you didn’t do this years ago, but WD got you known, and UA-cam got you doing what you do best but on your terms for your fans. It’s amazing how well you’ve done with this channel in such a short time, and it’s working well Edd. I’m a home gamer with my motorbikes and it’s your inspiration that helps me do the things I do. Massive thanks, keep up the good work.
A comprehensive and simple tutorial on steering geometry... Fantastic, thanks, Edd.
Once again Edd you've knocked it out of the park with your channel.
Excellent workmanship as per usual, Ed... we couldn't expect anything less from yourself! Please fit 10" wheels to the front as the 12s make it look super stumpy! On another note, I'm building a 19,480 mile 1974 Vauxhall Viva HC 2 door. It's fitted with a Sierra RS Cosworth YB turbo engine and T5 gearbox (which will be wet linered to cope with the projected 520hp!). The rear axle is a Mk5 Cortina estate atlas towing pack unit narrowed with a ZF LSD and Quaife En30b half shafts. I still have a long way to go before it's finished!! Keep up the good work! Cheers. Leigh.
The gusset is actually part of a bracket. That, the CAD and the angle grinder warms the cockles of Bad Obsession Motorsport's heart!
Edd, your doing an amazing job. Please keep this show going.I have learned alot by watching you over the years. I do love that you respond to questions and help your followers. Love the update to the people you have helped. As a true car guy I think you have nailed what we are all looking for. As for the production team and backers, please for the love of God listen to this man for how the show should go. We don't want 15mins of a 30min episode about buying and selling and walking around. If anything throw those numbers up at the end. Or just show the amount of money we save doing it ourself with the knowledge edd just taught us. The stroll around town and seeing the joy Edd gets from cars and the joy people get from it is amazing.
Fridays are always better after a relaxing spot of Edd China, I only wish the videos were longer, much longer. Far, far better than what's on TV these days.
TV is dead.
That orange is absolutely adorable when it's moving.
The intro:
“A SPACIAL ODDITY”
Cue Also sprach Zarathustra
And cool with the nod to the lads from Bad Obsession👍🏻
I must have missed the BOM part? What was it?
@@blockbertus It was the CAD part. Cardboard Aided Design, one of BOM's many, hilarious catchphrases. :)
"While I don't doubt that light-weight laminated cardboard gussets ARE the future, we're not there yet!"
Hi Edd, I never watched WD because of one short, plump object...and it wasn't your Outspan Orange! But seeing you dissect each segment of this citrus beauty with zest, shows me that you certainly know your stuff. The future is bright for this little resplendent orb.
Ed, thank you for taking us through a great learning demonstration on wheel alignment, I learnt more about this with practical demonstration than from anyone who has tried to explain it to me in the past. Great to see the Orange behaving properly and looks a lot of fun for you and spectators 😊 , just make sure you don’t run out of juice!!!
It is like every friday evening you are visiting your friend in his workshop and together you are wrenching on cars,....just great!
It must be the Brit in me that really appreciates the tea break and a chin wag segment halfway through the video.
The orange makes me happy. Love it.
Thank you. The first time I’ve seen suspension being adjusted in full. Nice job. :)
I always appreciate Edd explaining the what's & why's in detail.
This little orange is a great example of how to work on suspension set up. Everything is so visible and pretty basic. Great content as always!
I MUST say... years' ago YOU inspired me to do anything on cars and I also removed ALL of my sons suspension, and dampers' etc on his Trafic van BECAUSE... of you!! THANKS!
I wish I had a workshop like Eds, with a car lift. And all the tools you need. And the actual ability and skill to use them.
My thoughts exactly, I would be happy to find 1 reliable trust worthy mechanic that knows what he's doing. I've been looking for years and I'm still looking lol
How great is that. A driving orange! Excellent.
Absolutely love getting home on a Friday night and settling down to watch a new video from Edd.
You very good at presenting technical instructions about servicing your car in an understandable manner.
Another cracking episode, really explained the mystery of toe, caster and camber. Great work Ed and team. Also super job Howard and son!
Edd brings smiles to those on the outside and now he gets to smile on the inside. Everyone loves a classic mini and it's variants, you bring happiness to so many, thanks.
It's surprising that a little damage to a tie rod can affect straight line handling of steering. Great job Edd
it's even more surprising and sad when you can find no one to fix that kind of damage in real life...
@@xwaltranx most mechanics are completely useless when it comes to steering related issues
Just seeing that orange zipping down the road. It is a clever vehicle. Very enlightening to see the explanation behind what happens when you get an alignment. Thanks Edd!
Love the project binky mention!! Maybe a colab in the future!?!?
