Fantastic documentary. Indeed unusual footage and way of reviewing it in very realistic conditions and pointing out interesting details. film artwork combined with the valuable information and authentic experience is something what I rarely see in outdoor equipment reviews in general
In that windy rainy place where the tent was finally ripped I was thinking why did you choose spot at the middle of the flat open field instead using something in Your surroundings as the natural protection from strong wind at least from on side, but it's not bad that we actually seen the tent being exposed to such harsh conditions at the end of the day...
btw. it was basically invisible how is the tent repaired when you camped at the second place there is no visible trace of previous damage or repair works
I'm considering to take The Two model and using it in combination with larger lightweight tarp as additional protection, at least in conditions as the strong rain or even snowy winter day.
Thanks very much Adek - I chose the place because it was windy in order to test the tent ⛺️
The outdoor shop send me a new tent - great customer service 😊
Makes sense 👌@@hanskirk-hiking9697 wishing alot of safe days in wilderness and many subscribers.
Thanks again for your very nice reply - stay safe 🇩🇰
Outstanding video Hans. That was without a doubt the most comprehensive and detailed tent review I have ever seen, possibly the best ever produced.
Hi Joe - what a great feedback, thanks - and your opinion mens a lot to me 💁😊
Brother this is the best review video of a tent ive ever seen. The visuals helped so much. If companies want to REALLY test their tents, they need to send them to this guy lol
Hi Zakk thanks this nice feedback
The best review of a tent I've ever seen on youtube. Loved the shots from the inside, I have never seen it done so well. Amazing. I can just imagine how much work the filming of this took, and then the actual testing…thank you for the hard work! Now I know exactly what to expect and I'm thinking of ordering this tent for my summer hiking in Sweden below the tree line. For the harsher weather, I'm keeping my modded 1,3 kg Alpkit Ordos 2. It is a total pain to setup but has held up amazingly well during horrible wind and rain.
Hi Psychonaut I’m glad you’re appreciating my efforts to make a tent video.
I don’t know the Alpkit tent … but I guess you’re motivated by the Ones weight.
I think it will do very well in Sweden 🇸🇪 for summer hikes.
Thanks again for your nice comment 😌
This has to be best tent review in the history of mankind. Great work Hans! I've been thinking about buying this tent for awhile now, but im not quite sure if its a good choice for the finnish wilderness.
Thanks for the very nice feedback, it means a lot to me.
For a long UL hike in the Finnish summer it could work out.
I could recommend the X-Mid if you are looking for a tent there lightweight and still strong (I have made a video about it🤭)
This is the best video/review of this tent I have seen so far! Very detailed and objective regarding its pros and cons. Judging from your review if you aren't going to subject the tent to very harsh weather conditions and are fine with a few compromises (which is most of us) to trade for or a very light weight and easy to set up shelter makes this tent something to strongly consider. Well done!
Hi josiebones, thanks for this very positive response - I always try to review products in field conditions, I must say that the weather surprised me... I am glad that you apprised my test conditions - and I fell that after making this video I know this tent 💁🏕
Beautifully made video.
Hi Bungzy…. thank you 😊
That was excellent. I really liked how you showed what it’s like to sit up, put on a jacket, and the gear space around you. Thank you.
Thanks very much Jeff, your comment is much appreciated 😊
Thank you for such a complete review and test.
Hi Steve - thanks for your nice comment.
Too cold last time, then too windy, then too cold, then just right! Welcome to Scandinavia! Great review Hans Kirk, and the clothes and tent line modification was interesting to see. Thanks!
Hi Junker Scandinavia is known for it inclement weather - thanks for your kind feedback 💁
Great video! Very thorough!
Thank you for taking the time!
Hi Eddie thanks for your nice reply 😊
Thank you, Hans for this excellent review.
Hi Clive - thanks very much 😊
I wish I'd seen your review before I took this tent out on the trail! I had issues with water ingress in (not quite so) inclement weather. I didn't realise the tabs on the side of the tent were additional tie-outs, plus I was trying to save weight by not staking out the bathtub bottom so I'm definitely going tie on some elastic. Thank you for showing me how to use my tent! Great review, amazing delivery!
