So true. But hindsight is 20/20 they say. I am in total agreement with you. I am moving back soon too. I so wish that I could convince Jamaicans who are in a position to help their own people, to just stay in Jamaica but travel for the experience. I always remember the words of President Kennedy (JFK) who said to the American people "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." If any of our Jamaican Prime Ministers would say that to the Jamaican people, they would get a proper telling off. There are some Jamaicans who will go and live in run-down crime ridden communities in America and Canada and seem quite comfortable, yet scream about crime in Jamaica. It is totally oblivious to so many Jamaicans how wonderful Jamaica is; we have it all, and if we are not careful we are going to lose it all to people who see the potential of my beautiful country and are choosing to live in Jamaica.

@@mdl9096 I hear you MDL....I went to Jamaica for the very first time in 2007 and was hooked. The beauty, the people, the culture, the food and the overall vibe. I was born and raised in small town rural country US about 1 1/2 hour south of Atlanta. I try my best to visit Jamaica at least once a year.
You are correct when you say 'some' Jamaicans that move to crime riddled Amerikka talk about how bad Jamaica is....all countries have their problems, but in the US, there are added problems because of our culture and history. When I retire in a couple of years I plan to spend at least 30-60 days each year in Jamaica.
I have been all over the island and love it - From Kingston to Mobay to Ochi down to Port Antonio. I know about Oracabessa and Browns Town.
One of my favorite hotels in Ochi is Silver Seas, which "aged" but its location and the serenity of staying their is unbeatable.
      Love Jamaica

Yes, all you hypocrites and slackness endorsers! are HAPPY that she did NOT call out Jamaica for what it really is!! Hell on earth!! If you notice most of you can only love it from a distance, or among those who are lucky enough not to be caught in the fire pit of s.h.i.t that it operates on. Mocha KNEW if she spoke FRANKLY the Jamaican SHARKS would come out. I commend her for SURVIVING JAMAICA and trying to make the best of it. Other persons who migrate from the US eslewhere were all smiles, for the first few months poor Mocha was faced with HURDLES after HURDLES due to lazy and incompetent complacent people, who are always on the edge of their seat to MAKE EXCUSES for the DEPLORABLE state of Jamaica and CUSS honest people for speaking the truth. How the h#LL can minimum wage by little over $7,000 per week, yet a decent one bedroom rental in Jamaica is over $100,000.00, DO THE MATH!! Throp and others were lucky enough not to be born on that side of the fence, so they can speak diplomatically with ALL SMILES and a shrug of the shoulder here and there. Jamaica is an open air PRISON with Athletes and Musicians. Total Brain Drain....Hundreds of thousands overseas peaking back through COMPUTER SCREENS. If you think you've seen anything yet regarding crime, WATCH!! Milliion dollar investments that most locals have to walk by and DREAM ABOUT will NEVER change the system for the better. I'm investing in a training center and I ask myself what's the point? besides giving back? With all the schools and churches, NOTHING has improved. They system is structured for FAILURE. Yes, there's the affluent cluster, but the disparity is WIDE. Jamaica is a rotten sore with pretty band-aid to deceive. I feel utterly ashamed that my achievements were solely possible because I LEFT Jamaica, although while in Jamaica, I was a young scholar with various academic scholarships, it was POINTLESS. Degenerate minds run the country.

Come October, it will be having to choose between heating and eating. Can't wait another 11 years for pension so sold up and moving to Westmoreland the end of September. Family and friends think we're taking a big risk but it's one of those things that if we don't do what's in our heart, we may live to regret it. Thanks MDL, there are a lot of negative low vibes. Your comment is encouraging. My late husband was murdered here in the UK, I was with him at the time and a few months ago someone was murdered outside my house. So murder and killing is everywhere. The safest place to be is in the presence of the Most High. I've been to Jamaica many times on my own. Gone to the bank to withdraw money. Heard gunshot firing but I just love Jamaica even though it has sadly been branded as the murder capital of the world. I've never been a victim of crime in Jamaica. I've been in love with the island since i first went at the age of 13. I believe I have a purpose in Jamaica and primarily that is to help others. I am not afraid of death so living in the midst of hot crime doesn't bother me. I've been close to being murdered but I'm under the protection of the Most High. My life on this planet will end at the appointed time and not before. I'm no longer a slave to fear and will live anywhere I believe my Creator leads me.... Its so awesome to be free!

