  • There are five things about the Helinox Chair Zero I don't like - the reasons why I don't use it for hiking anymore.
I am in the transition from heavy weight backpacking/hiking to ultralight backpacking/hiking.
I hike here in Scandinavia were there is a tradition to use very heavy gear, because of the cold and inclement weather.
I am trying to change the tradition, and still be safe and comfortable.
Here is a list of some of the gear that I use, and can recommend:

    Waterfilter: Katadyn BeFree 0,6 L
    Headlamp: Black Diamond ReVolt
    Stove: Soto WindMaster Stove
Mug: Evernew Ti Mug Pot 500 ml and 900 ml
Spoon: Sea To Summit - Alpha Light

    Rain jacket: Mont-Bell Versalite
    Rain pants: OMM Kamleika Pants

Glad you gave your opinion, however most of your gripes are kinda ridiculous........ next time just bring a recliner chair that weighs 100lbs!

After years - if not decades - of refusing to use any camping furniture, I have now bought a Helinox replica and a matching folding table. But: I will not be using this furniture for hiking, but rather for bike and kayak tours, where a little extra weight doesn't hurt and in the evening you can set up a cozy camp, often with friends who have similar furniture, and then you can sit in a convivial group.
A floor which is connected to the chair legs mat helps to prevent you from sinking into the ground - I sewed one myself, and it only weighs a few grams.

That is the right conditions for using camp furnitures… we’re the weights don’t matter to much

I really appreciate my HCZ as it enables me to have a comfortable seat at 500grams.
I tried chair buddies and in the summer with reasonably firm ground they work well.
I decided that the best solution was the sand mat and I always carry that now as it works well in all sorts of soft ground situations and the beach.
If a break includes a brew then I put the water on which will take about 1:30 the same time to set the chair up.

Ha ha i guess that there is some work arounds, a beer always helps if you are frustrated ha ha. I also like the chair - but if I am out for a long hard hike I will not put up with the weight and the hassle 💁

Problem 1: this problem is with every similar chair. Your solution is great and adds hardly any weight.. Problem 2: it packs smaller than all similar chairs I have seem. Problem 3: It is lighter than all similar chairs I have seen. Problem 4: The thin feet are a real problem and a solution for it does ad some weight. Problem 5: Putting it up or taking it apart take a minute each. If you don't need the comfort of a real chair with a backsupport and only need a sitting mat , please don't compare your mat with a chair, just as you should nor compare travelling on foot with travelling by bike. Both are completely different things.

Hi Erik the reason for making this video was to give some info for new byers - all videos about this chair just love this product - some are mentioning the sinking problem... I really like this chair but I don't use it for longer hikes, where the weight matters a lot.
I often bring the chair when I will spend more time in the camp than on the trail.
      Thanks for your feedback 💁🏕

I chose a typical womans solution for the sink-in problem: I take 4 plastic lids of nut cans with me with 5 g each. Collect them afterwards and off I go. I hate sitting on the ground and putting my backpack on the ground in bad weather. When I have to take the backpack off to take something out I rather put it on my shoes than on the ground. The chair fits nicely into the vestibul of The One. Nevertheless I carry a

This seems to be the only honest UA-cam review of this chair. I'm a tennis player, how is that possible that I have to spend a minute and a half crouching down to set up a chair and then dismantle it afterward when I am tired and need to rest. The other UA-camr's reviews and 99% of their viewers' comments are really questionable. Buyer beware!

I had the XL version of this chair and added the ball feet. Weighed 1.5 kg and still sunk on most earth surfaces. I sold it on for much of what I paid for it. Been thinking recently of the chair Zero, but you've reminded me how poor it was in staying up. I'll give it miss. Thanks.

Mountainsmith Slingback Chair ( Pros ..144gr. strong..waterproof..just use your trekking poles.. on the back of the chair you can attache your foam sit mat.. Cons..a little bit slippery..but you can use one tent pegs on the front .. to keep it under tension ). For saving space..is best for me... for +2 days camping in the same place ..i've got my big agnes mica :)

imo it's really just for hanging out around the fire at night with some buddies, I'd never get it out for a short break. Awesome for underneath a flying tarp too when you're taking your boots on and off before hopping in bed. I find it's also pretty sweet here in Australia where there are ticks and massive ants on the ground. The worst part of this chair is the shit stuff sack, you really don't wanna sit on this when its wet, I bought a waterproof DCF rolltop for it.

Nice review. About sinking… I believe it’s Trekology that sells a fabric sheet that locks into the feet of their knockoff chair. I believe it fits the Helionox too. Anyway it spreads the weight over a wider area to help prevent sinking. Of course that adds more weight. Cheers.