Thanks Lisa, glad that the video was helpful 😊
Great video review. Thorough and unique perspectives. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Bryce thanks so much - glad the video was helpful 😀
fantastic review, thank you!
Hi Rob thanks a lot.
Wow! Amazing review and suggestions for practical improvements. Beautifully edited too. Many thanks 👍🏼😊
Thanks very much Richard - nice with postive feedback 💁
Totally excellent. Well thought through, very nicely edited and engaging - most of all highly informative and useful. Thank you Hans
Hi Thewestonfront much appreciated 😊
Best tent review i have seen and i have seen hundreds. Thank You.
Thanks Ignas, your opinion mens a lot to me 💁
Amazingly detailed review. Dankeschön! :)
Hi Sofreshsofree - thanks very much 🙂
This is the best gear review I've seen in a long time. Very thoughtful, appreciate the willingness to go out in uncomfortable weather to test it (instead of just pitching in a meadow on a sunny day and calling it good), great editing, and even some good tips along the way. Fantastic. Sub'd for more
Hello Caspar that was a nice compliment - much appreciated, thanks 😊
Very useful, thanks
Hi Mugen - thanks very much 💁😊
Great review hans, very comprehensive and testing in realistic situation. Good job
Hi Fatsu Kolen - thanks very much 😊
woooohooooo :) great review!
Hi Illya thank you 😊
I love the hack using the elastic cord for the floor.
Hi Colleen - thanks… it really helps also to keep the weight down 😀
Amazing video. 👏💪❤️
Thanks very much Connie 🌷
Seriously good and novel but very professional/enlightening examination of the tent. Love the tips and advice given. I certainly, like others before me, think that this is one of the best reviews I have seen and good to see great service from the tent provider. Regards B
Hi Bill thanks so much for your very kind response - it means a lot to me 😊
Another magnificent informative product review video. You are a greatly skilled Communicator using the tools of this medium very very well. Your structure and pacing are your best tools that you use well. Well done Hans, your friend Blue Boy.
Hi my friend - thanks for the kind words, your opinion mens a lot to me... are you still hiking... long time since you have uploaded on your channel 😊🏕
Well done for showing this tent in 'real' weather. For some reason, Americans never seem to do this. I suspect most owners will use The One as a fairweather or sheltered-site option, where it probably works best.
Hi David - you are right, the One works best in nice weather 🙂
This video pretty much convinced me to wait for a Durston Xmid. Thank you!
You are welcome Andy - glad to help 😊
Fantastic videography and review. I think this tent has it's place and for me it's dry summer trips. During windy conditions the tent allows quite a bit of breeze through, sags a bit during rain and can have some condensation. But for the weight it's really a fantastic shelter.
Hello WolfeAdventures - thanks for the kind words - I agree.... the best thing about this tent is the weight - it will shine on a hot summer day 😊🏕
Good video! That was quite a storm test, though it really can happen like that.
Hi Reverend Al - year .. that was the real deal - thanks for your nice comment 💁
In my experience, Outdoorline has amazing customer service and Peter has been very quick to respond.
And thank you for showing this tent in Scandinavian conditions.
Hello J G... you are right Outdoorline is great the best place in Europe to shop UL gear.
I guess that there will be no condensation in a dessert 💁🏕
I'm in the same situation as yours, I'm slowly changing my equipment to ultralight, I recently received a Nemo Dragonfly 1P and it seemed fragile too. Since here in Brazil the storms are very similar to the one you showed.
Thanks for sharing all your experience, I love your channel
Hi Thiago thanks for your support. I think the Nemo Dragonfly 1P tent is really good - hope you like it 🏕🇩🇰🇧🇷
Thanks for your extreme test! Yes, any single wall tent will always have condensation in snow and rain conditions.
Hi Ramos you are welcome - I guess you are right about condensation 💦🙂
Indeed great review and real world test. This tent reminds me a bit of my Zpacks Duplex in terms of venting and overall shape.