I think Ed could really bring some unique ideas to the Escargot project. 😊
@@tirvplumbing or maybe even the Peugeot rally car or even better the SV-R!
Ed has already been in the binky show.😉
@@KungKrydda Or the Binky team could come visit, perhaps fabricate the odd bracket here and there ;-)
Edd you are the MAN when it comes to great auto videos !
Its given the car a new zest of life..... Yeah I'll get my coat. Great series Edd and the team.
Great to see the Orange working properly. A real eye catcher!
Some proper graft and engineering there Edd - and true delight on your face when it all comes together. Keep going Edd, the best yet.
It's really nice to listen to you and just watch you working with the car. Always learning something new and you give out useful tips all the time. Thanks...👍😎
It’s jobs like this that only go to show that I’m good for nothing but filling the washer bottle! Great video as ever 👍👍
My interest was peaked at ‘deformation’, Edd… Fantastic stuff; love the show, etc. So, so good to see you live and in full, grass-root, mechanical engineer effect. Part of my life since 2003! Your book is awesome. I managed to get a signed copy. All the very best for your continued success.✌️☮️
If I saw Edd driving an orange down the street it would make my year
Better than driving a lemon😉
I remember seeing Edd driving a couch once down a leafy lane in Berkshire and from that day on I was hooked
Ed More of the best of wheeler dealers sections no Mike and no waffle just wrenching and fixing showing people how you do it so they can learn too
Keep doing it the way you are Ed
That intro, for some reason, had the 2001 A Space Odyssey tune playing in my head.
Ed, "open the door, outspan "
" !'m afraid I can't do that Ed "
Same. Licensing, I'm sure. *sighs*
Love the videos. I remember seeing that Orange Mini in a magazine, long time ago. Great to see it again. Here in Canada my father had a shop and worked on VW and British Leland products. I can still smell the inside of those old cars. Keep the videos coming.
Orange you missing something? Such a head-turner. Good job as always Edd.
Sorry Edd I COULDN'T HANDLE ALL THE TECHNO-JIVE But I'm GLAD To See You've Got'er Fixed and Are Back To Peeling Around The Roads Again. God Bless All.
Every time I see the Outspan car I'm reminded of the space pod in 2001. It would just need to be white and have a pair of mechanical claw-arms.
Now you've said it....
Can I just say it's lovely seeing Howard and the update with parts fitted with your suggestions! More like this please
This is what I look forward to in closing out my work week. I watch it usually on my lunch break and finish out the day on a good note. For that, I thank you.
Brilliant! Loved seeing all the reactions from the locals. Really enjoying the detailed repairs and modifications Ed. Here's to a million subscribers!!!
It's Great to see Edd.. Doing what he knows best and sharing his knowledge with us all.. Roll on a Million subs 👏👏👏 👍
Well said
My first time seeing this car! First thought is he has fixed every problem with the Robin! You could just roll over and keep going! Love it!
That was a nice little shout out to BOM
Bad Obsession Motorsport are awesome.
Superb work back to being able to drive and enjoy it safely ,
Loved the Shoutout to Nik and Richard of BOM! Perhaps they’ll let you take Binky for a spin when she’s all done!
with Binky's reduced cabin area i doubt Edd would even fit in the drivers seat
Unless they are putting a seat for edd on the roof then it will be a no as edd barely fits in a range rover let alone a classic mini.
Being full-size, unless Nik has fitted a Tardis bracket there will be no way of squeezing me into such a small space full of Celica bits and HVAC tomfoolery!
Hard to think of a more boring subject for a video than camber and caster adjustment. And yet I really enjoyed it!
Now on to the paint work, its full of orange peel. 🥁
I don't think that's going to buff out....
🤣
That's a truly awful dad joke. You should either be proud or ashamed. I'm not sure which yet...
@@tirvplumbing got to be proud!
Always a pleasure watching you work. Amazing content.
so glad your doing this for you edd. its been a massive success!
Love the opening scene.
'Clowns to the left of me!
Jokers to the right!
Here I am stuck in the middle with you'.
Steelers Wheels 🤣
,
Love the new show edd I hope your having fun with it and continue it for many years to come. 🤞
I have big smile on my face, when he says after all of the well done setting: "Lovely!"
What's the plan to celebrate when you hit 1m subs? A cuppa tea and hob nob?.. It wouldn't be Friday without an Edd episode.
Love this guy showing the home method without all the laser and computer tools! Thanks Edd China, you rock.
Love the new shots on these videos. The Quality and Transitions are Amazing.