Returning to ones old neighborhood to live I called that " Childhood Nostalgia and Family Ties to Ancestral Land". I made up the term.
They are trying to recapture those childhood memories. The older generation have passed and their descendants living in those neighborhoods have no family attachments to them or care to know them. The neighborhood hasn't progressed.
It's a bad idea to visit or live there permanently. They are just putting a target on themselves.
It's best to create memories in a new location with people of same likeness and economical means preferably gated communities.

    • @shayscott7498
      @shayscott7498 2 роки тому +7

I agree with most of what you said, but we are so flippant about "gated communities." Ideally, my vision is to live in a safe community that is not a guilded cage. I struggle with this and that's the juxtaposition why I haven't moved back to JA. The more I look at UA-camrs like Throp the pull becomes stronger and stronger to come back home. I am tired of feeling comfortable with being uncomfortable abroad; 55 years is enough.

I wouldn't live in one in the states but considering police in Jamaica is lackadaisical to investigate any thing there there are evidence they can collect from the cameras. Plus you can leave the home unattended if you have to travel.
People have had problems in gated communities in the usa but it was their own family who visited them that were the culprit.

They’re trying to bring the same mentality to separate people by socioeconomic class as they do in the United States. Rich Black people never move into their neighborhoods. I have moved back into my neighborhood and I am most comfortable and feel protected there. All the people there are productive even with the little that they have. Most times in the US when you call the police they usually show up and you are familiar with the legal system. Be aware that unfortunately some people are not honest and will hustle you same as the US. Go in the wrong neighborhood you might get hurt. I can only speak on my experience but over the last 2 years I have visited Jamaica every 2 months and stay each time for at least a month. I have driven the streets and visited the marketplace and local stores and have felt safe. I just left Jamaica of a couple days ago and will be going back in October. Once again this is my experience. As with any organization there are bad actors that is normal because we are humans beings and no one is perfect. I have listen to the news in the USA and almost every day there is an incident with the police shooting a black or brown person down “like a dog” in the streets or in their car for a traffic stop. I feel safer with the police in Jamaica than the police in Decatur. This of course is my experience. Once again no matter where you are please use common sense and be aware of your surroundings. 😀

Jamaica was authentically the best place for me to live. I never thought I would leave or be concerned about even visting again. As a black expat and a returning resident with moderate savings and resources I moved home for 10 years and really felt free and safe for the whole time....I too am a home body.. UNTIL HOME INVASION REACHED MY DOOR STEP.. Like I said...I was one of those who came home to HELP and do my business low key legally ...I felt overjoyed to do that....BUT. that was because I was personally unaware of the dangers around me as a returning resident vs short term visits. The BRAIN DRAIN which is a double edged sword...because it has affected everything for decades and has contributed to the UN-WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT.
I watched this program for years and really believed it was all good UNTIL IT WAS NOT...I was in my little cocoon. So I did not realize how UNSAFE the INFRASTRUCTURE WAS HERE. And it's getting worst.
NEGRIL is not a typical of the rest of the island. However it will be changing drastically with WESTMORELAND GANGS and CORRUPT POLICE close by.
My experience was the same as yours....however...we are not typical. And even then...I had to retreat and leave my $2.5M USD Beachfront Property in a Resort Town in St Ann. Google Facts: #2 MURDER CAPiTAL # 2 FEMICIDE. I did not believe it...I also mitigated against risk ...I moved back where I knew anyone I left at 12... I lived simple....did not have any risk. I lived simple. I LIVED in a quiet community where you could keep your doors open... But here are the facts - Scammers and Choppers and GUN men are now able to afford to live next door to you...during the lock down these forces GALVENIZED and have become financially empowered are looking to takeover because we have no means for solving crimes. Criminals have zero fear and they are indeed targeting people who they thing has means. Corrupt. Police are also targeting you in the form and bribes. I thought most of the crimes came only from family and friends.. but that was not my case. Strangers moved next door..and used the house for a scammer haven..and all hell broke loose. I WAS RAISED IN NY.. AND TRAVELLED 48 STATES AND 10 COUNTURES...SO VERY AWARE A MOVED . WOKE every where and JA. But ...with all that said...JAMAICA does NOT have the infrastructure to assure the Safety of its existing citizens muchless returnees or expats. I probably lasted 10 years because I work online and was somewhat isolated.
I was a relocation specialist for expats for the past 5 years by word or mouth...with close friends.. because of my positive love and energy for my country. BUT KNOWING WHAT I NOW KNOW...I AM OUT OF DENIAL...and am very reluctant to recommend Jamaica to relocate or even for short term stays.