Cheers from California 🍻
Hi Alex, thanks very much- I guess you are right about the similarity with Duplex, but much cheaper 😊
I like how you show what you did to improve the pitching of this tent. I just got a new tent that I need to change out the pegs and add some Guide out lines.
Hi dtrainw - thanks very much
Amazing thorough review. I’m looking for a minimalist shelter to carry with me during long day hikes (emergency) or overnighters. Any bivy of substance is about this pack weight and size (at least) so I am also adding in 1p tents as an option. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Hello Smash, thanks for your feedback - apart from DCF made tents I guess you vil have a hard time to find a lighter and smaller pack size tent than The One 💁
Great review! Greetings from Argentina!
Hi Marco - thanks very much - greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
Great video! I was curious about this tent and while I don't camp in these snowy situations it's always good to be prepared. I will stick with my Big Agnes Copper Spur! Cheers from Laguna Beach California!!
Hello Rob thanks for your comment - Big Agnes rocks 🏕😊
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 YOU rock!!! Thanks again!!
you are a true hero💪💪💪
Thanks Walter 😄
Super video and a great tent. I would use this tent more in the summer or with better and warmer weather. What you have used it in is something more for a 4-season tent.
Maybe the Dan Durston X-mid was something for you, it is slightly heavier, but difficult to buy here in Europe.
But again, respect, in the circumstances you've used the The One in.
Hi Raymond - thanks for your feedback - I know about the weather but it surprised med April weather. I will check ut the Dan Durston X.mid 💁
Hey absolutely great video. Delighted to have found your channel.. Amazing to see someone testing gear properly particularly tents.. You know what you are doing editing wise too so a super video all round.. One thing though.. Get yourself Kestrel 1000 and please show me the wind speed.... You don't do this or even mention in your opinion how windy it actually was.. But definitely subscribed and working through your videos.. Have a look at some of mine if you are interested.. I love testing tents and measuring the wind... ATB Tom
Hi Tom - thanks very much for the nice comment it’s really appreciated - Kestrel 1000 is on my list Good idea thanks
Nice
Thanks
A tent like that is never going to hold up in the wind lol. Great for sheltered spots and the like but I’m glad you did it because it was funny. The bathtub floor also looks stupidly thin. I would definitely get a groundsheet. Great video Hans 👍
Hello Kef9 - thanks, I was funny to do also - I am obsessed by weight ha ha 💁
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Do you agree that it is necessary to have a groundsheet to protect the tent floor? You didn't use one in your testings.
No groundsheet - it is a ultra light tent ⛺️
No it is a ultra light tent
Wow intense review. I hike since several years but only once had a storm like that. It was in Sarek Sweden and I had a quite robust two person tent. In this times ultra light was not really a thing. Long story short. The tent and I survived but the poles bend and the tent was crooked since then. Always wanted to know how the new ultralight tents take such weather.
Greetings from Germany
Hello VISION ADVENTURE, you are right - here in Scandinavia we have to be prepared for bad weather... I was a test I have planned but in real field conditions I would have chosen a place were I could hide from strong winds 💁🏕💦
Great video! I have one. It's reasonably storm worthy but is only 10D fabric and not an expedition tent. Better to set up in area with natural shelter if possible.
Hi John thank you so much 😊 you’re right about that this tent needs protection from wind - the choice of location in the video was only for educational purposes ha ha
Really great video Hans! I too have the GG "The One" and used for my trek along the Great Divide Trail here in Canada. I especially like how you used shock cord to stake out the bath tub floor. I'm wondering if you have a tutorial on how you tied those loops using the glue and thread?
Hi Tyler - thanks very much - I don’t have a tutorial for the shock cord - but it is easy 😃
It's a nice niche tent. It did not work for me, I used it twice and sold it. My feet were up against the wall of the tent and it's a pita to set up after a long day especially on hard ground to set all the stakes. The big draw was the weight but I don't think it's worth it.
Great video, I always appreciate the thorough analysis you do with gear!