I really love this quirky and unique little car, it seems to spread joy everywhere it goes.
Great episode as usual. The Outspan Orange test drive was delightful. Since living abroad I have forgotten how quaint the English countryside looks.
Ed is more down to earth than the other guys. I like seeing Ed work on cars Keep up the good work. As you guys on the other side of the pond say crack on 🪄✨👍🏻✨
This episode couldnt have come any sooner. Absolute rubbish week Ive had, and this will be just what the Dr ordered.
Yeah, I've not had the best day, been on the phone with the bank for an hour trying to resolve technical issues. I was irritable, now I'm feeling pretty chipper again. Watching Edd is bloody awesome for relaxing to and learning something new.
Top job as always Edd!
I may be from the States, but my week has been rubbish as well. Edd's Zen approach is much appreciated.
Same
Have a better day tomorrow guy's keep calm and carry on
@@engineslovetostartmatthew thanks buddy
Never get tired of watching Mr. China work. Thanks for giving us the gift of continuing your labor and filming. The world just wasn't the same when you left WD.
It is awesome to watch these videos that meet broadcast quality (picture, audio) with a small team and less resources. Congrats. I am enjoying them as much (if no more) as when I watched early WD on tv. Cheers from Spain.
PS: the part at 40:43 won me over :-) / PS2: at 42:16, a Reliant Robin tipping over would be a nice add
I love that outspan orange. It is a real head turner. Fantastic video. As always . I must admit the outspan orange has been my favourite video to watch . I think it would make an awsome camper conversion . Imagine that turning up at festivals and car shows . Looks incredible.
It's a small part of this video, but watching Edd back in the day showed me how to use spray paint without getting streaks.
Ive always been kind of a fraid of steering and suspension stuff, thanks for the video, you explained everything very well
What the world needs to see is Edd and Allen Millyard working on a project. Who's with me?
Excellent idea!
+1 for that. They should certainly guest on each other's channel!
Ed thanks for resurrecting the best part of "Wheeler dealers". I sos glad to have the meaningful tangible instructions on how to fix that which needs to be fixed without having to sit through the used car salesman shtick. You rock!!! stay well and I'll continue to enjoy your great work.
Same here, the only thing I'm missing a bit are those amazing, highly specialised little shops lovingly refurbishing wooden car interiors or turning hubcaps out of sheetmetal. Would be nice to sprinkle one of those in every once in a while, when it fits the job.
"a nice tidy gusset" - A sentence you thought you would never hear Edd say!
Can’t beat fettling with a gusset 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So happy to see the Orange back on the road and driving safely! Seeing it dart across the roads was just hilarous. Just one thing occured to me: I've learned it is best practice to put the bolt for the tie rod in from above, not from below (which is of course easier to get in). This prevents it falling out in case the nut comes loose, which would lead to a complete loss of control. That is of course unlikely because of the nyloc nuts used today, but I think still an important point.
Greetings from Germany,
Timo
They should do a production run, I’d definitely buy one...great stuff Ed. Do a long wheel base classic beach buggy please!!
Another brilliant episode Edd!
For anyone who is wondering where is the Range Rover, it's still at the MOT station, they are still writing the report...
All those unexpected trips to the supplies store to get more toner and paper probably slowing them down a little.
Great, we will receive a lot of repair clips. :-)
@@richardschofield2201 sounds like it's going to rival War & Peace.🤣
Some say the DVSA's website crashed because of that
XD
Well done Edd sorting that out 👍
My fried had a Darlek based on a mini chassis. You would approach one of the major golf ball manufacturers. I’m sure Titelist or Callaway would die for something like this to be part of the PGA or European Tour travelling circus
Come to think of it, it would look like a golf ball if it were painted white
Interesting.
Yes think you're right.
Painted white.
Perhaps we should challenge Edd to make a Dalek car in the spirit of
"the orange"
Another cracking video from Edd with lots of hammer action. Just like the best days of WD but even better. Great shout out to the lads at Project Binky!
I can't stop laughing at seeing Edd driving a motorized orange with his knees under his chin
Found this on a local history site
But can’t upload a photo or the outspan car
Loving all the hands on back to basics content. It means that the inexperienced spanner monkeys can have a go at things with a bit more confidence... now I just need a vehicle lift!! And so good to see the orange on the road. I remember seeing one when I was a child.
An Orange of that size should never run out of juice 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Get your coat in shame for that joke.
That was really fun to watch the happy conclusion to this story of the Orange.
Nice to see it actually being used, rather than sat in some motor museum
slowly rotting away.🍊👍
😉
the best part of this ep was you enunciating the writers' in names :^)