As an Expat/Returning Resident/grew up in NY 50 years and Jamaica 10. Work remotely...lived moderately...home body...connected to professional locally.. only. Not flasht...took taxis around for years. Low low key and cool with everyone around me. ...UNTIL POST PANDEMIC...when CRIME started to infiltrate the socalled SAFE resort communities across Jamaica.
I was soooo DISMISSIVE and unaware of the DANGERS OF JAMAICA. That might not be her experience. She has not been there long enough to really give any advice. I sound the same with my unawareness for 10 years. Fact is you can make ALL the necessary adjustments possible. Fact: LIVING IN JAMAICA is becoming now more than ever.... like playing RUSSIAN ROULETTE with your life. CRIME IS INDEED AT A ALL NEW HIGH...NEW FAD..People setting up their neighbors for .RANDOM HOME INVASIONS...even in Gated Communities. I had cameras and Hawkey Security System..and it didn't stop them. I never lived in fear here. Never. But it would be unwise that I would still be in denial of the dangers that exists of relocating to Jamaica.

Why would a Caribbeans Island pay as the USA or UK? That's upsurge their economy and cost of living is much higher than Jamaica, as far as I know people had been leaving Jamaica for years just because some Jamaicans just think they can make money faster, so they follow money wherever it leads them.

Good morning, I don't understand why Jamaica people always think they are the one who is experiencing hardships, what ever is happening in Jamaica is happening all over the world especially in third world countries and Latin and South American countries. Right here in NYC where I am there is a big shortage of teachers. They complain about no jobs for teachers and nurses, they all go into these professions knowing there will be not enough jobs for them, so they blame the government knowing fully well that they are going to migrate because of the demands for that kind of work, Jamaicans never take responsibility for anything thing always blaming someone else or the government, wake up Jamaican people

Its all perspectives, its so annoying when people try to make the argument about crime rate vs America, first of all on a per capita basis jamaica has the highest murder rate per capita, LET ME REPEAT FOR THE SLOW PEOPLE WHO CANT READ. (PER CAPITA) go look it up to see what that means.
So, some people find good luck in America, some will find success in jamaica, its all perspectives, what is not is the crime rate as it relates to the numbers. Facts are facts regardless of how patriotic you want to be.

I am disgusted by your comments about not moving back into your same neighborhood this is not the United States or Mississippi or the southside of Chicago. We move back right in the same neighborhoods among the people who don’t have as much as we do because we want to build our community. I know many people who moved back into their same neighborhood and her are not having any problems I think it is a terrible idea to say such a thing Jamaicans are not trying to kill people because they seem to have more money than they do. That’s the American mentality to separate people by how much they have please don’t bring that to Jamaica. Take that back to the United States. You’re ready to segregate people by Socio economic class we don’t need people like you in our country.

This is not an "American thing". This IS a " Jamaican Thing" You know people who have returned to your/their neighborhood and are doing just fine, well, that's good for you and them.
But there are also MANY who did do just that and are now 6'x 6" under if they were lucky. { I think now it's 4'x whatever).
So don't try to play this situation up as if it's an AMERICAN THING. It is
      JAMAICAN only.
People get killed every day in other places, yes. But Jamaica is the place where returnees ARE targeted for what they supposedly have.
THERE is NO WAY TO SPIN THAT SHIT!