Hi Pete I guess you are right… you by this tent because of the weight - there a lots of other tent’s there more comfortable, but heavier 😊
Thanks for the fantastic review. Your style is great. I have just purchased the 2 and was curious as to whether you knew how strong the wind was when the tent fabric ripped?
Many thanks indeed!
Thanks a ton for your nice comment,
I can’t remember the exact speed of the wind 💨 but what was the real problem was the wind gusts I was near the coast and it was very violent
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Ah fair enough! I've just spend the last couple of hours watching loads of your videos. With hindsight, would you have picked the Durston XMid tent range over the Gossamer Gear 1 and 2? I'm still quite torn between the two.
Hi Wiiggls hope you enjoyed my videos.
I hate condensation so I would have picked the X-Mid, but in good weather The One is a nice and lightweight tent ⛺️
This ist a REAL test !
Hi Michael thanks a ton 😊
So glad I found this video. Seems like a great tent but it’s definitely not the one for me.
Hello R. S. thanks, glad it was helpful 💁
Love to see you try out a durston xmid
Hi Eric - that would be nice
Ingenious! Great Idea to use elastic lines to tie down the bathtub floor. I need to do this to mine. Any video guide you recommend for tying the elastic on like you did in the video? Also, what was the material you used for the lines?
Thanks for your reply… its just normal elastic line bought in a hoppy store
I put my wet kit in a dry bag (turned inside out to keep the inside dry and clean) and put the bag inside my sleeping bag. Clothing doesn’t freeze and although it sucks putting on wet kit at least it’s warm and wet, much better than freezing wet kit.
Hi Slippery - nice trick 🙂
Hej. Det ser ud som et ret godt telt. Har selv kikket på et Nemo hornet 2.🙂🙂🙂
Hvis du kan bære det slipper du for kondens 💁
LOVE THE REVIEW
Thanks so much
Those were some winds. I wonder how a dyneema fabric would have fared in those winds
Hi Big Visk - you are right.... I think that dyneema would have been stronger 🙂
I live and hike in Australia where it is hot and humid most of the time. Given condensation is an issue with this tent, I d probably have to look for another tent then 😔
Hi MissFrequstion - you could use this tent - it’s possible to set it up without the fly - just with the mosquito net
Great Video! I just picked up this tent, curious how thick of elevator cord did you use to attach to the bathtub floor? And do you have a website direction on how to make those eyelets?
Hello Justin thanks - hmm I wouldn’t use a very thick elevator cord - UL tent ha ha and its not holding anything important
Haha typo, elastic cord
Hans, which “sit pad” (the tiny egg-shell foam mat) do you use?
Z seat from Therm A Rest 💁
Good lord wind sucks! I love Gossamer Gear but I'm not real hip on the silnylon tents. Great design and weight but the material in bad weather is less than ideal. Great tent review though....thanks for the effort.
Thanks Neda, you are right... Cuben fibre would have survived the storm.
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 actually my worst night out was in a duplex - at 12000 ft and wind beating my ass all night. It was unbelievably impressive that it didn't tear but mostly at the single guy line I had out front holding like the little engine that could. both my feet pressing against the front wall to kept it from collapsing ...and I think your wind was even worse. So much fun when you get home.
What a night you experienced - I have heard that Cupen fiber is very noisy 😊
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 I imagine in a real big wind it could flap louder than nylon but for me it's very silk like....pretty soft. The price is crazy - I got in just under the last price increase but I like most that its just plain waterproof and holds non of it. no sag or stretch. Still can't get over how strong it was.
Have a great hiking season. We're about to start heading to the mountains in California.
Say hallo from Denmark to California 🇩🇰😊
Do you have an estimate of what the wind speed was during the storm? Also, which version do you have? I have the older version from 2019 and I am curious if the tent you show failing is the same version. Thanks!
Hi That Guy, hmm gust of wind maybe 20 second meter, I have testet the new version with the waterproof zipper. Thanks for your feedback 💦💁
I wish you would review all the 1 person tents I look out for
Hey Bogdan - thanks…. witch tents are you looking for?
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Would be so interesting how similar ultralight 1 person tents like the SMD Lunar Solo, Tarptent ProTrail, X-Mid 1, and the cheap Lanshan 1 Pro deal with condensation and high winds. All of these are single wall and just a little bit heavier. Would any of these fare off better with condensation/wind in order to be worth the extra 1-200 grams? In any case, I have been obsessively watching these and your review is the best one I've seen - great humour and rational considerations that matter when dealing with a tent.
These are all great tents - condensation and how the tent preforms in strong winds are essential.
I have ordered the X-Mid solid 2 person version - I hope it will satisfy my needs
Jeg troede du ville flyve væk! Og helt uden brug af effekter var stemningen der jo til en gyser 😆
Hej Henriette - tak og det var også spændende at være der 💁🏕
Another first class video Hans and perhaps the best I have seen of this tent in real world conditions! I was considering this tent but will stay with my BA Tiger Wall UL2 as my one person tent (1.1kg all in), mainly due to the fact it is extremely roomy, handles wind exceptionally well and has has little condensation issues (which are also the reasons you like the Copper Spur so much I guess?). I have also considered the Durston Gear X-Mid 1p but will have to wait until they release the DCF version next year. BTW - I tested the Tiger Wall in some really windy conditions with storm(ish) gusts along the coast - ua-cam.com/video/21zGzIpqMyI/v-deo.html
Hi Norhiker... I saw the video, really windy - the Tiger Wall shall all the problems The One have and it is only a little bit heavier - thanks for your very kind comment 💁😊🏕
Thank you for such a great video! I am thinking of getting this tent for hiking in the Rocky Mountains of the US, where it's usually dry. I knew it wasn't great in wind but it's nice to see just how much is too much.
Currently I use the Big Agnes Fly Creek 1. Even though it's double-walled, it sags so much when wet that I get the condensation from the fly on me anyway. And when I take the fly off, water sprinkles inside the tent. I thought: if I'm getting wet anyway, why not just get a single-wall tent?
Either way, I get a lot more condensation when camped on grass (rather than pine needles) so I have tried to stop doing that. Amazed at all the flat ground where you are... almost nothing is flat here!
Thanks Jpanosky - condensation is not nice - I was making the video on an island called Amager it is totally flat, and close to the coast and known for its windy conditions 💁
What is the tent lantern that you are using? Does that just slightly cover your headlamp?
Mont-Bell I made a short video about it: ua-cam.com/video/V94FvIor3-M/v-deo.html
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Perfect! Thanks. I remembered your cord lights from before but forgot about this.
You are welcome 🙂
Would it be better to pitch the sides into wind?
Maybe Jon, but the fabric in the sides is not so close to the ground.
这个遇到下雨还是不行材料决定了他的吸水性
Please in English 💁
So it was that tie out and the winds gusts that tore the material??? So that's potentially a week spot in high winds?
Hi Rew Fisher yes the tie out point and the line was to tight - it’s better with some give.
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 ahhhh yes. Maybe some a loop of shock cord would help?
Thank you for replying 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Yes some shock cord would be a god option
Don’t you use a ground sheet ?
No it’s all about the weight
Fed video Hans. Tror du det vil passe til mig i længden (197 cm) - Bruger Therm-a-rest Xtherm long (196 cm.) liggeunderlag? :)
Hej Søren tak - hvis du 197 cm høj dur det ikke - jeg 175 cm høj det passer lige akkurat 😃
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Tak for svar!
At 5.30mins, super glue, cotton, more super glue correct? Why not just tie a knot, to save weight?
Hi Cam G - I found that a knot is heavier
Not a pleasant tent to stay in when conditions don't suit it, not a tent for me or Scotland.
Hi John maybe you are right 🥲
To be honest I don't think you're using this tent in the conditions it was made for. Also people need to keep in mind that a 10D fabric really reduces the lifespan of any tent.
Maybe you are right at least I tested it to its limits, have you seen my video where I give the tent a second chance?
Alltid gøy å se hva teltene tåler av vær og vind 💨 Dette må jeg se mer på 🏕
Hej Hansen - tak for kommentaren 😊
